CLASS ACTIVITIES (rough copy)


Allotted time: 45 minutes
Main aim: - To enable students to understand and use the following lexical items
related to family.

Daughter
Son
Niece
Nephew
Cousin
Colleague
Mother-in-law
Son-in-law
Uncle

Lead-in (7 minutes)
Students answer the following questions in pairs:
Is your family a big one or a small one?
Do you live with any of your relatives?
Do they all live in Hungary?
Students share answers (OCFB).
Ex 1 (8 minutes)
Students work in pairs with exercise 1 (see Handout 1). Afterwards, they check their
answers with the rest.
Teach (8 minutes)
Meaning: In order to check the proper understanding of the new vocabulary, the
teacher uses an example of a family on the board, and asks some questions.

Pronunciation: uncle /kl/ nephew /nfju/ cousin /kzn/ daughter /d.t/

(Note: anticipation to mispronounced words)


Ex 2 (8 minutes)
The teacher uses an example to introduce exercise 2. Students work in pairs (see
Handout 2). After they finish they share their answers with the rest of the class.
Free practice (12 minutes)
Students see instructions on the board. Teacher demonstrates using his family
(introduced after exercise 1). Students guess the person the teacher is talking about
and then proceed to do the same in small groups using the vocabulary taught in class.
