Assignment 1

Computer Hardware Components & Installation

In this assignment, you will have hands-on experience identifying, installing and testing
computer components. You will be asked to install computer hardware components and install
Windows 7 operating system. You need to identify & explain the purpose of the following
components:
Internal Drives hard drives (HDD, SSD, SSHD), CD drives, DVD drives, Blu-Ray drives,
floppy drives, Zip drives. These devices generally include a data cable (Integrated Drive
Electronics [IDE], Serial Advanced Technology Attachment [SATA]) attached to the
motherboard and a power cable that attached to the power supply.
Internal Cards Adapters or expansion cards that are plugged on to the motherboard
expansion slots (Peripheral Component Interconnect Express [PCIe], Peripheral
Component Interconnect [PCI], Accelerated Graphics Port [AGP]) including video cards,
networks cards, Redundant Array of Inexpensive Disks (RAID), and SATA controllers.
External Devices Any external device that connects to the computer through the
available ports including universal serial bus (USB), IEEE- 1394 (FireWire), Line Printer
Terminal (LPT), Computer Object Model (COM) or serial port, VGA, HDMI, SCSI and etc.
These ports can be connected to printers, scanners, external hard drives, media devices
using appropriate cable.
Memory Example RAM, CMOS, BIOS. RAM may be added to the computer's
motherboard to expand the amount of memory and to speed up the computer.

Assignment Requirements
1. Video presentation tools Camcorder, Mic, video & audio editing tools,
2. Take a video during the installation process (all members must present)
3. Uninstall or format the PC.
4. Identify each hardware component and explain their purpose.
5. Do some BIOS setup.
6. Install Windows 7.
7. Find appropriate drivers and install.
8. Edit your video for 10-20 minutes presentation.
9. Prepare a report about the installation.
10. Report Format:
a. Font: Times New Roman 12,
b. Line Spacing: Single Spacing.
c. Page length: 10-15 pages
d. Include one cover page with name and matric number.
11. You are required to submit the video presentation (softcopy) and report (soft & hard copy).
