Why sustainability in apartments?

APARTMENT MEANING:

An apartment (American English), flat (British English) or unit (Australian English)

is a self-contained housing unit (a type of residential real estate) that occupies
only part of a building, correctly, on a single level without a stair. Such a building
may be called an apartment.
Approximately 75% of local residents live in apartment buildings.
These vertical villages account for 38% of the local area's water use,
10% of its greenhouse gas emissions and 14% of its waste.

Residential apartment buildings contribute 10% of the citys

greenhouse gas emissions, consume more than a third of its water and
generate 14% of total waste. By 2030, 80% of our residents will live in
apartments and 90% of new homes will be in high rise apartment
buildings.

OBJECTIVE:
The main objectives of sustainable design study is to reduce, or
completely avoid, depletion of critical resources like energy, water,
and raw materials; prevent environmental degradation caused by
facilities and infrastructure throughout their life cycle; and create built
environments that are liveable, comfortable, safe, and productive.

Buildings use resources (energy, water, raw materials, and etc.),

generate waste (occupant, construction and demolition), and emit
potentially harmful atmospheric emissions so the main objective is to
create building design which is accessible, secure, healthy, and
productive while minimizing any negative impacts on society, it should
result in net-positive benefits to all the areas.

LITERATURE CASE STUDIES:

1) BIGs Stunning Green-Roofed 8 Tallest Eco-Village which fuses
modern living with the delicate beauty of Denmark's landscape.

2) The Interlace-Singapore, The design capitalizes on the generous

roof area by converting them into roof gardens, thereby
minimizing the loss of plantations on the ground. The complex
consists of landscaped sky terraces and cascading balconies that
are designed after careful analysis of the local environment. The
use of passive solar techniques and natural lighting and
ventilation systems reduces the amount of energy required to
power the complex.
