Dear Frank,

Thank your for this piece, and sorry if I am late to reply.

1. I admire your style

It is a good piece. I always appreciate your style. I feel that your written style is the reflection of your
voice. You are first of all a great actor of the word, a good voice and a good pen. I really envy you.

You have managed to keep a personal style, and a good style. You never indulge in ideological phrasing,
but your voice is personal, even when it is universal. I have to say that you have a sense of poetry.

You never use "basic English", but you manage to extract the best of English words. In France, this
would be highly esteemed, we still have a few people who can write in great style. As you know, the
French language is extremely complicated, and the good language, which can actually be simple, is
rarely used now. the paradox of Little Prince, by the way, is that it is so simple, and yet, written in a high
language.

Sometimes, when I read your pieces. I have to look at my dictionary, because I don't know the exact
meaning of some words you use. But believe me, it is a delight.

2. Your article

Second, as I was going through your review of the book, I had the same question, why omit Jerusalem?
Of course, it depends what the author calls Rome. Washington D.C. is very much the 3rd Rome and the
upteenth Athens, but there is also something of a possible Vatican there.

I believe that the USA continue to be, first of all, one nation under God. Now it is true that the God of
Americans is the God of a diverse multitude.

He is the Creator inspiring thriving and creative individuals.

He is the jealous and conservative God of prayerful, God-fearing puritan families. (He is also the
merciful God of many mothers who raise their kids with dignity in a fatherless home).
I believe that he is also the righteous God of the American centurions, because I sincerely believe that
the boys (and girls), who risk their lives to maintain law and order are good-hearted and willing to
protect the widow and the orphan. I always consider that American generals and admirals are
conscientious and mindful about the just war.
God is also the smart God of much American cultural production and of many of its universities.

One problem is that the people of God are too much divided among themselves. They may have
forgotten the diversity of the One God, a God who can never be narrow, whose Might is so much more
mighty than the sum total of these mighty (and less might) groups I just mentioned.
