REVISION HISTORY
OVERVIEW
OBJECTIVE To identify, remove and re-install the system assemblies upon being
provided a Sequoia system, a list of assemblies to remove, and all
the required tools. The system must be fully functional after
reinstalling the assemblies.
INSTRUCTIONS A fully functional Sequoia system is provided with all the tools
required to dissemble and reassemble the system.
1 Read the section Preparing to Remove FRUs on page 4-4.
2 Establish a work group of 3 or 4 students.
3 Remove the FRUs listed on the worksheet in the back of this
module and contact an instructor to evaluate.
4 After a Service Instructor says to continue, reinstall the FRUs and
verify the system operation. Troubleshoot, if necessary.
In case of any question or need advice with the task, contact an
instructor for help.
NON-BOARD FRUS If a non-board FRU is replaced, the part number, serial number, and
revision level has to be entered manually at NON-BOARD
CONFIGURATION. It is particularly important to enter the PPS part
number, and revision level as hardware monitor references this. The
FRUs involved are:
Main Power Supply
PPS
Backplane
User Interface
UI Left and Right Modules
Display Monitor
CAUTION! Do not replace the following combinations of FRUs at the same time:
Hard drive and RDP board
Hard drive and PIC board
Disable Service after replacing the FRU and closing the card cage
cover and side panels. Failure to do so will result in the system
failing to boot to Imaging with the following error message:
As system error has occurred. Please call Acuson Service.
BOARD LOCATIONS All boards must be placed in their designated slot. Slot numbers
start at the front of the system and do not include EMI shields. The
Sequoia ultrasound system utilizes two TX and BF boards which
may be inserted in either designated slot. Figure 4-1 illustrates the
Sequoia system FRU locations. However, for the Sequoia C256
system, always use the first slot for the single TX and BF boards.
The backplane is keyed to prevent insertion of a board in an
incorrect location.

TX (SLOT 3 & 4) Each Transmitter board provides 256 fully programmable transmit
channels; 64 transmit paths. There are two TX boards used on
Sequoia systems. On Sequoia C256 systems the second board in slot
4 is omitted.
CN (SLOT 7) The Controller board provides passband filter of signal. The focus
processor and the acquisition control processor (ACP) are on the
CN.
BDM (SLOT 8) The 2-D mode/M-mode Acquisition and Preprocessing and System
Data Memory board (BDM) provides preprocessing of 2-D mode
and M-mode data. Contains system data memory (SDM) which
stores all data passing through the Sequoia system. Overall control
provided by the system memory manager (SMM).
CSD (SLOT 10) The Color, Spectral and Audio Doppler Processor board provides
processing of spectral Doppler data, audio data and color data.
IOV (SLOT 14) The I/O Video board provides all video input and output functions,
digitalization of progressive RGB video. Conversion between all
video standards including NTSC, PAL, VHS and S-VHS.
IOE (SLOT 15) The I/O Expansion board performs JPEG compression of video
data and handles all Ethernet activity. Communicates with the SSP
via the Aux bus. Connectors provided to support future interfacing
needs through the use of daughter cards.
PIC (SLOT 17) The Peripheral Interface Controller board provides connections for
all standard supported peripherals. All signal lines are buffered.
Hardware monitor circuitry is located here as well as the power on/
off controls.
FIZ (MID) The Physio module provides a three lead ECG input, Pulse, Phono,
and Respiratory input. Additionally there are input ports available
for auxiliary functions.
MONITOR ASSY The Sequoia system includes a System Display Monitor of high
(TOP) information density. The video input to the monitor is progressive
RGB.
HD (MID) The Hard Drive in a Sequoia system has multiple functions. The
Operating system resides here. The static imagers and dynamic
clips can also be archived on hard drive.
MOD (FRONT) The Magneto Optical Drive in a Sequoia system has multiple
functions. It is utilized during software installation, backing up
system data, and for service functions. The static imagers and
Dynamic clips can also be archived on MO disks.
USER INTERFACE The User Interface provides the interface between the user and the
(FRONT) Sequoia system. The components of the user interface include
various FRUs such as FPP board, QWERTY, expansion modules,
trackball and switch assy, and UI switch assembly.
MAIN PS (LHS) The Main Power Supply accepts AC voltages from 85-264 VAC and
provides DC voltages utilized by the system. It also routes the AC
to the fan tray for the PPS, system monitor, and accessory outlet
strip.
FAN TRAY ASSY The Fan Tray Assembly contains various FRUs including a fan tach
(RHS) board, four fans, relay assy, accessory isolation transformer, voltage
select switch, and three circuit boards.
ACCESSORY OUTLET The BDM board provides isolated power for the peripherals
STRIP (REAR) interfaced with the Sequoia system via the Accessory outlet strip.
DISASSEMBLING THE
