Manual Operation of Disconnector and
Maintenance Earthing Switch Drive Model BAC
Working Principle of mechanical Locking Device

Manual operation and locking of BAC Drive
Manual operation of disconnectors and earthing switches is
subjected to the following rules:
-> The electrical interlocking scheme remains active and insertion of handcrank
is ONLY enabled after the interlocking chain has released this action.

-> in addition, a MECHANICAL device guides the operator through a sequence of

logical steps and prevents from mistakes

-> a mechanical locking device is activated as a last step of the manual operation
procedure to secure the switch in a safe end position.

-> an earthing switch associated with the disconnector shall not be operated
independently. Its manual operation is to be blocked as long as the
disconnector is not fully open.

-> the motor supply circuit to the drive is switched off during manual operation

-> selection of manual operation modus exports a corresponding signal to the

control cubicle/dispatch center

-> the established safe switch position (typically disconnector open & earthing switch closed)
shall be padlockable

Two pins are located at the inner side of the cover

Cover installed:
- One pin activates the motor supply
circuit of the drive
- second pin suppresses alarm

Cover removed:
- one pin disables the motor supply
circuit of the drive
- second pin releases a signal
to report that cover has
been removed (manual mode)

pin operates contact

levers (padlockable)
become visible.

Manual operation and locking of BAC Drive
Establish final LOCK modus after
operation of earthing switch

Note: Earthing switch mode does NOT provide a padlock function !!

Reason: earthing switch modus must NOT remain active after the switch was closed.
The closed status needs to be BLOCKED mechanically. Therefore, last action is to turn
selector to LOCK position (mech. blocking bars engaged, closed position frozen)
