Titanic (1997 film)

Titanic is a 1997 American epic romantic disaster film directed, written, co-produced, and co-edited by
James Cameron. A fictionalized account of the sinking of the RMS Titanic, it stars Leonardo DiCaprio
(Jack Dawson) and Kate Winslet (Rose DeWitt Bukater) as members of different social classes who fall
in love aboard the ship during its ill-fated maiden voyage.

The film is about the 1912 tragedy that killed over 1,500 people. A young man named Jack Dawson
wins a poker game a ticket to go to America by ship Titanic, class III. Aboard, he meets Rose DeWitt
Bukater, traveling first class, and fall in love for her.
Despite the differences in social class, her feeling is shared by the young. When the ship is sinking
hitting an iceberg, many people die, and they try to stand in ice water. At the end of the film, the young
man died of hypothermia, but Rose escapes and is rescued by a lifeboat that had returned to search for
survivors. The end is tragic.

The Titanic was the last unsikable ship ever to set sail.Built in 1912 for the British White Star Line,
she was a colosal ship for many times-882 feet long, 46,328 tons, and capable of doing 25 knots an
hour. Her sixteen hermetic compartments, her builders claimed, guaranteed that nothing could sink her.

April 10, 1912, was a splendid occasion as the Titanic began her initial voyage from England to New
York with 2,207 people aboard.

On April 14, 1912 at 11:40 p.m., Titanic crashed an iceberg and at 2:30 in the morning April 15, the
ship sank in the Atlantic Ocean. Following the sinking, died 1,514 of the 2,228 passengers on board.
This was one of the greatest maritime disasters in peacetime in history and stories untold of Titanic still
resurface today, 103 years after the sinking and 18 years after the launch of the famous movie Titanic,
directed by James Cameron.

At 11:40 on April 14, many of the sleeping passengers were awakened by a small shock. The ship had
struck an iceberg, incurred a 300-foot cut in her side, and five compartments were flooded.
Unsinkable, however, meant the ship could float if two, not five, compartments were inundated.

Ten miles away from the Titanic was another ship, the Californian, which had stopped because of ice
fields and which had sended six explicit warnings to nearby ships. Unfortunately, the Titanics wireless,
a new invention on shipboard, was being employed for joking messages to and from the passengers.
The tired wireless operator had worked long hours and impatiently told the Californians operator to
shut up and stop warnings.

By 12:05 A.M. officers and crew fully comprehended that something was seriously wrong. Lifeboats
were uncovered, and passengers and crew were counted to the boat deck. Ten minutes later a SOS
signal for help sent out to summon help was received by ships too distant to be immediate help.

Secure in the knowledge that their ship was unsinkable , the White Star Line had provided enough
lifeboat space for only 1,178 people. There were sixteen wooden lifeboats space on board for 2,207
people.

Women and children were first in the lifeboats.

At 12:45 the Californian crew watched the Titanics rockets overhaed and regarded them as strange.
The first boat was being lowered into the icy sea at the same moment the Titanic continued to slip
downwards at the bow.

Three ships had received an SOS, the first time that signal had ever been used, and they were confused.
All had been advised that the Titanic was sinking. The Carpathia was fifty-eight miles away. The
Californian watched last rocket go off at 1:40.

At 2:05 tha last boat was lowered as the band was playing an Episcopal hymn,Autumn, notAbide
with Me, as is usually believed.

With the ship standing at a 90 degrees angle, perpendicular in the water, at 2:10 the last SOS was sent
out. At 2:20 A.M. on April15, 1912, the Titanic go down.

The crew of the Californian believed that the disappearing lights indicated the ship was leaving the
area.

At 4:10 the Carpathia was the first ship to reach the scene. The Californian arrived at 5:40, too late to
rescue any survivors.

From eighteen boats 705 people were rescued.
