6.1 Continuous Learning

Candidates demonstrate continual growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging
technologies and apply the knowledge and skills to improve personal productivity and
professional practice.

Reflection

ISTEs Essential Conditions remind us that all educators need ongoing training to keep up to
date with the rapid changes in educational technology (ISTE, 2012). The artifact I chose for this
standard is the 2017 Georgia STEM Forum, which I am already registered to attend. I have also
attended this same event the past three years. By attending this conference, I am expected to
reflect daily with the other attendees from my district, as well as redeliver relevant information
back to the faculty at my school.

Standard 6.1, Continuous Learning establishes the expectations for demonstrating continual
growth in knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies and apply the
knowledge and skills to improve personal productivity and professional practice. My yearly
attendance to the Georgia STEM Forum showcase my ability to seek out continuous growth in
my knowledge and skills of current and emerging technologies, specifically in relation to
integrated content. By attending this conference, I acquired new knowledge and skills that will
help me grow as a technology facilitator. I was able to learn a few new technologies that could
be implemented into STEM classrooms at my school. One of the most valuable sessions I
attended at the 2016 conference was a session called Blended STEM. During this session I
learned how elementary teachers were using online learning management systems to create and
deliver STEM content to their students. This proved to make a huge impact on the STEM
teachers at my school when I shared the information with them. Not only did attending these
conferences improve my professional practice by allowing me to use more technology in the
STEM classroom, but I was also given the opportunity to share how I have applied the
knowledge and skills to improve personal productivity and professional practice. When I
was asked to re-deliver this new knowledge to my faculty, I was able to be much more
personally productive by utilizing my new blended learning knowledge to create a flipped
faculty meeting to share the content. This idea was new to my teachers, but seemed to go over
really well, since the time spent in the faculty meeting was focused on creating their own courses
instead of sitting and listening to me share what I had learned (which they listened to during the
flipped portion prior to the meeting).

By attending the conference, I was able to grow as a technology facilitator by continuously

learning. I acquired and implemented new skills that I can use to effectively help other teachers
integrated technology into their practice. In the future, I would like to focus more on the
technology strand at the STEM Forum. I tried to balance my time between the 4 strands of math,
science, engineering, and technology. I have noticed that the technology strand tends to offer
more sessions of relevance to multiple content areas, which in turn would help me have an
impact on more than just my STEM teachers at the time of redelivery.

My attendance to these conferences definitely impacted student learning and faculty

development. By attending these conferences, I learned about new technology that can be
incorporated into any classroom at my school. By presenting my new knowledge to my
colleagues, I was able to provide teachers with additional resources for their technology toolkit.
To assess the impact this has had on our school, formative and summative assessments can be
used to measure student learning, teacher feedback surveys can measure faculty by-in and
development, and usage data can be pulled from our schools online learning management
system.
