GAIL(Gas Authority of India Limited) was started in 16th August,1986.

The company was initially given the responsibility of construction, operation & maintenance of the
Hazira - Vijaypur (HVJ) pipeline Project.
It was one of the largest cross-country natural gas pipeline projects in the world. Originally this 1800
Km long pipeline was built at a cost of Rs 1700 Crores and it laid the foundation for development of
market for natural Gas in India. government of India owns 57% of the company.

GAIL group of companies account for:

About 3/4th of the natural gas transmitted in India through pipelines.
More than 1/2 of the natural gas sold in India.
Almost 1/5th of the polyethylene produced in the country.
LPG produced for every 10th LPG cylinder in the country.
Pipeline transmission of around 1/4th of the countries total LPG.
Gas supply for V2 of the countries fertilizer produced. 6s supply for V2 of the country's gas based
power generation.
Operating in more than 2/3rd of the country's CNG station.

There is a great potential in the market but supply of Natural gas is not meeting its demand so, GAIL (I)
should search alternatives to get more Gas. At present time GAIL is importing Natural gas only from
Rasgas (QUATAR) so GAIL should locate other Natural Gas supplier countries.
GAIL should run a "Natural Gas Awareness Program" to make aware about different uses of Natural
Gas.
increase profit margin GAIL should not concentrates only to to new customers but company should also
focus on the 'sting customer to increase their existing demand. As GAIL has no to fix itesetup.

derived

Natural Gas comes in 4 basic forms

Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) - Natural Gas which has been liquefied at (Minus) 160
degree Centigrade. Natural Gas is liquefied to facilitate transportation in large volumes in
cryogenic tankers across sea.

Regasified Liquefied Natural Gas (RLNG) LNG Re-gasified before transporting it to

consumers through Pipelines.

Compressed Natural gas (CNG) - Natural Gas compressed to a pressure of 200-250 kg/cm2
used as fuel for transportation. CNG decreases vehicular pollution on the virtue of being
cleaner fuel than liquid fuels.

Piped Natural gas (PNG) - Natural Gas distributed through a pipeline network that has
safety valves to maintain the pressure, assuring safe, uninterrupted supply to the
domestic sector for cooking and heating / cooling applications.

PROPANE
PROPYLENE
PENTANE
Hydrogenated C4 Mix (LPG)
Hydrogenated C4 Mix (LPG) is being used mainly in commercial /industrial sectors as fuel and as
a feed stock in petrochemical industry.

NAPHTHA Naphtha is primarily used by Power, Fertiliser, Steel and Petrochemical Units. In Power, Steel,
Units it is used as a fuel, whereas in Petrochemical, Chemical, Fertiliser Units it is used as a feedstock.

MFO Uses of MFO
