ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

Facilitated by members of the Philippine Educational Theater Association (PETA for brevity), and
as part of the development of the young cultural creatives, to the end that Palo will become a living
cultural hub in the Province of Leyte, the trainers training for members of the Palo Culture and the Arts
Organization was held last January 29 to February 2, 2017 at the Palo Central School NGCP Building.

The said workshop aimed at 1.) Providing the basic knowledge, skills, attitudes, and tools (KSATs)
in facilitating a workshop using the Integrated Theater Arts approach; 2.) Sharing essential elements and
principles of the PETA Pedagogy (Creative Pedagogy) and other pertinent training/education-related
concepts; and 3.) Providing practical tips and tools in designing and facilitating a workshop syllabus.

Basic Integrated Theater Arts Approach- interactive games, discussions, art activities, acting,
singing, dancing and the like -was used in teaching the participants which is a trademark of PETA
Pedagogy. Their approach places emphasis on the value of experience as the best way of learning, to the
effect that they let their participants experience firsthand the concepts and skills, not only constrained to
the conventional lecture discussion type.

DAY 1

The facilitators let the participants experience basic integrated arts workshop once again in the
perspective of a participant. As part of the course orientation, the participants were introduced to the
PETA principles and Philosophies, PETA Areas of Focus and the aims of the specific aims and objectives of
the training. Part of the inputs given during the first day was the following concepts: a.) What is Training;
Tools of a Trainer / Facilitator/ Educator; Qualities of a Trainer/ Facilitator/ Educator; Roles of a Trainer/
Facilitator/ Educator; and the Training Cycle.

DAY 2

On Day 2, the PETA Creative pedagogy was introduced, with underlying topics such as the
Anatomy of a Workshop/ Training Session, Pedagogical Framework Building, and principles and skills
underlying PETA Creative Pedagogy.

DAY 3

Day 3 was focused on enhancing pedagogical tools and skills in facilitation. Participants were
taught practical tips in facilitation (Communication, Facilitation and Content Management Skills), and
designing a training/ workshop syllabus which will be used to facilitate a mock BITAW workshop.

DAY 4

Day 4 was the application of all the principles and skills learned during the conduct of the
workshop. Participants were divided into six groups and were asked to create a 3 hours syllabus which
will be used in the practice teaching activity during the last day of the workshop. A practice teaching and
critiquing of the group syllabus was conducted in the afternoon with their co-facilitators acting as
students/ participants. Facilitation techniques and skills were better understood by the participants as
they act as facilitators and participants at some time during the activity.

DAY 5

As part of the culminating activity, the participants underwent a practice teaching of the syllabus
they have made. Selected elementary pupils from the Palo I Central School and secondary school
students from the Palo National High School were requested as participants to the workshop. In the
afternoon, an evaluation of the practice teaching activity was made in order to further enhance
facilitation and training skills of the cultural creatives. A planning activity and goal setting was made to
cope up with the different activities of the Municipality for the whole year round which involves the Palo
Culture and the Arts Organization and its partner organizations.

After the training, it can very well be said that the cultural creatives of Palo now have the
knowledge, skills, attitudes and tools for them to become good facilitators and are now in a position to
conduct basic integrated arts workshops in the Municipality of Palo.
