DESIGN FOR INSTRUCTION

MDD Standards 2- 3

You will need to plan and deliver two lessons

1. Lesson 1 Topic:

1.2 Lesson 1 Learning Goals:

At the end of the lesson students will be able to report what their classmates do on
their weekend through speaking and writing.
Using Present simple - Simple past - Verbs

1.2.1 Alignment of Learning Goals to School and National

Curriculum:

The aim of the first lesson plan is aligned with the National Chilean curriculum
related to the first unit My first job, inasmuch as in the fundamental objectives
express the following aspects:

- Identifying information said by others.

- Use indirect speech structure in order to report what others
said like he said he would go to the shop.

In relation to the National Curriculum, students are going to be working with

Programas de Estudio during all the years they stay in this school.
For establish a base of this topic and to open their minds to other types of tenses, I
taught them Reported Speech in Present Simple tense with the purpose of approach
their previous knowledge and to expand some knowledge about the other types of
sentences that they are going to focus later.

1.2.2 Justification:
Reported Speech is a topic which results incredible important in terms of
communicate effectively. Even more when they need to try English communication
between their peers and form relationships with others saying the things that their
classmates said.

1.3 Analysis of Pre-Assessment Data:

The teacher communicated me that students had a previous knowledge in terms of

verbs in simple past and they are able to produce writing tasks once the content has
been given and having a model to follow; therefore, as they already knew a bit about
the topic, they were able to recognize the structures presented in the PPT
presentation and followed the whole class without problems.

1.4 Learning Resources:

Data.

Interactive board.

PPT presentation.

White board.

Worksheets.

Kraft paper.

Pencils

Whiteboard markers

Glue

Notebooks

1.5 Assessments.
During this particular class, I will be checking two skills Speaking and Writing. The
Speaking part will be examined through checking the pronunciation of new
vocabulary learnt. On Writing part, will be assessed through peer-cheeking, because
they will have to create some sentences in Present Simple Tense and exchange
them with their classmates who are going to transform this Present simple sentences
into Reported Speech. Then the teacher is going to check the task of the worksheet
delivered to the students.

1.6 Motivation for learning: Describe how you will motivate student learning at
the beginning of the lesson. Consider what you will say and what you will do
to motivate student learning
At first, in order to catch students attention and promote their motivation, I will
start the class with a warm up activity, which in my opinion, definitely help
teachers in order to motivate students. In my case, I carry out a competition
between them related to the topic of JOBS.

1.7 Activities: Include descriptions of the activities you plan to use in the lesson.
Your activities should be designed to support your learning goals and should be
clearly described and carefully sequenced. Actively engaging students in learning
also gives you an opportunity to assess their understanding. Make sure you take
advantage of this opportunity by coordinating your activities with your assessment
plan.

a. What will students do? (For how long? Alone or in groups? Using what
resources?, etc)

Warm up activity: Competition (ten minutes)

The first activity I made with my students, was a little competition related to
vocabulary they should know about Jobs.
Teacher is going to divide the whiteboard in two, with the titles GROUP A and
GROUP B. Then, the teacher will deliver papers with a set of words between both
groups. Ss had a Captain which told them how to organize and memorize the words.
After five minutes, students will run to the whiteboard with the markers and write the
words that they remember about the topic, of course, spelling them correctly to
consider them as correct.

Presentation stage (ten minutes)

The first thing I will do, is to present students the aim of the class.
The teacher is going to present a PowerPoint presentation in which explains what is
reported speech and how it is used from the past tense to the present simple tense.
In the ppt, will be some images exemplifying actions related to Reported Speech.
Teacher will model these examples with the help of the mentor teacher and the
students.

Practice (five minutes)

Students are going to report orally what their classmates said.

Production (ten minutes)

Students are going to write five sentences in simple present about what they do on
their weekend. Then, they have to exchange notebooks between them and report
through writing what their classmates wrote. They will have around ten minutes to
complete this task.
Later, the teacher is going to deliver some worksheets with fifteen sentences in
Simple Present and Ss have to report them in Past simple. When they finish the
worksheet, they will paste it on their notebooks and the teacher is going to review the
sentences and the previous reported activity.

What will you do to support students engagement with that activity?

In order to keep my students engaged with the task, I am going to be constantly

monitoring the class, to check their progress and providing them the help they might
need, so as to achieve the goal of the class.
