1 Safety Precautions

Warning
High optical power can cause bodily harm, especially to t eyes. Never look directly into the end of
the optical transmitter fiber jumper or the end of its acttive connector.

Caution
Do not touch any component or wires on cards, or metal conductors in sockets. ESD protection
measures should be taken if it is necessary to touch the card during maintenance.

Caution
Carpets or other materials that easily generate static electricity
e should not be used on the floor of
equipment room.

Warning
Optical communication equipment must be protected from
f electrical surges, thunder and lightning.

Caution
Exercise care if you must bend fibers. If bends are neccessary, the fiber bending radius should
never be less than 38mm.

Caution
Installers should bind all wires and cables used in onsite installation. Each cable type should be
bound separately. For example, power cables, alarm cables
c and optical fibers should be laid out
independently and bound separately. Note that optical fibers cannot be bound with typical wire
binder.
Caution
Do not open the active fiber connector unnecessarily. If it is necessary to open it for equipment
maintenance, protection measures should be taken to avoid contaminating the end face of
connector.

Caution
The network management system requires a dedicated computer. Use of unidentified memory
devices should be prohibited so as to avoid computer viruses.

Caution
When maintaining or testing the equipment, use a cab
ble to connect the instrument earth ground with
The equipment (or the cabinet where the equipment iss installed) earth ground properly.

ed installation method.

4 Installation of Subrack and Card

Instruction
Generally,y the subracks have been alreadyy installed in the cabinet and the cards, the fan units, and anti-dust screens
have been installed in the subrack before delivery and the onsite installation and removal of the components
mentioned above are not required. But these operation ns may be required during the expansion or maintenance after
installation.

5 Connection and Layout of Internal Cables

Note

Before laying out cables, remove the PDP front panel and pull down the baffle on the fiber passage area.
Then restore them to the original positions after the layout of cables is completed.
Remove the PDP Front Panel Pull Down the Baffle on the Fiber Passage Area

Instruction
The internal cables are the wires and cables that are connected
c inside the cabinet; these are usually connected
before delivery. Installers should check the connection
n of the internal cables on site. The items to check include
whether the cable distribution is reasonable, whether the
t wires and cables are neatly arranged and clean, whether
the connection plugs are connected firmly, whether inccorrect insertion or poor insertion occurs, and whether any
part is missing.

5.1 Layout of the Cabinet Protection Earth Grround Cable

1 Unscrew the bolts of the connector below the PE of XS4 on o the PDP; and then insert the bare wire end of the
cabinet protection earth cable into the connection hole on the right side of the connector and tighten the bolt.

3
2 Lay the cable along the wiring channel at the right side of
the cabinet and through the cabinet-top wiring hole to the
earth ground point at the cabinet top.

3 Cling the uninsulated spade tongue terminal of the cable to

Instruction
The type of the optical fiber jumper is determined by the types
t of the optical interfaces on the devices at both
local and far ends. All optical interfaces on the CiTRANS 660 side are LC/PC type.

Instruction
According to the type of the optical interface on the ODF, generally the internal optical fiber jumper uses the
FC/PC type or the SC/PC type (ODF side).

7.1 Preparations Before Layout

Instruction
Before layout, users need to complete the following pre
eparation works:

Make and attach temporary labels on both sides of the optical fiber jumper, put them in order and lay them straight.
1 Please note that the fibers should be arranged in pairs foor transmitting and receiving.

2 Cut out an appropriate length of protection casing accordding to the length of optical fiber. The fiber between the
cabinet on the local end and the cabinet / ODF on the far end should be protected by the protection casing.

3 Adjust the length of the optical fiber outside the protection casing: for fibers at the client and line sides, if there is a
redundant length of the fibers, installers should reserve the fibers redundant parts at the ODF side, so as to
nd line sides without redundancy.
ensure that the fibers enter the cabinet from the client an

9.2 Inspection before Power-on

Caution
The CiTRANS 660 uses a -48V DC power supply with
h an acceptable voltage range from -40V to -57V.
Before powering on the equipment, installers should check
c the following item:
1. Confirm that the cabinet power cable is correcctly connected with the external power supply equipment.
2. Confirm that the wires and cables at all levels are connected correctly.
3. Place all power control switches on the PDP in the OFF position.

4. Remove the power cable plugs of all subrackss.

5. Disconnect all cards and fan units inside the subrack
s but leave them on their slots.

9.3 Power-on Test on Equipment

1. Measure the voltage between the -48V (the exxternal power supply) and the GND connectors on the PDP.
The normal value should be between -57V annd -40V.

2. Place each main and branch ACB on the PDP

P in the ON position.
3. Measure the voltage between the -48V conne ector and the 0V connector on each subrack power cables
plugs respectively; the measured value should
d be among -57V to -40V.
4. Place each branch ACB and switch on the PD
DP front panel in the OFF position.

5. Plug the power card and insert the subrack po

6. Place each branch ACB and switch on the PD
DP front panel in the ON position.
7. Confirm that the subrack has no abnormal sou

8. Plug in the fan unit first. The fan unit will start running as soon as it is plugged and air movement will
begin.
9. Plug the cards into the subrack in sequence and
a cards will be electrified normally after two or three
minutes.
Instruction
The power-off procedures for the CiTRANS 660 are
