cabinet ministers and sus-
pending them from the party
along with six other MLAs, in-
cluding his predecessor, T R Ze-
liang. The CM also sacked 10
parliamentary secretaries, of
which four are from NPF and
six are Independents, for sup-
porting Zeliang.
On Saturday, Zeliang had
staked claim to form govern-
ment, saying he had the support
of 34 NPF legislators. On Sun-
day, he left for Delhi to meet
state governor P B Acharya.
To save the Liezietsu gov-
ernment, NPF led an emergen-
cy meeting in Kohima on Sun-
day afternoon. NPF central of-
fice-bearers resolved to appeal
to the CM to grant amnesty to
those legislators led astray by
few vested interests who are at
present camping at a Kaziranga
resort, and to let them come
back to the party fold in the
larger interest of the party and
the party-ledgovernment.
The meeting also support-

country, generates a revenue
of Rs 14,000 crore.
Negi came under the scan-
ner after the central intelli-
gence unit of the customs de-
partment, during a surprise
check in May, found that a gro-
up of importers was smugg-
ling mobile phones and acces-
sories involving customs eva-
sion of Rs 26 crore.
The imports were physi-
cally examined and not clea-
red through the electronic fa-
cilitation mode, indicating
that officers were aware of
the items, sources said. Sub-
sequently, on the instructions
of directorate of vigilance, 11
officials were transferred.
Those suspended include the
officials transferred out of
the complex. Negi was in
charge of examination of go-
ods and the suspended exami-
ners and appraisers directly
reported to him, a source sa-
id.
A case of seizure of 200
blank guns declared as toy
guns went against Negi and
Ganoo, sources said. A sepa-
rate licence under the Arms
Act is required to bring in
blank guns unlike toy guns.
The matter came out during
an inspection by the directo-
rate after the goods remained
uncleared for a month.
Ganoo had examined the
guns and decided they were
toy guns but before they were
handed over to the importer, a
vigilant official raised an
objection.
