(4) Measuring and Data

(5) Standard 1.MD.1 Order three objects by length; compare the lengths of two
objects indirectly by using a third object.

(6) The objective is for students to learn the differences of measuring data of all
lengths ie; pencils, crayons, taller, shorter.

(7) Materials needed would be ruler and objects to measure ie; pencils, crayons,
scissors, paper, books.

(8) To begin you will need to give the students the math handout. It is a handout
with different math problems of objects of different size that students will need to
determine what object is bigger/smaller than the other one. Prior to completing
handout class will go over with teacher then in small groups and they will discuss
with teacher and do examples of measuring the marker, pencil and a book to see
that all objects are a different size. Once they have asked their questions and have
caught on to the concept of the lesson put them into small groups up to four
students each and have them work on measuring different things around the class
to determine if it is bigger/smaller. Once they have worked on that for 10-15
minutes have them get back into their seats and then ask them questions or let them
ask any last minute question that they may have then after that have them work on
the handout alone.

(9) I will determine their grade on this by their in class activity as well as what they
score on the handout they will complete on their own with no help.
