Integrated Leadership Camp

The weekend of 27-29th July this year will forever be etched in the minds of the 50
participants who attended the Integrated Leadership Camp organised by the Co-curricular
Unit of SMK Setia. The two-day two night camp, held at Perimbun Resort, Cheras, some 20
miles away from the city centre, was a compulsory activity for all presidents and secretaries of
the various clubs in school. The objectives of the camp were to instil leadership qualities and
improve teamwork among participants. Although the students were accompanied by several
teachers, all activities were conducted by youth leaders from a local university. Most of the
students, who are in Form Four this year, were very excited throughout the 45-minute journey
to the campsite.

Upon arrival, they were immediately whisked off to the seminar room where they were given
a briefing on the rules and regulations at the campsite by the facilitators. Then, they were put
into groups of five and asked to erect their own tents. Luckily for my group, we had the
President of the Scouts Club with us. In no time, he had instructed us on how to put up the
tent. Unfortunately, some of the other groups were struggling with their tents and seeing
their dismal efforts some of us decided to help them. Apparently, this was the first test of our
teamwork skills and fortunately, many of us passed with flying colours. After dinner, we had a
group dynamics activity, where we had to come up with names, logos and jingles for our
groups. Well, with names like the Flying Potters and Forever Dumbledores, and jingles ranging
from pop rock to jazz, the students of SMK Setia proved that they are indeed a creative lot.

The second day of the camp started off with an early morning exercise session at 5.30am. The
two energetic facilitators, Tim and Ashraf, took us through a rigorous exercise routine. Many
of us who barely exercise knew what to expect over the next few days ? muscle cramps. After
the one-hour aerobic session, we jogged through Perimbun town, which was a pale shadow of
its daytime hustle and bustle.
The early morning exercise was invigorating and refreshing. We had enough time for a quick
shower and breakfast, before we took part in more group activities. These activities were
physically and mentally challenging. One of the activities was basic survival skills. We had to
start our own fires with only two matchsticks and cook lunch for the group members. Using
water from the slightly muddy stream nearby, we had to cook not only rice but also fish and
vegetables. As no soap was made available to us, we learnt to wash the cooking utensils using
ash. Later in the afternoon, we had activities like flying fox and abseiling. Through these
activities, we learnt to trust each other and to give moral support when it is most needed. The
highlight of the camp was a night hike in the surrounding jungle. The facilitators led us deep
into the jungle and made us sit all by ourselves. The half hour spent alone was aimed at
making us brave and resilient. Though many of us were initially hesitant and sceptical about
this activity, it was indeed an insightful experience.

On the final morning, we had a hearty breakfast, which was followed by a feedback session.
During this session, we were given the opportunity to voice our feelings and opinions
regarding the camp. Many of the participants gave constructive feedback on what the camp
had taught them. We learnt about the importance of teamwork, consideration, tolerance and
understanding. Most importantly, we learnt that good leadership is responsible leadership.

2) Your school recently organised a charity run. As the Secretary of the organising committee,
write a report for the Principal about the event.

To : Encik Abdullah Bakri,

Principal, SMK Bukit Tinggi

Title : Charity Run 2013

SMK Bukit Tinggi annual Charity Run for 2013 was held on 18th September. The event was
originally scheduled to start at 6.30 a.m. but the flag-off only took place at 7 a.m. due to the
rain. Like the past years, the run started and ended at the school field.

The purpose of this year's Charity Run is to raise funds for the local orphanage. Participants
were charged a RM15 registration fee that includes some mineral water and a t-shirt.

The entire route of the run was 10.5 kilometres. A total of 578 students throughout the school
took part in the event. Nur Amalina from Form 5B came out first, followed by Boon Keat from
5A, second and Ganesh Lingam from 4D, third. The winners were presented with medals and
hampers by the President of the Parent Teacher Association, Datuk Rahim Mahmud.

While the event was successfully completed, there were some incidents that occurred during
the run. Two participants lost their belongings. Both of them left their bags at the side of the
field despite being repeatedly reminded by the organisers not to do so. Participants were
advised to leave their belongings in the hall next to the field where there were students on
duty. Fortunately, they only lost small amounts of money and some snacks.

Apart from that, some participants also sustained minor injuries. This was due to the fact that
they did not do warm-up exercise before running. As a result, they suffered cramps halfway
through the run. They were immediately attended to by the medical team on standby and
recovered after a short rest.
From this year's event, it is clear that there are still room for improvement in the organisation
of this event. For example, more refreshment stands should be made available throughout
the course of the run. This will ensure that participants are well hydrated while running.
Besides, more volunteers should be brought in to control and direct traffic where the route
meets with the main street. This will ensure the safety of the participants as well as the safety
of road users passing by the area.

How Internet Affects Life
By:Noor Sahidah Samsudin

Nowadays, the use of Internet is increasing especially among adolescence or more

accurately, students. The Internet issue is discussed by the adults and parents. Most of them
are worried that the use of Internet is dangerous to their kids. Some others said that Internet
may bring benefits to their children especially to those who will be sitting for an examination.

On my opinion, Internet has both benefits and drawbacks. First of all, let me talk
about the benefits first. As we know, Internet is mostly used by students. By surfing internet,
students can visit various websites to assist their studies. The examples of popular websites
are tutortv.com , unicliq.com , and tutor.com.my. They can visit the websites and revise their
studies in more exciting way. Some of them are free. Students can visit it anytime they want.
The websites also provide useful notes and exercises. At the same time, students can get
additional information that they cannot find it in books. For instance, they can go to 'Google'
or 'Yahoo' search engines to search for more ideas to write an essay. In short, Internet
provides vast informations and knowledge which is very beneficial for the students.

Next, Internet also provides lots of social networks such as Facebook , Twitter,
MySpace and many other. Through these social networks, we can add more friends and make
new friends. We can also know friends from other country as these social networks are used
internationally. Other than adding friends, we can also strengthen our relationship with our
friends and family who are staying far away from us using Skype. We can see them in front of
our eyes eventhough they are actually far away from us through web camera.

Besides, Internet also offers entertainment. We canwatch videos of our favourite

artists by just one click through 'Youtube' website. We can also watch favourite movies
without paying. Plus, there are many artists born from 'Youtube'. So, fans can know more
about the artists from Youtube. Meanwhile, 4shared.com provides tracks, videos and files
that can be downloaded for free! Internet users can enjoy themselves at anytime watching
their favourite artists' performance for free.

Internet does not only offersbenefits for students but also to those who want to gain
more money. It also provides business opportunities. As for example, mudah.my gives a wide
room for surfers to promote anything they want to sell. Through this, people with no job can
gain money and support their lives by doing the online business.

However, as I said earlier, Internet also brings bad effects to its users. Firstly, it can
encourage cyber crimes. Besides that, students who spend too much time on Internet may
neglect their studies and do not finish their homework. This should be avoided as studies are
important especially to teenagers.
Although Internet can add more friends to our list, yet, it still can develop anti-social
behaviour. Not all of the users use Internet to make friends, someof them only play video
games or just sit down wayching videos on Youtube. They will only sit and ignore what is
happening around them. The worst thing is, they may not realise that there is an earthquake
out there! This anti-social behaviour may leads to health problems. The users will just stay at
home and sit in front of computer and this will cause them to be lazy couch potatoes. It will
also lead to obesity.

Next, most students will not attracted to surf knowledgeable websites, but wasting
their time on other non-beneficial things. Wasting timeon Internet can cause students to
neglect their studies. Not only time is wasted but also money. With the uses of more
electricity non-stop, utility bills may increase dramatically. We just not pay for the electric bills
but also internet monthly bills.

The conclusion is, everything has its own benefits and drawbacks. However, it depends on
how we are using it. If we spend more time using it for benefits, we will get positive effects.
But if we use it more to non-beneficial things, we will get negative effects. So, it depends on
you.
The Importance of Studying English
By: Noor Sahidah Samsudin
It is a big concerned for teenagers nowadays as they are unaware of the importance of
English language as they tend to ignore to learn the language. Students attitude towards the
language is also crucial to make sure that these teenagers can face the future world better by
learning English language as it is an international language.

Although the government has repeatedly told us of the importance of English, many
students are still not bothered about studying it seriously. There is also a campaign that still
on to make all the Malaysian becomes a better English learner, which is Enhance Proficiency
in Bahasa Malaysia, Strengthen the English. English is the most important and the most useful
language in the world today. There are many reasons why you should study the language
properly.

First and foremost, English will definitely help you a lot when you want to further
studies. Almost all books at university are written in English in all subjects. Plus, it is a
compulsory for any candidate to pass English with credit before entering any universities. So,
if you are poor in English, you will blow you chance for better education or worse, you are
going to have a big problem studying at university.

The second reason why you have to study English well is that it will help you to get a
job. When you go for a job interview, the interviewer will surely talk to you in English. The first
impression you should give in order to success and have the job is, to respond in English
fluently. Your chances of getting the job are very slim if you stutter while interviewing.

A good command in of English will also help you greatly in your job. If the company you
work is actively involved in international trade, you have to speak to prospective customers in
English. Miscommunication might occur if your English is bad. And this will put your company
at risk and you will likely be dismissed if this happen.

Good English will also help you a lot when you travel. Every country in the world studies
English. Even the roadside stall-holders in China speak fairly good English! At least some of the
people you meet on your travels in other countries can understand English. The language is
certainly practical when you are lost in your trip. Communication problem will not happen if
you can converse well in English. Inevitably, English is one of the languages used in any airport
in the world in making announcement. Knowing English well, therefore, make travelling
overseas easier.

Besides all these, entertainment is one of the major advantages you will experience if
you good in English. You will enjoy televisions best programmes. We must admit that many of
the best programmes are produced by the Americans and British companies. High self
confidence influenced by the programmes will indirect inculcate in yourself when you are
fluent in the language. Quality time is worthily spent if you understand and enjoy the
programmes.

Based from all the above elaboration, I hope that students will see the importance and
realise how importance the language is for their own future. Although it is a second language
in our country, it is now a main language all over the world.
Coping with Stress
by: Noor Sahidah Samsudin

The phenomenon of students under pressure is evident from the behaviour of those students
affected. I am a student and I know when my friends are under pressure. Some of those active
ones will suddenly turn passive. Some will become too quiet while some tend to get angry
fast.

There are many ways one can get rid of stress. Firstly, student, especially teenagers, must go
for regular exercise. A brisk walk in the park would release a lot of tension. Students should
play football, hockey, basketball and badminton to reduce stress.

Exercise is also said to relax the body muscles and keep you calm. Students must have hobbies
such as reading, collecting stamps, fishing or listening to music of your choice. These leisure
activities help keep students free from school-related stress.

Therefore, students should plan a time-table. They can also work in groups to solve some of
their academic problems. Besides making friends and discussing certain issues, group
discussions can help improve study skills. One of these is the ability to make a check-list of all
the activities planned and carried out. This in turn will make studying more effective and avoid
unnecessary pressure.

Students should also have balanced meals and enough sleep. These are said to be basic to
healthy lives. Students, especially those in examination classes, must sleep and eat well
because a healthy body creates a healthy mind. However, the process of going to sleep can
sometimes be difficult. Hence, it is necessary to seek advice from those whom we trust and
love. Counsellors in school are helpful but you can always talk to your family first. However, if
nothing works, there is a need to seek treatment from the relevant authorities. You may be
surprised but a friend of mine said that screaming at the mountains and laughing your heart
out can take away stress.
SPEECH/ TALK
1) Your school is having a month-long A Healthy Body Campaign. As President of the Health
Club of your school, you decide to give a speech on the Tak nak Campaign recently launched
by the government.

Tak Nak Campaign

A very good morning to our dear Principal, Mr. Hasnan bin Jaafar, teachers and students.
Recently, our former Prime Minister, Tun Abdullah Ahmad Badawi launched an anti-
smoking campaign called Tak Nak. You can now see this short and rhyming catch phrase
Tak Nak everywhere on billboards, posters, TV ads, and sometimes I even hear it on the
radio. Though some people have criticised our government for setting aside a staggering sum
of RM100 million over 6 years for the campaign, it is nothing compared to the huge amounts
that tobacco companies spend to promote smoking.
But in this war against smoking, money definitely talks; it is necessary for the Tak Nak
Campaign to constanly remind us of the hazard of smoking because about 50 Malaysian
teenagers light up for the first time every day. In fact, some of these youth progress steadily
from this to regular use, with addiction raking hold within a few years. And this is despite the
warning on every pack of cigarettes that states unequivocally Smoking is dangerous to your
health.
What can the Tak Nak Campaign do to combat this? Their aggressive advertising
creates media awareness among the public, especially among the fashionable young crowd,
that smokers have yellowed teeth and suffer from shortness of breath and tells them that it is
not cool to smoke. It is also not responsible of them to affect non-smokers with second-hand
smoke.
Also, there is a succession of infomercials on TV and in the papers showing the
debilitating effects of tobacco addiction on the body and gruesome statistics of smoke-related
deaths. We are now familiar with the graphic pictures of damaged lungs on billboards which
should scare people into not smoking. This works, as I know some of my friends are quitting
now, or trying to reduce the number of cigarettes they smoke per week.
However, I feel any anti-smoking campaign is more effective if other people and
organisations are actively involved too. Yes, the first step has been taken by the top, but sad
to say, many of our politicians smoke themselves. Nearer to home, so do some of our parents
and teachers.
These adults have to be good role models by not smoking themselves. If they do
smoke, they should tell their children and students that they regret that they ever started, and
then take steps to quit smoking as soon as possible. They must practise what they preach.
On a more positive note, I commend the Malaysia Amateur Athletic Union for its zero-
tolerance of smoking because they know that smoking and health just do not mix. How can
our sportsmen excel if they cannot stop smoking.
Dear teachers and students, thank you for your attention. Let me end my speech by
reiterating that smoking is a bad habit, so make Tak Nak your mantra. If you have started
smoking, say Tak Nak and quit! And if you havent started smoking, say know that smoking not
only damages your health but you are also literally burning your money.
2) You are the President of the Environmental Club of your school. You have been requested
by your principal to give a speech during school assembly. Your speech is in conjunction with
the Love your Environment campaign.

A very good morning I bid to the principal, Pn. Aqilah binti Ahmad, senior assistants, teachers
and friends.

I am Izzairy bin Azmie, proudly standing here as the President of the Environmental
Club, and am really honoured to be given this opportunity to talk to all of you today. In
conjunction with the Love your Environment campaign, I would like to talk about the
activities to be carried out to show that we love our environment.

As students, it is our responsibility to keep our environment clean. We play a vital role
in protecting our environment. A lot of waste can be reused such as bottles, cans, and
newspapers. Therefore, every morning we will go around the school compound and collect all
waste materials. Then we must separate these waste products in different garbage bags.
These garbage bags will then be sent to Recycling Centre.

The next activity is collecting old newspapers from our home. You are requested to
collect old newspapers and bring them to school every morning. The collection centre will be
the school canteen. There will be someone from the club who will be in charge of the
collection. Please make sure that you tie the newspapers into bundles before handing them
in.

Another activity that will be held is the poster competition. Anyone interested must
register with Lim May May from Form 5 Mulia. The closing date of submission is the 10th
March 2011. The theme of the posters must follow the theme of our campaign. The first prize
winner will get a book voucher of RM200, the second prize winner will get a book voucher of
RM100, and the third prize winner will receive a book voucher of RM50.

Finally, I wish to give a word of reminder to you all. Please do not litter. We must avoid
the habit of throwing rubbish indiscriminately. We must always remember that a cleaner
environment would ensure a happier and healthier life. I would like to make an appeal for full
cooperation from all parties to make this campaign a success. With that, thank you.
3) You recently won the Best Student Award in your school. You have been asked to give a
talk during assembly to share tips with the other students on what they need to do so that
they too can become successful students.

A very good morning to our beloved principal, Pn Laila Mohd Noor, senior assistants, teachers
and friends. On this glorious morning, I, Noor Sahidah Samsudin the recipient of this years
Best Student Award am going to give a talk on How to Become a Successful Student. In my
speech, I am going to share with you some tips on how you can be a successful student. If you
want to be successful, you must set goals. Research shows that people who set goals
accomplish more than those who do not. In deciding your goals, ask yourself What do I want
to be? and What do I do to get there?

Besides, you must be motivated. When you are motivated you will have a strong desire
to do well and to achieve your goals. In addition, you must pay attention in class. Listen
actively and focus on what the teacher is teaching. If you have disruptive classmates, sit in
front of the classroom, away from them. Always ask questions if you do not understand. Seek
clarifications from your teachers or your friends if you are shy to approach the
former.Another important tip to being a successful student is to be organised. You can use a
planner or notebook to write down all your assignments when they are given. This way you
will not forget your homework, dates of tests or projects. Remember, if you are organised you
will be well- prepared and you will have less stress. Moreover, you must complete your
homework on time. Homework helps reinforce what you have learnt. It helps you understand
and remember the information.

You must prepare well for exams. A successful student is one who prepares for exams
well in advance, and not at the eleventh hour. If you study consistently, you will have ample
time for revision.Friends, to be a successful student you must have diverse interests. You
should take part in co-curricular activities in order to become a well-rounded person. These
activities help develop leadership skills and teamwork besides instilling values like cooperation
and tolerance. Discipline is an important aspect of our lives. No matter where you go or what
you do, you will be subjected to rules and regulations. Hence, it is crucial that you obey the
school rules.

Dear friends,What is success if you lack the common courtesies in life? Remember, you
must respect everyone. You must respect your parents, your teachers, the school staff and
also your friends. You must respect other peoples feelings and opinions. There are also several
things you must avoid if you want to be a successful student. You must avoid wasting time.
These days many teenagers spend hours on social networks such as Facebook or playing
computer games. These are a waste of time and will not benefit you in any way. Remember,
Time and tide wait for no man. Also, avoid skipping school. Some students feel that school is
a waste of time as they can learn better from their tuition teachers. This is not true. The
teachers in our school are experienced and well qualified. They are also experienced
examiners and they know how to impart knowledge effectively.I have to stop here. I hope you
have found my talk helpful. Thank you for listening attentively.
INFORMAL LETTER

1) You recently went an expedition with your classmates to Langkawi. You have been asked to
write a letter to your cousin about your visit to Langkawi Island.

Rosni Alias
No.3,Jalan Sutera,
Taman Cempaka,

Selangor.
12 March 2012.

Dear Zarina,

How's life? I hope you are in the best of health. How's my beloved Uncle Johari? I miss
him too.The reason I write this letter is to tell you about my expedition to Langkawi. Guess
what? We just came back from Langkawi . I went there with 25 of my classmates and my class
teacher. Mr, Zaid had kindlly accompanied us for the 3 day-trip. You should have joined us. It
was such an awesome experience!
Well, on the first day, we arrived at Langkawi in morning after a short flight. Then, we
were taken to Langkawi Geopark, a UNESCO World Heriatage Site where we could see
magnificent rock formations. We were taught the history of the place and some fossils of fish
could also be sighted. This is a wonderful opportunity to understand geogical aspect of the
island at the Geopark.
After visiting Geopark, we were taken to Pulau Dayang Bunting which about an hour
boat ride. I forgot to mention that the boat ride itself was so exciting and adventurous. Upon
arrival at the island, we were greeted by monkeys and soon, we saw a breathtakinng lake,
with its gree clear water. Not forgetting the fish spa where thousands of catfish nibble at your
feet when you lower feet into the water. Again, this is a new experience for me. Other than
that, we could really enjoy the beautiful scenery of the island.
The next day, we went to Underwater World where we saw the penguin, giant fishes,
colourful onemones and all sorts of marine life there.I'm sure, it's heaven for fish lovers. One
advantage of this trip is I could learn about themarine life. Well, on the final day, we went to
Mahsuri Tomb and Padang Mat Sirat to relive the legend of Mahsuri. It was a good experience
since I managed to see the historic sites and understand Mahsuri legend better. Other than
that, I also learn about the importance of being true to our words and do not spread false
gossips since these can lead to horrible consequences. I also managed to make friends with
some other tourists visiting the site.
Okay, I guess I have to have to pen off now. Hope to see you in the next letter. Please
convey my love and regards to my uncle and auntie. Take care!

Love,
Rosni
2) Your cousin has been chosen to take part in the National Service Programme and is worried
about going. You have decided to write a letter to tell him/her about the benefits of this
programme and to encourage your cousin to go.

1 November 2010
Dear Natasha,
It has been a long time since I last heard from you.I heard you have been very busy!
Hope you managed to get some rest when the school holidays started. How are Uncle Gabriel
and Aunt Jinny doing? I hope everyone is well. You must be wondering why I had suddenly
decided to write to you. Well, my parents told me a few days ago that you were selected to
join the National Service Programme and you are worried about going.I thought that I should
drop by and encourage you to go with joy and anticipation as I have heard many positive
remarks about the programme from my seniors who have been to the programme.
Firstly, my seniors who were mostly rowdy I and playful developed many good habits
during the programme. They learnt the value of tolerance and ; toning down their personality
to accommodate others who may not appreciate their lively personalities. In turn, they learnt
to make new friends through this period of adjustment and found that there are so many
interesting people out there! The best part is that you get to meet many people from different
parts of Malaysia stretching even across East Malaysia. It will be an exciting experience! On
top of that, the fact that you will be mixing with so many different friends will encourage
teamwork and help you work better with people. There will be difficulties working with some
people, but do not be discouraged as the experience will be great for character building.
Besides that, you would learn leadership skills and build a great sense of responsibility.
I remembered you have always wanted to take up leadership positions but never had the
courage to. Here is the chance for you to build those skills and prove yourself a leader. The
activities lined up in the programme are sure to interest you too. Some of the activities
include the flying fox and various outdoor activities. The physical activities will help you keep
fit and healthy. You would also be participating in community projects such as cleaning up
rural areas and helping out at community centres. There will also be modules that occupy a
large part of the programme which promote patriotism and good values. The cultural night is
also a fun night where you will get dressed in your cultural costumes and share with one
another about your own cultures.
Since you are the adventurous type, you will be glad to know that you could be placed
at any camp in another part of Malaysia. It will be an eye-opening experience to live in
another town or state away from your own home. Surely that would help you gain many new
experiences that you can only dream of apart from joining this programme. What a privilege!
Being away from home also means that you learn to be independent. You will learn to take
care of yourself, wash your own laundry, make your own bed and a lot more. Through this,
you will develop survival skills that will be helpful wherever you go in the future. You will
cultivate great discipline through being independent and having to wake early for the
programme every day.
I think I will have to stop here. I trust that I have said enough about the benefits of the
programme though the benefits are not exhaustive. There is only one way to find out - go
experience it for yourself! I am looking forward to hearing your stories when you return from
the programme. Take care for now.
Yours sincerely,

Katrina
LETTER OF COMPLAINT

Noor Sahidah Samsudin,

123 A, Lorong Bahagia,
Taman Sentosa,
07231 Bandar Baru Sentol

The President,
Bandar Baru Sentol Council,
Kompleks Utama,
07200 Bandar Baru Sentol
Kelantan. 8 FEBRUARY 2017

Dear Sir,
Uncollected Rubbish and Clogged Drains
I am writing this letter is to attract your attention to the above title. As the representative of
the community, I am calling to tell you that the 300 odd residents living in Taman Sentosa are
extremely unhappy about the lackadaisical attitude of the local town council towards the
uncollected rubbish and clogged drains in our area.
2. The rubbish in our area has not been collected for more than a week. The rubbish is
supposed to be collected on alternate days but this has not been the case. The town council
workers collect the rubbish according to their own whims and fancies. The uncollected
garbage has attracted not only flies and mosquitoes but also wild dogs which had attacked the
residents on several occasions. These stray animals also scatter the rubbish and make the
roads dirty and smelly. As a result, residents have to bear the discomfort of stench from the
garbage and risk their health.
3. We are also disappointed with the town council workers for not clearing the clogged
drains which are filled with rubbish. The drains would usually overflow when there is heavy
rain and the rubbish would then flow into the compounds of our houses. Besides, putting up
with the unbearable stench emitted from them, the residents have to spend hours cleaning
their compounds of rotten vegetables, food leftovers and other rubbish.
4. Due to dengue outbreak recently, we are really concerned about the residents health
especially the children. Fogging service also was not done accordingly to the schedule. The
fogging authority only did their job whenever a case of dengue aroused. They even fogging
the neighbourhood late at night that caused us to leave the residents. They need to consider
the residents who have babies and also to those who need to wake up early in the morning
for work. The fogging also caused the people to have breathing problem when we were not
told the exact time of fogging.
5. We have made numerous appeals to the Municipal Council to look into our complaints but
to no avail. We have been putting up with this predicament for more than a week. We hope the
health authorities would do something to check these health hazards.
Thank you.
Yours faithfully,
Sahidah
(NOOR SAHIDAH SAMSUDIN)

Dear Sir,

Complaint About Unsatisfactory Food And Restaurant Service

I wish to express my dissatisfaction about the food and service at your established and well-
known restaurant. On behalf of my family, I would like to raise a few points regarding this
matter. My family and I had dinner at your restaurant on 08 September 2013 to celebrate my
mothers 50th birthday. We expected to have a great time at your seafood restaurant but
unfortunately we did not.

2. Your waiters treated us rudely and inconsiderately. We had to wait for about half an hour
before we could order any food. The waiter spoke to us rudelywhilst taking the orders. In fact,
he scolded my mother who wanted to have a cup of tea without sugar. He claimed that the
restaurant does not serve such a drink. For your information, my mother has diabetes and is
trying to avoid taking sugary food and drinks.

3. The poorly cooked food was also unsatisfactory. We were surprised to find out that the
roast chicken and fish that we had ordered were still raw and inedible. The mushroom soup
tasted a bit sour and the fried prawn was overcooked. We made a complaint about the food
to your waiters and cooks but no further action was taken.

4. Besides, the poorly served food we also felt uncomfortable with the dirty andunhygienic
conditions at your restaurant. The food was greasy. There were some cats wandering
searching for food. These bad conditions are harmful as they might get food poisoning and
other health problems.

5. I nearly lost RM57 as a result of the wrongly totalled bill I was given. It was my sister who
noticed the unreasonable price of the food. Then, we recounted the bill and found that out it
was wrongly calculated. The total was supposed to be RM120 but the calculation made by the
cashier showed RM177.
6. Another problem that spoiled our evening was the noisy surroundings, especially the
yelling of waiters and waitresses calling names and taking orders from the customers. Besides
this, the loud music and noise coming from the kitchen also contributed to this unsatisfactory
situation. What more disappointing were the defective fans and air-conditioners? The
weather was very humid and there were a lot of people in the restaurant. There are also old
anduncomfortable furniture in your restaurant.

7. Hereby, I would like to make suggestions to help you solve these problems. First of all, I
suggest that you look at your restaurant and make sure no more cats and other stray animals
are on your premise. You should also train your waiters and cooks to provide good service and
food to customers. It would be better to use a calculator to avoid mistakes in totalling the bill.
You need to repair the defective fans and air-conditioners immediately. Last but not least,
cleanliness should be maintained in all parts of your restaurant. I hope that you will look into
these complaints and take immediate actions. It is very important to remember that The
Better The Service, The Better The Business.

Thanking you in advance for your co-operation.

Yours faithfully,
Sahidah

LETTTER OF ENQUIRY

Prof. Albus Cohen
London University
London, WC3E 7HU

Dear Mr. Cohen,

Warm greetings!

I am Rhoda Crossick, a previous student of your university. Last year, I enrolled in an Associate
Degree in Communications and finished attending classes for the first semester.
Unfortunately, I suffered from a car accident before the start of the second semester and I
was no longer to attend classes. I was also not able to inform the university of my condition.

I hope to continue studying in the university but have decided to take a different course. I
want to inquire the procedure I need to follow to be able to go back to school. Will I undergo
the same procedure as a new applicant or do I need to write a letter to my previous college?
It would be a pleasure for me to be able to continue my studies in the university as it is
reputed to be one of the best. Should I need to be reached, you can contact me at 020 7799
6236.

Thank you.

Respectfully,

Ms. Rhonda Crossick

Dear Sir / Madam,

Application for the Post of Accounts Assistant

I wish to apply for the post of Accounts Assistant as advertised in The New Strait Times dated
5 February 2010.

2. I have the necessary qualifications as stated in my curriculum vitae which is attached to

this letter. I have experience working in both food manufacturing and also auto manufacturing
fields. I am currently working in Lazat Ice Cream Sdn. Bhd. in capacity of an Accounts Assistant
and have been here since January 2008. Before this, I was working in TFR Auto Enterprise as
an Accounts clerk. Since my present position offers little prospect for career advancement, I
would like to be attached to a fairly large organisation such as yours.

3. I would like to work in Nilai as I intend to further my studies and get professional
qualification. I have registered with a college in Nilai to do ACCA on part-time basis. With this
high additional education level and knowledge, I can perform better in applying the accounts
knowledge in the future job.

4. I can assure you that I am capable person who can work independently. I am able to
handle full sets of accounts, up to three sets at a time. I am interested in working with a
company like yours as I feel I can grow well with the company. I am a team player, adapt
easily to any working environments and can work with people from all works of life.

5. I was active in extra-curricular activities and was considered as responsible and

dedicated worker. I led and organised many activities for the school clubs so I am confident
that I can be an asset to your company in this capacity. Furthermore, i have a good command
of English.

6. In view of my qualification and experience, I would expect a salary more than RM 2000.
And since I have my own car, I would have no problems travelling outstation should the job
require.
7. I look forward to hearing from you and I am fully prepared to attend an interview at
any time convenient to you.

Thank you.

Yours faithfully,
Sahidah
