Lesson idea implementation:

Following investigation into plot features, strategies for identifying plot events, and classroom examples,
students will create a timeline of plot events from their independent reading novel. The example Timeline
refers to The Lightning Thief by Rick Riordan. This activity will take place after the completion of the reading,
as a means of reviewing important plot events throughout the span of the novel. Students will have to choose
the 7-10 most important plot events in the story. A one-two sentence description of the event should be
included in the Full Description textbox of Timeline point. Students will also include appropriate pictures to
represent event.

This part of project should take 1 class session. Student learning will be assessed based on Plot Timeline

Beyond-the-Basic Productivity Tools (BBPT)
rubric, which designates points for appropriate plot events, inclusion of pictures and event descriptions.
Timelines will then be used to give other students an overview of the book. The lesson will conclude with a
group discussion/session to share the Timelines with each other. Students will receive feedback through the
rubric and through written comments left on printed Timeline.
