Intro

Cells are important because they are the basic unit of structure for all living things. Every living thing
is composed of cells. Each cell is classified its own job and together they make a tissue, such as,
muscle, skin and bone tissue. Furthermore, the cells that make the tissue then make an organ
(heart) and the ones that makes an organ makes an organ system (circulatory system)and the ones
that make an organ system make an organism (human body) and that is how we are made. Also it is
a scientific fact that its bad cells that cause cancer and other diseases so if we learn about them we
might be able to defeat or find a vaccination for cancer.

Description and explanation

Cell wall- It is a tough, flexible wall that sometimes has rigid layers, it performs essential functions
like structural support and protection form apposing attackers. It is found in cells of plants, bacteria,
fungi, and algae. Animals do not have cell walls.

Vacuole-They are storage bubbles found in a plant cell they store food (sap) and nutrients to help
the cell survive. They can even store waste products so that the rest of the body is safe from
contamination

Cell membrane-A cell membrane is a thin line which keeps the cell intact and controls what get
in and out of the cell, this is known as diffusion. Diffusion is a movement from an area of high
concentration to an area of low concentration.

Chloroplast-Chloroplast, which can only be found in plants, is the food producers for the cell.
Chloroplast works by absorbing the energy of the sun to make sugars; it also produces chlorophyll
that help gives the plant its green colour. This is called chlorophyll pigments however the action is
called photosynthesis

Nucleus-The nucleus is the brain of the cell which controls the body and its movements the cell
contains chromosomes and DNA which contains information

Cytoplasm-Lots of thick membrane made from protein and fats that destroys chemicals and
stores food

Mitochondria-They are known as the powerhouse of the cell. They are organelles that act like
the digestive system which take in nutrients, break them down, and create energy for the cell.

Tonoplast membrane- The tonoplast membrane is a membrane that surrounds the vacuole, it
is found in plants and fungi.

Why the shape matters

Their cylindrical shape, allows maximum absorption of light for the chloroplasts this helps to make
more food so that the cell has energy and can work hard and do its job, it also absorb a lot of water
and minerals because of this it helps them to get energy to make more food so the plant can grow.
