a turn to perform specific dribbling tasks to improve their skills. One student will dribble from
one end to the other with specific instruction and once the first student returns they will hand the
ball to the next and they will complete the task. These tasks will be: dribble with your right hand
to one end and dribble with your left hand back (twice), both hands there and back(twice),
crossover move at foul line, half court line, foul line and repeat on the way back, between the
legs and the same lines as the crossover, behind the back move at each line mentioned before.
b. In five equal groups students will form into lines at the baseline, similar to their partner
lines, and perform each task as a relay race. If a team does not have enough players, one player
may be permitted to go twice. the quickest team to perform the tasks first will win the relay race.

Students will lie on their back and shoot up in the air trying to get rotation on the ball.
b. The class will be split into two groups, one at each main basket of the gym. Each group
will form two lines at the top corners of the foul line facing each other. One line will be given
one ball and the other line will not have a ball. The student at the front of the line without the ball
will jog halfway to the other line and receive a pass from the opposite line and shoot at the
basketball hoop. The student who shot will get their rebound and pass it to the line they came
from and this action will be repeated.
c. Students will be shown how to shoot a proper layup with an emphasis on approach to the
basket, jumping off the proper foot and shooting with the proper hand (depending upon which
side of the basket they are shoot on). They will form two lines at half court facing a basket. One
line will be deemed a rebounding like and the other will have to balls and will be the shooting
line. The first student in the shooting line will perform a layup on the appropriate side and the
first student in the rebounding line will catch the ball and give it to the next person in the

introduction of defenders as well. (35 min)

Drills:
a. Students will be put into groups of three and instructed on how to perform a pick or
screen to make a player on their own team open to receive a pass. Two of the students will be
deemed as offense and one on defense. One offensive player will be guarded by the defender
and the other offensive player will execute a pick/ screen.
b. Students will be shown on the whiteboard in the gym the basic offensive play Motion.
It is a screen and screen away offense which implements the skill of setting picks/screens to
make players open to receive the basketball. Students will be broken up into groups of five as if
they were playing a real game and perform the Motion offense without defenders. After some
proficiency is shown two groups will combine, one on offense and the other on defense and each
will take a turn performing the offensive play.

a. Students will be shown proper defensive position: bent knees, butt down, back straight,
on the balls of your feet and hands out. They will line up in one corner of the basketball court
and slide in defensive position in a zig-zag pattern in between the foul line extended and the
out of bounds line. They will slide zig-zagging to the other baseline and continue on the other
side of the court.
b. Students will be split in two groups on each side of the court and spread out facing the
opposite side of the court. They will be down four actions key to playing good defense: foot fire
(tapping of toes in defensive position), rebound (jumping up and grabbing a ball), loose ball
(reaching to the floor and grabbing a ball) and box-out (taking two steps backwards in
defensive position). Students will listen to the instructor on which actions to perform and will
repeat the action aloud. Each group will be competing to be the most spirited and engaged group.

scenarios. (15 min)
b. Students will simulate transition like scenarios in 3 on 2--2 on 1 Drill. (35 min)

Drills:
a. Students will review the zig-zag defensive slide drill and continue to evolve that drill into
an offense/ defense drill. Now the defender will actually be sliding with another student who will
be dribbling a basketball towards the baseline while still zig-zagging. The two players will zig
zag back and forth until the opposite foul line, at which point the offensive player will try to
score and the defender will attempt to stop this from happening without fouling.
b. 3 on 2--2 on 1 Drill- Students will form two lines at the meeting point of the sideline and
half court line facing eachother. Two students will be defending one basket and one student, with
a ball, will be at half court and one student from each line will join to form three offensive
players. Once the two defenders gain possession of the ball they will then be on offense going
towards the opposite basket trying to score on the last offensive player to touch the basketball.
This drill is continuous.

each station, the students will practice the following activities; ball handling, dribbling, passing,
3-point shots/free throw, layups, man-to-man coverage. (30 min)
b. After each student has had 5 minutes to practice activities at each station, the teacher will
inform students to choose a partner to work with and self-report skills to the teacher. The
students will be familiar with the types of testing done for each skill, for example remember the
number of successful free-throws in thirty seconds. Students in partner pairs will report the
number to the teacher after they have completed each activity. (20 min)

Drills:
a. individual skill assessment drills (from previous classes)

Additional Information: Ensure that students that missed any classes have their missed
assessment recorded.

Cool Down: Student Led Static Stretches (10 min)

a. Leg reaches
b. Side lunge stretch
