Introduction- Over the course of the semester before I entered into this class I

thought to myself this class is challenging but I have to make it thru and try hard. I'm not

going to lie I did complain before the class even start. First day of class before class even

started everyone told me don't take this class it's really hard. I thought to myself I know

this class is going to be challenging but, I have to take challenge and work hard to get all the

work completion done and right. After the class ended and the semester ended I said to

myself I did it I really did it After this class I really thought I wasn't going to do anything

but, In the end I did what I had to do in all my assignments I took it step by step and, I had

all the help I needed. After the class it made me feel and become a better writer because of

all the 4 cour assignments plus the final paper made me increase my writing skills and

that's how this course was worth taking.

Over time in this class I grew as a writer and as a better person. This class taught me

to increase my writing skills by how much we write in class also, improving my vocabulary

skills in my writing to make my paper better. Finally, I grew in the way I say information

and citing my work and make sure it's correct. For example, In one of our first papers I did

so terrible on it. I had no transitions, no corrects on it I just all out failed that assignment. I

thought I did so good on it but, I knew my writing was only going to get better. Final way I

grew as a writer is how I project my voice and use it in a good way. The way I used it

throughout the semester in class is when we discuss as a group and brainstorm ideas to

come up with some for our future paper. However, I grew so much over the past semester

when it comes to this class I am grateful for having an experience taking this class. The

outcomes I chose for my writing assignments is (1b), (2c), (1c), (1e), (aa), (1a).
Outcome 1- Revise and Edit (1b)

Over the course of the semester having this class I learned so much over the time.

What this means is one of the assignments you write for this class and then, after you

revise it and edit with with a teacher or another student to make the writing better. I have

done this with all my writing assignments to either become a better writer and make it

proficient to put it in the final to make my final paper even better. However, seeking for

extra help to make your paper really good is very good to do. In the beginning of the class I

was never seeking for extra help. I always did it on my own until I was seeing my grade go

down from failing my writing assignments and I realized I needed to become a better

writer. So, what I did at the end of the semester is seek for extra help in revising and

making edits to make me become a better writer also, making sure I know what i'm talking

about and making sure my writing is always clear. Another, way at the end of the semester

I took the time and stay after school to revise my papers slowly and made sure they are

good to go.

One Example I have that proves that I made such a huge difference when it comes to

my writing over the course of the semester is my promposal paper. I made such a huge

difference before I revised it and edited it I had so much grammatical errors, run of

sentences, not complete sentences. All these bunch of problems I had and I didn't even

know I had all of these errors in my paper when I turned it in. I thought to myself Wow I

really tried on this paper I hope I did a good job. But, After I got my grade back I noticed
how much errors I made over this paper. So, what I did is try to revise it and edit myself.

Then, I seek for extra help to get more revise and edits to see where I really messed up on

my paper. However, So what I did is either go to my teacher to help me on why I made so

many errors on my Sleep times paper. After all, this experience made me realize to take it

slow when I write and read my sentences out loud so it makes sense and it's correct for me

to get a higher grade also, for me to become a better writer. Another writing piece that I

had that I had to revise and edit was my promposal paper. On this paper I only had to fix

my run on sentences, Grammar also using proper words. What I mean by that is stop

exaggeration the words when that part is not that important. So, what I did to do is if my

teacher for that class is busy I seek out for help outside of class to help me and teach me

how to revise and edit this certain paper. Promposal paper was difficult but after all this

hard work and revising it to make the requirements for a complete paper I finally did it.

Here are some examples I had to do to revise and edit my promposal paper. What a huge

difference I did after my revise and edits.

Before: A promposal could go into both ways it's either you get denied or they say yes.

Turnout this personal story that I found this guy ended up getting rejected. One day in this

regular school day and this girl named brianna was entering the cafeteria and noticed everyone

was crowded her she was confused. Then, music starts playing people have their phones out

recording her and she was getting nervous. Next thing you knew Boom! This guy named travis

comes out saying Will you come to prom with me?! She had no words it was unexpected so

many thoughts running through her head she replied, Yes!Everyone was so happy that she said

yes and everyone was cheering happily.

After: A promposal could go both ways, they either get denied or they say, yes. Take

for example a story (published on CNN) A student from Los angeles, California ended up

getting rejected. One regular school day a girl named Brianna was entering the cafeteria and

noticed everyone was crowding her and she was confused. Then music starts playing, people

have their phones out recording her and she was getting nervous. Next thing you know Boom!

Travis comes out saying Will you come to the prom with me?! She had no words it was so

unexpected and many thoughts ran through her head when she replied, Yes!Everyone was so

happy that she said yes and everyone was cheering happily.

Outcome 2- Readiness Expectations (1c)

Over the course of the semester I struggled to show this outcome. My audience is the

main reason on why you are writing. Before you start a paper or a writing assignment think

to yourself Who's the audience to this prompt? I always had trouble asking myself that

until I got the help I needed to prove who's my audience. This outcome means who are you

writing for and why is it important to them. In the beginning of the class I was so confused

on how to input your audience into your writing and so, what audience meant in writing.

After all, the struggle I went into finding an audience into each and every writing

assignment for who my audience is. However, after the class of the semester ended I finally

figured out what audience is and why it matters. Audience means what are you writing for

a community, a person, a family, celebrity etc.. Also, this class taught me how to find an

audience by knowing what you are going to write about.Which means does your writing

have a purpose? So afterwards, After the class I understand why you need audience and
why it matters. Here is an example of me social audience and introducing a topic in one of

my papers that made its final requirements.

Paper: Social media causes the promposal hype teens have come to love and want.

Facebook, instagram and twitter are just some of the many online culprits. Social media has

given rise to a new term, virtual peer pressure. It is the type of peer pressure kids face online

almost daily. says Orly Katz, a youth empowerment and life skills expert. Seeing these lavish

and outlandish promposal posts, teens become influenced in a negative rather than positive way.

Money is wasted since promposals are short and the person who says yes is not guaranteed to

even go or be with you. Considering the fact that about 75% of children (promposals) experience

this type of peer pressure, the negativity will only grow and cause more wasted time, money and

effort. After all the the struggle to find an audience I finally knew how to find an audience for

my writing piece and understood who I was writing for and about. It took me awhile to

understand how to find it but my teacher helped me and processed every step to find an audience

for this paper also, this paper is my Promposal paper.

Outcome 3- Identify where support is needed for their claim (aa)

Over the course of the semester for this class I missed out on supporting my ideas

for my claim. What this means is giving examples when needed for your claim in your

writing. Before this class I thought after you out an example in your writing to back it up

your writing. I thought I was doing really good at that to make sure my writing examples

has a back up and good supporting evidence. Before this class that's how I thought that's

what you needed to do. After this class I noticed my supporting was weak. I realized that I
was doing it wrong this whole time. What I used to do before this class is say for example,

Rhode Island only has 1 million people as the population I know this because I searched it

up and it told me from google. That's how I used to support my claim and evidence. But,

now since I took this class I now know how to support my evidence and claim better and in

formatted way.

The amount of work and study time students put into one's assignments leave many

sleep deprived. Study shows from ( http://news.stanford.edu) states that 56% of students deal

with sleep deprivation. It also has an effect on their mood and work potential. Results suggest

that regardless of how much a student generally studies each day... he or she will have more

trouble understanding material taught in class and be more likely to struggle on an

assignment or test the following day. says Cari Gillen-ONeel and colleagues within To

Study or to Sleep? The Academic Costs of Extra Studying at the Expense of Sleep. This

statement expresses the negative effects sleep deprivation will have on ones academic skill and

focus.

This example above me is how I support my claim and evidence after I took the class.

After the semester ended it taught me so much on how to support my claim and understand what

i'm talking about. I learned how to do this is by seeking extra help also, my teacher. They taught

me how to search up information and know what's reliable sources and not reliable. They taught

me the differences between them. Then, taught me how to insert it into my writing without

messing it up and make it clear to support my claim.

Another example, that shows I improved after the semester and got the help I needed was

on my sleep times paper. This paper came a long way to making its final requirements. I needed

so much edits and making sure my claim had a huge amount of support behind it because I
wanted to make sure this paper was on the right track. After all the hard work here is an example

that I have from my writing that I made a huge difference and make sure I supported it correctly.

Sleep is essential, affecting one's growth both physically and mentally. The amount of

work and study time students put into one's assignments leave many sleep deprived. Study

shows from ( http://news.stanford.edu) states that 56% of students deal with sleep deprivation. It

also has an effect on their mood and work potential. Results suggest that regardless of how

much a student generally studies each day... he or she will have more trouble understanding

material taught in class and be more likely to struggle on an assignment or test the following

day. says Cari Gillen-ONeel and colleagues within To Study or to Sleep? The Academic

Costs of Extra Studying at the Expense of Sleep. After this class, I hope my supporting ideas

just keeps evolving over time as it comes because I improved so much over the semester over

supporting my claim.

Outcome 4- Craptest (2c)

Over the semester I learned so much but this outcome I will always remember for

the rest of my life. The CRAP TEST stands for Currency Relevancy Accuracy Publication.

But, it's how you know a source is an accurate and legitimate source. The crap test made

me find out what sources for my evidence could really back me up. In the beginning of the

semester I just grab the first link I see and use it for my evidence. I didn't even notice that if

it was reliable or not But, until I noticed that one of my papers before had fake evidence to

back me up with so I had my whole paper wrong with fake evidence. After the class I

learned how to find reliable sources for my evidence to back me up. Also, making sure the
source is correct. To make sure it's a reliable source if its from the NY Times or some big

article or from the news. Finally, at the end of the year my teacher showed my how to use

the craap test to make sure it was a reliable source for my writing piece and I did. It made

me find some really good sources for my writing. One example, I found for my writing to

have a reliable source was my promposal paper. The source I found for this part of the

writing piece was amazing.

Paper: A promposal could go both ways, they either get denied or they say, yes. Take

for example a story (published on CNN) A student from Los angeles, California ended up

getting rejected. One regular school day a girl named Brianna was entering the cafeteria and

noticed everyone was crowding her and she was confused. After all this hard work I completing

to make sure my sources were correct I am going to use this method for the future.

Outcome 5- Attribution (1e)

Over the semester this class taught me so much but, this outcome right here (1e) is

basically citing your evidence and citing where you got your evidence from. In the

beginning of the class I didn't know to how cite my information correctly I always thought

you just get the information from your sources and just insert it from your writing. But,

after the semester ended I realized that I was doing it wrong. I needed to add citations for

all my evidence because if I didn't it would be plagiarism. So, what I did is to seek out for

extra help and making sure I did it correctly and it's on point also, citing my evidence. One

example that I have that shows my citation is my sleep times paper.

Paper: Sleep is essential, affecting one's growth both physically and mentally. The

amount of work and study time students put into one's assignments leave many sleep deprived.

Study shows from ( http://news.stanford.edu) states that 56% of students deal with sleep

deprivation. After all this hard work I finally understand how to cite evidence correctly. I

wouldn't know how to do it unless if it wasn't for my teachers and other people around me

helping me.

Outcome 6- Focus, Organization (1a)

Over the semester of this class I had mixed emotions for this outcome. Focus and

organization was hard for me throughout each and every writing assignment we got in this

class. This outcome means focus and staying on task with your work also, organization

means keeping track with your work and making sure it's all in order. Before I started this

class I was not focus I didn't take this class soreau I thought this class was all a joke. Until

then, I finally realize that it's a college class and I need to get it together. I never realize

until after this class until this class is over that I should of never slacked off and just

complete the work. Because, now i'm stressing out on all my work I shouldn't have left it

for the last minute. When the class was coming to an end I finally need to start focusing

more and be more organize. Also, plan what work i'm going to do each and every day so I

could finish on time and make the deadlines. Another way I had help by my teachers and

the people I'm around with help me organize my papers and make sure i'm on track with

my details.
What I did to make sure i'm on track is have a checklist on what I'm going to be

finish by the end of the week. Also, have reminders on my phone to make sure I do the

work that I told myself to complete by the end of the week. However, what I did to make

sure my details in my paper is correct and make sure everything is organized is my sleep

times paper. In that paper it had a bunch of statistics and facts I had to make sure it was

organized and in order. An example of my writing that I did to show how organize I and

well detailed to make it final and well focused on it I wouldn't have done it without the

people around me and my teacher supporting me to stay focused and organized throughout

the whole semester.

Paper: The cost for Promposals is outrageous. A 2015 visa's prom spending survey

showed that the total average cost is $924.50 (2015 visa prom survey) within the US. The survey

also found that parents pay well over half the cost, about 73%. For a school event that only lasts

a few hours, it is not worth the expense. Money like this could be used for a college education or

even a trip to Hawaii. A round trip from Boston to Hawaii can be purchased for a total of $864.

Promposals, lasting mere minutes, only get you a yes or no answer. After, this semester of this

class it showed me that if I focus more and stay organized I could succeed and accomplish

anything I want too. Also, without the help and keeping me organized and focus throughout the

classes I don't know where I would be right now.

Another Example that proves outcome (1a) is my sleep times paper. This paper took so

much organizing and focus to stay on track. But, I had so much support behind me to complete

this paper to make it into my final piece.

Paper: A study conducted at Stanford University showed that 87% of US high school

students get less than 8 to 10 hours of sleep. But, at least you need to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep.

The study further explains that this may be due to the early start times in US high schools.

Sleep is essential, affecting one's growth both physically and mentally. The amount of

work and study time students put into one's assignments leave many sleep deprived. Study

shows from ( http://news.stanford.edu) states that 56% of students deal with sleep deprivation.

After all, this is a piece of me showing organizing my writing and details throughout this piece of

my paper. But, I couldn't do this without my teachers.

Promposal Worth The Waste?

Lights, camera, action! As the helicopter makes its way onto the emerald green grass,

people stare in awe awaiting the landing. Justin Timberlake's grammy award winning song Suit

and Tie can be heard from afar. Can I show you a few things Katy Hollins, the most

popular girl at Westwood High stands in the middle of this plain field waiting to see the

mysterious character responsible for this absurdity. A young man in a matte black tuxedo walks

out with a bouquet as vibrant as rainbows. Katy, with an embarrassed look, notices that it's Louis
Hopkins, the weird and awkward kid known for his unpleasant stench. What am I gonna say to

him? Do I really want to say no and be judged by the media or say yes and be Westwoods joke

of the century? These are just a few of the many outcomes of a promposal. The end situation is

awkward for some and costly for others. Promposals may be lavish and lively but are a huge

expense one could live without.

The cost for Promposals is outrageous. A 2015 visa's prom spending survey showed that

the total average cost is $924.50 (2015 visa prom survey) within the US. The survey also found

that parents pay well over half the cost, about 73%. For a school event that only lasts a few

hours, it is not worth the expense. Money like this could be used for a college education or even

a trip to Hawaii. A round trip from Boston to Hawaii can be purchased for a total of $864.

Promposals, lasting mere minutes, only get you a yes or no answer. Most of the time this answer

is forced on a person due to the sympathy he or she feels for the spender. The better bang for

your buck would obviously be a trip to Hawaii but saving this money towards your college funds

could also be a great way to put it to good use without having to feel as if its being wasted.

Social media causes the promposal hype teens have come to love and want. Facebook,

instagram and twitter are just some of the many online culprits. Social media has given rise to a

new term, virtual peer pressure. It is the type of peer pressure kids face online almost daily.

says Orly Katz, a youth empowerment and life skills expert. Seeing these lavish and outlandish

promposal posts, teens become influenced in a negative rather than positive way. Money is

wasted since promposals are short and the person who says yes is not guaranteed to even go or
be with you. Considering the fact that about 75% of children (promposals) experience this type

of peer pressure, the negativity will only grow and cause more wasted time, money and effort.

A promposal could go both ways, they either get denied or they say, yes. Take for

example a story (published on CNN) A student from Los angeles, California ended up getting

rejected. One regular school day a girl named Brianna was entering the cafeteria and noticed

everyone was crowding her and she was confused. Then music starts playing, people have their

phones out recording her and she was getting nervous. Next thing you know Boom! Travis

comes out saying Will you come to the prom with me?! She had no words it was so unexpected

and many thoughts ran through her head when she replied, Yes!Everyone was so happy that

she said yes and everyone was cheering happily. Then, later that day Brianna texted Travis

saying Hey, what you did for me was honestly amazing and sweet but, I don't want to go to

prom with you I have eyes on someone else thank you though. Travis replied WOW I wasted

my time and money on you for a proposal to make it sweet and romantic and you end up

declining my offer goodbye. After, she felt bad but she ended up not going with him at all and

everyone was over it. After all, you shouldn't ask someone through promposal if you don't know

them or you shouldn't ask them if it isn't a 100% yes.

Some schools are trying to ban promposals from ever happening again. In some school

currently are banned in school hours and if you try to do them during school you get in huge

trouble because it's getting serious now. Research shows that this school in philly banned it for

good you can't even do it at all. The principal states that Promposals are pointless now it's

getting old do it the right way (phillymag.com). After all banning promposals is pointless

because students in school are still trying to find a way to still do it and make there other happy.
After all, promposals to me personally are pointless and should be banned because you're

just wasting your time and money making a 5 minute presentation for your significant other just

for them to say yes? I don't think that's necessary to do in my school and any other school.

Writing piece 2- Sleep Times

Sleep Deprivation

It's 8:00am and Neil, a student rushes to prepare himself for a long day in Bridgeword high

school. He rushes through his dirty laundry looking for something to wear. As the mint

toothpaste is applied to his yellowing teeth Neil remembers that he hasn't started any of the

homework assigned the day before. He had been so caught up on his History project that he

forgot to finish the rest of his work. It had been 1:00am by the time this student athlete had

finally taken a break from the tedious and stressful day, only to relive this worst day ever . Sleep

deprivation is a problem so much people face in today's society. It is a factor for matters

concerning health problems, depression, and one's ability to learn. A study conducted at Stanford

University showed that 87% of US high school students get less than 8 to 10 hours of sleep. But,
at least you need to get 8 to 10 hours of sleep. The study further explains that this may be due to

the early start times in US high schools.

This statement expresses the negative effects

sleep deprivation will have on ones academic skill and focus. Even if one were to take the extra

time from their sleep to study the work given, they would be more likely to fail upcoming tests.

Sleep deprivation also has health drawbacks such as obesity, heart disease, risk of type 2

diabetes, memory loss and many more effects. A recent study made by the Sleep Foundation

found that only 15% of teens get at least 8 hours of sleep on school nights. This would mean

that 85% of teens are sleep deprived in America. This high percentage is most likely do to the

number of hours it takes to complete homework assignments. According to an article How

School Start times Affect High School athletics published in the Atlantic Times the article it

states how schools starting at 10 a.m. will help athletes have more rest also, not dozing off in

class. For example, 44% of Students usually go to sleep around 11 or 12 at night and only get a

decent amount of sleep and the later start times proves it helps students learning ability.
Homework is more time consumption and gives students less time to do what really matters. A

study at Phoenix University said that high school teachers assign on average 3.5 hours worth of

homework. This is the time teachers expect students to finish, but those who struggle in a certain

academic skill may spend more than just 3.5 hours on the work taking up time for the more

essential things in life such as sleep. This also interferes with one's social life and makes time

management more difficult. The amount of homework students receive create for a high majority

of sleep deprivation in the US. If we lower school start times the 90% of students affected may

see change in their sleep patterns. According to the article Later High School Start Times a

Challenge for Districts published by the US. news, 40% percent of high school starts

before 8 a.m.However, Academic performances also, completion of work all

increased over time. But, if the schools start 8:35 am or later also, the tardiness

decreased because over the later start time.

In conclusion, we feel that in light of all this information and research, we have proven our point

that schools should have later starting times. Also, since we have all the statistics to back up our

claim. Blackstone academy charter school in Pawtucket, Rhode Island should try starting school

a little later in September. To see if the later starting time has a positive effect on students grades

and general well-being.
