Week # 2 Moderation in SPSS

For this week 2 application 1 we are going to be using the data set named

HSLongStudy(student). sav file. This week assignment will make emphasis to multiple linear

regression model. Green and Salkind (2015) stated that Multiple Linear regression can be used

to analyze data from experimental or non-experimental design when two or more independent

variables take place. For the data set provided the research question will be:

Do sex and socio-economic status have an influence on the hours spent on math

homework/studying in typical school week?

The data name that are going to be used are: Hours spent on math homework/studying in

typical school week (S2MHOMEWRK) as the dependent variable and T1 Socio-economic status

composite (X1SES) and T1 Student's sex (X1SEX) as independent variables. A multiple

regression was run to evaluate the S2MHOMEWRK from gender and social economical status.

These variables statistically significantly predicted S2MHOMEWRK, F(2, 16435) = 459.78, p <

.0005, R2 = .053. All the variables added statistically significantly to the prediction, p < .05

establishing that multiple regression model is a good fit for the data.
