3. Existing course description(write topics only):

Earthquake resistant design philosophy. Ground motion characterization, response spectra and design
earthquake. Evaluation of dynamic properties of soil. Free and forced vibration analysis of single and multiple
degree of freedom system. Seismic analysis of buildings as per IS: 1893 (Part-I). Analysis and design of shallow
and deep foundations under seismic loads; liquefaction of soil; seismic design of bridges, retaining walls, tanks,
chimney, towers, embankments and dams as per IS1893-Part1,2,3,4 & 5. Earthquake resistant construction and
ductile detailing for RCC & steel structure as per IS 13920 and IS 800. Seismic strengthening and retrofitting of
building. International code of practice for earthquake resistant design and construction of various structure
such as Eurocode 8, NEHRP 2009, FHWA, FEMA, ASC7-2010, ACI318- 2010, IBC 2009, etc.

4. Proposed course description:

Earthquake resistant design philosophy. Ground motion characterization, response spectra and design spectra.
Free and forced vibration analysis of single and multiple degree of freedom system. Seismic analysis and design
of buildings and other structures as per relevant codes. Seismic design of foundations and liquefaction of soil;
Earthquake resistant construction and detailing for masonry & concrete structure as per relevant codes.
5. Justification for the change in course description:
The syllabus is too long to be covered and also specific codes removed so that it is not India-centric.

6. Have the proposed changes been discussed in Departmental committee on academics (DCA ) and the
cross campus Departmental Committee on Academics (CCDCA)?
