My personal philosophy is that I should be a servant leader to everyone around me and

to teach with honesty and integrity. It is imperative to teach children how to be physically

active, which promotes longevity and fitness for life. This is crucial because the health of our

children is the future of our country. Additionally, 1 Corinthians 6: 19-20 says 19 Or do you not

know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You

are not your own, 20 for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body. (Holy Bible

ESV). Therefore, through the implementation of the following organization and administration

career guide, it is expected that our family of employees take this into consideration in regard to

their responsibilities.

There are five functions of management, which include: planning, organizing, staffing,

directing/leading, and controlling. Planning is one of the most important objectives that allows

an institution to run smoothly. This provides a great foundation for the association and allows

for routine arrangements to be made within an organization. Organizing determines the needs

of the department and implements a solution for successfully categorizing each task. This is

essentially the structure of the institution and allows for specific needs to be met. Staffing

involves the hiring and releasing of employees, as well as, training the those that are currently

working. This is of tremendous importance because if the director is not training their

employees, then they can never improve their skills or the institution itself. Directing/leading is

very crucial because encompasses being a role model and leader in your chosen workplace.

Developing leadership skills shows that you are passionate for your career and expresses to your

superiors that you can effectively take charge when need be. Controlling can be implemented by

giving evaluations to your employees to provide constructive feedback and acknowledging a job
Macy 4

well done. In this area, integrity is involved on all levels. An example of this could include

accountability for ones actions and avoiding taking advantage of having a superior role. These

functions are all very important and certain institutions may need improvement in a certain

area compared to another. That idea is suggested in the planning strategy, which emphasizes

objectives as a key in knowledge on what needs to be accomplished.

Leading Organizations

In my chosen career as a Physical Educator, leadership and management play a critical

role. This is true because being a respectable and servant leader sets an example for students,

colleagues, and peers. This shows that one is competent, well-informed and experienced

enough to trust in their position. An example of this would be noticing a colleague or student in

need of help in a situation, and aiding with whatever they may need at the time. Management

also plays an important role because for the institution to run efficiently, it needs to follow the

five functions of management mentioned earlier. Something that would be very important for

me being a physical educator would be the function of staffing. This is imperative because if the

right teachers are not employed and properly trained, the institution and the students will

suffer tremendously. For example, this could be hazardous if a student has been injured

somehow due to lack of teacher safety knowledge or the disorganization of operations.

The leadership approach that I would take is the use of Theory Y. This is because it gives

opportunities for the employees to show their superiors that they can do amazing things within

the district, if given the chances. This allows for employee development, growth, and

promotion. The management theory that best describes me and what I strive to be as a physical
Macy 5

educator involves systems. Systems is the best choice because everything in this field of work

must move smoothly and flow together for efficient functioning. I have created a website that

has these components and more. it emphasizes importance of leadership and management in

the workplace. The website link is http://brycemacy.weebly.com. I hope you enjoy exploring and

that it provides insight on how important these factors are.

Ethics and Biblical Principles

Personal philosophies, ethics, and Biblical principles can both relate or conflict with

administrative challenges in physical education. Personal philosophies can relate in the fact that

if they both place importance on similar concepts, then it will mesh perfectly and construct a

work environment that coincides with ones own ideologies. For example, if two educators like

the systems philosophy, then they will not have any problems with each other. On the other

hand, they can conflict because if one educator likes the systems philosophy, and the other

person despises it, the institution would not run smoothly or efficiently. Ethics can be relatable

to administrative challenges because if someone is unethical in their approach, deep issues can

arise. If an individual lacks honesty and integrity, they cannot be trusted with anything. Also, if

an educator is unfair and gives special treatment to certain students or colleagues, that is not

unprofessional and a violation of conduct. Ethics need to play an enormous role in

administration.

Biblical principles play the largest role in administrative challenges because we, as

Christians, should live our life as Jesus did. This means following the Ten Commandments and

adhering to the Holy Bible. Handling administrative challenges in a Biblical manner can solve

issues that may arise. One strategy that educators could use for decision through meetings that
Macy 6

include everyone and work towards a common solution. This ensures that everybody is heard

and that their thoughts are taken into consideration. In the past, I completed an assignment

called ethics and liability. This highlighted an important decision of mine involving an

administrative challenge in reference to the sponsorship of Galactic Energy. This was a helpful

exercise because it promoted experience in decision making when it comes to administrative

challenges. This allowed for valuable practice in handling liability issues, and determining

whether certain situations are ethically sound or not.

Planning
Planning is very important because it cultivates a mission statement and image for the

institution. It is also crucial because it starts the whole creative process, especially when

beginning from scratch. This step helps when determining objectives for the institution. I have

provided a link, National-Initial-Physical-Education-Teacher-Standards-2012(1).pdf. This lists vital

physical education standards for teachers. Planning principles that could include developing a

vision for the institution. The vision is what will guide the institution on their journey to be the

very best they can be. Additionally, in this step its important that the standards and goals the

institution sets are met. As you read before, I provided the standards for physical education

teachers that help ensure this. The standards cover everything from scientific and theoretical

knowledge to skill-based and fitness-based competence.

A wide array pf material is covered there. The national and state standards for both

students and teachers must be met for the year to be considered successful. The curriculum
Macy 7

goals and objectives should be placed on the syllabus or at the very least posted in both locker

rooms. Another example of this is that all teachers and professors have objectives/goals written

down and accessible at all times for quick reference. The goals/objectives tell the students and

teachers what will be covered and what milestones should be achieved by the end of the

academic school year. As a physical educator, I will have the goals and objectives written out and

provided to the students, so they can access them at any time. These will also be posted in the

locker room so students can see all of the interesting Physical Education subjects they will be

learning and expected to become knowledgeable in.

Organizing
Physical education is a career advanced study that requires a thirst for new knowledge

and adaptations. There are constantly new ideas being introduced challenging the best way to

exercise, or how to make exercising fun for children. One should organize opportunities for

advancement. It is crucial to improving upon-and implementing- the most effective ways to

have kids exercise. This will help you not only prove your organizational skills, but to connect

better with your students. For example, being a Physical Educator, I would want to research

professional websites. By doing this, it will allow me to learn the newest and best strategies out

there to use. Becoming a lifelong learner is very important not only to Physical Education, but to

any career that is out there. Something that is also important is having goals set for yourself. I

have two, which are: 1.) I would like to have every student that encounters me learn to keep

themselves fit for life, and for 2.) Every student to can implement these strategies with

confidence and ease. In this field, it is important to teach people a love for physical activity that
Macy 8

lasts. That is the ultimate goal, knowing that I helped make someone active for life because I

shared my wisdom and made a difference. My second highlights individuals knowing how to

exercise correctly by having the right form, staying safe from injury and on a faster road to

recovery. The best program approach for Physical Education would be programming by

objectives. This is the best one because as a Physical Educator, one must meet state standards

by the end of the academic school year. If these standards are not met, one could get into a lot

of trouble with the Department Chairs of Physical Education. Setting goals and programming by

objectives are very effective ways one can make sure that the students are soaking up the

needed information.

Controlling
The role of a Physical Education teacher has a lot of elevated responsibilities that must

always be taken care of. Legal liability is a very important issue when it comes to Physical

Education, therefore, It is imperative to pay attention. Lawsuits are an example of a serious

consequence involved in the subject of liability. There are many laws that have to do with legal

liability, such as Acts of Commission. This law means any wrongful or incompetent measures

taken by a Physical Educator can lead to dire situations. For example, lack of supervision that

causes students to harm themselves. This is a very serious matter that should not be taken

lightly. This is highlighted in Chapter 9 of the textbook, where it states, negligent behavior (#1

cause of lawsuits in Kinesiology) (chapter 9 lecture legal and risk management). Negligent

behavior is very serious and could come in many forms such as: reckless misconduct, slight

negligence, etc. Having the parents of students sign a waiver will help take some liability off

ones shoulders. I have formulated a risk management plan t to prevent myself from being sued.
Macy 9

This involves having laws and principles printed out and stapled to the wall, so that everyone

can see them and be aware of them. All in all, liability comes in many forms and is to always be

taken seriously.

Additionally, there are many different types of budgets out such as budgets for getting

equipment, giving out scholarships, and budgeting for new facilities. Ordering comes in many

different forms such as: new uniforms/attire, cleats, shoes, bats, balls, or helmets. Ordering

goes hand in hand with the budget because each team has a certain amount of money they can

spend a year. Sponsorships also play a role in the budget because those funds should be set

aside for students and programs. I have provided a fitness video,

https://youtu.be/8fUWz8ChW1A. This references different places one can exercise and a new,

competent employee I would hire to the company.

Summary
Overall, Physical Education has many different parts to it stemming from leading

organizations, to planning, to organizing, to controlling, and to staffing. I believe that by one

being a servant leader with integrity and honesty that they will be able to teach students to the

best of their abilities. Furthermore, implementing Biblical principles into Physical Education will

greatly help the field. The Bible will help with any challenges that come into play, such as people

not being honest, or not treating the students as their neighbor, or how they would want to be

treated. After all, He is the one whom created us. Finally, the five management functions will

help not only me, but anyone who is willing to take the time to learn about them.

1) Rationale for Equipment Need & Budget: Include a 1-2 paragraph narrative that justifies the
new equipment and your budget needs for your career. Remember to be good financial
stewards.
I would like this new equipment because it would provide the students with a lot
of education and fitness needs. Most of the things that I would be buying come
in sets of 6 or 12, and that would provide savings and efficiency in buying. The
body fat monitor is probably the most important thing because it shows the
Macy 13

students what their range is and where they should be when they get older; a
lot of valuable information and education. This equipment would greatly impact
my students and help them tremendously with their fitness levels, fun, and
education of their bodies.

2) You received your budget for the year! BUT it covers only 85% of your request. According to
your purchase order, how much was funded and how much is still needed? Describe 1 possible
means of revenue since you did not receive the full amount (see reading and instructor
presentation for examples then relate them specifically to your career).

$1,358.02 was funded and I would need $239.66. One possible means that I
could do would be to have a fundraiser to raise money for my fund. That is
something that people, I hope, would help us with.
