THE INTAKE STROKE

The intake stroke is when the air-fuel mixture is introduced into the combustion chamber.
The intake stroke occurs when the piston moves from the top dead center (TDC) to the
lower dead center (LDC) and is when the intake valve is open and the exhaust valve is
closed. The air-fuel mixture is at a relatively low pressure (near atmospheric). The cylinder
fills slightly, as the air-fuel mixture flows by its own inertia, while the piston begins to
change direction. The inlet valve remains open a few degrees of rotation of the crankshaft
after the top dead center and finally the intake valve is closed then the air-fuel mixture is
sealed inside the cylinder. The intake stroke comprises a rotation of the crankshaft with
