Abstract

Introduction: Puskesmas (Community Health Centre) is a part of District Health Office as


Technical Executing Unit responsible for organizing health development in a specified
working area. One of the steps to improve the quality of service in a health facility can be
carried out by Occupational Health and Safety Management. Tasikmadu Community Health
Centre belong to the criteria of workplace with a variety of hazards that can cause health
impact, not only for the employee, but also to the patients and visitors. From these
statements, it is necessary to identify potential hazards which is a step to acquire thorough
information regarding the risks which are found by explaining the mildest to the most severe
consequences in Tasikmadu Community Health Centre.

Methods: The source of the data we used are primary data obtained through the literatures,
field studies, and interviews conducted in Tasikmadu Community Health Centre in May
June 2016.

Results: The results of this study indicate the activity of health workers and patients has been
structured in accordance to the patient service flow. Potential hazards in Tasikmadu
Community Health Centre are: 1) Broken cables and excessive use of electric current, 2) No
medical waste management and indiscriminate disposal of medical waste, 3) Unmaintained
and slippery bathroom floor, 4) Insecure placement of the oxygen tube, 5) Buildings that are
not high enough, 6) Cracked floor tiles, 7) Absence of evacuation path instruction, 8)
Absence of fire extinguisher, 9) Puddle in the Community Health Centre, 10) Messy use of
Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).

Conclusions:The implementation of Occupational Health, Safety and Environment (OHSE)


in Tasikmadu Community Health Centre is still not ideal.

Suggestion:The author suggests the need for additional OHSE officer at the Health Centre,
socialization and training on OHSE for the health workers, performing maintenance on
equipment and installation, as well as doing a work environment monitoring on a regular
basis.
