ABSTRACT
Obando,Bulacan, which is divided into different barangays, is located in

region 3 that is considered a flood prone area because of its terrain description,

topography elevation and it is surrounded by bodies of water. Thus, most

barangays in the Municipality of Obando, Bulacan are flooded during rainy

season. Hence, the researchers chose this location to do their study

Assessment of Flood Vulnerability of Each Barangay in the Municipality of

Obando, Bulacan to measure how vulnerable a certain barangay in Obando,

Bulacan when it comes to flooding. The main goal of this study is to determine

the measures of vulnerability of each barangay in Obando, Bulacan and to make

an assessment for the results gathered. Researchers aim to know up to which

extent a barangay is vulnerable to flooding. To determine the vulnerability, the

researchers had used three (3) factors, and it is exposure, susceptibility and lack

of resilience. Before the social survey was conducted, a computation was made

to determine the enough number of respondents for the survey, and the

researchers used each household population gathered from Philippine Statistics

Authority (PSA) to calculate the said number. The researchers made an

improved questionnaire for conducting the survey that helped them to collect the

data for the flood vulnerability indicators in every barangay in Obando, Bulacan

to make a flood hazard map. In overall calculated average vulnerability scores for

the 3 factors, barangay Paliwas got the highest average v-scores which means it

is the most vulnerable barangay in terms flooding event. The researchers

translated all of the computed v-scores into flood hazard map to easily identify

and visualized which barangay is most vulnerable in flood and will easily

experience a flood with a minimum amount of rainfall. With this flood vulnerability

scores and hazard maps, it is clear which barangay is more vulnerable than the

others.

ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

Foremost, we would like to thank our dearest families for their unwavering

support, for giving their time and effort, and sharing with us their resources to

accomplish this feat.

We extend gratitude to our supportive friends back home and our fellow

colleagues for their blunt suggestions and corrections that had a great impact to

our research.

We would like to express our deepest gratitude to the residents of

Obando, Bulacan who imparted their knowledge in answering our social

vulnerability survey. This research would not be possible without them.

Also, the Barangay officials of Tawiran, Isla Karuhatan, Polo, Poblacion,

Tagalag and Wawang Pulo who guided us to conduct survey and back to our

home safe and sound.

We are also thankful to our research adviser, Engr. Joe Louise L. Garcia

for giving his support and guidance in our studies. We are truly grateful that he

enlightens us to believe in our abilities and extend our imaginations beyond our

limitations.

We are deeply grateful to our Almighty God who has been always treating

us so kind and generous. For His unconditional love towards us and many

blessing, we are grateful.
