Tutoring Time: 1 hours

Math Objectives (for St. Agnes student):

Student will be able to work with equal groups of objects to gain foundations for multiplication
Student will be able to arrange a number of objects in rectangular arrays as columns and rows
Student will be able to represent rectangular arrays as repeated addition and multiplication
equations

Describe the activity in each section and indicate high/low technology being used for each part of the activity:

Warm-up (2 min) The student will warm-up with a Multiplication Array Matching Game.
The teacher will scatter a series of multiplication equations and
rectangular arrays for the student to match correctly.

Pre-Test (5 min) The student will complete a flashcards activity on Quizlet, which matches
rectangular arrays with the corresponding repeated addition and
multiplication equations. This pre-test will measure the students prior
knowledge of rectangular arrays and the foundations of multiplication
aligned with repeated addition. This pre-test will also prepare the student
for the post-test because it involves the same rectangular arrays and
equations as displayed on the flashcards.

Review of Prior After the student completes the flashcards activity on Quizlet, the teachers
Knowledge (3 min) and student will review the rectangular arrays and their corresponding
repeated addition and multiplication equations, in order to review the
students prior knowledge of rectangular arrays and foundational
understanding of multiplication.
Primary skills and The teachers will provide the student with the game of Connect Four.
support) (15 min) Using the Connect Four chips, the student will create rectangular arrays
based on the repeated addition and multiplication equations given by the
I do teacher. The student will also be asked to represent the rectangular array,
We do provided by the teacher, as repeated addition and multiplication
You do equations. The student and teachers will be using a mini whiteboard to
Observable record the repeated addition and multiplication equations made from the
Behavioral Connect Four chips.
Assessment

Post-Test (5 min) The student will complete a quiz on Quizlet, matching rectangular arrays
with the corresponding repeated addition and multiplication equations.
This post-test will measure any improvement or consistency of the
students understanding of rectangular arrays and the foundations of
multiplication aligned with repeated addition.

Wrap-Up Review & Take The student will be asked to complete an Array Match Up! worksheet as
Home Task (2 min) his take home test. The student will first solve one-digit by one-digit
multiplication equations. Then, the student will match the multiplication
equation with the corresponding letter of the rectangular array.
