Dear Parent/Carer,

Sixth Form Wider Learning Week 2017

I am writing to inform you about our plans for Year 12 students during Wider Learning Week,
which takes place from Monday 10 - Friday 14 July 2017. A full timetable is attached to this letter.
It is compulsory for all Year 12 students to attend sessions, even if presently they do not think
they wish to apply to university. Please note that students retaking Year 12 are only required to
attend the sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

The aims of the sessions are:

To introduce students to the process of applying to university
To register students on the UCAS website and support them in completing the personal
details section
To support students in completing a first draft of their personal statements, ensuring it is
uploaded to the UCAS website
To make students aware of apprenticeship and degree apprenticeship opportunities
To make students aware of STEM career opportunities

Students are expected to arrive at school for 8.45am on Monday 10 July, with activities
commencing in the Sixth Form Study Room. Students will then follow the attached timetable, with
their activities determined by their allocated group (also attached). Students will need to bring a
USB memory stick and details of their GCSE examination results to the sessions in the Library
on Wednesday 12 July. Please be aware that students will be allocated time to complete a draft
of their personal statement. Students who do not use this time for the intended purpose will not
be able to enrol for Year 13.

I would also like to take this opportunity to write to you regarding some important dates for August
and September:

SUMMER EXAMINATION RESULTS

These will be issued to students on Thursday 17 August 2017 at 9.30am. Enrolment for Year 13
will take place in the Study Room once students have received their results. To enrol to Year 13,
pass grades at D or above, in all three subjects, is required, unless a student is on a supported
pathway. BTEC Level 3 students must have completed all Year 12 course work units to progress
to Year 13.

AUTUMN TERM STARTS

Autumn Term starts for Year 13 on Thursday 7 September 2017. Students are expected in school
at 1.45pm to attend an assembly and an induction period with form tutors. Failure to attend,
without good reason, will be an indication to the school that students will not be resuming their
studies at Isleworth & Syon. Year 13 lessons will resume on Friday 8 September 2017.

Yours faithfully,

Mr J Doyle
Assistant Headteacher - Sixth Form Leader
