Philosophy of Multicultural Education

MULTICULTURAL EDU. 2

Multicultural education is the ability to accept and respect every different history,

language, knowledge, beliefs, status, and perspectives of each individuals cultural backgrounds.

For teachers, multicultural education is an important topic to be well informed and

knowledgeable on. It is important for a teacher to be educated on the topic, in order to encourage

each child to grow to their fullest potential, as they feel accepted and valued no matter their

differences.

Teachers need to be education and knowledgeable of Multicultural Education. Educated

and skilled teachers will be able to provide a more effective learning environment for students

(Bonenfant .2013. p.2). In addition, teachers will be able to provide high quality and enriched

curriculums which allow each student to feel valued and respected. When teachers show and

demonstrate that every child is accepted in their classroom, children are empowered to learn.

If teachers are able to demonstrate and provide an environment where children feel safe

and secure, students will be able to learn and accept others of different culture, ethnicity, status,

abilities, and beliefs. Teachers need to put their bias out of education, and be able to provide a

school setting where children are accepted and have a cultural consciousness of themselves and

of others.

Overall, my philosophy of multicultural education is to provide students with the

freedom, and equality in a school setting. In addition, for students to grow and learn to their

fullest potential in a setting where they feel accepted, valued and respected based on their own

and unique culture. Most importantly, as students, they will be able to provide their peers and

staff the same respect and acceptance that multicultural education is intended to educate.
