ABSTRACT
Westem civilization considered until a Cewdecades ago, tbat mind was "located" in
!he brain. Beginning with !he work oC Walter B. Cannon it was demonstrated that when
!he body prepared itself for coping with a stress situation, adrenaline secretion increased,
and tbe heart and the digestive system were affected, In other words, emotions were
translated into visible bodily maniCestations. Later on Hans Selyeshowed that the stress
response causes physicallessions. EdmundJacobson demonstrated!he interaction between
muscular flexions and relaxation. Neal E. Miller investigated the modification of non-
voluntary behaviors: Digestion, bood circulation, and heart rateo Today, the scientific
discipline of psychoneuroinmunology --cohen, Pert, and other autbors- investigates
the interaction between the brain and the inmune system.
las clulas nerviosas interaccionan directamente con los rganos del sistema
inmunolgico, como la adrenalina y otras hormonas asociadas al estrs.
"...no puedo decir que cuando tengo miedo, tristeza, dolor, llega siempre a
