Reflection

Co-Teaching Lesson Plans Assignment

Purpose:

The purpose of this assignment was to develop lesson plans for two of the case studies provided

that used two different co-teaching models. With this assignment I had to indicate what co-

teaching model I used with a specific explanation as to why I chose that model and how the

lesson integrated this model. I also needed to describe the roles of each teacher including what

each teachers role would be for the various components of the lesson, and how each teacher

would be involved in the assessment of the lesson.

How you addressed the assignment requirements (if relevant)

This was my first introduction to UDL, so I dont believe I quite understood the art of

differentiating lesson plans for learner variations. I did provide multiple avenues for variation in

the original lesson plan to accommodate various learner needs. I chose two case studies that I

was most familiar with to build this lesson plan around. I also relied on my previous co-teaching

experiences to allow for distinct roles and input for both teachers. From that point I relied on

lesson plans that had already been created and basically customized them, as I would expect to

do in the classroom, for this assignment.

What you learned from this assignment and its contribution to your development as a special

educator.

The first thing that I think of when I look back on this lesson is the feedback provided, and how

useful it is in being able to fully reflect on how far I have come since my first masters course. I

remember thinking that I needed to align lesson plans according to state standards and then

work my way out from there. This lesson in particular showed me that I need to begin my focus

on what is essential for everyone to learn from this lesson.

The second thing I need to focus on how to provide variation for all learners. Standards focus on

what a typical, non-struggling learner should walk away knowing. The reality is that leaves out

an entire population of learners that need us to help guide them in a more intentional way.

This assignment was a great example of how to incorporate collaboration within a lesson plan.

I have highlighted portions of the feedback provided that helped me reflect on this assignment,

from what I need to focus on moving forward, to what I did well on the assignment as I look

back.
