Subject Area: Science

Grade Level: 6-7 Time Needed: 45 minutes

Teacher-created water-cycle video
EdPuzzle water cycle video with questions
3,2,1 online worksheet
Water cycle model-creation/ presentation rubric

Common Core Standards:

CCSS SL.6.2 Interpret information presented in diverse media and formats, (eg. Visually,
quantitatively, orally) and explain how it contributes to a topic, text, or issue under study.

MS-ESS2-4. Develop a model to describe the cycling of water through Earths systems driven
by energy from the Sun and the force of gravity.

Learning Objectives:

Students will be able to create and explain their model of how the water cycle works using
precise language and domain-specific vocabulary.

Home Learning Assignment:

Students will watch a brief, teacher-created video explaining the processes

behind the water cycle and its multiple steps.

Students will then be directed to watch an EdPuzzle video reinforcing the

teachers explanation using visuals, diagrams, and flowcharts.

Home Reflection Assignment:

Students will complete a 3, 2, 1 assignment where they will write down 3

things they learned from the videos, 2 things they still have questions about,
and 1 thing they have an opinion about. The teacher will use it to inform
his/her instruction and create discussion at the beginning of class. This online
worksheet will be submitted through an online dropbox.
In- Class Differentiated Activities:
At the beginning of class, all of the 3,2,1 responses will be displayed for
students to read and process independently. The teacher will then discuss
commonalities for each section of the 3, 2, 1 and facilitate discussion among
students.
The teacher will then explain the water cycle model project to students and
pass out the rubric. Students will be encouraged to either draw, build, or
compose a collage of pictures to represent the water cycle and all of its
components (adhering to rubrics guidelines).
During the last 10 minutes of class, students will briefly present their water-
cycle models and the teacher will provide immediate feedback based on the
rubrics criteria.

Assessment:
Students will orally present their water cycle model to the class using domain-
specific vocabulary. The teacher will grade each students model and
presentation based on the rubrics guidelines.
