TOP STORY: INX3 REACTION

John McDonald, CEO, ClearObject

One of the organizers of this week's inX3 says a big

chunk of the four-day celebration of Indiana innovation
will key on the "oxygen" driving tech sector growth:
venture capital. ClearObject Inc. Chief Executive Officer John McDonald says scheduling two
marquee events -- the Venture Club of Indiana's Innovation Showcase and TechPoint's Winners'
Circle -- back-to-back creates a "one-ask" opportunity for investors. "Generally speaking, you've
got to get on an airplane," McDonald says about innovators seeking venture capital in a state
with a well-documented lack of it. He says the number of potential investors expected to attend,
plus the talent that will be on display will make the event "magical." McDonald says 40 different
venture capital companies are slated to participate, joining what he calls "the best group I've
ever seen" of innovative ideas at a statewide showcase. He credits past Innovation Showcases
with two different rounds of funding that helped his company, then called CloudOne, grow.

TECH/INSIDE INNOVATION: FIRST TEXT-BASED INTERVIEWING PLATFORM

Aman Brar, Founder, Canvas

Aman Brar has launched a new tech startup called Canvas. Its the first text-based interviewing
platform thats replacing phone-screens with text message interviews helping recruiters
interview 10 times more candidates daily. After interviewing hundreds of job candidates before
his previous company (Apparatus) was sold for $32.4M in 2015, Aman realized the screening
interview desperately needed a makeover. After all, were willing to screen potential dates with a
swipe on an app, but were still screening job candidates over the phone. Not to mention, todays
millennial workforce is quick to avoid talking on the phone, causing headaches for recruiters
who need to screen high volumes of candidates daily. Joining Aman and Jared Adams, COO, on
the Canvas board of directors is Tom Linebarger, chairman and CEO of Cummins. Roche is an
early adopter of Canvas and is already using the software platform to recruit millennials.

I ON ED: HUNTINGTON UNIVERSITY LAUNCHES PLANT SCIENCE

PRODUCTION FACILITY

Dr. Sherilyn Emberton, President, Huntington University and Dr. Raymond Porter, Director,
Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies

In 2015, Huntington University launched The Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies offering
several agribusiness degree options. The Institute recently received approval from the Indiana
Department of Education to offer an agricultural education degree. HU and the Institute says it
offers a very unique agricultural experience for those students who wish to study at a small,
Christ-centered institution. This spring, HU broke ground on the Ware Plant Science Production
Facility. This new facility will provide needed space for students in agriculture courses to work
with crop plants and learn about how they grow, stated Dr. Raymond Porter, Director of the
Haupert Institute for Agricultural Studies. Ag students will have hands-on learning and
research opportunities in the area of plant and soil sciences, with the potential for aquaponics as
well. Faculty and students in biology, chemistry, occupational therapy, and other programs can
also benefit from the additional space for instruction and research. And the Horticulture Club or
future ag-related clubs could use some of the space for plant propagation and production. We
are enthusiastic about the possibilities.
