Chain, Compass, Theodolite and Plane table surveying fundamentals, Traverse computations and adjustments,
leveling, contouring, computation of area and volumes, Curve setting, Trigonometric leveling, Tachometry,
Introduction to advanced surveying techniques viz. GPS, Total Station, EDM, etc.
4. Proposed course description:
Overview of Traditional Surveying Techniques like Chain surveying, Compass surveying and Plane Table
Surveying; Traverse Computations and Adjustments; Levelling; Contouring; Curve Setting: Different methods of
setting Simple Circular Curve, Compound Curve, Reverse Curve; Trigonometric Levelling; Tachometric Surveying;
Surveying with GPS / DGPS and Total Stations and Electronic Distance Measurement; Introduction to aerial
photogrammetry
5. Justification for the change in course description:
Surveying field has evolved over a period of time and as per the suggestions given by the experts and also the
members of CCDCA, this course has been completely modified infusing the advanced surveying tools and
techniques.
6. Have the proposed changes been discussed in Departmental committee on academics (DCA ) and the cross
campus Departmental Committee on Academics (CCDCA)?
This has been deliberated at DCA as well as CCDCA meetings with faculty across Pilani, Hyderabad and Dubai
campuses where the Civil Engineering programmes are currently running. The above description has been
arrived at after all the DCA and CCDCA meetings only
