Activity 1 Warm-up activity 3 mins
S-T For warmup Have students give at least one unique compliment of their own to either of us. Whole class 5 mins for discussion Afterwards, inquire then discuss about topics relating to when, why, and how compliments are given. Situations like when you have background for a person vs. not knowing them. Complimenting someone in a business/sale, in an intimate relationship, or just making a neutral compliment Neutral - avoiding words some may find offensive Lastly, ask then discuss WHY compliments are given. See what students come up with first Wanting something, make someone else happy, obligation, fishing for compliments, taking focus off yourself, etc.
Activity 2 Have students make a list of positive S-S 5 mins for
adjectives or compliments (groups of 2-3) activity Give them topics every minute or so to discuss amongst themselves: Appearance, food, personality, etc. Whole class 2 mins Discuss examples as a class and discussion see if their examples are appropriate. If they dont have any, ask then discuss what kinds of words may not be the best choice to use. You look so thin! Have you gained weight? You look so plump. Ask: Have you ever received a
compliment that has made you feel uneasy or uncomfortable? Discuss about tone and more context of given compliments. Cat-calling vs. typical/appropriate compliments. Time + place You can give compliments to comfort someone, but maybe in a situation like loss of a loved one, one wouldnt approach the affected person with a your hair looks nice today probably.
Activity 3 Give a checklist of topics to find someone S-S 8 mins

Anticipated Problems & Suggested Solutions:
Students may be unable to think of compliments for one another. We can provide guidance by suggesting compliment categories such as clothing, appearance, etc. If our technology fails, we can model appropriate and inappropriate compliments for the class with a short improvised skit. If we find ourselves running over the allotted time, compliment activities can be shortened while still remaining effective. In the event that we struggle to fill the allotted time, contingency activities are listed below.
