Planetary Afflictions
As this bock deals with remedial measures for evils caused
by planetary afflictions it will be of great use to know in what
manner the planets and the carious houses of the horoscope
getof acted.
A planet is said to be afflicted in the following
circumstances-

is afflicted also, but the 10th house is not very much afflicted
because Jupiter aspects the 10th house (his own house). The
native though started humbly is now well set up in his

The 7th house (house of married happiness) is also afflicted
because of the evil influence of Rahu and Ketu. The lord of

This means-May the Sun, who gives form to the Moon, who
is pathway for those who are after eternal bliss or
salvation, who is the soul of the sages (who know themselves),
who is the object of worship among those who perform
sacrifices, who is chief among the gods, planets and stars (the
centre of the universe), who is the author for destruction,
creation and preservation of all the worlds, who is invoked
in the Vedas in various ways-may that Sun of variegated
rays, the light of three worlds, give us speech.
Sun stands to us as a symbol of spirit. Sun is the soul of
Kalapurusha (The Moon is his mind, Mercury is his speech,
Mars is his strength, Jupiter is his knowledge and happiness,
Venus is his desire and Saturn is his misery, etc.). It is said
that the several constituents of Kalapurusha are either strong
or weak according to the strength of the planets representing
them, only Saturn is exempted. Whenever Saturn is weak
misery will be much greater and will predominate. But if
Saturn is strong there will be less misery.
MOON (Chandra)
Sun is said to be the generator of power whereas Moon is
considered to be the conductor of power lent by the Sun.
The rays of the Sun reflected by the Moon dispel the
darkness of the night on earth just in the same manner as
light reflected from a mirror placed in the Sun removes the
darkness in the house.
Sun gives the spirit and life to all planets and the Moon is
said to rule over the lives of the beings on earth. Sun
represents individuality whereas Moon shows one's
personality. Moon also represents mother. Sun is masculine
and Moon is feminine. Hence the person born under the
rulership of Moon becomes timid, vacillating, receptive and
convertible. Sun is a fiery planet whereas Moon is a watery
one.
Moon governs over impregnation, conception, birth of
child, the animal instinct, the union and the embryo. She also
rules the infant stage of a person and has a powerful
influence on their lives. Afflicted Moon at the time of birth
causes ailments frequently and does not allow the native to
have proper growth. Stomach will be upset and frequent
vomitting reduces
vitality.
Moon is a cold planet. Afflicted Moon often causes cold and
fever. Her characteristic is changeability. Hence her influence
is unsettling. If one is in service,his desire will be to have
frequent changes. He will often change his residence. Moon
moves very, fast and is waxing and waning. The persons born
with Moon as their ruling planet (natives of Cancer
Ascendant) will ever be unsettled, wavering and vacillating.
Afflicted Moon causes indecision, lack of mental balance
and suffering from over-anxiety. If Moon is afflicted by Mars,
the person will be impulsive, rash and reckless and will
develop strong attraction to the opposite sex, causing ill
health and bringing bad reputation. If Moon is afflicted by
Saturn, the person will be depressed and funky. He will have
fear and inferiority complex. He will also become pessimistic.
He will have weak concentration power. Affliction of Moon also
disturbs family life.
The diseases caused by an afflicted Moon are: Eye diseases,
lunacy, paralysis, hysteria, epilepsy, dropsy, Beri-beri, cold,
cough, colic pains, worms, intestinal disorders, catamenial
disorders, tumours, peritonites, throat troubles, asthma,
eosonophilia, bronchitis, varicos veins, complications due to
excess of drinks, hydrocele, dysentry,scrofula, nervous
debility, gastric troubles, cancer, typhoid, etc.

Mercury is a variably, convertible, vacillating, neutral and
dualistic planet.

Saturn is called 'Yama' because he is the Chief governor
for longevity. He is a barren, binding, cold, dry, defensive,
hard, nervous and secretive planet.
Saturn is considered to be very favourable for people born
in the signs owned by Venus, whereas Saturn is evil to those
born in the signs owned by Mercury.
Saturn will cause delay. It can deny. It will disappoint.
Disharmony, dispute, difficulty, despondency, dejection and
differences are the outcomes of an evil Saturn. Plodding,
persevering, patiently working, prudence, frugality, economy,
saving, endurance, industry, thrift, power to keep secrets,
stability, self-control, sense of duty etc., are attributed to
Saturn.

This, means that mind can be controlled by devotedly
worshipping the God or by constantly praying in the language
of God (ikq t). His symbol is the holy monosyllable 'OM'. It is
this holy and divine word 'OM' that should be recited and its
meaning should be understood and well thought of.
On the other hand the Tantrikas have interpreted the word
'Mantra' as follows :-

According to them the word () means the knowledge of the
world and the word ( i ur) means freedom from worldly
'Vak' or the 'word' was the very image of the Lord Supreme
from the' beginning of the creation o f the visible world. Vak
or word (i ) is Brahma or the Eternal Spirit. In other words
this whole world represents Vak or Shabda and it is for this
reason that we can describe its constituents in words and
formulate mantras.

(8) If, in any nativity, Mercury and the lord of 2nd are in
6th and are showered with evil influences of Saturn and
Rahu, such a disposition will cause defects in speech as both
Mercury and 2nd house are significators of speech. In such
conditions the lord of the 2nd and Mercury will require to be
strengthened by the help of colour therapy and other means
(such as use of appropriate gem stone).
(9) Saturn is a sexless (eunuch) and scanty planet. Mercury
also has similar characteristics particularly when he is
conjoined with Saturn and has no other influence on it. In
this disposition Saturn and Mercury with their combined
characteristics will bring slowness, scantiness and weakness
to the house occupied by them. For example in a Leo
Ascendant nativity, Rahu is in the 6th in Capricorn, Mercury
and Saturn are in the 5th in Sagittarius and there is no
influence of any planet on Mercury and Saturn. In such
situation, Saturn being (a) a disease-causeing planet (b) lord
of sign occupied by Rahu and (c) lord of the house of diseases,
will cause stomach disorders and Mercury will give him full
assistance in this nefarious activity. Here the remedy will not
be to strengthen Mercury who wi11 act like Saturn by colour
therapy or any other means but to strengthen Jupiter lord
of the 5th by the native wearing a yellow Sapphire in a gold
ring and drinking water treated in sunlight in a yellow
coloured bottle.

This means that just as medicines (Ayurvedic) administered
with appropriate mediums (like milk, honey, fruit and
vegetable juices etc.) become more potent and curative, the
planets become more favourable or unfavourable according
to auspicious and inauspicious yogas (combinations and
dispositions) they form. The water assumes the shape of a
glass or a cup when put into it. The air gets contaminated in
a contaminated atmosphere and is full of fragrance and
fresh In uncontaminated atmosphere (just as prevailing in a
garden full of blooming and fragrant flowers). The clothes also
look beautiful on a well built body.
Many of the learneds, of whom Maxinullor is foremost,
are of the view that Rigveda is the oldest written book in
the world. In that Rigveda mention has been made of Ratna
(gem) in its very first mantra which is as under-

Undoubtedly in this mantra, prayers have been offered to
the Supreme Lord by the word 'Agni but the main thing to
note is that the Supreme Lord i (4 t+i~c+ir) had been mentioned
as (mac (), that is, one who wears ratnas (gems). This
indicates that gems are meant to be worn. There are different
interpretations for Vedic Mantras. It is very much possible
that this mantra of Rigueda intends to point out the intimate
relationship between Agni and Ratnas, that is, it throws a hint
that the heavenly fire (Aga is present in the ratnas in the
form of rays.
From times immemorial, gemstones have been used by men
and women for decoration and for their welfare. The
Dictionary meaning of the word 'gem' i s - ' a precious stone; a
precious stone on which is engraved a design, anything of
outstanding quality, worth or beauty; the best, the choicest'.
RUBY
For the Leo Ascendant Sun will be the lord of the Ascendant.
Ruby will act as a protective charm for the natives of this
Ascendant and they can wear it for their whole life. By wearing
ruby the natives will be protected from enemies, will enjoy
good mental and physical health and also get long life. They
will also achieve success in their professional ventures and
gain wealth and spiritual power. For the natives of this
Ascendant ruby is a `must' if Sun is afflicted in any way and
the native faces hardhips and distress on that account.
REMEDIAL MEASURES IN ASTROLOGY
For the Virgo Ascendant Sun is lord of the 12th house (the
house of loss and expenditure). The natives of this Ascendant
should wear a ruby only in the major period of Sun if he is
in his own sign in the 12th house. Otherwise they should
never wear a ruby.
For the Libra Ascendant Sun, who is an enemy of Venus,
lord of this Ascendant, is lord of the 11th house (the house
of gains). The natives of this Ascendant will have gains of
wealth if ruby is worn in the major period of Sun. If Sun is
afflicted in any way and the native suffers from losses in all
his ventures, ruby can be owrn always.
PEARL
RED CORAL
Red coral is the gemstone for Mars. Red coral should be worn
by person in whose birth chart Mars is lord of an auspicious
house. If Mars is well placed and is strong, wearing of Red
coral will enhance the quantum of beneficial effects. If Mars
as a lord of an auspicious house is afflicted, wearing of Red
coral will neutralise the consequent evil effects and will afford
protection to the native from them.
For the Virgo Ascendant Mars is lord of the 3rd and 8th
house-both being inauspicious. The native of this Ascendant
should, as far as possible, avoid wearing red coral.
For the Libra Ascendant Mars is lord of the 2nd and 7th
both maraka sthana (house of death). Venus the lord of this
Ascendant is not a friend of Mars. We would advise that
natives of this Ascendant should avoid wearing red coral.
However, if the major period does not come in old age and the
birth chart does not show short longevity, the person
concerned can wear red coral in the major period of Mars
when he is in his own sign. Generally we are averse to
recommend gem stones related to the lords of sthana ma
who are not friends of the lord of the Ascendant.
For the Scorpio Ascendant Mars is lord of the Ascendant and
the 6th house. The remarks made by us about the wearing of
the red coral by the natives of the Aries Ascendant would apply
to this Ascendant also.
For the Sagittarius Ascendant Mars is lord of the 5th (a trine)
and the 12th. Being lord of a trine Mars has been considered
as a functional benefic for this Ascendant. By wearing red
coral the natives of this Ascendant will enjoy happiness of
children, become more intelligent, achieve name and fame
and will be blessed with good fortune. If the native is a
student, he would achieve success in competitive
examinations. The quantum of beneficial effects will be more
pronounced in the major period of Mars. Wearing a yellow
sapphire with red coral would enhance the beneficial effects.
For the Capricorn Ascendant Mars is lord of the 4th and
11th houses. If red coral is worn in the major period of Mars,
the native gets happiness from the side of mother, domestic
harmony, gains of land, house property and wealth.
For the Aquarius Ascendant Mars is lord of the 3rd and 10th
houses. If Mars is in his own sign in the 10th wearing of red
coral in the major periods of Mars brings favours and
recognition from government, gains of wealth and success in
the professional sphere. The native will also enjoy full benefits
of the Ruchaka Yoga, one of the Panch mahapurusha Yogas.
If Mars is not in his own sign in the 3rd or the 10th, it will
not be advisable for the native of this Ascendant to wear red
coral.
For the Pisces Ascendant Mars being lord of the 2nd (house
of wealth) and 9th (house of Bhagya good fortune), wearing
of red coral by the natives of this Ascendant will yield very
beneficial results. The quantum of favourable results will be
more pronounced in the major period of Mars. It will be more
advantageous ff red coral is worn alongwith yellow sapphire,
the gemstone of the lord of this Ascendant.
Red coral should be worn in a gold mixed with copper ring
in the ring finger of the right hand on the morning of a
EMERALD
Emerald is the gemstone of Mercury. Emerald should be
worn by those in whose nativities Mercury is lord of
auspicious house. If Mercury is well placed, wearing of
emerald will enhance the good effects of Mercury. If Mercury
is afflicted In any way, wearing of emerald will neutralise the
evil effects and afford protection against them.
For the Aries Ascendant Mercury is lord of the 3rd and 6th
houses. Wearing of an emerald by the natives of this
Ascendant is not advisable. It can be worn, if necessary, only
in the major period of Mercury if he be in his own sign in the
3rd or the 6th.
For the Taurus Ascendant Mercury being the lord of the 2nd
and 5th houses (5th house is a trine) is a very beneficial
planet. He acts like a yogakaraka. By wearing emerald, the
native wi11 get harmony in the family, gains of wealth,
intelligence, happiness in regard to children, name, fame,
good fortune and success in competitive examinations and
ventures. The quantum of beneficial effects will be more
pronounced in the major period of Mercury. The native will
become more prosperous if he wears emerald with diamond,
the gemstone of the lord of this Ascendant.
YELLOW SAPPHIRE
Yellow sapphire is the gemstone ofJupiter. Yellow sapphire
will prove very beneficial if Jupiter in a nativity is lord of
auspicious houses. If such Jupiter is afflicted in any way,
wearing of yellow sapphire will neautralise the consequent evil
effects and will provide protection to the native.
For the Aries Ascendant Jupiter is lord of the 9th (a trine)
and 12th houses. On account of his lordship of a trine, he
is considered a benefic for this Ascendant. By wearing a
yellow sapphire, the native of this Ascendant will acquire
knowledge of scriptures, will become more intelligent, gain
wealth, name and fame and good fortune, and the father of
the native will enjoy good health and be long lived. The
beneficial results will be more pronounced if yellow sapphire
is worn in the major period of Jupiter. Yellow sapphire
becomes more effective if it is worn alongwith red coral, the
gemstone of Mars, the lord of this Ascendant.
For the Taurus Ascendant Jupiter is lord of the 8th and
11th houses. According to principles of Hindu astrology,
Jupiter is not considered an auspicious planet for this
Ascendant. Apart from Venus, the lord of this Ascendant is
an enemy of Jupiter. Still if Jupiter as lord of the 11th, is in
the Ascendant, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 9th or 11th an his own sign),
yellow sapphire can be worn with advantage in the major
period of Jupiter.
For the Gemini Ascendant Jupiter is lord of the 7th and
10th (both quadrants) houses. He, therefore, suffers from
Kendra-adhipati,Dosha and is also a maraka. However, if as
lord of 10th, he is in the Ascendant, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 10th, (in
his own house causing Hamsa Yoga) or 9th and 11th, yellow
sapphire can be worn with advantage in the major period of
Jupiter. But persons of this nativity who are seriously ill, or
are in their old age, or their horoscopes indicate a short span
of life should not wear yellow sapphire, as Jupiter is a strong
maraka for this Ascendant. If yellow sapphire is worn when
the lord of the 10th is in his own sign, the native will have
unprecedented succes in his professional career and will
receive honours and recognition from government.
For the Libra Ascendant Jupiter is lord of the 3rd and the
6th-two inauspicious houses. According to the principles of
Hindu Astrology, Jupiter is not, therefore, considered to be
an auspicious planet for this Ascendant. Besides these facts,
Venus, lord of this Ascendant, is an enemy of Jupiter. In these
circumstances it would normally not be advisable for the
natives of this Ascendant to wear a yellow sapphire. But
according to 'Bhavarth Ratnakar' a recognised and
authoritative book on Hindu astrology, Jupiter, ,spite of
being lord of 3rd and 6th, is a yoga giving planet. Ire view of
this, we would advise that yellow sapphire could be worn by
the natives of this Ascendant in the major period of Jupiter if
he be in his own sign in the 3rd or the 6th.
DIAMOND
Diamond is the gemstone of Venus. If Venus as lord of
auspicious houses is well placed in a nativity, wearing of a
diamond will enhance the good effects. If Venus is afflicted in
any way, wearing of diamond will neutralise the consequent
evil effects and provide protection to the native.
For the A s Ascendant Venus being lord of the 2nd and
7th houses, is a strong maraka (killer). Besides this, Venus
and Mars-the lord of this Ascendant, are not friends. Still if
Venus in any nativity be in his own sign or be exalted or
otherwise well placed, the wearing of diamond will ensure
gains of wealth, happy relations in the family, marital
happiness and acquisition of conveyanaces. But as pointed
above, Venus is a strong maraka for this Ascendant, persons
whose birth charts do not indicate long life, should avoid
wearing diamond.
For the Leo Ascendant Venus being the lord of 3rd and 10th
houses, is not considered to be an auspicious planet. We are
of the view that if Venus, as lord of the 10th, is in the
Ascendant, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th, 9th, 10th an his own sign
causing Amala and Malauya Yogas--too wealth and name
and fame gaving yogas) or 11th, wearing of diamond in the
major period of Venus will promote the professional career
of the native,.He-will have abundant gains of wealth and will
be honoured and recognised.
For the Virgo Ascendant Venus is lord of the 2nd and 9th
(a trine) house and is almost a yogakaraka. Therefore, by
wearing a diamond the native wi11 become wealthy and his
learning and good fortune will enable him to achieve success
in all his ventures. Wearing diamond with emerald, the
gemstone of Mercury, the lord of this Ascendant will prove
even more beneficial to the native.
For the LibraAscendant Venus is lord of the Ascendant and
the 8th. His lordship of the Ascendant will prevail over the
lordship of the 8th. The natives of this Ascendant can and
should wear diamond as a protective charm for the whole of
their life. Wearing of diamond will bestow good health, long
life, name and fame, success in ventures and gains of wealth
to the native. It is a 'must' for the natives of this Ascendant
in the major period of Venus.
For the Scorpio Ascendant Venus is lord of the 7th and 12th.
Therefore, it will normally not be advisable for the natives of
this Ascendant to wear diamond.
For the Sagittarius Ascendant Venus being lord of the 6th
and 11th houses, is not considered to be an auspicious planet
for this Ascendant. Further, Venus is an enemy of Jupiter, the
lord of this Ascendant. Still if as lord of 11th Venus is in the
Ascendant, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 6th (in his own sign), 7th, 9th, or
11th (in his own sign) wearing of diamond in the major period
of Venus will bring abundant financial gains.
For the Capricorn Ascendant Venus being lord of the 5th (a
trine) and 10th (a quadrant) houses, is a yogakaraka planet.
For the Aquarius Ascendant also Venus is a yogakaraka on
account of his lordship of the 4th (a quadrant) and 9th .(a
trine) houses. Therefore, the natives of these two Ascendants
will gain in every way by wearing a diamond. The wearing of
a diamond is a `must' for the natives of these Ascendants in
the major period of Venus. The good results wi11 be
significantly enhanced if diamond is worn alongwith blue
sapphire.
For the Pisces Ascendant Venus being lord of the 3rd and
8th is a very inauspicious planet. Venus is also enemy of the
lord of this Ascendant. We would, therefore, not advise the
natives of this Ascendant to wear diamond.
Diamond should be worn in a platinum, with gold or silver
ring in the little finger of the right hand on the morning of a
Shukla Paksha Friday after performing the usual rituals.
Diamond is a very costly gem. Therefore, it is not possible to
fix any minimum weight for it but we are of the view that it
should be of at least 1-carats.

BLUE SAPPHIRE
Blue sapphire is Saturn's gemstone. When in a nativity
Saturn is lord of auspicious houses and is well placed, blue
sapphire will enhance the good effects of Saturn and those
houses. If such Saturn is afflicted, wearing of a blue sapphire
will neutralise the consequent evil effects and provide
protection to the native.
Although blue sapphire is very beneficial for those for whom
it is suitable but some very unlucky stones come out of the
earth. Blue sapphire should, therefore, always be worn after a
trial because an unlucky stone can play havoc with the life of
the native.
For the A s Ascendant Saturn is lord of the 10th and 11th
houses. Although both the houses are auspicious, Saturn has
not been considered as an auspicious planet for this
Ascendant because of the lordship of the 11th house. But we
can say with full confidence that if Saturn as lord of the 10th
and 11th is posited in Ascendant, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th (in his
sign of exaltation causing Sasa yoga), 9th, 10th (in his own
sign causing Sasa yoga), wearing of blue sapphire in the
major period of Saturn will bring to the native immense
success in professional sphere and abundant financial gains.
For the Taurus Ascendant Saturn being lord of 9th (a trine)
is considered to be auspicious. For this Ascendant it will be
very beneficial to wear blue sapphire in the major period of
Saturn. The good results will be pronounced if blue sapphire
is worn alongwith emerald, the gemstone of the lord of the
Ascendant.
For Gemini Ascendant Saturn becomes lord of 8th & 9th
houses and the Mool Trikona Rasi falls in the 9th house. The
reader will see that the case becomes ambiguous here. If
Saturn is evilly placed in this case i.e., placed in 6, 8 or 12th
then we cannot wear blue sapphire in its period. But blue
sapphire can be worn ff its placement is in the 9th house, or
5th house or if placed in other beneficial houses with Venus
or Mercury because association with these two planets
induces beneficial results for Saturn. Blue sapphire can be
worn in Saturn dasa if Saturn is in 10th with Jupiter. This is
the only case when it is with most beneficial planet Jupiter
otherwise it becomes a first rate Maraka.
For the Cancer Ascendant Saturn is the lord of the 7th (a
maraka stluxna) and the 8th (house of longevity and death).
Therefore, the natives of this Ascendant should never touch
a blue sapphire.
The same applies to Leo Ascendant where Saturn is lord
of the 6th and 7th and a bitter enemy of Sun, the lord of this
Ascendant.
For the Virgo Ascendant Saturn is lord of 5th (a trine) and
6th. As Saturn is lord of a trine also, blue sapphire can be
worn with advantage by the natives of this Ascendant: but it
will be advisable to wear blue sapphire alongwith emerald,
the gemstone of the lord of this Ascendant.
For the Libra Ascendant Saturn being the lord of 4th and
5th, is a yogakaraka. Saturn is also an intimate friend of
Venus, the lord of this Ascendant. Therefore, wearing of blue
sapphire by the natives of this Ascendant will bring them
domestic happiness, gain of landed and house property,
happiness in regard to mother and children, intelligence, good
fortune and success in competitive ventures. Blue sapphire
will prove more beneficial if it is worn with diamond, the
gemstone of Venus, the lord of Ascendant, or emerald, the
gemstone of Mercury, the lord of the 9th.
For the ScorpioAscendant Saturn being lord of the 3rd and
4th houses is not considered to be an auspicious planet
according to Parashart principles. Still, if Saturn is in his own
sign in the 3rd or 4th, blue sapphire can be worn with
advantage in the major period of Saturn.
For the Sagittarius Ascendant Saturn being lord of the 2nd
(maraka sthana) and the 3rd house, is not considered to be
an auspicious planet for this Ascendant. Therefore, normally
the natives of this Ascendant should not wear blue sapphire.
But Brihat Jatak says as under :

This means that if Saturn occupies the Ascendant at a
person's birth, he will be poor, sickly, love-stricken, very
unclean, suffering from diseases during his childhood and
indistinct in his speech. If any one of the signs Sagittarius,
Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn and Libra be the Ascendant and
Saturn should occupy it at birth, the person concerned will
b equal to a king, the headman of a village or the mayor of
a city, a great scholar and will be handsome. In the other
houses Saturn produces the same effect as that of Sun in
those places.
Thus the natives of the Sagittarius Ascendant can wear
blue sapphire in the major period of Saturn if he is posited
in the Ascendant. They will reap the benefits mentioned by
BrlhatJatak subject to the structure of the birth chart being
otherwise not weak
For the Capricorn Ascendant Saturn is lord of the
Ascendant and the 2nd house (house of wealth and maraka
sthana). As Saturn is lord of the Ascendant who always
protects the native, he will never act as a maraka.
For the Aquarius Ascendant Saturn is lord of the Ascendant
and the 12th. He will act more as lord of the Ascendant as
his Moola trtkona sign falls in it. Therefore, the natives of these
two Ascendants should always wear blue sapphire which will
not only act as a protective charm but will also enable the
natives to enjoy good health, long life, gains of wealth and
success in all ventures. It will be very beneficial for the natives
of these two Ascendants to wear blue sapphire alongwith
diamond, the gemstone of Venus who is a yogakaraka for
both these, Ascendants.
For the Pisces Ascendant Saturn. being lord of the 11th and
12th houses, is considered to be am inauspicious planet for
this Ascendant. We are, however, of the view that if as lord
of the 11th, Saturn is in the Ascendant (where he causes
Rajayoga) 2nd, 4th; 5th, 9th and 11th (in his own sign), blue
sapphire can be worn to the major period of Saturn for
financial gains. We would, however, advise that the natives
of this Ascendant should wear blue sapphire in the major
period of Saturn only when he is in 11th in his own sign or
in the Ascendant.
Gems are mines of cosmic rays. These rays are, for intents
and purposes, omnipotent, ominscient and omnipresent. The
cosmic rays know the disease by their omniscience, they cure
by their omnipotence and they spread to all parts of the body
by their omnipresence Dr. Bhattachanya found after
experience of more than a decade that gems were highly

In this manner the Great Lord, the Lord of the Lords, the
universal Grand father, always creates Time. He being of the
Essence of Time, with a body endowed with all conceivable
powers. The rays that compose His body, are omnipresent,
and illuminate the limitless worlds in the universe, and
among them seven are the best and the highest because they
form the matrices of the seven planets" (Karma Parana)
Chapter 43, Verses 1-2).
Sun
(1) If as a result of ill positing of the Sun, the native
suffers from troubles signified by Sun such as heart
trouble, harassment by government, eye or stomach
trouble, he should give in charity things like jaggery (Gu>j,
wheat, and copper. As Sun represents Lord Vishu, the
recitation or reading of Harlvansh Purana would help in
alleviating the sufferings of the native.
Moon
(1) It is well known that the metal connected with Moon
is silver. When Moon placed in any house in a horoscope is
causing trouble or the native suffers in respect of matters
connected with Moon such as illness of mother, mental worry
or mental debility, affection in the lungs or some lung
diseases, or lack of money, the remedial measure suggested
to ward off such troubles is to get silver sewpt away in a river.
Another measure suggested is to keep water or milk in a
vessel near the head of the bed at night and to pour it in the
morning on a Kikartree. The inference from these measures
seems to be to give in charity, things like silver, water or milk
connected with Moon.
Mars
The most ordinary way to propitiate an evil Mars and to
ward off troubles caused by him is to give in charity sweet
chapatis prepared in a tandoor. Mars is also propitiated if
sweetened white til preparations (rewri,es- a $1) or Batasha
(this is made from sugar) are thrown to be swept away in a
river or where there is running water. The other things to be
given in charity to ward off evils caused by Mars are Masoor
Dal and deer's skin. The deity of Mars is Lord Hanuman who
should be devotedly worshipped and the Prasadam of

Mercury
If Mercury proves evil to any person, in order to protect
himself from the harm done by Mercury's affliction, he should
bum cowries (c1 4l) and the ashes should be thrown in a river
on the same day. (The canals etc. originating from a river
should be treated as a river for this purpose). Another
remedial measure is to throw a copper paisa with hole in it
in the river. The thing to be given in charity is unsplit Moong.
To strengthen Mercury, emerald should be worn. According
to Lal Kifab, the deity of Mercury is Goddess Durga. Therefore,
Goddess Durga should be devotedly worshipped and the
related prayer book should be regularly read. For those for
whom Mercury is evil, getting their nose pierced will prove
useful. Cleaning of teeth by alum (fbecn~l) and worshipping
unmarried girls also ward off the troubles caused by an evil
Mercury. If the native suffers from any disease on account
of the malevolence of Mercury, he should give unsweetened
pumpkin (which is used by sweetmeat makers) in charity.
Donations may also be made to religious institutions.
Mercury is also propitiated by giving goats in charity.
Jupiter
If Jupiter is malevolent in any nativity, his evil effects could
be neutralised if each blood relation of the family of the native
gives a paisa as offering in a temple. Jupiter is also propitiated
by looking after, watering and worshipping a peeps[ tree. The
things related to Jupiter which are to be given in charity, to
propitiate him are saffron ( t i t ) turmeric i (ecdl), dais, gram
and gold. Though the deity connected with Jupiter is
Brahma, but if on account of inauspicious position of Jupiter
in the horoscope, the native is deprived of a son, he should
devotedly worship Hari ().
Venus
If Venus is evil in a birth chart, his evil effects ' will be
neutralised if the native gives a part of his meal to the cows.
He should also give in charity a cow and cattle feed. The other
things connected with Venus which could be given in charity
are ghee, curd, camphor and white pearl. It will also prove
useful if the native makes donations or himself takes up the
maintenance of the poor section of. the public especially
women. The deity of Venus, Goddess Lakshami should be
devotedly worshipped.
Saturn
If Saturn is evil in any nativity, it will do good to the native if
he throws small balls made of wheat flour to the fish to eat. It
also proves beneficial if a part of one's meal is given to the
crows. The things connected with Saturn to be given in
charity are black unsplit Urd, iron, oil, leather, stones and
things made of on like oven (Angithi), Chimta, mustard oil,
wine and spirit. The deity of Saturn is Lord Shim who should
be devotedly worshipped.
Rahu
To neutralise the malevolent effects of an evil Rahu, in a
birth-chartcoconut should be thrown to be swept away in a
river. Another remedy is to wash barley with milk and throw it
in running water (of a river or canal). If any person suffers
from Tuberculosis on account of the evil effects of Rahu, he
should wash barley with cow's urine and keep it in a closed
tin or box and at the same time he should clean his teeth with
cow's urine. Giving in charity of radish also protects from the
evil effects of Rahu. Throwing of coal in a river has also been
found useful. The things connected with Rahu to be given in
charity are mustard and blue sapphire. These t h s should
be given in charity to a sweeper (Bhangi). If Rahu proves evil
in the 8th house, throwing of a counterfeit coin in the river,
propitiates Rahu.
Ketu
It will prove beneficial to feed dogs if Ketu is evil in any birth
chart. Amongst things to be given in charity to propitiate
Ketu, the author of Lal Kitab includes sesamum seeds (tin)
also. If the son of the native is not obedient and misbehaves
towards him, the native should donate a blanket to a temple.
If there is any trouble in the legs or in urination, the native
should wear a white thread of pure silk and a silver ring with
pearl set in it. The deity of Ketu is Lord Ganesha. who should
be devotedly worshipped.
SUN
Sun: Eyes-Sun being source of light represents eye. The
Moon who receives light of the Sun distributes it further.
Moon, therefore, also represents eye. In the birth-chart the
2nd and 12th houses represent the two eyes. Therefore, the
problem of eye-sight, blindness etc., should be examined with
reference to the 2nd and 12th houses, their lords, Sun and
Moon (See Birth Chart No. 1 in the next chapter)
Bun: Stomach-If the 5th house, lord of the 5th and the sign
Leo, are afflicted alongwith Sun by maleflcs like Saturn, Mars,
etc., the part of the b y indicated by them stomach gets
into disorder. (See B.C. No. 3).
MOON
Moon: Eyes-The Moon is a s i g c a t o r of the left eye-so is
the 12th house. If Moon becomes lord of the 12th and falls
under evil influence, harm comes to left eye.
Moon: W e adiction-Moon is especially connected with
eating and drinking-~so are the lords of the 2nd and the
Ascendant. When all these planets fall under the evil influence
or Rahu, who is foul and filthy and a drunkard, the native
becomes a liquor-adict or drug-adict (See B.C. No. 5).
MARS
Mars: Violent nature-Mars by nature is a fiery and violent
planet. When he becomes lord of the 6th and 11th in a nativity
and also is lord of th sign occupied by Ketu, his violent nature
will become more pronounced. If such a Mars exerts his
influence on mind, that is, the 4th house, its lord and Moon,
the native becomes so violent that he may not hesitate even
to commit a murder.
MERCURY
Mercury: Short l M e r c u r y is a Kumar (very young).
When Mercury and Moon (significator of infancy) are badly
afflicted, the native is likely to die in infancy even though an
exalted or retrograde Jupiter maybe aspecting the Ascendant.
Mercury: Kidneys--The Mooia trikona sign of Mercury is
Virgo which represents kidneys. When the sign Virgo, 6th
house, its lord and Mercury be afflicted, (particularly when
such a situation arises both from the Ascendant and Chandra
Lagta), the Kidneys get diseased and may have to be removed.
JUPITER
Jupiter: Weak brain power-Although Jupiter is a great
benefic and becomes a stronger benefic when retrograde, if
he, as lord of the Ascendant, falls under five evil influences,
his benefic qualities will be superseded and subdued. Such
a Jupiter will be considered as a weak lord of the Ascendant
and the native will suffer from weak brain power. Such a
person will have retarded growth (See B.C. No. 10).
VENUS
Venus: Yogakaraka but weak-Even if a planet be a
yogakarka being lord of a quadrant or trine, if he falls under a
strong malevolent influence, he, instead of giving wealth and
prosperity, makes the native bankrupt.
Venus: Uterine cancer-If Venus be lord of 7th from the
Moon and be in the 7th from the Ascendant and be afflicted
by a number of maleffcs, the native ff a woman suffers from
uterine cancer. The same would be the effect ff the planet is
lord of the 7th from the Ascendant and is In the 7th from
Moon and is badly afflicted.
SATURN
Saturn: Colic pairs--Saturn and Rahu are habitual pain
givers. If the three Lagnas viz, the Lagna, Chandra Lagna and
Surya Lagna (the Ascendant, Moon sign and Sun sign) and
their lords be under the evil influence of Saturn and Rahu,
the native suffers from severe colic pains. There is likelihood
of pain In other parts of the body also (See B.C. No. 14).
Saturn in 8th: Short life-It is generally believed (and it is
so staled in a number of classical texts particularly Bhavarth
Ratnakar) that Saturn in the 8th gives long We. This happens
only if Saturn is in 8th in his own sign, in sign of exaltation
or in a friendly sign. If Saturn be in the 8th in an enemy sign,
especially as being lord of a sign occupied by Mars, the native
will be short lived. (See. B.C. No. 14).
Saturn: Education-The 2nd and 4th houses in a nativity
deal with education. If these houses or their lords get afflicted,
the native takes no interest in getting educated. (See B.C.
No. 15).
Saturn: Chronic diseases-When Saturn and Rahu are
cause of a disease, it tends to become chronic.
RAHU: Leprosy-Rahu is a great malefic and is a foul and
filthy planet. When his evil influence falls on the Ascendant,
Moon sign, Sun sign and the 4th house, the native suffers
from leprosy.
Rahu: Indebtedness=-Like Saturn, Rahu also signifies
scantiness and scarcity. When his evil influence falls on
wealth-giving parts of the birth-chart, the native becomes
indebted. (See B.C. No. 16).
KETU--Like Mars Ketu is a fiery planet. He emits fire in his
aspect. He becomes more fiery if there is influence on him of
fiery planets like Mars and Sun.

Remedial Measures
Birth-chart No. 1
The second house is the

(a) It is a waning Moon
(within 72 degrees of Ketu

(d) Moon is lord of the sign occupied by Rahu.
(e) She is hemmed in between two malefics Mars and
Rahu.
The second house is also hemmed in between Mars and
Rahu. The lord of 2nd is in 11th in his sign of debilitation and
is also hemmed in between Sun and Saturn. Sun, the
significator of right eye though exalted, is in the 12th from
the Ascendant and is aspected by a powerful Saturn. Further
Saturn is also lord of the sign occupied by Ketu and he carries
with him the malefic influence of Ketu also. In these
circumstances the significations of the right eye are badly
damaged.
Now let us take the left eye. 12th house and Moon are
significators of left eye. We have already discussed the
position of Moon. The 12th house is aspected by Saturn
carrying with him the influence of Ketu. The lord of the 12th
Mars is hemmed in between Sun and malefic Moon. Mars is
associated with Venus, in his own sign, and Jupiter. This
apparently looks good but Jupiter is lord of 8th (where his
Moola trikona sign falls). Mars is also aspected by Ketu and
is in Kendra to Saturn. Thus the signification of the left eye
are also damaged. The result of all these dispositions of the
left eye are also damaged. The result of all these dispositions
was that the native became blind at the age of three. The
association of Mars with two natural benefics in the
Ascendant only prevented his being born blind. It is possible
that if Mars was strengthened before he became blind, he
might have retained some sight. Here the malefic influences
are so predominant that other remedial measures would not
be of much help.
(a) The lady should wear a gold ring with yellow sapphire
in it to strengthen Jupiter.
(b) Saturn and Sun who are responsible for destroying the
conjugal relations should be propitiated by prayers to their
deities, by giving in charity things connected with them and
by reciting regularly their mantras.
Incidentally the chart does not indicate long life for the
native. The Ascendant, lord of the Ascendant, Sun and Moon,
the lord of 8th house and Ayushkaraka (significator of
longevity) are all afflicted. The Ascendant is aspected by
malefics Mars and Ketu. Lord of the Ascendant Mercury is
hemmed in between Rahu and Sun. Sun's and Saturn's
afflictions we have alredy discussed. Moon is afflicted by Rahu
and Ketu. The 8th house is hemmed in between Rahu (by
aspect to the 7th) and Ketu who is in the 9th. Lord of the 8th
Mars is aspected by Saturn and Conjoined with Venus who
holds the evil influence of Ketu. All these evil influences
indicate suffering, continued illness and short life. But for
Jupiter in Kendra to the Ascendant the native might have died
In his infancy.
SUN
Sun is Kshatriya. Therefore, the one who receives things
connected with the Sun in charity should be Kshatriya. Sun
is king, kingdom or Government. Therefore, if the native is
harassed by Government officials, prayers can be offered to
Sun and Surya Namaskar maybe performed. Sun is light and
therefore, is a significator of eyesight. If Sun is afflicted in a
nativity causing trouble to eyes, the Sun should be
strengthened. This is done by wearing a ruby in a gold mixed
with copper ring. Sun is significator of heart. If, in any
nativity, there is evil influence of Rahu on Sun or his sign Leo,
there is possibility of a heart attack, particularly when the
5th house and the lord of the 5th be also under the influence
of Rahu. In such a situation the Sun is to be strengthened
and Rahu is to be propitiated.
If Moon being the lord of the 5th falls under the evil
influence of Rahu and Saturn and 5th house also under such
evil influence, the native wi11 suffer from loss of memory. In
such a case Moon will be required to be strengthened by the
native wearing a pearl in a silver ring. Saturn and Rahu
should be propitiated.
MARS
With Aries as the Ascendant, its Lord Mars is fully
representative of the longevity of the native as he is lord of
the Ascendant and the 8th house. Such Mars, if falls under
the evil influence of Saturn and Rahu, he becomes cause of
short life. It is, therefore, necessary to strengthen Mars to
prolong the life of the native by advising the native to wear a
red coral in gold or copper ring and to propitiate the planet
afflicting Mars in the prescribed manner.
if Scorpio be the ascendant, Mars will be fully representative
of blood. If such Mars be afflicted by conjuction or aspect by
Saturn, Rahu etc, the native will suffer from the ill effects of
pollution of blood. For purifying the blood, the native should
strengthen Mars by wearing coral in a silver ring so that the
Moon, another representative of blood, and Mars get their
normal strength. Saturn and Rahu should be propitiated.
If Mars as lord of Ascendant, or otherwise, be posited in the
6th, 8th or 12th and be under the influence of malefics
without a benefic influence, the native suffers from marasmus
( ~r zT+r ). In this situation Mars should be strengthened by
the native wearing a red coral in a silver ring. The malefics
afflicting Mars should be propitiated.
If Mars be connected with the Ascendant, its lord, the 4th,
its lord and Moon by conjuction or aspect, the native will
become inclined towards violence and can commit even a
murder. Such Mars should not be strengthened but
propitiated.
If Mars as lord of Ascendant be posited in the 4th in his
sign of debiliation (Cancer), he can cause diseases of the
chest. The native should be advised to wear red coral in a
silver ring to strengthen Mars and Moon so that there may
be no loss of longevity, health and wealth.
When the 7th house is afflicted by Mars and the lord of the
7th and its karaka (Venus for males and Jupiter for females)
also fall under his evil influence, the propitiation of Mars is
very necessary by offering prayers to him and his deity,
reciting appropriate mantras in the prescribed manner,
fasting on Tuesdays and giving in charity things connected
with Mars. In such cases Mars should never be strengthened
and natives of such nativities should never wear a red coral.
On the other hand the lord of the 7th and Karaka should he
strengthened. The native should wear a ring of the appropriate
gem for this purpose. The ring should be of gold or silver, will
depend on the disposition of Sun. If the Sun afflicts the 7th,
its lord or its karaka, the gold ring will not be suitable because
gold will strengthen the Sun also. The silver ring will be quite
appropriate. If, However, the strengthening of Sun does not in
any way harm the 7th, its lord and karaka, there will be no
harm in wearing a gold ring if that is prescribed for a
particular gem.
If Mars and Ketu and the lord of the sign occupied by them
cast their evil influence on the 8th or the lord of the 8th, the
native is likely to the in an accident. In this context, it should
also be kept in mind that the lords of the 6th and 11th also
cause hurt. Their influence on the 8th, and its lord, causes
fatal accidents. When the evil influence of Mars and Ketu falls
on the Ascendant, lord of Ascendant, 8th, and lord of the 8th,
and there is no benefic influence on them, the death will
definitely be caused in an accident. In such a case no remedial
measures can prove helpful. If evil influence is by only one or
two, the native can be protected by propitiation of Mars.
However, red coral should never be worn in such situations.
If the lord of the Ascendant and the lord of 11th or the lord
of the 11th and the lord of the 9th are posited together in a
nativity and they are aspected by Saturn, Rahu etc., these
wealth giving combinations will be nullified on account of the
evil influence of malefics. In such a situation the correct thing
to do will be to strengthen the planets froming the
combinations by the native wearing the gems connected with
such planets, and to propitiate the malefic planets afflicting
them.
Note : We find it necessary to point out at this stage that
red coral for strengthening Mars when necessary, should
normally be worn in a ring of gold mixed with copper, or of
only gold or copper. It should be worn in a silver ring only in
the following circumstances :
(a) If in any nativity Sun afflicts Mars, the gold or copper
ring with red coral will also strengthen the Sun. Therefore,
red coral should be worn in a silver ring.
(b) In a nativity where it is necessary to strengthen both
Moon and Mars silver will strengthen Moon and red coral will
strengthen Mars.
MERCURY
Mercury is a significator of brain and its power. If Mercury
is lord of the Ascendant, he becomes a full represntative of
the brain. Therefore, his affliction causes many kinds of brain
troubles. If Mercury, as lord of the Ascendant, falls under the
evil influence of Mars and Ketu, there is possibility of serious
head injuries. In such a situation, Mercury should be
strengthened from childhood of the native and Mars and Ketu
should be propitiated. If Mercury in the Ascendant in his own
sign falls under the evil influence of Saturn and Rahu, the
native suffers from headache etc., form his very childhood. If
at the same time Moon and lord of the 4th be weak, the
native may suffer from lunacy or retardation. In such a
situation Mercury should be strengthened by the native
wearing a silver ring set with emerald and Saturn and Rahu
should be propitiated.
If the 4th house be in the sign Virgo, its lord Mercury, lord
of 9th Saturn and, Sun be under the evil influence of Mars
and Ketu or Mars and Rahu (by aspect or conjunction), the
native's father may have permature death. The reason is that
4th house being 8th to 9th is the house of longevity for father
and the lord of 9th and Sun will represent father. In such a
situation the native should be advised to wear together or
separately both blue sapphire and emerald in a silver ring and
to propitiate the concened malefic planets in the prescribed
manner.
If the lord of the 7th and Venus in any birth chart, be under
the evil influence of Saturn, Rahu or Mercury (all sexless
planets) or the lords of signs occupied by them and there be
no other influence on him, the native becomes a eunuch
(sexless). There is no remedy for it.
Venus
In a man's horoscope Venus is significator for his wife. If
Venus be afflicted alongwith the 7th and its lord, the native
is likely to remain unmarried. If there is benefic influence on
them alongwith evil influence of Sun, Saturn or Rahu, he may
get married but the marriage is likely to end in separation or
divorce.
SATURN
For the Aquarius Ascendant Saturn is fully representative
of the legs. If Saturn is afflicted by Mars, Rahu etc., the native
suffers from various kind of diseases in the legs. Being lord
of the Ascendant, the afflicted Saturn will also adversely affect
the longevity of the native and he will face obstacles in all his
ventures. The native should, therefore, wear a blue sapphire
in a steel or iron ring to strengthen Saturn. He should also
propitiate the planets afflicting Saturn.

Actually Rudraksha is the dried fruit of the Rudraksha tree.
Such trees are generally found in Java, Sumatra, Himalayan
region, Nepal, Bhutan, Sikkim and Assam. Small beads come
from Java and those bigger in size from other places
mentioned above. Some say that red coloured and mixed
coloured Rudraksha are also in existence but they are rarely
seen. It is believed that white Rudraksha belongs to Brahmin
class, Red to Kshatriyaclass, mixed coloured to Vaishyaclass
and the black to Shudra-class.
Actually we have not seen any Rudraksha of these colours.

have a child or whose children do not survive after birth. The

We give below a very effective remedial measure called
'Shari Pooja' to ward off the bad influence of Saturn.
Find out a horse shoe fallen on the road from the foot of
some horse and bring it home. Clean the horse-shoe
thoroughly. After wiping it dry, put it in an iron or steel vessel
and keep the vessel in the place of worship in your house.
After taking bath every morning apply sandal paste, offer
flowers and burn incense near the vessel. Then put one spoon
of mustard oil or til oil on the horse shoe. Initially start this
pooja on a Saturday. After offering oil etc., do a japes of the

performed every day as long as the evil influence continues
or always if necessary. On every Saturday yQu should put
