Position number: 0040358 The University of Melbourne
Position Summary
You will work with Professor Kenneth Crozier on the experimental demonstration of long
wavelength infrared photodetectors based on nanoscale optical antennas and novel materials,
including two dimensional semiconductors. You will design and simulate these devices,
experimentally realize them by nanofabrication, and develop novel methods to characterize
them optically and electrically.
You will conduct independent research, leading to the publication of research in journals and at
conferences. You will be located in the Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering in
the Melbourne School of Engineering and will be expected to be an active member of the
Department, collaborating with other researchers. You may undertake research supervision
directly related to your area of research, as required.
The University plans seeks to increase the diversity of the workforce and the representation of
women in areas they have been traditionally under-represented. Consistent with this, the School
is seeking to increase the representation of women in the academic workforce across
engineering disciplines. Under a Special Measure, under Section 12 (1) of the Equal
Opportunity Act 2010 (Vic) the School is seeking to lift the representation of women from 20% in
2014 to at least 25% over the next 5 years, and strongly encourages applications from suitably
qualified female candidates.

The Department of Electrical and Electronic Engineering was established in 1947, as part
of the Melbourne School of Engineering; an establishment that has been offering degrees
since 1889. Today the department is widely recognised for its excellence in teaching and
for providing an outstanding research environment for staff and postgraduate students.
The Departments three key discipline areas of research and training are:

The discipline groups contribute to various fundamental and themed research activities,
which often span the three EEE disciplines, the Melbourne School of Engineering
strategic research areas, and beyond. These activities are often pursued through a
number of research centres and laboratories, including the following:
