Guernsey Style Baby Blanket- By Kate McDaid

A beautiful, unisex baby blanket in Guernsey, or Gansey, patterns. This classic

blanket knits up fast in a bulky weight yarn, and the knit/purl pattern provides
great texture. The yarn is also machine washable to make things easier for new
moms.

Difficulty Level: Easy

Size: 24 x 25
Yarn: 4 skeins of Berroco Vintage Chunky in Oats (136yrds/ 125m per ball), or any
other Bulky weight yarn that obtains gauge.
Needles: US 8, 5mm needles.
Gauge: 17 sts and 28.5 rows per 4 inches (10cm)
Use needle size needed to obtain correct gauge.

Pattern
Special Pattern Notes: The first and last 2 stitches of the blanket are done in garter
stitch to be worked on all rows (except the first and last 4 rows). The 3rd stitch and
3rd last stitch are a Stockinette stitch border to be worked on all rows (except the
first and last 4 rows.) So it looks like this for all but the first and last 4 rows:
(RS) k3, work chart 12 times, k3.
(WS) k2, p1, work chart 12 times, p1, k3)

Cast on 102 sts using Long Tail Cast on. Work 4 rows in garter stitch.
**Work Diamond Chart #1 12 times across the blanket, remembering the Special
Pattern Notes. Work Diamond Chart #1 for the full 16 rows.
*Between Chart Rows- (Remember Special Pattern Notes) Purl 1 row, Knit 2 rows,
Purl 2 rows, Knit 1 row, always working the first and last 3 stitches in pattern.*
Work Diamond Chart #2 12 times across the blanket, remembering the Special
Pattern Notes. Work Diamond Chart #2 for the full 16 rows.
*Between Chart Rows*
Work Diamond Chart #3 12 times across the blanket, remembering the Special
Pattern Notes. Work Diamond Chart #3 for the full 16 rows.
*Between Chart Rows*
Work Diamond Chart #4 12 times across the blanket, remembering the Special
Pattern Notes. Work Diamond Chart #4 for the full 16 row. **
*Between Chart Rows*
Repeat from ** to ** (this is one more of each Diamond Chart with the Between
Chart Rows.) Stop when you are done Diamond Chart #4 for the second time.
Work the last 4 rows in garter stitch, NOT doing the Special Pattern Notes.
Cast off loosely. Weave in ends. Block in warm water, lay flat to dry.
