Preface The Age of the ForeFathers

Year: 3070 A.D.

Place: Planet Earth The Museum

Imagine! This Museum was the only place where Humans lived a few decades
ago!, said a robotic voice from within a huge Teddy Bear doll to a bunch of
kids whose eyes dilated with curiosity at the screen showing images of the
preserved heritage sites of the world being described.
Planet Earth is now a Museum! Yes! The whole of planet Earth is nothing but a
Museum for the Humans!
As Humans have moved out of planet Earth and have occupied and terraformed
the Moon, the planet Mars, and the Asteroids, Earth is now under the complete
control of the Robots headed by the Hybrids. Hybrids are a unique species of
ancient part-machine-part-humans who have been replacing their failing
biological organs with mechanical organs. To preserve the longevity of their
biological organs, they wake up only occasionally from hibernation once in a
century, to address the issues and provide instructions to the Robots.
Much of the Earths surface is under water due to the effects of Global
Warming. The identified heritage sites of the Earth, that were still standing after
the apocalyptic catastrophe of the year 2052, are all under water too and are
preserved in glass chambers to be displayed for the visitors of the Earth
Museum.
The kids of the Humans, are taken to the Museum of Earth now and then, for
them to learn about history, that changed drastically during the last thousand
years.
The Teddy Bears robotic voice continued, The end of the 10-year-old Third
World War by the year 2052, wiped out almost 90 per cent of the world
population. Made most of the land not useful, as they were either destroyed in
explosions or flowing with radioactive rays.
Can you guess why?
The Nuclear Apocalypse!, shouted the kids in unison.

Yes! the use of Nuclear bombs almost destroyed the world and the human
civilization as we know it! But, the Earth was resurrected in a few years, or
atleast what was left of it. The survivors of the catastrophe struggled just to be
alive, which made all the technological advancements obsolete in most parts of
the new world.
A few brilliant minds, our ForeFathers, identified the unaffected lands and got
the rest of the survivors there. They gathered the remaining knowledge and
started their work of building a new world order.
They formed a Global Corporation to look after the unified affairs of the
survivors of the entire world. It was named the Uno World Corporation!
A Global Board was constituted and they took the decisions that changed the
fundamentals of Human civilization till then!
The Global Board considered that the concepts of Democracy and Money were
the key causes for the Third World War! While most of the world population
wanted peace, the apocalyptic war happened only to satisfy the egos of a few
elite money rich leaders elected by the masses. So, the Global Board considered
that not all people are fit to vote or to participate in governance. Instead of
money, they decided to provide basics to everyone, but introduced the concept
of Merit Points, that will enable the people to qualify for different levels of
lifestyle facilities, work allocation and recognition.
The Merit Points system created different classes among the population and
with time, this resulted in a hierarchical structure of the classes.
The hierarchy from top to bottom consisted of the Crme Supreme, the
Alphas , the Betas and the Selfies!
This time of the history is catalogued as the Age of the ForeFathers! and it is
attributed to be between the years 2052 to 2500, after which the Hybrids and
their Robots started evolving to be more powerful and started taking over the
world.
The biggest achievement of this civilization of the survivors and the forefathers
was the Space Elevator An elevator from Earth to the International space
station, through which you kids came down to this Museum of the ancient
world!

Chapter 1 - At First Sight!

Year 2220 A.D.

Age of the ForeFathers, two centuries after the Nuclear Apocalypse of the year
2052.
Place: The Healing Center, GET Facility, in the middle of the barren lands of the
Betas Barren, run by the Alphas.

You are cute!, he said, with drowsy eyes.

Su stopped checking his pulse rate from the blue wrist band that was the only
contrast from the full white sheet on him. Only his face, wrists and heels were
visible out of the white sheet. The blue wrist band was the injection, which
uses the pores in the skin to get medicine to the right places within the body
using targeted Nano-bots so that there is no needle involved. She took two
seconds to process the comment on her looks, from the guy who she is
monitoring after sedating him. Showing only her profile to him till now, she
turned her face to check his eyes and moved closer.
I take back what I said. I was seeing only from one side. Now that you are
facing me, I dont think you are!, he said.
Excuse me! asked Su involuntarily. But for a moment there, she was amused
when he called her cute and now for a moment here, she felt strangely
surprised when he said I take that back.
I meant, you are more than cute. You are gorgeous! I thought you were a cute
painting first. Then I thought you are a cute animation or something, as you
turned towards me and came closer. But, you just spoke. I dont know if you
are a holographic projection. Still, you look like a beautiful dream. So, this must
be a dream then?
She felt a strange sense of happiness lasting only a few seconds, as he praised
her looks. It became clear to Su that he is slowly drifting inwards and in a few
moments, will be ready for the Interview.

Mr. Bo..so.., you are getting into a deep sleep and probably very much
intoxicated right now. So, relax.
Those eyes! They talk so much! Its drawing me in, like a deep blue quagmire.
But that nose is the cutest, he said reaching out his index finger and touching
the tip of her nose. Su got hold of his finger and kept it on his now closed lips
to shut him up. It was instantly misplaced again, touching the contour of her
face near the chin he said, And the oval shape of your face. Those ears, those
lips.
This is getting out of hands Boso., she snatched his finger and held his
mischievous right hand tight and with his left hand she made him to cover his
mouth.
Su is from the Alphas class. She is assisting Dr Jen today to prepare subjects
for the Interview by sedating them. She is a participant of this years Global
Entrance Test or GET for short and has just passed the eligibility test for the
same, a few days back.
Dr. Jen walked in. Is he sedated? If so, Ill take it from here, Su
Su replied immediately, Oh Absolutely! He is sedated for sure. He called me a
cute painting, a cute animation, a hologram, a beautiful dream and what not.
Dr Jen exclaimed, Wow! with lifted eyebrows, while Su added, Andhe is a
bit touchy! winking at Dr Jen. Dr Jen was shocked for a moment.
Just kidding. He is just intoxicated a lot. Thats all, said Su and turned to leave
adding, But, He is okay!, when Boso slipped into a deeper sleep.
Su came out of the room, just physically. Walking down the aisle of the Healing
facility, she was still thinking of Boso!
No one has ever talked to her like that, atleast, not since she was a little girl.
She herself realised that she has not been interested in her looks all this time,
while chasing her ambition.
She came across a reflecting glass window and observed for just a minute.
She IS good looking. A perfectly oval shape of a face with a chin thats curving
inwards. Long but thin eyebrows, with blue eyes. Su would have liked her nose
a bit longer, but also saw the point from Bosos comment that its cute just the
way it is. She usually likes to tie up her long hair in a bun which may look like a
flower with the knotting and the folding behind her head, but only if seen from

a distance. Her body is athletic but definitely not thin. It has been a challenge
to focus and learn a lot and prepare herself for the Global Entrance Test, but
also to keep her body as fit as possible. She knows that the success in Global
Entrance Test, also depends on physical abilities.
There are two earrings. But they are not standard earrings. It is an extension of
the in-ear headphones thats part of the communication system of the facility.
Its like an intercom through which one can talk to any required person within
the facility with similar headphones based on pairing and accepting to
communicate by sending or receiving. Her earrings are curved triangles and
now showing in blue color to match the color of her healing centre walls and
uniform color code of the healing centre - blue.
The walls, dress fabric, not to forget the nail patches and every other thing
imaginable of use to people with an exterior surface is covered with a material
that reflects certain color in the color spectrum under white light. One can
choose any shade of any color, for the walls of their rooms or the exterior of
the structures, or anything thats covered with the material.
Su started to play with controls of her dress both with changing of color shades
and with changing adjustment of the dress to the body with a few variations in
the designs. Everyone in the Alphas lifestyle or in the GET facility run by the
Alphas, have a common interior layer of clothing and an exterior layer. The
exterior dresses have minute adjusting and shape shifting balls throughout the
dress that either fold, unfold, stretch, or shrink which makes it possible to add
myriad design combinations in the millions.
While Su was, basically checking her out, Gee and other group of girls who
were coming in were pleasantly surprised.
Gee came running towards Su shouting No Way!. Su asked but why? Its
been a little while since I played around on my looks. She asserted.
A little while? You know the last time we tried different hairstyles on each
other? We were twelve years old then! Ever since you got the idea of
Feminism and this GET in your mind, all the fun things from our life have been
snatched away from us, locked in a room and the key lost by you!
Another girl said, But Gee, you cant let her look better than you! Can you?
Because, she does look prettier now!

Gee immediately went behind Su and started playing with her hairstyle, Here,
let me mess up your hairstyle then! You cannot be prettier than me!
Remember we agreed to this when we were kids. You are the brains, and Im
the beauty.
First, getting through with high rank on this test is my lifes biggest ambition
that comes before anything else. Second, Feminism doesnt mean you
shouldnt have some fun with your looks and appreciate yourself unless it
doesnt mean looking good is the most important job of a female. You are all
beautiful and Gee, you are prettier than me. Now, stop messing with my hair
and prove that you have some brains too!, finished Su.
Meanwhile, Gee has already finished pleating Sus hair and brought it forward
swirling and it settled in the front right side of Su, near hr shoulder.
hmmnot bad!, appreciated Su.
Gee wondered, But Su! Why suddenly today?
Su opened up, Well there was this guy who I administered anaesthesia to, for
Interview by Dr Jen just a while ago. He was so sedated that he started calling
me cute and gorgeous and all, before he went into deep sleep. It just brought
back some memories I guess
Interesting! But did you say, before he was into deep sleep? Probably, he
was not that sedated after all? Well, thats not too important. Tell us
something very important, how did he look? asked another girl.
It is important to me to know if he just said whatever came to his mind
consciously! As for his looks, I could see only his face clearly as he was covered
in white sheet except for his writs and heels. Must be tall. His heels were
stretching out of the bed. Had broad shoulders. Looked strong. I dont
knowthe face was oblong shaped. But with a strong jaw. He had long hair but
not longer than the backside of his neck. Beautifully thick, long, and curvy
eyebrows. Black eyes. A long and pointed nose. But he had this beard but just
an inch thick. He is okay!
Just okay? sounds handsome to me!, Gee shrugged her shoulders opening
her arms, moving her neck to a side.
They turned towards the screeching sound of wheels to see an automatic
moving stretcher, coming towards them. It was apparent that some other guy

is also being moved into Dr Jens room. But it looked like he wasnt moving and
with eyes closed, already sedated probably.
As the stretcher came closer to the girls, the guy sat up suddenly and shouted
Boooo!
The girls were all scared for a few seconds and realising the prank, were
embarrassed and started giggling among themselves.
Gee was the only girl who could get a glimpse of the guy before he was already
in Dr Jens room. Who was that?, wondered the girls with each other.
Gee grabbed Su and pulled her a metre away from the girls and asked, Did
you see the symbol on his collar? Its a S!!!
What! But how? Its impossible! No Selfie has ever passed the eligibility
exam for the GET, ever
No Su! We were just trying to find you to tell you the same. But we got
distracted. Early morning today, while you would have been in the Healing
centre rooms attending to patients, we were informed that, for the first time in
recorded history, two Selfies have passed the eligibility test. Someone called
Boso and Fermi!
I remember the name of the one I sedated and who called me cute was
mentioned as Mr. Boso!
Then the one who pranked us now must be Fermi!.
I cant believe they are Selfies! I mean, they look good!, said Gee.
Su was already thinking deep, Well, that changes everything! Was Boso even
fully sedated or was he just hitting on me?! And how dare this Fermi scare us
like this. These Selfies are weird.
Gee opined Well, whatever we assumed of Selfies may be correct or maybe
wrong. We will know shortly now that they are here. But they are unique and
weirdly interesting!

Chapter 2- The First Test

Dr Jen explained to Fermi, the Interview procedure and why he was there
along with Boso, who is now in a deep sleep after sedation.
Fermi, you are here to be a legal witness of the discussion we have here with
Boso for assessing the candidate about the truthfulness in passing the GET
eligibility test.
Turning to Boso, Dr Jen continued, Boso, can you please introduce yourself
and tell us what you know about the Uno World Corporation and GET.
Boso started speaking, still sleeping, Im Boso. My friends call me Bo. After the
world was almost destroyed by a Nuclear war 200 years ago, all the remaining
dispersed groups of the survivors agreed to the formation of a united one
world.
But they considered democracy and nationalist politics to be the main reason
for the nuclear war which was done only to satisfy the egos of a few top
politicians in power, while most of the world population were against the war.
So, it was decided that democracy be banned as all the masses were not
considered to be fit enough for voting or running for office in elections.
A Global Board was formed and they decided to limit the voting and running
for office rights only to a select few, based-on merits. The concept of money
was completely disenfranchised and value was measured in terms of Merit
Points which are based on contribution to common goals of the Uno World
Corporation.
Getting a good education to serve the motives of Uno World Corporation,
increases the Merit Points exponentially, which may land you in one of the
three approved higher classes, depending on which class one belongs to now.
The Crme Supreme, is the top class, who get to own resources, frame laws,
design, and work on the key projects. They can run for elections and Ofcourse
vote. They have access to modern technology. They live in a place called the
Paradiso.

THE REJIG Chapter 2- The First Test

The Alphas, are below the Crme Supreme. They are responsible for
supervising and coordinating work and they have a right to vote too but not to
run for office themselves. They get a lot of facilities as compared to the lower
classes such as flying mass transportation systems called Dragonflies. They
live in a place called, The Alphas Abode.
The Betas, are below the Alphas, and are the bottom layer of the Corporation.
Most of the population fit into this class and they are not allowed to vote. They
are rationed with resources but only after request and approvals by the
Alphas. They maintain the operational work and maintenance work. They
provide the basic manufacturing and security services to the Corporation. They
live in half fertile and half barren lands called the Betas Barren. The GET
facility, though managed by the Alphas, is located in a deserted area just
outside the border of the Betas Barren
Dr Jen asked, But you are not from any of these three recognised classes, Are
you?
Yes. Im not from any of these classes. Im a Selfie. A group of people who
did not agree to all the regulations of the Corporation and so were cut off from
the Uno World and left to sustain by themselves.
We live on our own in a place called Selfierion.
Based on our valued tenets of Self Respect, and Self Sustenance, we call
ourselves, Selfies.
Dr Jen commented Yes. We know. The name may also be because you are all
just selfish, to be called Selfies. Not participating in the goals for the
betterment of the humankind isnt it selfish? But is the Corporation kind
enough to allow you for one privilege?
Boso continued, Yes. We are also allowed to participate in the Global
Entrance Test that happens once a year and anyone from any class including us
Selfies who has attained the age of 20 as of that year. There will be an
eligibility test for GET and only on passing the GET, one can go to higher
education and add points to their merits which is not possible otherwise even
by working very hard for years. The test is the only hope for people in Selfies,
Betas and even Alphas groups to get into the Crme Supreme or to atleast the
next higher class to avail benefits and an improved lifestyle akin to that class.

Dr Jen, Why did you want to get through the eligibility test? You knew that no
Selfie has ever passed the GET eligibility test, right?
I never wanted to! I never prepared for this test or was not even interested. I
have a crazy friend named Fermi! He is a very intelligent stupid guy, who was
always preparing for this test, while knowing that no one from our class has
ever passed.
Fermi interrupted with a fake anger, So now Im a crazy guy? intelligent stupid
guy?!.
On the day of the eligibility test a week ago, Fermi woke me up from my deep
sleep and asked for my help to reach the test centre in the foothills of our
abode which is somewhere near the top of a mountain. I just gave him
company.
Dr Jen became curious, Records show that you guys reached just in time when
the tests were about to start, all soaked in water. How did you manage to
come down the mountains, if you had not started the previous day from the
top?
Well, I found something called a Zorb- a sphere inside a sphere made up of
floating material, which can be inflated by pumping air into it and a person can
get into the inner sphere and walk on it, to control the direction of moving the
Zorb on water or on land. The outer sphere absorbs any shock that arises while
hitting the ground. The outer sphere also bounces on ground and floats while
on water. I had two of them already inflated that day. Then as Fermi was
irritating me with his pleadings, I made him climb into a Zorb and pushed him
down the river.
Fermi is my friend; however crazy he is.
So, I got the other Zorb and got into the river behind him. We both took a few
huge falls and many twists and turns, but just a few minutes later, we were
already on the foot of the hills!
Fermi interrupted again, Thats a lie right there! Let the records show that I
bravely jumped into the river with the Zorb and no one had to push me!
Dr Jen silenced Fermi by looking stern at him and asked Boso, Okay so you
never intended to come to the GET eligibility test yourself. You never had the
motive or interest. You came only to give company to your crazy friend. But
how did you pass the test then?

Boso said, Now thats a good question. I dont know. I even selected one of
the answers which said, I dont know and I dont know which I thought
exactly depicted my frame of mind. But I still got selected. All because of this
Fermi! .
Dr. Jen decided to conclude the Interview. She thought she will end it with only
one question, before she can sedate and do the same procedure with Fermi
while keeping Boso as the witness.
Boso. This question is to assess your thinking. To confirm you are not against
the Corporation. But be careful, it is a tricky question. Its a cliff-hanger
situation.
Just Imagine, you are holding one of your Selfie friends like Fermi on one hand
and another Alphas class person on the other while you are in the corner of a
cliff which overlooks a deadly valley beneath. You can hold only one person
with the strength you have that time. There is no other way out. You must
choose between your Selfie friend and the Alphas person. What will you do?
Any logically applicable answer to this specific question will be acceptable, but
its a difficult choice
Choose me! me, me! shouted Fermi.
Dr. Jen hoped Boso will say Fermi, so that she can disqualify him on that
ground as laws clearly state a higher-class life is always worth more than a
lower class.
Fermi hoped that Boso will either choose him or he too will jump and uphold
their friendship, but getting everyone killed in the process with no other option
being there!
But the reply from Boso was nothing on these lines. Dr Jen and Fermi looked at
each other in amazement as soon as Boso said,
Ill just stop imagining and save everyone!
