NOTES:
Grains - Servings/Slices
The CACFP meal pattern requires that children ages 1-5 be served a minimum 1/2 slice/serving and children ages 6-12 be served a
minimum 1 slice/serving. However, what is considered a "serving" or "slice" differs among grain/bread items based on average grain
content. Additionally, serving information provided on a product's Nutrition Facts Label does not directly relate to a CACFP "serving."
Therefore, once you have used this workbook to determine the number of servings/slices required, refer to the GRAINS/BREADS CHART
(Food Buying Guide: Exhibit A or chart provided on the green Grains Breads Chart tab of this workbook), and locate the "Group" that
contains the type of food you are serving. Read the amount of food required (grams or ounces), per 1 serving or 1/2 serving for that group
and use this information along with the food's nutrition facts label to help you determine how much product to purchase and/or serve to
each participant.

Milk
Milk calculations for 1 year olds are separate from 2 year olds because 1 year olds can only be served whole milk; while 2 year olds must be
served 1% or skim. The 'Amounts Required' column indicates how much total whole milk you need to prepare for 1 year olds and how
much total 1%/skim milk you need to prepare for 2 year olds. The 'Total Cups Needed' for milk includes only 1%/skim milk needed for
participants age 2 and older.
Adults
When staff are served meals, the number of adult meals must be included in the calculations so the required minimum amounts of food
are prepared and served to all children and adults. Your agency can decide on the serving size to be used when calculating adult meals
based on the amount of food adults will eat. These worksheets are prepopulated with the 3-5 year old serving sizes; however, these cells
can be edited to change serving sizes to that of 1-2 year olds or 6-12 year olds.

food required (grams or ounces) per age group (1-5 or 6-18 year olds) and refer to Nutrition Facts Label for
purchased products or weigh the final product if making from scratch to determine the serving size.

This worksheet determines whether purchased grains/breads (such as crackers, muffins, cookies and grain-based desserts) in groups A-G of Serving Sizes for Grains/Breads in
