3. Nature of Event :
Unit tripped due to tripping of UAT transformer on protection cause of incomer LV winding shot. (Electrical
Problem)
4. Name of First Up, Main Protections & protection on which GCB tripped:
Generator tripped on "UAT diffrential protection" . Turbine tripped on interlock. Boiler tripped on "AIl BFp Off' &
MFT.

5 A) Obseruations :-
Unit was running at 430 MW load, UAT-6A was in charged condition from HV side on no load since 10.02.15 and
was under obseruation with normal winding & oil temperatures. Suddenly on 12.02.2015 @19iL7 Hrs UAT6A tripped
on Differential protection, Buccholtz relay & PRV operated, This cause unit tripping. Oil spillage also noticed through
PRV near transformer. After transformer checking LV winding resistance found unbalanced.

5 B) Remedial Action/work done :-

UAT-6A HV link isolated to carry out rewinding and repair work of the transformer after through internal inspection
and accessing the extent of damage to LV winding, HV winding, TAP winding & other internal accessories of the
transformer.
Oil sample sent to DGA analysis at CCOTL, Nagpur. The DGA analysis showed generation of key Hydrocarbon gases
above permissible limits, indicating "Arc with power flow through a persistent sparking".

6. Root Cause Analysis :-

UAT tripped due to failure of LV winding of the transformer.

7. Preventive action suggested (Shott Term) :- Nil

8. Preventive action suggested (Long Term) :-

Complete rewinding of the transformer and replacement of faulty accessories.
