My Philosophy of Leadership

As a leader, I believe that we should not look into a childs economic background but

instead we should help them believe in themselves and become successful individuals in life.

However, in order for this to occur, we must work collaboratively with teachers, parents and the

community. My focus will be on providing different perspectives to any situation we encounter.

My words to all my staff members will be to always do their best and to keep our schools

mission and goals in mind. I will lead with a learning mindset, knowing that situations change,

people change, and learning equals growth.

I expect to focus on building effective teams through the implementation of many

learning and teaching techniques. I will make sure that all are able to analyze the data necessary

so that our students are provided with the best and most effective learning environment. I will

also make it a practice to observe classes frequently not only to support teachers and improve

their teaching but mainly to offer my assistance in correcting any deficiencies observed and most

of all to praise and encourage the good work teachers are performing. Other important elements

in running a successful school that I will concentrate on is the management of the school budget,

the implementation of school policies, and the setting of curriculum standards.

My goal is to be able to make a change in everyone in the school community, including

all the students so they can achieve the highest level because school leaders are the ones that

guide everyone to work together, help face challenges, and create a transformative way to solve

these challenges. I will spend time reflecting on my leadership and I will learn from every

problem and situation, allowing me to be accessible to students, teachers and parents.

The main things I will be implementing will be to always speak with the truth and to

always treat others in the same manner I expect to be treated.

Characteristic of Exemplary Leaders

Mrs. Troutman, a retired principal, is someone who inspired me to follow my dream of

continuing with my education. She has many characteristics that I admire. For example,

Troutman, created a safe and orderly school atmosphere and expected us to provide responsive

attitudes towards students and fellow teachers. She always had the vision that all students are

capable of succeeding and performing to their fullest abilities. She is a generous and considerate

advocate for all those under her supervision. She is also a conscientious facilitator and problem

solver, providing an opportunity for everyone to learn including teachers. She is an active

listener, easily approachable, with a great ability to manage people without any problem. She

showed great knowledge in analyzing data and recommending and implementing the necessary

essentials needed to be successful. Mrs. Troutman always provided us with the opportunity to

participate in decision making. When I was reading The Virtues of Leadership, by Thomas J.

Sergiovanni, I noticed that she has many of the virtues mentioned, for example, she exhibits

hope, trust, piety and civility. Its amazing to be learning about the different characteristics a

leader can have and how they can use them to make a change necessary to obtain what is a good

result in the school and in the community.

An example of a male leader is Mrs. Troutmans son, as he shares some of the

characteristics of his mother. Dr. James Troutman is an outstanding principal. Every school that

he has been part of has been very successful. He is a great example of excellence in leadership.

Dr. James Troutman, is an excellent role model who meets the principals expectations such as,

shaping a campus culture and creating high expectations for students, faculty, and staff. He also

implements high internal and external communication skills in order for students to succeed. Dr.

Troutman applies all the ethical principles and integrity to achieve a high graduation rate. His

intensive knowledge of curriculum and instruction allows him to partner with businesses and

other organizations in the community, thus further allowing him to strengthen programs and

support campus goals. Providing professional development for teachers is a clear indicator that

he is aware of the strengths and weaknesses of the school.
