Summary
To present the timeline of the Ancients is to present a timeline for a major portion of the Stargate saga. The Ancients are
the founders of the Stargate network and along with their brethren the Ori are the creators of humanity in at least three
galaxies. To tell their story, one must also include the story of those who were created by them and who inherited their
legacy long after they moved on.

Ancients: On the Path to Enlightenment

The advanced human race known as the Ancients have a very long history, having lived over a period of at least 50 million
years. As the Ancients evolved both mentally and physically, they learned that their next stage of evolution was the
shedding of the physical body to live as a form of intelligent energy on a higher plane of existence. This process, known
as ascension, requires that the individual be prepared to handle the responsibility of increased knowledge and power as
an enlightened being. Because ascension requires this added maturity, one should seek to better himself while still in
human form. With this in mind, the philosophy of the Path to Enlightenment was established, giving the individual
guidance as he made his way toward a state of higher being. Those with less spiritual beliefs saw ascension simply as a
natural physical evolution of their species, but still might have applied the term "Path to Enlightenment" to the process
because ascension does expose one to the knowledge of the universe and thus enlightenment.
"Ascension doesn't make you all knowing or all powerful. It is just the beginning of the journey," Daniel Jackson explained
to his friends. Even so, the reality of it is that once ascended, a being does become more knowledgeable and powerful,
which can be a dangerous thing if the individual is not yet prepared to handle such knowledge and power responsibly and
benevolently. Two major groups of Ascended Beings sprang up as the result of two diametrically opposed philosophies
as to how to handle the power of being ascended and using that power against others, including the "lowers" ("humans
and such") of the corporeal plane of existence. These two groups actually came from a single human society who existed
a very long time ago in a distant galaxy: the Altera, who later became known as the Ancients and then as The Others, and
the Ori.
The Altera leaned toward the scientific study of their world, while the Ori had a more spiritual perspective, which
ultimately translated into the ascended Ori's establishing a religion with themselves as the gods so that they could obtain
more power by being worshiped by humans. This ability to draw power from the humans' worship has never been
explained, but apparently, all planes of existence are bound to each other in some way as part of a vast, infinite universe.
The ascended Ancients saw the Ori's corruption and decided to have no interaction with humans whatsoever so as to
avoid becoming corrupt themselves. Unfortunately, the Ori's corruption was so complete that they deemed their
brethren, the Ancients, as "evil spirits" who were "selfish in their powerful advantage" and felt that the only way to keep
their believers on the "true path" was to destroy anyone who tried to lead them "astray". Over fifty million years after
the Altera left their home galaxy, the differences between the two original groups of humans were exacerbated to affect
ascended and corporeal beings alike, making it a war of cosmic significance.
Not all Ancients ascended at once there were different periods of time in which the advanced humans had evolved to
the point where it was achievable. Ancients still had children and lived lives as human beings, some of them already quite
powerful in their own right (with advanced brain function, telekinesis, enhanced hearing, enhanced strength, the ability
to heal through touch, the ability to read another's mind, and precognition), before ascending. This means that
generations upon generations of Ancients achieved ascension throughout the ages. Advanced humans in the Pegasus
Galaxy were still ascending when the Atlantis Expedition encountered them about two years after Atlantis was discovered.
It isn't known how close the Alterans or Ori were to achieving ascension at the time of the rift over 50 million years ago
therefore, it is unclear if any of the Altera and Ori of that time actually ascended, including Amelius, the Alteran who
invented the Stargate.
There were some major events, however, that precipitated early ascension (i.e., before one's physical death), and thus
are considered mass ascension episodes on the timeline. Two such instances were when the plague swept through the
Milky Way Galaxy five to ten millions years ago, and the other, when the Ancients abandoned Atlantis and returned to
Earth 10,000 years ago. It appeared to be a generally-accepted rule that once one achieved ascension that there was no
looking back (releasing of one's burden) and that one would not return to human form again, although that ability did
exist. Some ascended beings have demonstrated the ability to transform back and forth between human and ascended
forms multiple times at will (such as Shifu in the Milky Way and Chaya in Pegasus). These mass ascensions left human
form Ancients behind to carry on, and sometimes these groups behaved expressly different than their predecessors,
taking different paths and embracing different philosophies.
Despite these differences, it appeared that the majority of the human Ancients held scientific discoveries in high esteem,
so when it came time to leave their mortal existence behind, they dropped almost everything pretty much where it was
for someone else to pick up and improve upon. Sir Isaac Newton said it best when he stated, "If I have seen further it is
by standing on the shoulders of giants." Even though each generation, or evolution, of humanity had to "reinvent the
wheel", after man achieved travel to other planets, there was plenty of technology and knowledge left behind as a legacy,
or inheritance, upon which he could build for further advancements. The Ancients put in place some ways to prevent the
premature use of some of their most dangerous technologies, but on the other hand, they didn't interfere when they saw
their legacies being abused, such as when the Goa'uld used their Stargate network to enslave others, which included their
second generation of humans. This watching, but not interfering, was the result of their belief that man (or sentient
beings) had the right to exercise his own free will ... no matter what the cost.

to Earth, where they blended into Earth's societies,
left the planet through the Stargate, or ascended.

the Milky Way is the natural occurrence of the ATA
gene (Ancient Technology Activation gene) that
allows the possessor to activate and interface with
genetically-keyed Ancient technology, as well as
the cultural influences of the world's ancient
civilizations. Some Ancients from earlier in this
period survived into the modern era in human form
via stasis, time travel, or some other form of
technological means, while a few Ascended
Ancients chose to retake
 human form. This period includes the reopening of
the Stargate in modern times and a near-repeat of
history as the humans of Earth assimilate the
Ancients' legacy, which not only includes
knowledge and technology, but also old rivalries
that the Ancients had failed to resolve. It also
includes the discovery of Destiny, which opened up
the universe to exploration (albeit limited) and to
the exposure to new life forms untouched by
Ancient hands.

In the shows and movies, the terms "Alteran" and "Ancient" have been used interchangeably, as have the terms "Ancient"
and "Lantian" (or "Atlantian"). Sometimes, the terms have been combined with "Ascended" to help the reader narrow
down the period or place from which an individual originated (such as the "Ascended Atlantian Ancient Morgan Le Fay").
The divisions presented in the above chart are merely meant to clarify the timeline herein. Basically said, the Ancient
family tree is defined by the descendants of the Altera who left their home galaxy millions upon millions of years ago, and
this family tree has branched off in several directions since that time. Although the term "Ancients" has been used (in the
shows) to describe advanced humans and ascended alike, it should be noted that just as there have been different groups
of man inhabiting a single planet, so there have been many groups of "Ancients" inhabiting the universe.
As a group of ascended beings, the Ancients have been called "The Others", but it should be noted that The Others include
more than just ascended Ancients there were also individuals who were helped to ascend by an ascended and some who
might have ascended with the use of Ancient technology that was left behind. In actuality, The Others is a group or
collective of ascended beings who have agreed to a certain set of rules regarding their role as ascended beings and how
they do or do not interact with the lower planes of existence (especially the corporeal plane). Based on that definition, it
is also possible that The Others include ascended beings who preceded the Altera/Ancients or who evolved concurrently
in another part of the universe, but this has yet to be addressed. There do exist other energy lifeforms that could be
considered ascended beings, since it is known that there are many levels or planes of existence associated with ascension.
One such lifeform was captured by the Ancients in Atlantis and studied in the Lantians' efforts to achieve ascension
through genetic manipulation. Conversely, not all Ancients were members of The Others some were exiled for breaking
the rules.
To get the most from this detailed timeline, it is recommended that the reader be familiar with the main characters of
the SG1 team and of the Atlantis Expedition with other major races of the Stargate universe, specifically, the Asgard,
Nox, Furlings, Goa'uld, Jaffa, Asurans (and by association, the Replicators), and the Wraith and with the significance of
the Abydonians and Tok'ra. Tied very closely to the Ancient arc is SG-1 character Dr. Daniel Jackson, who opened the
Stargate on Earth, was once ascended himself, discovered Atlantis, and had direct contactand conflictwith Ascended
Ancients, Ascended Goa'uld, and Ascended Ori. Ascended Ancients of note are Oma Desala, Orlin, Merlin, and Morgan Le
Fay. In opposition to the Ascended Ancients are the ascendeds Anubis of the Goa'uld and Adria of the Ori.
Not all of the events in the timeline can be tied down to an exact date, so estimates or approximations were made and
noted. For example, the development of the Goa'uld to the point that they were taking Unas as hosts and traveling
through the Stargate and in spaceships has not been clearly defined in the shows, but was considered important enough
to be included herein. By default, the majority of the events are from the Milky Way Galaxy's frame of reference, so if an
event happened in Pegasus or the Ori home galaxy, it is identified as such.
As the name of this timeline implies, the focus of this article is on the path the Ancients took from their home galaxy to
leaving behind their legacy as they moved on to another plane of existence. It also is biased toward the perspective of
the humans of Earth and of Stargate Command in particular. Not all of the episodes of Stargate SG-1 and Stargate Atlantis
are mentioned. For an overview of each season and the movies, the following articles are suggested as great kicking-off

This time estimate is based on the life of the crystal in the DHD found in Antarctica, where it is thought that the original
Stargate was placed in the Milky Way. (6.04 "Frozen")
The Ancients were originally known as the Altera who lived in one society with those
known as the Ori in a distant galaxy:
They were humans on the evolutionary path toward ascension, the shedding
of the physical body to live as a form of intelligent energy on a higher plane of
existence. (9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1") The Ori's intentions were at
first good, but sometime later they developed an extreme view based on a
philosophy they called "Origin", which in the oldest known form of their
language means "truth", which stymied technological and scientific
advancement. (9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1", 10.11 "The Quest Part 2",
Stargate: The Ark of Truth) The Altera isolated themselves in the mountains
because their definition of "truth", which was the result of "the systematic
understanding of the physical world through observation and
experimentation, through argument and debate," conflicted with the Ori's
definition of "truth" that was defined by their religion. The foundations of this
religion are not known, but it is possible that The Book of Origin was originated
at this time to "teach meditation on one's worth and significance, the path of
righteousness towards a state of higher being." This "path" was also known as
the Path to Enlightenment, which is what the Ancients called ascension. (Later,
the Ascended Ancient Oma Desala taught a similar philosophy toward
ascension by placing on the walls of her temple on the planet Kheb "an
instruction book on how to reach this ethereal plane of existence, some kind of
other world.") (3.20 "Maternal Instinct", 9.03 "Origin Part 3", 9.10 "The Fourth
Horseman Part 1", Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
The Altera lived as simple villagers on the surface of their mountaintop
settlement, but underground, they pursued their scientific studies and built a
starship. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
As the gap widened between the views of the Altera and the Ori, the Ori
began building up an army to strike down the Altera. An Alteran scientist
named Amelius proposed the use of a device called the "Ark of Truth" (which
he might have also invented) that could also strike down the Ori, but without
bloodshed. Instead, this device would brainwash the Ori into seeing the "truth"
(i.e., anything that the programmer placed into it), but the Alteran leadership
voted against using it because it was "forced indoctrination" and went against
their belief in the right for one to exercise his own free will. (Stargate: The Ark
of Truth)
The Altera left their galaxy in their starship instead of engaging in a war with
the Ori. They left behind several pieces of their technology, including a long
range communications device and the Ark. Amelius most likely left the Ark
behind hoping that the Ori would discover and use it, and thus know the "truth",
but the other Alterans hoped that it would be destroyed when they burst
through the mountaintop in their starship. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2", 9.10 "The
Fourth Horseman Part 1", Stargate: The Ark of Truth)

The Altera traveled for thousands of years until they reached a "belt of stars" and
made a new home in the Milky Way Galaxy, which they called "Avalon", and built
the network of Stargates, which they called
"Astria Porta". (10.02 "Avalon Part 2")
The first landing place for the Alteran starship in the Milky Way was on the planet
Dakara. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
Other early settlements of the Ancients in the Milky Way included Earth, which the
Ancients called "Terra" and which might be the site of the galaxy's first Stargate,
and Praclarush Taonas. (6.04 "Frozen", 7.22 "Lost
City Part 2", 10.03 "The Pegasus Project")
This time estimate is based on the map of Earth brought up by Jack O'Neill when
he had the second download of the Ancient Repository of Knowledge. The map
he showed his teammates from the control chair of the Praclarush Taonas
Outpost did not account for 30 million years of continental drift. He
identified the location of Atlantis, the Lost City of the Ancients, as being on what
became Antarctica. Since O'Neill was using the knowledge from the Ancient
Repository of Knowledge from P3X-439, it can be assumed that the knowledge within that Repository was at least 30
million years old (and most likely not updated since that time). (7.22 "Lost City Part 2")
The Ancients continue to populate and explore the Milky Way:
By this time, Atlantian city-ships (which might have also been called "Lantian
cities") existed on Earth in the area now known as Antarctica and possibly on
Praclarush Taonas. An Outpost existed on Praclarush Taonas that was identical
to the Outpost found in Antarctica, which was associated with the city-ship
Atlantis. Each Outpost had a ring transporter platform and was powered by a
device the Ancients called a "Potentia", which is called a "Zero Point Module"
(ZPM) by modernday humans. (7.22 "Lost City Part 2", 10.03 "The Pegasus
Project"

Other early settlements were Taoth Vaclarush, Valos Cor, and Verus Gen
Bree. (10.02 "Morpheus", 10.03 "The Pegasus Project")
The Ancients had built a large settlement on P3X-439 and placed a Repository of
Knowledge within a monument's walls. The Repositories are meant to contain all
of the current knowledge of the Ancients who populated the database at the time.

This time estimate is based on what was determined by the researchers at the Antarctic Outpost as to when the
city-ship Atlantis left Earth for the Pegasus Galaxy. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1")
Several of the events in this section don't have specific dates, but illustrate the development of the civilizations created
by the Ancients and the Ori in their galaxies.
A plague sweeps through the Milky Way Galaxy Ancients ascend Ancients leave
Earth in the cityship Atlantis Ancients and Ori create the second generation of
humanity in three galaxies:
A plague swept through the galaxy and killed many of the Ancients. A similar
plague was created by the Ori Priors in modern times that prompted Daniel to
believe that the Ori had been responsible for this older plague, but that was mere
conjecture and has never been confirmed. A Prior created the "Prior Plague" using
his own DNA as a foundation, which would suggest that the plague that swept
through the Milky Way was a product of the Ancients' own doing as they
experimented with DNA manipulation to achieve ascension. Evidence of the
Ancients' research into altering one's DNA in order to achieve ascension was the
existence of very sophisticated DNA Manipulation Devices, two of which were
found on planets that would later be designated as P3X-367 and P3X-584. (4.06

Some Ancients tried to develop a time machine to undo this tragedy, but they
failed, shut the machine down, and let the end come. (4.06
"Window of Opportunity")
During this time, the Ancients who survived the plague either ascended or left the
galaxy (perhaps in a city-ship like that of Atlantis or by intergalactic Stargates, for
example). Most likely none of the Ancients who left the galaxy were carriers of or
infected with the plague. (6.04
"Frozen", 6.22 "Full Circle" Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1") The Ancients
had been in the process of creating their crowning achievement on the planet Vis
Uban, but they had to stop work because of the plague. Vis Uban, or "Place of
Great Power", was abandoned and its was the last Stargate address listed in the
Ancient Repository of Knowledge that was located on the planet P3R-272, which
has been called the "Place of Our Legacy", probably meaning that this particular
Repository had the complete record of the Ancients before they left the galaxy
(either physically or through ascension) or died of the plague. (2.16 "The Fifth
Race", 7.01 "Fallen Part 1", 7.21 "Lost City Part 1") Ancients on the city-ship
Atlantis in Antarctica left Earth to start over and settled on a planet they named
"Lantia" in the Pegasus Galaxy. They left behind an Ancient woman who stayed at
the Outpost and who was later discovered buried in the ice. She carried the
plague, so it is possible this is why she was left behind. (6.04 "Frozen", Stargate
Atlantis: 1.01
"Rising Part 1")
Rumors of the existence of the Clava Thessara Infinitas, or "Key to Infinite
Treasure", were later established that said that the Ancients stored away vast
riches, including weapons, before their ascension. The Clava Thessara Infinitas is
supposed to lead one to this treasure if one can decode the key. Presumably, this
key is a Stargate address. (10.08
"Memento Mori", 10.16 "Bad Guys", 10.19 "Dominion")
The Ancients (it is unknown which group) used the device on Dakara to seed the
galaxy with new life, thus creating the second evolution of humanity in the galaxy.
This creation most likely was done only to Earth via the Stargate since man is
believed to have evolved first on Earth and then was spread throughout the galaxy
by the Goa'uld through the use of starships or of the Stargate network that the
Ancients left behind. (Stargate: The Movie, 1.03 "The Enemy Within", 8.18
"Threads") At about the same time, the Ori were also ascending and created a
second generation of humanity in their home galaxy. The ascended Ori added to
(or if it didn't exist, created) The Book of Origin about worshiping them as gods
because they discovered that they could gain more power in the ascended planes
through man's relinquishing of his free will (this generation of humanity was most
likely created solely to empower the ascended Ori). The Ori promised to help their
followers to ascend, since these humans couldn't ascend on their own because
they are not advanced enough in their evolution, but this promise was a lie since
the Ori did not intend to share their power. (9.03 "Origin Part 3",
9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1")
The ascended Altera/Ancients joined in a collective called "The Others" that
used their combined power to shield the existence of humanity in the Milky Way
and Pegasus galaxies so that the Ori didn't know that they existed or where to
find them. (9.03 "Origin Part 3") The Ori taught their humanity that the
Altera/Ancients were "evil spirits" and wrote about the rift that separated them
in The Book of Origin. The Altera's mountaintop settlement was called "Ortus
Mallum", and after they left, the Ori followers built their capital city, the City of
the Gods, on the plains nearby. This new settlement came to be known as
Celestis. (The actual time that this city was built is not known.) The City of the
Gods was the training place for men to become the Priors of the Ori and the
abiding place of the ascended Ori. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2",

Ark of Truth)
Several generations of Ori Priors and unbelievers alike searched the ruins of
the Alteran mountaintop settlement. Whenever the Priors found artifacts that
pre-dated the Ori ascension, they deemed them as heretical and then brought
them to the City of the Gods to be burnt in the fires. Heretics searched for
evidence to discredit the Ori's word and intention and gathered up these
artifacts in secret until they could obtain enough proof that would cause even
the most fervent believers to doubt the Ori.

Humans in the Ori's home galaxy were spread apart on different planets and
traveled to and from Celestis using ring transporters. (9.03 "Origin Part 3", 9.19
"Crusade Part 1", Stargate: The Ark of Truth) The Ancients in the Pegasus
Galaxy from the city-ship Atlantis seeded the galaxy with humanity and
unwittingly created their future rival, the Wraith. The Wraith were the result of
the blending of the DNA of the iratus bug and humans. This blending resulted in
the Wraith's need to feed on humans for their own survival. (Stargate Atlantis:

It's possible that more than one city-ship left the Milky Way when Atlantis did
since an identical city-ship was later found on another planet in Pegasus, but it
was in poor condition and almost totally buried only the central tower
protruded above the ground. Some of the humans who populated this planet in
modern times had Ancient DNA and were most likely descendants of humans
and Ancients who lived in that city-ship.
Additionally, there might have been a city-ship associated with the "Lantian city"
built on Praclarush Taonas, a planet the Ancients abandoned as soon as they
learned of their sun's impending death. (10.03
"The Pegasus Project" Stargate Atlantis: 2.15 "The Tower")
 Lantian Ancients built great cities, one of which was on the planet Athos. They
also built research facilities on other planets, including one where they
experimented in mini-drone technology. The original, larger size of these
drones were already operational in their Milky Way Outposts. The Ancients
added another level of security to protect their mini-drone research by
requiring that only someone with a pass key could activate the drones. The
Ancients in Atlantis also continued in their research into accelerating evolution
to achieve ascension. (7.22 "Lost City Part 2" Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising
Part 1", 1.03 "Hide and Seek", 3.14 "Tao of Rodney", 4.14 "Harmony")
Lantian Ancients also decided that they'd interact with their human creation
so that they could exchange knowledge and friendship. Some of this
interaction, however, was much more on the experimental level: they seeded
human settlements on several planets and linked to them with a computer
interface from which the people were given instructions on how to build their
societies. Each planet in this "sociological experiment" had an array of 100
satellites that communicated with a control center in a building on the east side
of Atlantis. The people looked to their "oracle", whom they deemed a deity, for
guidance all the way down to how to dress and how far to develop. This
experiment is in sharp contrast to the non-interference rules of the Lantians'
ascended brethren who had joined in the collective of The Others. (Stargate
Atlantis: 3.15 "The Game")

Praclarush Taonas was made uninhabitable at least one million years ago,
based on Carter's estimate. The Ancient Outpost that remained stayed intact
when its shield held back lava that eventually formed a dome once the molten

Microscopic organisms retreated into an orb because of the death of their

The Asgard's historical record begins:
According to a member of the Lost Tribe of the Asgard, this is when a major
historical era began for the Asgard civilization. In the modern era (within the
last 10,000 years), the remnant of that civilization split into at least two groups
when cloning became the only means for the perpetuation of the species:
those who sanctioned the experimentation on human beings and those who
did not. The group that sanctioned these experiments took advantage of the
Ancient-Wraith War in Pegasus to move about freely while the rest of the
galaxy was in turmoil. The group that didn't sanction such research eventually
were unable to solve their cloning problem and ended their own existence, but
not without passing on their legacy to those of the Stargate Program on Earth.

11 to 30 Thousand Years Ago

Alternate means of survival are explored by races who remained after the Ancients
left the Milky Way Lantia's sun has two CME events:
The humanoid race from the Ida Galaxy known as the Asgard were exploring
deep space in spaceships. The distance was great enough that they had to use
some form of suspended animation to survive. One of the ships was lost, but
rediscovered by the Asgard 30,000 years later. Only one of the travelers
remained intact, and the Asgard hoped to use his DNA as a template to reverse
the degradation that the Asgard race had experienced due to their sole use of
cloning as a way to perpetuate their race. (5.22 "Revelations")
About 15,000 years ago, an Ancient science vessel named Adaris was hit by a
blast of radiation from a coronal mass ejection (CME) from Lantia's sun in
Pegasus. The entire crew was killed except for the pilot, who opened a
hyperspace window just as the ship was hit. He flew back to Lantia, just slightly
ahead of the radiation wave, and arrived in time to warn everyone in the city.
The Ancients raised the city's shield and extended it far enough to protect a
large portion of the planet from the blast. The Ancients recorded such CMEs in
their database and found that the sun went through an unusually turbulent
sunspot cycle every fifteen thousand years. There were only two entries for
these CMEs in the Atlantis database that was accessed in modern times, which
might indicate that these events were part of a new phase of their sun's life
since the Ancients had been there for 5-10 million years and would have
recorded more events if there had been any. No details are available about
what happened when the CME occurred 30,000 years ago, other than there
might still be evidence of mass extinction on the parts of the planet that weren't
protected by Atlantis's shield. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1", 3.12
"Echoes")
Humans were settled on the planet known as Altair, but they had to develop
a way to preserve themselves when the surface of their planet became toxic.
They created android bodies in which to harbor copies of their consciousnesses.
It is possible these humans did not originate from the Milky Way, as it has been
proven that their civilization existed at least 11,000 years ago, which is
approximately 1,000 years before the Goa'uld discovered humanity on Earth
and began spreading man to other planets in the galaxy through the Stargate
 network and by starship. It is also possible that the Ancients seeded more than
one planet 5 to 10 million years ago. (1.19 "Tin Man")

10.1 Thousand Years Ago

According to the records associated with Project Arcturus, the war with the Wraith lasted at least one hundred years.
(Stargate Atlantis: 2.06 "Trinity")
Atlantians awaken the Wraith and start a hundred-year war:
The Ancients in Atlantis awakened the Wraith and a war was started when the
Wraith began to consume human populations (by sucking out their life forces).
Scientists of the city started to develop nanites to kill Wraith from within, but
the nanites exceeded their programming and took on human form. These
human-form Replicators were settled on Asuras and came to be known as
Asurans. It is speculated that the Asurans tried to realize their original
programming by developing a nanovirus that would kill human populations so
that the Wraith would starve to death. The Ancients sent their warships to
Asuras and bombarded the Asuran settlement to destroy them because they
were deemed a failed experiment, but unbeknownst to them, some nanites
survived and began to build their society once more. Very little documentation
concerning the Asurans' existence was left in the Atlantis database. (Stargate
Atlantis: 1.13 "Hot Zone", 3.05 "Progeny", 4.08 "The Seer")
Other types of technology created by the Ancients to fight in the war were
developed: one was meant to accelerate the evolution of an individual to
achieve ascension others were weapons, some of which were abandoned
before they were completed: Lagrange Point Satellite was placed as a last line
of defense for Atlantis and fired a powerful energy beam Project Arcturus on
the Dorandan homeworld was meant to be a powerful energy weapon, but the
technology was untested and ended up killing several of the Ancients and
Dorandans before the Wraith returned to the world and destroyed it a device
that was aimed at killing Wraith from within by creating explosive tumors
turned out to be harmful to everyone in proximity, including Ancients and
humans an underwater drilling platform was designed to draw geothermal
energy into Atlantis, but was abandoned, apparently when the siege on the city
began. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.12 "The Defiant One", 2.06 "Trinity", 3.14
"Tao of Rodney", 3.17 "Sunday", 3.18 "Submersion")
At the height of the war, the Ancients built a hangar facility on the planet
 Taranis where they kept one of their damaged warships, the Hippaforalkus,
named after an Ancient general. The facility's shields were powered by
geothermal energy drawn from the magma chamber in the caldera of a
dormant supervolcano. Because of the dangers of causing the volcano to
reawaken, the Ancients programmed in several failsafes to prevent the shields
from being run continuously at maximum capacity for an extended period of
time. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.19
"Inferno")
The Ancients created a place called "Sanctuary" where they and others could
hide from Wraith attacks inside a time dilation field. The shielded bubble was
powered by a Potentia (what would later be called a Zero Point Module (ZPM)),
and time within it was approximately 250 times faster relative to time outside
of it. The doorway into Sanctuary was only one-way, meaning that once a person
stepped inside, he couldn't turn around and go back out. The main purpose of
the Sanctuary wasn't just for the humans who found it to hide from the Wraith,
but for the last of the Ancients to seek the path to ascension. (Stargate Atlantis:
2.12
"Epiphany")
During the war with the Wraith, an ascended Ancient named Chaya (also
known as Athar) was so enraged at what the Wraith were doing that with a
single thought she destroyed those who were about to attack a planet named
Proculus in the Pegasus Galaxy. This caught the attention of The Others, and
they punished her by limiting her protection to that planet alone. No one coming
to the planet for sanctuary could stay, and she was not allowed to help other
worlds. She loved these people so much and wanted to interact with them, so
from time to time, she'd temporarily retake human form to live among them,
and in modern times, she posed as the priestess to the protective "god" Athar.
Chaya was the name she used when she was the human priestess and Athar was
her ascended form's name. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.14 "Sanctuary")
One by one, Ancient worlds fell to the Wraith. The Ancients abandoned their
great cities, including the one on the planet Athos, which the Athosian humans
called the City of the Ancestors. The Athosians never ventured into the city for
fear that their entry would summon the Wraith.
(Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1")
The Ancients sent out three of their powerful warships deep into Wraith
territory, and they were captured by the Wraith. The Wraith used the ships' ZPMs
to power a cloning facility that produced thousands upon thousands of their
drone soldiers. After that, the war was won for the Wraith because they severely
outnumbered the Ancients and could execute relentless attacks. (Stargate
Atlantis: 4.12 "Spoils of War") The Wraith attacked and weakened another
Ancient warship. The Ancients lost communications, and their shields were also
failing, but they managed to escape into hyperspace, even with engine damage.
Then, they realized that their main drive was giving off deadly radiation, so they
were forced to abandon ship. They had every intention to return to the ship and
repair it, but didn't get the chance. The warship was left to drift in a
two-hundred-year elliptical orbit around a nearby dwarf star.
(Stargate Atlantis: 4.05 "Travelers")
The Ancients began hiding Potentias throughout the galaxy. One such place
was the planet Dagan, where the people worshiped the Ancients, and so when
a Lantian came to the planet with the Potentia and asked that they hide it from
the Wraith, the Sudarian people took the request quite seriously. A brotherhood
of fifteen monks was formed, called the "The Quindosim", whose sole purpose
was to protect the sacred artifact.
Their hope was that one day the Lantians would return and reward the Sudarian
people for completing their task. The Quindosim, which included one "Master
Handler", five "Protectors", and nine "Stone Carriers", knew that the potential
existed that all of them would be lost in Wraith cullings, so they left behind a
series of clues so that the Potentia would continue to be protected, yet still be
retrievable for when the Lantians returned for it. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.16 "The
Brotherhood") The Ancients' battleship Aurora was crippled far from Atlantis, so
the crew placed themselves into stasis chambers for the long trip back to Lantia.
The crew was still in stasis when the galaxy fell to the Wraith. (Stargate Atlantis:
2.09 "Aurora")
One device created by the Ancient named Janus (most probably during the
last few years of the war) actually originally did what it was designed to do:
cause Wraith ships to vaporize when they engaged their hyperdrives. Janus
tested the Attero Device for three days when suddenly Stargates around the
galaxy were exploding when activated. Even though the Attero Device was
designed to interfere with the subspace frequency that only Wraith were
known to use in their hyperdrives, it was somehow interfering with the
operation of active Stargates through unprecedented power buildups. The
Attero Device, which could only be activated with someone with the Ancient
Technology Activation gene, was shut down. Janus stored the key to the Device
in his secret lab in Atlantis and left the generating plant intact on the planet later
designated as M6H-987. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.10 "First Contact Part 1", 5.11 "The
Lost Tribe Part 2")
10 Thousand Years Ago
Goa'uld discover humanity on Earth Atlantian Ancients abandon Atlantis and return
to the Milky Way Ancients and Goa'uld influence man's development:
Ten thousand years ago, in 8000 B.C., a Goa'uld discovered humanity on Earth and
established himself as the Egyptian god Ra. Other Goa'uld followed suit, using
Earth's ancient religions to pose as the physical embodiment of their gods. Humans
became the favored vessels, or hosts, for the Goa'uld symbiotes, but Unas were
also used concurrently. (Stargate: The Movie, 1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1",
1.10 "Thor's Hammer", 2.17 "Serpent's Song", 3.08 "Demons")
The Goa'uld Telchak used as a template an Ancient healing device, now called the
Telchak Device, to construct the sarcophagus, a healing device that helps the
Goa'uld maintain their human host bodies for thousands of years (Ra kept his
young male host from 8000 B.C. all the way through to modern times) and prolong
their own lives. (Stargate: The Movie,
7.11 "Evolution Part 1")
The Goa'uld genetically engineered the Jaffa from humans so that they could
increase the odds that Goa'uld symbiotes would survive the blending with their
future human hosts by giving them a period of incubation in the Jaffa's abdominal
pouches. Jaffa were given long and healthy lives as a benefit, and the male Jaffa
were appointed as the Goa'uld's soldiers. The first Jaffa was created in a ceremony
of implantation held in the temple on Dakara, which is also where it is said that
Anubis first rose from the dead (the means of this resurrection is currently
unknown). (1.02 "Children of the Gods Part 2", 1.03 "The
Enemy Within", 6.10 "Cure", 8.16 "Reckoning Part 1")
The Wraith sieged Atlantis for many years, reducing the Ancients' numbers to
only those who were inside the city itself. After their last transport ship that was
headed for the city for evacuation was destroyed by the Wraith, the city-dwellers
abandoned Atlantis through the Stargate back to Earth. The High Council of
Atlantis, however, was aware that their city would be rediscovered by the Atlantis
Expedition 10,000 years into the future because an alternate version of Dr.
Elizabeth Weir, the Expedition leader, used a timeship to travel to their time and
told them of the city's discovery. The final recording that the Ancients left to
explain their time in Pegasus alludes to their knowledge of future events by
explaining what happened to those who returned to Earth and by mentioning
"their kind" returning to the city. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1", 1.15
"Before I Sleep") The bulk of the message is as follows:
...exchange knowledge and friendship. In time, a thousand worlds bore the fruit
of life in this form. Then one day, our people set foot upon a dark world where a
terrible enemy slept. Never before had we encountered beings with powers that
rivaled our own. In our over-confidence, we were unprepared and outnumbered.
The enemy fed upon the defenseless human worlds like a great scourge, until
finally, only Atlantis remained. This city's great shield was powerful enough to
withstand their terrible weapons, but here we were besieged for many years. In
an effort to save the last of our kind we submerged our great city into the ocean.
The Atlantis Stargate was the one and only link back to Earth from this galaxy, and
those who remained used it to return to that world that was once home. There,
the last survivors of Atlantis lived out the remainder of their lives. This city was
left to slumber, in the hope that our kind would one day return.
The Ancient warship Tria was removed from a battle with Wraith cruisers and
started back to Atlantis until the crew heard that Atlantis was being evacuated for
Earth. They decided to set their course for Earth and started on their way.
(Stargate Atlantis: 3.10 "The Return Part 1") From information he had gathered
from a time traveling Dr. Elizabeth Weir, the Atlantian Janus programmed the
city's failsafes to kick in when the Expedition was detected coming through the
Stargate (10,000 years into the future) so that the city-ship would rise from the
ocean and lighten its energy requirements. The time traveling Weir, however, had
to stay in the abandoned city for the 10,000 years necessary for her to manually
rotate the three ZPMs. She stayed in a stasis chamber and only came out when
she had to switch the power. Only Janus was aware that Weir stayed behind as
the rest of the Lantians abandoned the sunken city. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.15
"Before I Sleep")
Knowing how precious ZPMs would be in the future, Janus gave the time
traveling Weir the Stargate addresses of five places where he knew there to be
ZPMs, including Dagan and a planet later designated as M7G-677. (Stargate
Atlantis: 1.06 "Childhood's End", 1.15 "Before I Sleep", 1.16 "The Brotherhood")
The Pegasus planets that had Lantian "Oracles" were left to fend for
themselves. Some were wiped out by the Wraith, but others continued
on their own with varying degrees of success. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.15
"The Game")
The cruiser commanded by the Wraith Queen who was leading the siege on
Atlantis crashed into Lantia's ocean, but there were survivors who were trapped
inside. A Wraith supply ship carrying human cargo crashed on a planet near the
Lagrange Point Satellite, possibly having been downed by the weapons platform.
This crash also left survivors.
(Stargate Atlantis: 1.12 "The Defiant One", 3.18 "Submersion") Those Ancients
who returned to Earth saw that Earth was harsh and its people were too primitive
by comparison to their advanced society. They had no hope of living among them
as Lantians nor of rebuilding their great society, so they spread themselves out to
many lands, planting a few small seeds of civilization among the first tribes of man.
Others left through the Antarctic Stargate, and the remainder chose to live their
 lives in seclusion and meditation to achieve ascension. (10.03 "The Pegasus
Project")
Among those Ancients who returned to Earth were Janus, who built the time
machine out of a puddle jumper (a small shuttle craft that can fit through a
Stargate) that a future version of Weir used Moros, who was the last High
Councilor of Atlantis and Ganos Lal, who was a teacher. It is believed that Janus
built a new timeship on another planet in the Milky Way. Both Moros and
Ganos achieved ascension through seclusion and meditation. (8.13 "It's Good
To Be King", 10.03 "The
Pegasus Project" Stargate Atlantis: 1.15 "Before I Sleep")
The legend of the Lost City of Atlantis was spread among the Greeks on
Earth (recorded in the writings of Plato) and was written about in the Ancient
language on a stone tablet that was discovered by Ra, who stored it on one of
his planets called Abydos. (6.22 "Full Circle"

The Ancients who returned to Earth from Atlantis also influenced the Romans
(as the "ancient ones" who were the "builders of the roads"), established Latin
as an Earth language (Ancient and Latin are very similar), and infused their DNA
into the populace (there are descendants of these Ancients who are able to
activate Ancient technology that is keyed to Ancient genetic imprints). (2.16
"The Fifth Race", 7.22 "Lost City Part 2", 8.13 "It's Good to Be King" Stargate
Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1")
Daniel speculated that some of the Ancients might have influenced the
religions of the world by making fire an evil or demonic symbol as a way to warn
Earthlings of the nature of the Ori. Fire was the icon of the religion "Origin" and
symbolized warmth, energy, and light. The Ascended Ori, who were the "gods"
of the religion, manifested themselves in a wall of fire and called it "The Flames
of Enlightenment".

Daniel has also speculated that Oma Desala, or an Ancient who knew of her
teachings, influenced the Buddhists, who have "The Eightfold Path to
Enlightenment". Oma Desala's name means "Mother Nature" in an African tribal
language, so it also possible that she influenced the worship of nature or some
forms of the occult, as she was able to manipulate such things as the weather and
fire with her ascended powers. (3.20 "Maternal Instinct", 9.02 "Avalon Part 2")
The Asurans reached their height once again and resumed their programming of
going after the Wraith in Pegasus, but the Wraith figured out how to reprogram
them to stop their attacks. Both the Wraith and the Asurans developed on their
own after that: The Wraith dominated the galaxy while the Asurans thrived in
isolation. (Stargate
Atlantis: 4.03 "Reunion")
Ra planted a Stargate in Giza, Egypt, and used it to spread humanity to other
planets, including Abydos, where he used them as slaves. By this time, the
Ancients' Stargate in Antarctica was most likely inaccessible due to being buried
in the ice. (Stargate: The Movie, 1.18 "Solitudes")

2 to 5 Thousand Years Ago

The Goa'uld reach the height of their power while the Ascended Ancients observe
Kheb and ascension become part of the Jaffa's belief system:
Five thousand years ago, the Goa'uld reached the height of their power in a
 feudal system headed by the oldest and most powerful among them who were
called "System Lords". Ra recorded the Stargate addresses of the planets in the
Goa'uld's domain in a cartouche room on Abydos. Not all of the planets in the
Stargate network were included, however, as it was later discovered when Jack
O'Neill obtained a download from an Ancient Repository of Knowledge that
included all of the Stargate addresses that the Ancients originally had before
the Goa'uld rose to power. (1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1", 2.16 "The Fifth
Race", 3.03
"Fair Game", 9.01 "Avalon Part 1")
By this time, the Great Pyramid and Sphinx existed in Egypt. The Great Pyramid
was used as a landing platform for Ra's mothership, as was the pyramid on Abydos.

Ra's place as the most powerful System Lord was tested when the humans of Earth
revolted and buried the Stargate in 2995 B.C. After this revolt, Ra outlawed writing,
but not before the news of the revolt was recorded on cave walls on the planet
Abydos. The current timeline that includes this revolt was impacted by time
travelers who prevented Ra from taking the Stargate from Earth after he
discovered the plans for the rebellion. (Stargate: The Movie, 8.19 "Moebius Part
1", 8.20 "Moebius
Part 2")
The Goa'uld's slaves built large starships called ha'tak that used naquadah, the
same material used by the Ancients to build the Stargates. The Goa'uld used the
ring transporters as a primary means of appearing like gods by traveling on a beam
of light into their temples. (Stargate:
The Movie, 5.08 "The Tomb")
At least 5,000 years ago, the Ascended Ancient Oma Desala built her temple on
Kheb and started offering to help those who sought the Path to Enlightenment to
ascend. These people weren't evolved far enough to ascend on their own, so Oma
used a person's level of enlightenment, or truth of spirit, as a measure, focusing on
only helping "good" people.
Her doing this was against the rules of non-interference The Others had
established, so she was banished, yet she still continued to do her work. The
Goa'uld learned of Kheb and so did their Jaffa. Oma used her great powers as an
ascended being to scare off the Goa'uld, but the Jaffa embraced the thought of the
afterlife through the Path to Enlightenment, or ascension. (3.20 "Maternal
Instinct", 9.08 "Babylon")
A group of Jaffa warriors called the Sodan sought to find Kheb 5,000 years ago,
but they ended up on another Ancient planet where they began to live in freedom
and to worship the Ancients as gods, something the Ancients strictly denied
because they knew that the power of worshipers could corrupt them like the Ori
had been corrupted. (3.20 "Maternal Instinct", 9.08 "Babylon", 9.10 "The Fourth
Horseman Part 1")
Four thousand years ago, the Oannes being named Nem began missing his mate
Omoroca. He knew that she had gone to Earthto Babylon to help free humans
from the Goa'uld Belus, but he didn't know what had become of her. He did
assume from her absence, though, that Earth fell completely into the hands of
the Goa'uld. Apparently having nothing else to do, he waited and waited for a
messenger to come through the Stargate to tell him "what fate Omoroca." (1.13
"Fire and Water") Possibly three thousand years ago, the Goa'uld Marduk was
imprisoned and punished by his own priests for his particularly brutal ways. The
priests confined him in his sarcophagus and placed a flesh-eating
creature in there with him to torment him indefinitely. (5.08 "The
Tomb")
Two thousand years ago, the Goa'uld Queen Egeria started a movement against Ra
called "Tok'Ra". She believed in a symbiotic relationship between human host and
 symbiote, rather than the symbiote's taking a human host by force and using the
body against the human's will. All of Egeria's offspring were called Tok'ra, and they
waged their own war against the Goa'uld System Lords by infiltration. Ra banished
Egeria by extracting her from her host and putting the symbiote in a canopic jar
with a special lining and sedative that kept her alive. The jar was then built into a
wall of a temple on the planet Pangar. Egeria's offspring assumed she was dead,
and no more Tok'ra could be added to their ranks without her. (4.04 "Crossroads",
6.10 "Cure")
Sometime during their stay on Earth, the Goa'ulds Osiris, Isis, Seth, Hathor,
and Sekhmet were also banished. Osiris and Isis were placed in canopic jars
similar to the one in which Egeria was banished. They were thought to have
been in these jars for several thousand years (possibly 3000 years, based on an
estimate made by archaeologists who studied the jars in modern times).
Several of the artifacts found with the jars in a small pyramid temple in Egypt
were dated to be over 10,000 years old. Seth had tried to overthrow Ra and
had to flee. He went into hiding among various tribes of man on Earth, taking
new hosts every four hundred years or so because he didn't have access to a
sarcophagus (it's also possible that the Stargate had been buried by this time
as well). Written record of his cults go as far back as 1000 B.C. (including in the
legends of the Greeks as the god Typhon). Hathor, Ra's daughter and queen,
was locked inside a sarcophagus and placed in a Mayan tomb in Mexico where
she stayed for almost two thousand years. Sekhmet was one of Ra's enforcers
on Earth, but was banished and preserved in a jar that was later discovered by
Napoleon in Egypt. (1.14 "Hathor", 3.02
"Seth", 4.14 "The Curse", 7.19 "Resurrection")
A race known as the Sekkari had evolved over millions of years (presumably
solely in the Pegasus galaxy), but tens of thousands of years ago, they foresaw
that they would be the cause of their own destruction, so they created and
launched over fifty "seed carriers" to start over. Each of these devices was
programmed for a different destination that would provide them with the
chemical compounds necessary to produce, sustain, and develop life. All units
were connected through subspace communications, included sophisticated
artificial intelligence to guide their missions, and carried repositories
containing the history of the Sekkari peopletheir struggles, their
achievements, and the mistakes that ultimately led to their own destruction.
One of the units suffered a navigation failure and ended up on a planet that
was not suitable for bringing the Sekkari back. Instead, the unit was destined
to sit at the bottom of the ocean for two thousand years waiting for a signal to
reawaken it. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.15 "Remnants")

This time estimate is based the Merlin hologram's message that was discovered in Avalon. In it, he associated King
Arthur to Ambrosius Aurelianus, who fought in the Battle of Mount Badon, which most scholars place at around A.D.

Moros and Ganos Lal begin to actively oppose the Ori:
Once ascended, Moros learned of the Ori and how The Others were shielding
humanity from them. He believed that the Ori were a major threat not only to
the humans, but also to the ascended Ancients who were their rivals. He decided
to give up his ascension and return to human form to develop a weapon that
could be used against ascended beings. He returned to this form with his
knowledge and powers, making him one of the most powerful beings of his time
on Earth. (9.18
 "Arthur's Mantle", 10.03 "The Pegasus Project")
Moros, who became known as Myrddin and then Merlin of Arthurian legends,
reestablished "Avalon" on Earth (the name the Altera gave to their new home
in the Milky Way) and what remains of it exists to this day inside the Glastonbury
Tor in England. This place also has a ring transporter, holographic technology,
and sophisticated interactive artificial intelligence computer systems, as well as
the treasures of
Ambrosius Aurelianus (King Arthur). (9.01 "Avalon Part 1", 9.02
"Avalon Part 2")
Merlin developed a phase-shifting device, later called "Arthur's Mantle", to hide
himself in an alternate dimension to develop his weapon in secret, supposedly
where The Others could not find him. When he left Earth, he left this device
behind in "Avalon". (9.18 "Arthur's Mantle") Merlin started settlements on other
planets, all centered around King Arthur and his Knights of the Round Table,
including the community on a planet called "Camelot", where he had his
sanctuary and left his library of research, historical documents, and prophecies.
He protected his library and his anti-ascended weapon with a sophisticated
security system. (9.18 "Arthur's Mantle", 9.20 "Camelot Part 2", 10.03 "The
Pegasus Project", 10.11 "The Quest Part 2")
The Others sent Ganos Lal to watch Merlin because they feared that he might
be successful in developing this device that could destroy ascended beings.
Ganos, whose name is Morgan Le Fay in Arthurian legends, found Merlin on
"Camelot" and destroyed the weapon, but preserved Merlin in an Ancient stasis
chamber because she agreed with what he was trying to do as far as the Ori
were concerned. Merlin's disappearance prompted Arthur and his Knights to go
on the Quest for the Holy Grail, but in this case, the Holy Grail was a
misinterpretation of the name for the Sangreal, which really was a "Blood
Stone" in the form of a red jewel worn as a pendant. (9.20 "Camelot Part 2",
10.03 "The
Pegasus Project", Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
For well over a thousand years, Merlin lived in that pod, oblivious to the
passage of time and growing old ever so slowly. (10.11 "The Quest Part 2")
Morgan established a private network of Stargates to hide Merlin and his
knowledge of how to build the weapon. She put in place clues so that Arthur and
his Knights could figure out where Merlin was hidden, but none of them
succeeded in their quest. Among the planets visited by the Knights in their quest
were Castiana, Sahal, and Vagonbrei. (9.20

The Others continued to shield humanity, apparently satisfied with
Morgan's destruction of the weapon. (9.03 "Origin Part 3", 10.11 "The Quest

This time estimate is based on Jacob/Selmak's reaction to the news that Anubis had returned to rejoin the
System Lords and on the conversation Osiris had with Yu concerning Anubis's absence. (5.16 "Last Stand Part 2")
Anubis ascends with the help of Oma Desala:
Around this time, Anubis and Telchak were in battle over the Ancient device
now known as the Telchak Device from which Telchak had designed the
sarcophagus. Anubis won the battle, but he didn't find the Device. Telchak had
hidden it in one of his temples in Central America, in modern-day Honduras.
Telchak became known as the Mayan god
Chac, and it is believed that the Device was the basis of the Fountain of
Youth myth because of its healing and rejuvinating powers. (7.11 "Evolution Part
1")
 The System Lords were a select group of Goa'uld who had the greatest power
and the largest domains. Among these System Lords were Ra, Apophis, Yu, and
Anubis, to name but a few. Anubis, however, committed crimes that even the
Goa'uld described as "unspeakable", so they threw him off of the System Lord's
High Council and tried to kill him. (5.16 "Last Stand Part 2")
Apparently Anubis was very interested in powerful Ancient technology (as his
pursuit of the Telchak Device indicates) and by this time, he had discovered
Ancient research on ascension. He fled to Kheb and tricked Oma into ascending
him. As soon as Oma realized what she had done by ascending an evil being
such as a Goa'uld, she tried to undo her work, but The Others stepped in. They
sent him back "halfway" between corporeal existence and ascension, but he
still remained a being of energy with eternal life. They also forbade him to use
any knowledge or power obtained through ascension, unless he otherwise
would have gained it as a Goa'uld. Anubis was out of the System Lord picture
for a thousand years before he made his return. He had to develop a
containment shield that allowed him to interact with those in the corporeal
plane. This containment shield gave him a humanoid appearance, but he had
to wear a cloak that hid his "face". (6.22 "Full Circle", 8.03 "Lockdown", 8.18
"Threads")

ca A.D. 1600
The Others banish Orlin for interfering with the development of the Velonans:
By this time, The Others had long established their rules of noninterference as
far as interacting with the lower planes of existence, but there were still some
members among them who felt a strong attachment to humans. One such
Ancient was Orlin, who didn't want to stand by and watch as the Goa'uld
overtook the Velonans, so he communicated the knowledge of how to build a
powerful weapon for defense. The Velonans were not advanced enough on
their own to take the responsibility of suddenly having such power, so after
they used the weapon on the Goa'uld, they turned it on other planets for
conquest. The Others destroyed the Velonans because they would have been
destroyed by the Goa'uld if Orlin had not interfered and banished Orlin to the
desolate planet, where he remained all by himself for four hundred years. (5.03
"Ascension")

A.D. 1928-1929
The Langford Expedition uncovers the Giza Stargate Time traveler arrives to save the
Stargate:
Professor Langford was leading an archaeological expedition in Giza, Egypt, in
1928, when he discovered a large circular coverstone and a ring-shaped device
underneath it. The coverstone and the device were kept in storage in Egypt until
Langford could get the items shipped to the United States for study. (Stargate:
The Movie, 1.11 "The Torment of
Tantalus", Stargate: Continuum)
Langford's Expedition also found several small artifacts, including a gold
pendant that had the eye of Ra etched on it. Langford's little daughter
Catherine was given the necklace, and she always wore it, believing it was a
good luck charm. (Stargate: The Movie, 1.11 "The
Torment of Tantalus")
 A future alternate timeline version of Cameron Mitchell (the future leader of
SG-1) prematurely arrived in 1929 instead of his target of 1939. He was on a
mission to stop the last of the Goa'uld System Lords,
Ba'al, from intercepting the Stargate on its way from Africa to the United States
in the hold of the cargo ship Achilles. Ba'al intended to rewrite the timeline
with himself as the supreme commander of the galaxy. For ten years, Mitchell
had to make sure that he himself didn't impact the timeline and that he was
aboard the Achilles when Ba'al arrived. (Stargate: Continuum)

A.D. 1931
The Steward Expedition finds the tomb of Osiris and Isis:
The Steward Expedition found a small pyramid temple several miles outside of
present-day Cairo, Egypt. They uncovered several artifacts, including
10,000-year-old ones and the canopic jars into which Osiris and Isis had been
banished. The ship transporting these artifacts to the United States sank off the
coast of New Jersey six months after the discovery. Isis died when her canopic
jar was damaged in the shipwreck, but Osiris's jar remained intact. When the
Expedition members unsealed the tomb, they were exposed to mold spores that
caused them all to die within a year. From all of this misfortune, the artifacts
were said to be cursed because the tomb had been disturbed. (4.14 "The Curse")

A.D. 1939
Stargate is shipped to Boston Time traveler ensures Stargate arrives safely:
Dr. Langford convinced United States President Franklin D. Roosevelt to begin
the study of the device he found in Egypt, which he called the "Doorway to
Heaven". Roosevelt thought that it might have been a weapon, and he wanted
to prevent it from falling into enemy hands before the outbreak of World War
II, so he ordered that the crated artifact be shipped to the United States by the
Merchant Marines aboard the Achilles. Captain Mitchell, not knowing what the
cargo was, plotted a course that zig-zagged across the Atlantic to avoid
U-Boats. The ship, its crew, and its precious cargo arrived safely in Boston after
the intervention of a time traveling version of the captain's grandson, Cameron
Mitchell, prevented the Goa'uld System Lord Ba'al from changing the timeline.
(It was the System Lord's plan to blow up the Achilles to stop the Stargate from
reaching the United States, thus preventing the founding of the Stargate
Program that would see the end of the Goa'uld System Lords' reign.). (1.11

Remarkably, the time traveler was photographed with the captain after the
Achilles safely reached Boston, and this picture was passed down in the family
until it got to Cameron Mitchell in the present day. Even though the time
traveler, the captain, and the crew of Achilles were witness to Ba'al's invasion
and the Achilles was damaged with the unstable vortex of the Stargate's
wormhole, the secrets of the Stargate were kept so that the "original" timeline
was preserved. (Stargate: Continuum)

A.D. 1945
First modern man from Earth travels through the Stargate to another world
Pangarans find Egeria:
Langford's research team had to attach power and dial the Stargate manually
because they didn't have the Dial Home Device (DHD). It was later revealed that
the Russians confiscated it from the Germans after the end of the war. (1.11 "The
Torment of Tantalus", 4.07 "Watergate") One of the members of Langford's
research team was Professor Ernest
Littlefield, a young archaeologist who was engaged to be married to Langford's
21-year-old daughter Catherine. Littlefield was so preoccupied with studying the
Stargate that he failed to ask Langford for Catherine's hand in marriage. He
determined that the cartouche on the coverstone was actually a six-point
location in space and that the device was capable of going to lots of places
because there were more than six symbols on it. Langford dismissed this theory,
instead advocating that
"doorway to heaven" could mean that the device kills. (1.11 "The
Torment of Tantalus")
The team randomly dialed the Stargate and succeeded at making a
connection. Littlefield volunteered to go through it. He was fitted in a diver's
suit, but after he passed through the event horizon, the Stargate deactivated,
and his umbilical was severed. No one knew what had happened to him, but
they all assumed that he was dead. The Stargate was packed into a storage crate
and placed in an armory in Washington, D.C. The research film and papers were
packed away into boxes and stored in the Pentagon. Langford never told
Catherine that the Stargate had been activated and that Ernest had stepped
through it. Instead, he told her that Ernest died in an explosion at the lab.
Catherine, brokenhearted, never married. (1.11 "The Torment of Tantalus",

At about this same time (perhaps closer to A.D. 1950), the people of the planet
Pangar found Egeria's canopic jar and began conducting research on the
symbiote. They found that the Goa'uld have a natural healing property that they
could exploit. They forced the queen to produce larvae, which they in turn
began to use as an ingredient in a drug they called "Tretonin". They developed
a usable formula by 1970 and began taking the drug that gave them perfect
health. Unfortunately, after continual use, the drug destroyed their immune
systems, and the users had to stay on the drug or die. Research and
development continued until they met SG-1 during its sixth year of operation.

ca A.D. 1969-1994
Although Stargate: The Movie was released in 1994, the series Stargate SG-1 held it as canon that Daniel
Jackson and Jack O'Neill went through the Stargate to Abydos one year prior to the series' premiere on Showtime on
27 July 1997. Several dates in this section are derived from the 1997 premiere date and from what was said about the
study of the Stargate in the pilot "Children of the Gods". It should also be noted that the location of the Stargate in
the movie was Creek Mountain, whereas it was established in the pilot that the Stargate had been housed in Cheyenne
Mountain when Daniel reopened it.
Catherine Langford resumes the study of the Giza Stargate:
Catherine Langford began to study the Stargate once again using her father's
research notes, which he told her were all that existed to document his project.
She still wasn't told that her father's team activated the "Doorway to Heaven" back
in 1945 and that Ernest Littlefield had gone through it. The study of the device was
slow, but Catherine recognized the need to provide it with stable power to unlock
the inner ring. (1.11 "The Torment of Tantalus", 2.21 "1969")
Langford's interest in starting up the study of the device once again might have
been sparked by a visit from a young man claiming to be the son of one of her
father's colleagues. He and the young woman who accompanied him discussed
the discoveries made by the Langford Expedition and asked about the current
whereabouts of the device.
Amazingly, this young couple were actually the time travelers Dr. Daniel Jackson
and Captain Samantha Carter, who had been accidentally sent back to 1969 by the
Stargate and needed to get back to their own time where they were members of
SG-1 in the Stargate Program. (2.21

Starting in 1982, Catherine's research team began to develop a computerized
system to dial the Stargate instead of having to do it manually. (1.01 "Children of
the Gods Part 1")
Catherine was not given access to her father's team's research that was classified
and filed away in the Pentagon when her project came under the control of the Air
Force around 1985. Eventually, the project, called Project Giza, was overseen by
General West and was kept deep in the bowels of Cheyenne Mountain in Colorado
Springs, Colorado. Catherine was promised complete autonomy in the project,
even though it was being overseen by the US military. The research team
continued to develop a computer program that would spin the inner ring and lock
the chevrons on the Stargate, but they never could get the device to activate
because they failed to recognize the need for the seventh chevron (to indicate the
point of origin to plot a course to the point in space defined by the other six
symbols in the Stargate address from the coverstone).

Air Force Captain Samantha Carter held a doctorate in Theoretical Astrophysics
and was assigned to Catherine's team to study the Stargate sometime around
1994. Most of her time was spent at the Pentagon trying to convince the Air Force
to continue the study of the device, even though they still didn't know what it
was. This project was later called the Stargate Program after Dr. Daniel Jackson
solved the riddle of the device's function. (1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1", 1.11
"The
Torment of Tantalus", 2.09 "Secrets")
Also around 1994, Catherine brought in new team members to translate the
coverstone and study the device in Cheyenne Mountain. (Stargate:

Dr. Daniel Jackson reopens Earth's Stargate Ra is killed Abydos is freed Daniel
marries Sha're and stays on Abydos:
Finally, after two years of study by a team of linguists who were assigned to
translate the coverstone, Catherine Langford recruited the young archaeologist
 Dr. Daniel Jackson. Langford had read about Dr. Jackson's theories on the Great
Pyramid's having been built long before the majority of the archaeological
community believed, basing this conclusion on the writing forms found inside
the Pyramid. She believed that if anyone could translate the coverstone
correctly, it would be Jackson, and that he'd be the one to figure out what the
Stargate really was. (Stargate: The Movie, 1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1",
1.11
"The Torment of Tantalus")
Langford gave Jackson a plane ticket to Colorado, and having nowhere else to
go, he decided to take the trip. Catherine had told him that he'd have a chance
to prove his theories correct and that made him curious. Langford showed
Jackson the coverstone and he fixed the translations immediately, telling them
that the hieroglyphs told of a "Stargate", not a "Doorway to Heaven". Using this
information, he translated the cartouche as a Stargate address represented by
symbols that were depictions of constellations. He figured out that the Stargate
went to other points in space by the use of the six-symbol address and the point
of origin without having yet laid eyes on the actual Stargate itself.

Once he was given access to the Stargate, Daniel figured out the point of origin
symbol and the team successfully dialed the Stargate to the address on the
cartouche, which happened to be that of Abydos, Ra's planet. (Stargate: The
Movie)
Colonel Jack O'Neill led a team, which also included Dr. Jackson, through the
Stargate to Abydos, where they met the Abydonians, descendants of ancient
Egyptians whom Ra brought through the Stargate. They spoke Ancient
Egyptian, a language that was no longer spoken on Earth, but that Daniel
quickly picked up after a native woman, Sha're, introduced the sounds to him.
Sha're showed Daniel the records of their people's enslavement that was
drawn on the walls of a cave system. (Stargate: The Movie)
While the expedition was on Abydos, Ra came to gather the latest yields from
the naquadah mines. Ra's guards killed Daniel and imprisoned the rest of the
team's members, including O'Neill. Ra was curious about the Ra necklace that
Catherine had given to Daniel for "good luck", so he revived him in the
sarcophagus. Daniel spoke with Ra in Ancient Egyptian, and Ra told Daniel that
he planned to send to Earth and detonate the bomb that O'Neill had brought
with him in case he found a threat. (Stargate: The Movie)
With the help of the Abydonians, especially a group of boys led by
Sha're's brother Skaara and her father Kasuf, the Earthmen vanquished Ra.
O'Neill and Jackson sent the bomb that Ra had armed and enhanced with the
naquadah to Ra's ship by using the ring transporter that linked the temple
directly to Ra's ship. The ship blew up in Abydos's orbit. Little did they know that
their destruction of Ra would throw the System Lords into chaos as they vied for
control of Ra's vast territory, which included Earth. (Stargate: The Movie, 1.01
"Children of the Gods Part 1")
Daniel and Sha're fell in love, so Daniel decided to stay with her on Abydos
while O'Neill and his surviving team members returned to Earth through the
Stargate. After they left, Daniel buried the Abydos Stargate.

Col. O'Neill had been retired from the Air Force at the time he was called by
General West to oversee the Stargate Program (as it was later called). This
resignation was at the heels of O'Neill's son's tragic accidental death (he shot
himself with O'Neill's service revolver). O'Neill had been quite suicidal after his
son's death, but the mission to
Abydos renewed his purpose. Even so, he once again resigned from the
 Air Force after his return to Earth. O'Neill returned the Ra necklace to Catherine
with a message from Daniel: "Tell Catherine this brought me luck." (Stargate:
The Movie, 1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1", 1.11
"The Torment of Tantalus")
After about a month on the planet, Daniel discovered Ra's map room with all
of the Stargate addresses of the planets in the Goa'uld's domain. Curious, he
unburied the Stargate and tried out some of the addresses, but couldn't make
a lock. He figured that these Stargates had been either destroyed or buried just
like the one on Earth had been. Knowing the dangers that reopening the
Stargate could bring, Daniel trained Skaara and other Abydonians to keep a
36-hour watch by arming them with the
Earth weapons that O'Neill's team left behind. (1.01 "Children of the Gods Part
1")

ca A.D. 1997-1998
This time estimate corresponds to Season One of Stargate SG-1.
Stargate Command is established, begins active use of the Stargate, and learns more
about the Ancients SG-1 meets the Nox:
It took fifteen years and three super-computers for Langford's team to develop
a computerized dialing system for the Stargate, even while they didn't realize
the device's true function. After the first team went through to Abydos, Capt.
Samantha Carter tried to get the Stargate to connect to different destinations,
but they never got a lock. After all of these failures, it was determined that the
Stargate went only to Abydos. In order to protect Daniel and the Abydonians,
O'Neill lied on his report that the Abydos Stargate was destroyed with the bomb
he took with him (which he actually used against Ra), so the government began
to downsize the project. General West placed Major General George Hammond,
a man close to retirement, in charge of the base. Carter was asked to research
alternative applications for the Stargate, including using the wormhole for time
travel. (1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1"
2.21 "1969")
The Air Force was in the process of withdrawing personnel from the Cheyenne
Mountain facility when the Goa'uld System Lord Apophis came through the
Stargate with his Jaffa soldiers, kidnapped a female sergeant, and killed several
guards before retreating to the planet Chulak. Major General George Hammond
reactivated Col. Jack O'Neill to retrieve Dr. Daniel Jackson from Abydos, but
Apophis visited there next and took Daniel's wife Sha're and her brother Skaara.
The First Prime of Apophis helped the humans escape from Apophis's prison on
Chulak.
O'Neill requested that Teal'c join his team as an expert in the Goa'uld
and Jaffa. Teal'c pledged allegiance to Earth, hoping that his new allies would help
bring freedom to his people. (1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1", 1.02 "Children
of the Gods Part 2", 1.03 "The Enemy Within") After Daniel explained that the
Stargate could go to other places with new addresses calculated based on stellar
drift, Stargate Command was activated and created nine teams to explore the
galaxy for allies and technology that could help in the fight against the Goa'uld,
as well as to rescue Sha're and Skaara, who were now hosts to Goa'uld symbiotes.
(1.01 "Children of the Gods Part 1", 1.02 "Children of the Gods Part 2") SG-1 met
the Nox, an advanced humanoid race that are quite petite and that are pacifists.
Each individual lives to be well over 400 years old, and they have the ability to
resurrect someone by channeling the life force gathered from the surrounding
nature. They can activate the Stargate without any apparent use of technology
and render objects invisible. They live in a city that floats in the sky and in simple
grass huts when they're communing with nature. They perceive humans as "very
young". It is later learned that the Nox were part of the Alliance of the Four Races
with the Ancients, Asgard, and Furlings. (1.08 "The Nox", 1.11 "The Torment of
Tantalus", 2.16 "The Fifth Race") On the planet P3X-972/PB2-908, SG-1 found
Ernest Littlefield alive after 50 years in total seclusion and uncovered Heliopolis,
the meeting place for the Alliance of the Four Races, which included the Ancients,
the Nox, the Asgard, and the Furlings. It has not yet been established when this
alliance was formed, but the design construction of the Library device itself
implies that the alliance was several million years ago when the Ancients were
still in the galaxy and building the Stargate network. (1.11 "The Torment of

Ernest Littlefield and Catherine Langford were reunited, and their love for each
other was strongly renewed. (1.11 "The Torment of Tantalus") SG-1 traveled to
the planet Oannes, where Nem captured Daniel because he knew about Babylon
and cuneiform writing. Nem implanted false memories of Daniel's death into the
minds of the rest of the team so that he could have Daniel all to himself without
interruption. Daniel and Nem found that both had something in common: they
had lost their mates to the Goa'uld. Daniel recalled an old text he had read years
before with the aid of a mind probe and finally, after four thousand years, Nem
learned that Belus had killed Omoroca while she attempted to free humans of
Earth from the Goa'uld. Nem let Daniel go home once he knew her fate. (1.13
"Fire and Water")
Archaeologists uncover Hathor in her sarcophagus in a Mayan temple.
Once released, she killed the two archaeologists and made her way to the Stargate
in Cheyenne Mountain, where she tried to reestablish herself as a Goa'uld Queen
with Daniel as her "beloved" pharoah (his seed would be used to help her
offspring blend with their new human hosts on Earth) and O'Neill as her first prime
(by converting him into a Jaffa). Her plans failed and she escaped through the
Stargate to Chulak. Unfortunately, her sarcophagus was destroyed in her escape.
(1.14 "Hathor") Stargate Command discovered the Antarctic Stargate by accident.
There were frozen Serpent Guards of the Goa'uld buried in the ice near the DHD,
which implies that sometime within the last 10,000 years, the Goa'uld attempted
to send troops to Earth, unaware of the first Stargate located there. Apparently,
it was by some fluke that this Stargate was activated by the Goa'uld at this time
rather than the one in Egypt, since both of them held precedence due to each
having a DHD attached. (It is possible that the Goa'uld were testing to see if the
Giza Stargate was still accessible after the rebellion.) The power crystal in the DHD
to the Antarctic Stargate died soon after the discovery, which prompted Carter to
later calculate the age of the Stargate to be as much as 50 million years. (1.18
"Solitudes", 4.07 "Watergate", 6.04 "Frozen") The Antarctic Stargate and DHD
were put in storage at Area 51 in Nevada. (1.18 "Solitudes", 2.14 "Touchstone")
ca A.D. 1998-1999

The Tok'ra are revealed The Asgard identify the Ancients as the builders of the
Stargates:
Carter was taken as the host of Jolinar of Malkshur, a Tok'ra, against her will
while helping a planet evacuate from a Goa'uld attack. The System Lords sent
an assassin after Jolinar, and he followed her back to Earth through the
Stargate. Teal'c killed the assassin, and Jolinar died saving Carter's life. From
that moment on, Carter had some of the memories of Jolinar and the ability to
use Goa'uld technology, including the ribbon device and healing device. This
encounter with Jolinar revealed the existence of the Tok'ra. Her memories
helped the team track down the secret Tok'ra base, and Carter saved her dying
father's life by persuading him to become a host to a Tok'ra symbiote named
Selmak. With Jacob Carter/Selmak acting as the primary liaison, the Tok'ra
became allies with the Tau'ri (what the Goa'uld and Jaffa call the humans of
Earth, the planet they called "The First World") and the Rebel Jaffa in the fight
against the Goa'uld. (2.02 "In the Line of Duty", 2.06 "Thor's Chariot", 2.11 "The
Tok'ra Part 1", 2.12 "The Tok'ra Part 2", 3.02 "Seth")
Carter and Daniel met Thor of the Asgard as he presented himself in his true
form (like a Roswell grey, as Carter put it). SG-1 already knew about the Asgard,
but had never seen their true form. The Asgard were named mostly after Norse
gods and had studied humans of Earth for a long time. They also felt quite
protective of humanity, especially when it came to the way humans were being
treated by the Goa'uld. (1.10 "Thor's Hammer", 2.06 "Thor's Chariot", 2.16 "The
Fifth Race", 3.03 "Fair Game")
Dr. Daniel Jackson's theory that the "ancient ones" built the Stargates and not
the Goa'uld was substantiated when Col. Jack O'Neill met the
Asgard. O'Neill had taken a download into his mind of an Ancient
Repository of Knowledge while on P3R-272, and inputted all the Stargate
addresses (created by the Ancients when they built the network) into the
dialing computer at Stargate Command. He also drew a detailed schematic of
the DHD and revealed the use of an eighth chevron to dial to another galaxy.
He used the Ancient knowledge to build a power source needed to dial the
great distance to another galaxy and traveled to the Asgard's homeworld in the
Ida Galaxy. The Asgard told O'Neill about the Alliance of the Four Races and
that the Ancients had moved on a long time ago. The Asgard also removed the
knowledge from O'Neill's mind because it was killing him and sent him back to
Earth through the Stargate. The fact that O'Neill learned about the Asgard
Stargate from the Ancient Repository probably indicates that the Alliance had
been established during the time before the Ancients left the galaxy due to the
plague, which was at least 5-10 million years ago.

Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1")
SG-1 was accidentally sent back to the year 1969 when their wormhole was bent
by a solar flare. The Ancients were aware of the possibility of traveling in time by
such conditions, so they programmed the DHD and Stargate to prevent a wormhole
from being formed during a solar flare event. Earth's Stargate, however, didn't have
a DHD attached to it, so the wormhole could be formed without regard to these
conditions. In order to find the Stargate in 1969, Daniel and Carter disguised
themselves and visited Catherine Langford. She told them the location of the
Stargate, and it wasn't long after their visit that Catherine resumed her study of it.
The team returned home by using the Stargate to form wormholes that were bent
by solar flares. (2.21 "1969")
Hathor captured SG-1's O'Neill, Daniel, and Carter and tried to use them to
gather information on the current state of affairs since her time on Earth about
 2,000 years ago. Teal'c called for a group of Jaffa to help him rescue the Tau'ri
and start the Jaffa Rebellion to overthrow the Goa'uld. O'Neill killed Hathor and
the team returned to Earth to resume their missions through the Stargate. (2.22
"Out of Mind Part 1", 3.01 "Into the Fire Part 2")

ca A.D. 1999-2000

Sha're dies Oma Desala and Kheb are discovered Asgard reveal the existence of the
Replicators:
The Tok'ra ask for help in locating Seth on Earth. They found him as the leader
of a cult near Seattle, Washington. Carter, after having been a temporary host
to a Tok'ra symbiote and gaining the naquadah in her blood needed to operate
Goa'uld technology, killed Seth with a ribbon device. Obviously repulsed that
she could operate the device, that was the first and the last time she used it.
(3.02 "Seth")
While the host to the symbiote named Amaunet, Daniel's wife Sha're was
impregnated against her will. She bore a son, but Amaunet knew that the child
would be hunted down and killed by the other System Lords because he, as a
human, held the combined memories of the Goa'uld symbiotes that
"parented" him. With this genetic memory, the child could threaten their
positions of power, and if Apophis planned to take the child as his new host, he
would become the most powerful of them all. Their fears about Apophis's
intentions were correct, and Amaunet gave her child to her most trusted aide
to hide him where he'd be safe: Kheb. (3.10 "Forever in a Day")
Sha're and Daniel didn't have much time together at the end of her life, but she
was able to tell him that the boy had been taken to Kheb and that she wanted
him to find the baby to keep him safe. In a most tragic turn of events, Teal'c
killed Sha're when Amaunet was attempting to kill
Daniel with a ribbon device. (3.10 "Forever in a Day")
SG-1 played a key role in saving Skaara, Sha're's brother. The Goa'uld symbiote
was removed from him by the Tok'ra, and Skaara returned home to Abydos.
(3.15 "Pretense", 6.22 "Full Circle")
It wasn't until Master Bra'tac of the Jaffa and Daniel began to share
mythological stories that they figured out where Kheb was located. Bra'tac told
a story about Kheb that his father told him: it was a place feared by the Goa'uld,
but sacred to the Jaffa who sought the afterlife after the ability to carry a
symbiote had passed. This legend was the foundation of the Jaffa's belief in the
Path to Enlightenment, or ascension. Unfortunately, the location of Kheb had
been lost over the thousands of years that the story was told. Daniel shared that
in Earth's mythology, Kheb was the place where Osiris hid from Seth. Bra'tac
immediately lit up with excitement, knowing that story as having to do with a
planet located in the Lok'na Core. They knew that it would be the only planet in
that region of space that the Goa'uld would not have placed in their domain, but
the Ancients would have. (3.20 "Maternal Instinct")
Indeed, the two had put the pieces together and found Kheb. There, they met
a monk who talked like a Zen Buddhist who tested their hearts and intentions.
Master Bra'tac felt renewed and left Daniel with the monk to discuss Sha're's
son, the Harsesis. Apophis's Jaffa troops arrived and began to storm the temple,
but the monk stood in their way, and they killed him with a staff weapon blast.
The monk's ascension was the first one witnessed by SG-1 and Bra'tac, and they
watched in awe as the monk's body burst into radiant light and then completely
disappeared, leaving only his robes behind. (3.20 "Maternal Instinct")
Eventually, Oma showed herself to Daniel and gave him access to the child, but
he realized that he didn't have the powers that she had demonstrated to keep
 the boy safe (such as sending lightning bolts to down death gliders and Jaffa,
controlling fire, levitating objects). Daniel relinquished the baby into Oma's care,
and she took the child from Kheb through the Stargate. (3.20 "Maternal
Instinct")
The Asgard discovered the Replicators, bug-like mechanical creatures, on an
isolated planet and took some for study without understanding the danger they
posed. They became, as Thor put it, "a plague on our galaxy that is annihilating
everything in its path." SG-1 helped Thor survive a Replicator attack on his
starship, but they beamed the Stargate from the
SGC to Thor's ship in order to escape the ship's destruction. This left the
SGC without a Stargate, but General Hammond quickly ordered that the Antarctic
Stargate be brought out of storage to take the Giza Stargate's place. (3.22
"Nemesis Part 1", 4.01 "Small Victories Part 2") Thor's ship crashed into the
Pacific Ocean and one of the "bugs" survived on Earth, where it quickly took over
a Russian submarine. Fortunately, the infestation was destroyed before more of
the Replicators were created (they consumed mostly metals to create more of
themselves), but it also meant that the Giza Stargate was lost in the ocean. (3.22
"Nemesis Part 1", 4.01 "Small Victories Part 2")
The Russians retrieved the Giza Stargate from the ocean and began their own
Stargate Program without the knowledge of the United States. Former Air Force
Colonel and NID Agent Harry Maybourne committed treason when he provided
the Russians with the information they needed to get their program started.

ca A.D. 2000-2001
This time estimate corresponds to Season Four of Stargate SG-1.
Stargate Command learns of the plague that killed many Ancients a long time ago
Osiris takes Sarah Gardner as a his new host Daniel gets a visit from an Ascended
Being:
SG-1 met an alien archaeologist on the abandoned Ancient planet designated
as P4X-639 where the Ancients had tried to build a time machine in order to
escape the plague. Their efforts failed, but Malikai wasn't aware of this history
and continued to try to use it to go back and see his deceased wife once again.
His activating the machine caused time to loop every ten hours on fourteen
planets, including Earth.
Eventually, Malikai was convinced to turn the machine off. This was the first
mention of the plague as it applied to the Ancients. (4.06 "Window of
Opportunity")
Stargate Command discovered that the Russians were conducting their own
Stargate Program when the SGC's Stargate was unable to dial out. The Russian's
Stargate was the primary Stargate on Earth because it had a DHD attached to it.
They had connected to a world from which they couldn't disconnect. The entire
staff at the Russian's command center in Siberia were killed when the
commander issued a "self-destruct" protocol (poisonous gas) after the facility
was taken over by energy beings that lived in the water of the planet that they
were investigating. After this situation, the Russians couldn't justify having their
own program, but they kept the Giza Stargate anyway. (4.07 "Watergate") The
sunken Steward Expedition's ship was found and the artifacts were sent to
Chicago where archaeologists could study them. Unfortunately, one of these
archaeologists, Dr. Sarah Gardner, opened the canopic jar that contained the
Osiris symbiote and became his new host. Sarah and Daniel Jackson had been
lovers when they studied together in Chicago before Daniel became part of the
Stargate Program. He was unable to free Sarah of the symbiote before she left
Earth in a personal transport starship that was buried near Osiris's temple. (4.14
 "The Curse") After Oma took Sha're's son, she helped him to ascend. She also
buried his Goa'uld genetic memories, considered to be the thoughts of a
thousand Hitlers, deep into his subconscious mind, telling him that the memories
were too strong to resist and the best way to win was to "deny it battle". This
philosophy reflected The Others' rules of noninterference: they knew that the
power that the Ori were gathering through their worshipers corrupted them, so
it was better not to interact with humanity at all so that man's worship could be
avoided. Shifu, whose name means "light", told Daniel that he needed to choose
a new path concerning handling the Goa'uld, rather than forcing the boy to
remember the genetic memories. He then ascended and left through the
Stargate, and that was probably the last time Daniel ever saw him. (4.17
"Absolute Power")

ca A.D. 2001-2002
This time estimate corresponds to Season Five of Stargate SG-1.
Ascended Ancient Orlin retakes human form and ascends again Dr. Daniel Jackson
ascends Anubis obtains the knowledge of the Asgard, some of which is based on
Ancient knowledge:
When Stargate Command sent teams to Velona, the Ascended Ancient Orlin,
who was all alone in his banishment, followed them back through the Stargate
to Earth. He was afraid that they'd turn on the weapon he had helped the
Velonans build. His banishment was his punishment for giving the knowledge
to build the weapon to the Velonans, who weren't prepared to use it. The
Others destroyed the Velonans because Orlin had interfered with the Goa'uld
who was about to destroy them and then banished Orlin to the desolate planet,
where he served his term for 400 years by the time SG-1 encountered him.
(5.03 "Ascension")
Orlin was attracted to Maj. Samantha Carter from the moment he laid eyes on
 her and followed her home. There, he shared with her his essence by
enveloping her with his energy form. This act was extremely intimate, but Orlin
was not satisfied. He decided to return to human form so that he could be with
her as a normal human man. While they got to know each other, Orlin proved
that being ascended does not give one instant knowledge of everything
because he was not aware of Oma Desala nor of her work, which she had been
doing during his time as an ascended being. He assumed that she was an
outcast like himself. (5.03
"Ascension")
Carter's and Orlin's relationship couldn't be pursued because the NID tracked him
down at her house and wanted to take him into custody because of the
knowledge he held. Orlin built a small personal-sized Stargate in Carter's
basement and went back to Velona to stop SG-16 from powering up the weapon.
Carter followed. (5.03 "Ascension") When Orlin tried to stop the testing of the
weapon, he was shot by SGC personnel. He had succeeded in disconnecting the
naquadah reactor from the weapon, but the reactor was about to overload. As
Orlin laid dying, The Others arrived, manifested in a dark storm cloud, and
accepted him back into the collective. Orlin ascended and then removed the
reactor where it could explode safely in the distance. Orlin's acceptance back into
the collective demonstrated that The Others could forgive one of their own if he
demonstrated his sincerity and worthiness. Orlin had done so by sacrificing
himself to save lives. (5.03 "Ascension") The Tok'ra removed the Goa'uld symbiote
Qetesh from her host Vala Mal Doran. Her own people couldn't distinguish the
difference between a Goa'uld and its host, so Vala was forced to leave her home
planet when they spat on her and stoned her. She fled to P8X-412 where she
posed as the poor peasants' goddess Qetesh, who already had control of the
planet for at least three years. Although she took advantage of the people's
adoration, she began to form a genuine bond with them. Afterwards, she left
them to pursue a life as a thief and con-artist, talents she had learned from her
father Jacek. Before Qetesh was overthrown and removed by the Tok'ra, she was
involved in a treasure hunt with the Goa'uld Athena. They were searching for the
treasure of the Ancients, the Stargate address for which was encoded on the Clava
Thessara Infinitas. Qetesh claimed to have the code to the tablet, but she was
removed from Vala before revealing it to Athena. (9.05 "The Powers That Be",
10.08
"Memento Mori", 10.18 "Family Ties")
SG-1 and a Russian Stargate team fought against the Goa'uld Marduk in a ziggurat
on the planet P2X-338 after he was accidentally let out of his sarcophagus by a
Russian archaeological team who were searching for a device called the Eye of
Tiamat that was supposedly quite powerful. The symbiote Marduk survived by
first taking the flesh-eating creature as a host and then transferring to one of the
Russians. The team escaped using a ring transporter that was connected to
another building in the temple complex. Marduk and his new host were killed
when the ziggurat collapsed in an explosion that SG-1 set with C-4. The Eye was
buried with him in the rubble. (5.08 "The Tomb")
SG-1 found an android on a planet that had long been abandoned. They took her
back to the SGC and reactivated her, and in doing so, discovered that she was the
originator of the Replicators, which she programmed as toys that protected her.
Her world was destroyed a very long time ago when the Replicators broke loose
from her control, killed everyone, and then left. Unfortunately, the Replicators
started to take over the base, and Reese had to be neutralized in order to shut
the bugs down. Stargate Command gave the remains of Reese, who was
irreparably damaged, to the Asgard so that they could find out how to
shut down the Replicators that were destroying their worlds. (5.19
"Menace")
 Daniel caught Oma Desala's attention when he selflessly exposed himself to a
lethal dose of radiation in order to prevent an experiment from going critical on
the planet Kelowna (now known as Langara). His sacrifice meant the saving of
thousands of lives, so as he laid dying in excruciating pain from radiation
poisoning, Oma offered him ascension. He took the offer, not knowing everything
there was to know about the rules, since Oma, an outcast and rule-breaker
herself, was his only guide. He told Jack O'Neill that he felt he could do more as
an ascended, however, which indicated that he clearly intended to interfere with
events in the corporeal plane as Oma had been doing for thousands of years. (5.21
"Meridian")
After Daniel's ascension, SG-1 discovered that the Asgard perpetuated their
race through cloning. They had done this for thousands of years, creating a type
of immortality by transferring their consciousnesses into "empty" clone bodies.
As a matter of fact, cloning could have been used for as long as 30,000 years,
the age of one of their ancestors who was discovered still in stasis. The Asgard
thought that maybe his physiology could be used to help them overcome some
of the cloning difficulties that they were experiencing that were making them
a dying race. (5.22
"Revelations", 8.08 "Covenant")
Anubis captured Thor of the Asgard and probed his mind with a very
sophisticated piece of technology that even Thor thought did not exist. The
probe transferred all of Thor's knowledge into Anubis's mothership's computer
systems. Ever since Thor could remember, which could be for tens of thousands
of years, the Asgard had studied a portion of an Ancient Repository of
Knowledge and had learned much from it. But because the knowledge
contained in the Repositories is vast, their studies had only begun to scratch the
surface, so Anubis didn't get an entire copy with the probe however, he did get
enough from Thor to create clones, to use Asgard beaming technology, and to
produce sophisticated Asgard holograms. Anubis lost control of his ship and had
to abandon it when Thor's consciousness invaded it and took over. The Asgard's
consciousness was rescued by SG-1 and transferred into a new clone body.

Ancient woman is discovered in Antarctica Daniel Jackson interferes while ascended
Anubis destroys Abydos Oma ascends the Abydonians The search begins for the Lost
City of the Ancients:
True to his Goa'uld nature, Anubis used left over Ancient technology to further
his position among the System Lords. He had promised that he'd deal a serious
blow to the Tok'ra and Tau'ri. Anubis found an Ancientbuilt Stargate Destroyer
(for lack of a better term) that caused an energy build-up in a target Stargate's
capaciters that would result in a massive explosion. Such an explosion,
enhanced by the naquadah in the
Stargate's composition, would wipe out life on the planet. Unfortunately,
Stargate Command had no way of stopping the explosion, so they removed the
Stargate from Earth, and it exploded a safe distance away. This was the end of
the Antarctic Stargate. The Russians leased the Giza Stargate to the Air Force so
that the Stargate Program could continue.
Teal'c's son Rya'c destroyed the Ancient weapon. (6.01 "Redemption
Part 1", 6.02 "Redemption Part 2")
An Ancient woman was discovered in the ice in Antarctica, not too far from where
the Stargate had been found several years prior. She miraculously revived when
the ice around her began to thaw. Some of her brain functions were impaired,
but she managed to learn how to speak some English and to communicate with
the research team and SG1. Ayiana, as she was named by the researchers,
demonstrated advanced human abilities, especially that of healing through touch.
Her genetic make-up was similar to modern man's, but there were notable
differences. Ayiana carried the plague that killed many of the Ancients, and she
exposed the members of the team to it. She was able to heal all of them except
for Jack O'Neill before she died. (6.04 "Frozen") The discovery of Ayiana led to the
conclusion that modern humans were not the first evolutionary form of humans
in the galaxy and that the Ancients lived on Earth millions of years ago. (6.04
"Frozen" Stargate
Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1")
Because Jack O'Neill had not been cured of the plague at the time of Ayiana's
death, he approved to have a Tok'ra symbiote implanted to heal him. The
arrangement was just for the time needed to heal O'Neill and to obtain the latest
intelligence that the Tok'ra Kanan had gathered on his last mission. Once blended,
however, Kanan usurped O'Neill's body to rescue his lover who was a slave to the
System Lord Ba'al. When captured, Kanan fled from O'Neill's body, and Ba'al
tortured, killed, and revived Jack in the sarcophagus repeatedly for information.
While Jack was at his lowest, Daniel visited him to comfort him and to offer
ascension, but Jack refused. Because of this, Daniel sought other ways to help and
finally interfered by giving mental hints to the rest of SG-1 as to where Jack was
and how to give him a fighting chance. The work Daniel did in secret helped O'Neill
and the female slave escape. (6.06 "Abyss")
SG-1 discovered Egeria, Ra's rival and queen of the Tok'ra, on the planet Pangar.
Egeria died soon thereafter, but not before helping the Pangarans resolve their
Tretonin addiction. The Tok'ra reverently mourned Egeria and then commenced
the reformulation of the drug to save Jaffa. (6.10
"Cure")
Earth built its first starship, called Prometheus, which was the product of
combining their own technologies with those of the Goa'uld, Asgard, and
Ancients. (6.11 "Prometheus")
The Asgard managed to use the remains of the android Reese to call all of the
Replicators in the known universe to assemble on the planet Hala in another
galaxy. They then activated a time dilation field around the planet so that time
progressed much more slowly within the field, giving the Asgard the time they
needed to figure out a solution to their "bug" problem. Unfortunately, the
Replicators had assimilated some very advanced technology (most likely from a
distant galaxy) that enabled them to figure out how to reverse the time dilation
so that time inside the bubble moved faster relative to that outside. The
Replicators evolved into human form, taking on the image of their creator, Reese.
SG-1 managed to reactivate the dilation field, but one of the Replicators named
"Fifth" was very close to the device, which meant that there wasn't very much
time for the Asgard to find another solution. (5.01
"Enemies Part 2", 6.12 "Unnatural Selection")
SG-1 discovered a planet formerly belonging to the Furlings, the fourth in the
Alliance of the Four Races, but there were no living beings left there. There was a
transporter system that took travelers to the planet's moon, but all other Furling
evidence was long removed. All that was left on the moon when SG-1 arrived were
the skeletons that appeared to be those of humans and of a Goa'uld, who had
infiltrated this "utopia", where only the "righteous" and unarmed could pass. The
Goa'uld introduced a halluciogenic plant to the colony that caused the people to
kill him and each other. Not much else is known about the Furlings, who seemed
to have simply vanished. (6.15 "Paradise Lost") SG-1 found that the Goa'uld Nirrti
was using an Ancient DNA Manipulation Device to engineer an advanced human
host, or hok'taur, on a group of humans on P3X-367. Nirrti apparently didn't have
the same background in the Ancients' research on ascension as Anubis had, so her
experiments were done in a hit-and-miss fashion, resulting in gross mutations and
death. Some of the subjects did display the advanced human characteristics that
Ancients had, such as telekinesis, enhanced strength, and the ability to read others'
minds. Some of the alterations Nirrti did to team member Jonas Quinn resulted in
his ability to see future events, but Jonas lost the ability when a near-fatal brain
tumor was removed. Nirrti's subjects on P3X-367 killed her and then destroyed the
Device after they returned themselves to their original states. (6.16
"Metamorphosis, 6.21 "Prophecy")
Master Bra'tac and Teal'c were gathered at a summit for Rebel Jaffa on
Kresh'tar when they and over 100 other Jaffa were attacked. The assailants
removed the symbiotes from all of the Jaffa's pouches, except for one. Teal'c
and Bra'tac shared the symbiote until help arrived. For three days, the two were
very close to death. Daniel visited them and interacted with Teal'c in his
"dreams" to keep him encouraged to save himself and Bra'tac. The two Jaffa
survived and were given the reformulation of Tretonin that the Tok'ra had
successfully engineered specifically for the Jaffa to end their dependence on
Goa'uld symbiotes.
(6.19 "Changeling")
Daniel's adopted home Abydos was in trouble, and he couldn't stand by and
do nothing, so he contacted Jack O'Neill to ask him to help the Abydonians fight
off Anubis, who was going there in search of the Eye of Ra, a device that Anubis
needed to enhance a powerful weapon for his new mothership. Anubis had
already collected the other Eyes, including the Eye of Tiamat that had been
buried in the rubble of the ziggurat on P2X-338, and he only needed the Eye of
Ra to complete the set of six. SG-1 thought that maybe they could find the Eye
before Anubis, so Daniel began helping them look for it. He found the tablet
written in one of the oldest forms of Ancient that Ra had stored away that told
of a "lost city" where powerful weapons were located (the name "Atlantis" was
not written on the tablet). This tablet was quite valuable, since whoever found
the "lost city" would surely have galactic domination. Daniel said that he didn't
know about the "lost city" identified in the tablet, but he promised he'd help
them look for it. The team had by this time found the Eye of Ra, and they used
it as a bargaining chip to get off of the planet with the tablet. The team left
thinking that Daniel would protect the Abydonians. (5.08 "The Tomb",
6.22 "Full Circle")
To buy time for his friends' escape and to protect his people, Daniel confronted
Anubis, whom he learned was a "bastardized" version of an ascended being, but
Oma Desala pulled Daniel out of the confrontation before he could destroy
Anubis. With Daniel's interference gone, Anubis used the weapon on Abydos,
and all of the Abydonians were killed, but Oma helped all of them to ascend.
Afterwards, SG-1 returned to Abydos through a Stargate temporarily created by
the ascended Abydonians, and found that Daniel's whereabouts were unknown
to Skaara, who was now an ascended being himself. Skaara bid O'Neill a fond
farewell and kept the Stargate on the planet long enough for the team to return
to Earth. At
 that point, the team concluded that something terrible had happened to Daniel
because he had failed to stop Anubis. (6.22 "Full Circle")

Daniel Jackson returns to human form and becomes a target for his ascended
knowledge Sekhmet is used in genetic research The search for the Lost City
continues:
Daniel's ascension ended when he made the choice to return to human form
after he discovered that Oma had ascended Anubis and then removed him from
his confrontation with Anubis on Abydos for fear that The Others would do
something worse to him. Daniel was angry that The Others permitted Anubis
to continue wreaking havoc as the powerful ascended beings stood by and did
nothing to stop him. Their punishment for Oma's breaking of the
non-interference rules and ascending Anubis was to make her watch
powerlessly as Anubis continued his evil plans. Daniel, speaking from the heart,
argued that it was wrong, but The Others paid no heed, and when he made his
decision to return to human form, the rules of The Others dictated that Oma
remove all of Daniel's memories, but she broke the rules once again and merely
buried his memories deep into his subconscious mind. She made the ascended
knowledge inaccessible for Daniel's own protection, but apparently felt that he
deserved to keep it. She sent him in this amnesic state totally naked and alone
to Vis Uban, where he was discovered and taken in by the nomads who
occupied the Ancient ruins there. Daniel didn't even know who he was, so the
nomads gave him the name "Arrom", which means "naked one". (7.01 "Fallen
Part 1", 8.18
"Threads", 10.03 "The Pegasus Project", 10.11 "The Quest Part 2") While Jonas
Quinn, Daniel's replacement on the SG-1 team, was translating the Abydos
tablet, he was hit with a sudden bit of inspiration and determined that the "lost
city" was really the "city of the lost" and that it was the last planet that the
Ancients listed in the Repository of Knowledge from the "Place of Our Legacy"
that O'Neill had accessed. The team went to this planet, Vis Uban, found Daniel
there, and convinced him to return to Earth with them so that he could learn
about himself. Jonas's translation of "city of the lost" was wrong, but most likely
a hint provided to him by Oma so that Daniel could be found and returned
home. (7.01 "Fallen Part 1")
On the first night of his being back at Stargate Command, Daniel started to
remember key parts of his past: specifically, Sha're's name and what the
Abydos tablet said. He corrected Jonas's translation and told the team that the
"lost city" was "still lost", his assumption being that it was purposefully hidden
by the Ancients under some kind of camouflage. Amazingly, this was an
accurate description of what had happened to Atlantis 10,000 years ago in the
Pegasus Galaxy: they had submerged the city into the ocean to protect and hide
it from the Wraith. Their strategy apparently worked, since the city still sat
untouched by the Wraith at the bottom of the ocean all of those thousands of
years. (7.01
"Fallen Part 1" Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1", 3.20 "First Strike Part 1")
SG-1 used Anubis's pursuit of Ancient knowledge against him and led him into
a trap on Vis Uban where they destroyed the superweapon on his mothership
and sent the System Lords against him to battle it out.
 Unfortunately, Jonas was captured during the mission, and his mind was
probed. This probe gave Anubis all the information he needed to begin his own
search for the "lost city". (7.01 "Fallen Part 1", 7.02
"Homecoming Part 2")
The majority of Daniel's pre-ascension memories returned to him soon
thereafter, but he still was unsure why he had returned to human form. He felt
great uneasiness not knowing if the decision to return was his or if he was thrown
out. As he continued to try to remember his time ascended through meditation,
he recalled seeing Bra'tac and Rya'c being taken prisoner on Ba'al's planet Erebus,
and with that knowledge, he helped to rescue them and the other slaves in the
camp. Even though Daniel couldn't remember all the details surrounding his
return to human form, he finally made peace with himself and determined that
he belonged on Earth as a human striving to help humanity any way he could,
rather than as an ascended who was pursuing his own enlightenment at the cost
of the sacrifices made by so many others while he did nothing but watch. (7.04
"Orpheus", 8.18 "Threads") Anubis began creating his cloned Kull Warrior army
using the technology of the Telchak Device and sarcophagus. These warriors were
implanted with symbiotes with limited intelligence that made them strong and
completely loyal. Anubis started to send these warriors out to eliminate lesser
Goa'uld and absorb their domains. The warriors' creation was probably a reaction
to the Jaffa Rebellion, but Anubis soon realized that the Tok'ra and Tau'ri had
developed technology that could kill them easily, so it is possible that he soon
began experimenting with creating a new type of warrior, a type of harsesis who
had his own "genetic" memories, who could join him in the ascended planes after
eight treatments with an Ancient DNA Manipulation Device gave them the
physiology of the Ancients in their advanced human form. (7.11 "Evolution Part
1", 7.12 "Evolution Part 2", 7.16 "Death Knell", 9.09
"Prototype")
Daniel wasn't given the chance to adjust to his new life for very long before his
ascended knowledge became the target of Anubis, who apparently knew that
Daniel's memories of his time ascended were buried in his subconscious mind.
Anubis sent his lieutenant Osiris (hosted by Daniel's former lover Sarah Gardner)
to probe Daniel's mind while he slept. Osiris was captured and the symbiote
removed (and most likely killed in the process). Finally, Daniel was able to save
someone he loved from the Goa'uld (he had a very hard time forgiving himself for
reopening the Stargate on Abydos that resulted in Sha're's being taken as a host
and eventually killed while still a prisoner in her own body). (4.14 "The Curse",
5.21 "Meridian", 7.15 "Chimera", 10.07 "Counterstrike") The canopic jar
containing the banished Goa'uld symbiote Sekhmet was obtained by a rogue cell
of the NID and the symbiote was used in unethical research to create a
human-Goa'uld hybrid who could access the Goa'uld's vast genetic memory. The
jar had been found by Napoleon in Egypt and eventually made it into the hands
of the Nazis and then the son of a Nazi war criminal, Dr. Keffler. The hybrid, named
Anna, was used by Keffler to commit mass murder (over 30 people were killed in
the research facility) and to threaten Orange County, California, with a naquadah
bomb. Even though SG-1 tried to help Anna, she couldn't be saved. More than
likely, the Goa'uld symbiote Sekhmet also died (whether or not the symbiote was
alive upon discovery was not revealed, but her being alive was not a requirement
since merely her DNA was harvested for the research). (7.19 "Resurrection")
Anubis and Stargate Command were in a race to find the location of the
"Lost City of the Ancients". The race came very close on the planet
P3X-439, where Jack O'Neill took a second download from a Repository of
Knowledge. After the download, SG-1 destroyed the Repository so that Anubis
couldn't access it. Jack led his team to Praclarush Taonas, where he showed the
 location of the Lost City of the Ancients: it was Atlantis on Earth in Antarctica
from 30 million years ago! While at the Taonas Outpost, the team picked up a
rare power source, later called a Zero Point Module (ZPM), that permitted Jack
to power up the defense weapons in the Antarctic Outpost that destroyed
Anubis's massive fleet in the skies of Antarctica and in Earth's orbit. Until Jack
could access the Ancient defense weapons, the Prometheus under the
command of Gen.
George Hammond and a squadron of F-302 intercept fighters led by Lt. Col.
Cameron Mitchell battled Anubis's death gliders and al'kesh over the skies of
Antarctica. (7.21 "Lost City Part 1", 7.22 "Lost City Part 2",
9.01 "Avalon Part 1")
Jack, unfortunately, was about to die from the download, so he instructed that
he be placed in a stasis chamber that was located in the Outpost. The Asgard
had saved him from the first download, so his team knew to look for Thor to
help this time as well. Several of the F-302 pilots were killed, but Mitchell
survived, and he faced at least a year's worth of intense physical therapy to
return to active duty. (7.21 "Lost
City Part 1", 7.22 "Lost City Part 2", 8.01 "New Order Part 1", 9.01 "Avalon Part
1", 9.02 "Avalon Part 2")
The Antarctic Outpost wasn't Atlantis, though, so the search had to continue,
but at least Anubis had been eliminated as a threat, or so it was thought. (7.22
"Lost City Part 2")

of Stargate Atlantis.
The Replicators emerge with a new leader Atlantis is discovered Atlantis
Expedition reawakens the Wraith Sacrifices are made on two planes of existence
as the Goa'uld, Replicators, and Anubis are defeated:
Carter and Teal'c found Thor near where Hala used to be. The Asgard were
monitoring the Replicators in their time dilation field and decided that the best
course of action would be to destroy the entire planet by blowing up Hala's sun
to create a black hole. Thor retrieved Jack from the stasis chamber in Antarctica
and asked him to use his advanced knowledge to create a means to defeat the
Replicators, who had used the time dilation device to escape the gravitational
pull of the black hole and were heading toward the Asgard's new homeworld.
Jack accessed Ancient knowledge and developed an anti-replicator weapon
that emitted a frequency that severed the bonds holding the nanites together.
The weapon worked, but Fifth escaped. (8.01 "New Order Part 1", 8.02
"New Order Part 2")
Fifth captured Carter and tortured her for her betrayal (when she promised
that SG-1 was taking him with them when they turned the time dilation field
back on against the other human form Replicators). After she begged him for
mercy, he tried to persuade her to stay with him because he loved her. She
pursuaded him to let her go, and he did, but afterwards, he created a human
form Replicator in her image that had her memories. (6.12 "Unnatural
Selection", 8.02 "New Order Part 2") Daniel went to the Antarctic Outpost to
conduct research into the destination of Atlantis while an international team
of engineers and scientists studied other aspects of the Outpost. Once Daniel
discovered
that Atlantis had been taken to the Pegasus Galaxy, Dr. Elizabeth Weir assembled
a team of "the best and brightest" to go through the Stargate. Even though the
trip was dangerous, the team felt that it would be worth the risk if they found
living Ancients. O'Neill, who was promoted and given command of the SGC base,
allowed the Expedition to go, but forbade Daniel to, claiming he needed him in
the Milky Way. (Stargate
Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1")
Upon the Atlantis Expedition's arrival to the Lost City of the Ancients, it became
readily apparent that they needed to find new Zero Point Modules (ZPMs), as Dr.
Rodney McKay called them, to power the cityship's shields that were holding back
the water in which it was submerged. On their first trip through the Atlantis
Stargate, Col. Marshall Sumner and his team, including Maj. John Sheppard and
Lt.
Aiden Ford, met the Athosians and learned about the long-abandoned City of the
Ancestors and about the Wraith, who attacked when Sheppard, a possessor of
the Ancient gene, unwittingly touched an amulet that the Wraith had created to
detect Ancients. The Wraith took several prisoners, and Sheppard followed on a
rescue mission. Just like the Ancients over 10,000 years ago, Sheppard's team
awakened the entire lot of the Wraith when Sheppard killed the Wraith's Keeper.
Col. Sumner was also killed on this first mission, but Sheppard managed to save
most of the Athosians, including Teyla Emmagan, their leader who soon joined his
Stargate team. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1", 1.02 "Rising Part 2", 1.05
"Suspicion")
Anubis had not been destroyed along with his fleet in Earth's orbit. He managed
to possess the bodies of one person after another, starting with a Russian
cosmonaut who was in the International Space Station, until he got to the
Stargate. Whenever he inhabited a person's body, he took over completely, but
memories of the possession remained in the host, just like what happens when a
Goa'uld takes a human host. Anubis's energy form had a detrimental effect on the
host's body, however, similar to radiation poisoning. Daniel proposed that they
attempt to get Anubis to break the rules and gain the attention of The Others, but
Anubis managed to get the Stargate on his own. Carter programmed the Stargate
to a connect to a frozen planet, where Anubis was stuck for a short time.
(8.03 "Lockdown", 8.16 "Reckoning Part 1")
Dr. Carson Beckett was a member of the Atlantis Expedition and was the one to
isolate the Ancient Technology Activation gene. He also possessed the gene, but
it was rare and varied in strength from individual to individual. He created a gene
therapy for those who didn't possess the gene naturally, but this therapy had only
a 47% success rate. Remarkably, the inoculation takes only an hour to become
effective.
(Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1", 1.03 "Hide and Seek", 3.03 "Irresistible")
The Atlantis Expedition found a lab with an energy lifeform inside a trap that the
Lantians were studying for their genetic alteration toward ascension. The lifeform
fed off of other forms of energy and the Expedition had to get rid of it by sending
it through the Stargate to a barren planet. The existence of ascension research on
Atlantis proves that the Ancients tried several artificial ways to reach ascension
for those who were not able to do it on their own, indicating that not Ancients
evolved to have the ability naturally. The origin of the energy lifeform is not
known, so it is possible that it could have been brought to the Pegasus Galaxy
when the Lantians left Earth 5-10 million years ago after those that could ascend
did so in order to escape the plague. This would indicate that the Ancients who
were on Atlantis when it first arrived in the Pegasus Galaxy either chose not to
ascend or were unable to ascend on their own and were seeking to intervene in
evolution in order to do so. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.03 "Hide and Seek")
A few months after their arrival, Sheppard and McKay began to explore the east
pier of Atlantis where they found the "Oracle" room from the Lantians'
sociological experiment. Not realizing that the societies were real, the two
thought that the control room was a very sophisticated simulation program. They
called it a "game", unaware of how their competitive actions were affecting real
lives on another planet. (Stargate
Atlantis: 3.15 "The Game")
Goa'uld came to Earth and began taking top executives and government officials
as hosts, but the existence of alien life and the Stargate network remained outside
of public knowledge. At one point, the Goa'uld tried to start a nuclear war just so
that they could gain access to the Ancient Outpost in Antarctica, which was the
location of the powerful defense weapon that was used against Anubis's fleet, but
they were stopped just as the Russians were about the launch the first missile.

"Covenant", 8.10 "Endgame")
The Replicator duplicate of Carter tricked Carter into helping her gain access to
the Asgard's anti-replicator technology and destroyed Fifth with it in orbit over
the Alpha Site. She escaped and began her own plan to take over the galaxy,
starting with the Goa'uld. (8.11 "Gemini", 8.16
"Reckoning Part 1")
The Atlantis Expedition discovered the Lagrange Point Satellite that was a
weapons platform and the last line of defense for Atlantis during the
Ancient-Wrath War. On a planet nearby, a lone surviving Wraith that was aboard
a cargo ship loaded with humans for food was encountered. He had lived those
10,000 years by hibernating and feeding off of the human cargo and the other
Wraith crewmen. He proved how very hard the Wraith are to kill by surviving all
kinds of attacks thrown at him, including Wraith grenades and P-90 bullets. It took
an Ancient drone fired from a puddle jumper to take him down permanently.

Atlantis: 1.12 "The Defiant One")
While exploring Atlantis, Expedition scientists found a nanotechnology lab from
which some of the nanites had escaped from broken containers. The nanovirus
killed those humans who didn't have the Ancient gene. The only way to stop the
spread of this nanovirus was to expose them to a large electromagnetic pulse
(they used a naquadah reactor as a bomb). The discovery of this nanovirus left a
very important question: If
Ancients didn't create this virus, who did? (Stargate Atlantis: 1.13 "Hot
Zone")
The Atlantis Expedition met Chaya, the Ascended Lantian Ancient who had been
banished by The Others to Proculus to be their protector. She explained how she
could not take in refugees because of her punishment for interfering when the
Wraith attacked the planet thousands of years earlier. After this encounter, it
appeared that the Expedition did not return to her planet ever again, apparently
satisfied that these humans, at least, were safe from the Wraith. (Stargate
Atlantis: 1.14 "Sanctuary") Because they hadn't heard from the Atlantis
Expedition since it went through the Stargate, Lt. Gen. George Hammond, now
head of Homeworld Security, assembled a rescue crew on the Prometheus,
including Dr. Daniel Jackson. Unfortunately, the ship was damaged and unable to
complete the mission because a pirate named Vala Mal Doran hijacked the ship,
which was subsequently attacked by Ba'al's forces when its defense shields were
down. Vala escaped after the attack, and
the Prometheus had to return to Earth for repairs. (8.12 "Prometheus
Unbound")
SG-1 discovered an Ancient time machine built inside a puddle jumper on a planet
in the Milky Way. The time traveling Ancient (most likely the Atlantian Ancient
Janus) recorded what he saw in the future on stone pillars. Daniel read the Ancient
text that led to SG-1's search and discovery of the timeship. General Jack O'Neill
was called in to fly the timeship since he had the genes needed to interface with
Ancient technology. It was taken to Area 51 for study. (8.13 "It's Good to Be
King")
The Atlantis Expedition found the time traveling Elizabeth Weir in stasis, but she
died soon thereafter. In her version of the timeline, Atlantis's shield failed and the
city flooded, killing everyone except Sheppard, Zelenka, and herself, who
managed to get into a puddle jumper that just so happened to be a timeship.
Sheppard flew the craft, but it crashed when they went back in time 10,000 years
during the Wraith's siege on the city. Only Weir survived the crash. The Ancients
healed her of her injuries and learned about the Expedition. Acting on her
information, Janus reprogrammed the city to rise when the Expedition arrived,
but Weir had to stay behind to manually rotate the ZPMs. Weir met Moros, the
High Councilor, and he was very adamant that she not travel back to her own
time, fearing the harm that could come with time travel. He ordered that Janus
destroy the timeship, but Janus secretly took his research with him when he
abandoned the city. Janus was the only one who knew Weir remained in the city
in stasis, and before he left, he gave her a note with five Stargate addresses where
he knew there to be ZPMs. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.15 "Before I Sleep") The Atlantis
Expedition met several new human societies and learned how some had adjusted
to life under Wraith control. The Hoffans developed a drug that could make a
human immune to the Wraith's feeding, but would also kill 50% of their people.
This drug also killed the Wraith attempting to feed on them. The Genii led two
types of lives: one above ground as a primitive agrarian society the other,
underground as a military power building atomic weapons. The Expedition also
learned that ZPMs were rare in the Pegasus Galaxy just as they were in the Milky
Way. Any ZPMs that were found were already being used as protection against
the Wraith or were otherwise inaccessible, including those found on M7G-677
and Dagan, two of the locations that the Lantian Ancient Janus had given the time
traveling Weir as places where
ZPMs could be found. The people of M7G-677 were protected by an
EM shield generated by a ZPM that was close to depletion, and a New Quindosim
kept the ZPM hidden in the hopes that the Lantians would return to reclaim the
sacred artifact known as the Potentia. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.06 "Childhood's End",
1.07 "Poisoning the Well", 1.08
"Underground", 1.16 "The Brotherhood", 1.17 "Letters from Pegasus")
Replicator Carter captured Daniel and probed his mind for his ascended
knowledge. She extracted Daniel's memories of his confrontation with Anubis
over Abydos when he was pulled out by Oma so that she could prove that she had
accessed his ascended memories and that he knew how to defeat Anubis. She also
discovered the existence of the device on Dakara that the Ancients used to seed
the galaxy with new life after the plague. She recognized that the device could be
calibrated to destroy her and her brethren, so she sent her fleet to Dakara to
destroy it. In the meantime, Anubis had gotten back into power, and Ba'al was
working with him as his lieutenant. Anubis told Ba'al of the weapon's existence,
and Ba'al told Stargate Command because he wanted to prevent Anubis from
wiping out all life in the galaxy. Anubis sent his fleet to Dakara to annihilate the
Rebel Jaffa who had taken over the temple there. (8.16
"Reckoning Part 1", 8.17 "Reckoning Part 2")
Replicator Carter opened Daniel's subconscious mind further and started to
 extract the "knowledge of the Ancients" to disseminate among her bug-like
brethren, but Daniel used it to send the command to all of the Replicators to
freeze. This period of inactivity gave Carter and
Jacob/Selmak time to calibrate the device on Dakara to destroy the Replicators
and leave organic lifeforms unharmed. Replicator Carter killed Daniel to break his
control. The time that Daniel had managed to hold the Replicators was enough
for Jacob/Selmak to activate the weapon, and all of the Replicators were
destroyed throughout the galaxy.

The Rebel Jaffa tried to capture Ba'al, the last remaining System Lord, but he
escaped and fled, leaving his fleet and domain to the new Free Jaffa Nation,
who decided to make Dakara their center of government. (8.17 "Reckoning Part
2", 8.18 "Threads")
Jacob Carter and Selmak died soon after the battle over Dakara, but the
alliance between the two peoples continued with Samantha Carter continuing
to act has Earth's primary representative. (8.18 "Threads",
10.19 "Dominion")
Oma Desala rescued Daniel's spirit at the time of the Replicators' destruction,
placed him in an ethereal diner drawn from his childhood memories, and
offered him ascension once again. While he contemplated his options
(ascension or death), Anubis entered his plane of existence in the form of a
friendly businessman named Jim. Jim and Daniel discussed Daniel's first
ascension, and after talking to him and to Oma, Daniel discovered the
circumstances of his decision to return to human form from his last time
ascended. He also rediscovered how Oma's punishment by The Others had
allowed Anubis to continue with his plan to kill every living thing in the galaxy.
When The Others, taking on the form of humans eating in the diner, appeared
to ignore him, Daniel tried to take action against Anubis himself, but discovered
that he had no powers. Finally, Daniel, once again angered by The Others'
refusal to act against Anubis, used the last weapon he had, his words, and
pleaded for Oma's punishment to be over so that Anubis could be stopped. The
Others did not respond, but Oma, moved by Daniel's plea, decided that she
should be the one to stop Anubis because she was the one responsible for his
ascension. She knew that she could not destroy him, so she chose to engage
him in an eternal battle that ended any further interference on either's part.
The Others were satisfied with this action and stopped some of the things that
had been put into motion because of Anubis's interference. They confused his
Kull Warriors on Dakara, and the Jaffa easily defeated them. They also stopped
the selfdestruct that Stargate Command had started to prevent the fatal wave
from the device on Dakara from coming through the Stargate. Daniel was
returned to human form (a new, third option), but this time, his memories were
left intact. (8.18 "Threads")
The Rebel Jaffa established their new center of government for the new Free
Jaffa Nation on Dakara and began restoring the old structures left behind by the
Ancients. (8.18 "Threads", 9.01 "Avalon Part 1") A future version of SG-1 used
the timeship to travel 5,000 years into the past when Ra was at the height of his
power on Earth. They went there to hunt down a ZPM that was depicted in a book
that Daniel had inherited from Catherine Langford at her death. They found the
ZPM and put it in a First Dynasty tomb that Daniel knew would be discovered a
few weeks prior to their decision to travel back in time, thus eliminating the need
for their future selves to travel back in time. The time traveling SG-1 were stuck
in Ancient Egypt, though, and died there. (8.19 "Moebius Part 1", 8.20 "Moebius
Part 2")
Sheppard's team in Pegasus discovered a Wraith reseach lab in which a Wraith
had experimented on humans to make them more compatible with Wraith by
making the feeding process more efficient. This meant that he altered the DNA
 of some humans to have Wraith DNA, but the experiments went wrong when
these humans were able to tap into the Wraith's psychic network. Instead of
destroying his subjects, he placed them back into the general human
population, hoping to dilute the DNA to stop the psychic connections, but still
keep the rest of his work intact. Some of these people went mad because they
could hear the voices of the Wraith's telepathic communications, while others
created special bloodlines wherein the ability to sense the Wraith coming
helped their people escape the cullings. Teyla's ancestry included those with
traces of Wraith DNA, and her father called it "the gift". Teyla became the
leader of her people because she was always the one to sense the Wraith first,
even though there were others among her people who also had the ability.

The discovery of the Wraith scientist's lab revealed that the Wraith language
was a derivative of the Ancient language and that their theories that the
Ancients were responsible for the creation of the Wraith were true, even if this
creation was accidental when humans were placed on the planet where the
iratus bug existed. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.18 "The Gift")
The Wraith were on their way to Atlantis with three of their powerful hive
ships, but the Expedition managed to destroy one of the hives with the
Lagrange Point Satellite before the Wraith destroyed it. The two hive ships
continued their approach while the Expedition prepared for the city to be
sieged once again. They managed to get a quick message through the Stargate
back to Earth, and in response, Gen. O'Neill sent heavily armed Marines
commanded by Col. Dillon Everett through the Stargate, using the
newly-discovered ZPM from Egypt to power the connection. He then had the
ZPM placed on the new BC-304, the Daedalus, to arrive in a record-breaking
four days to help to defend the city. It was a close call, but the city was saved
by faking a self-destruct. (Stargate Atlantis:

The Ori become aware of humanity in the Milky Way and launch a crusade
Expedition discovers Project Arcturus and Sanctuary Ancient warships and another
city-ship are discovered in Pegasus:
The Daedalus returned to Earth where the Expedition leaders began the
process of picking out new personnel for their return trip. They also brought
with them copies of portions of the Ancient database that included the roster
of those Ancients who returned to Earth 10,000 years ago and medical data on
the physiology of the Ancients themselves. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1", 9.09
"Prototype" Stargate Atlantis: 2.02 "The Intruder")
SG-1 disbanded and Dr. Daniel Jackson was due to go to his new assignment on
 Atlantis on the Daedalus's return trip, but was prevented from doing so when
Vala Mal Doran entered his life once again. She brought with her a tablet
encoded in Ancient, hoping that Daniel could translate it and find the treasure
that it was supposed to reveal. Daniel used the Atlantis roster to support his
claim that the tablet was written by the same Myrddin who was on the list. This
Myrddin is also known as Merlin in Arthurian legends, and Daniel used the
Arthurian legends about Avalon to determine the treasure's location as being
Glastonbury Tor in England. SG-1's new leader Lt. Col. Cameron Mitchell
encouraged Daniel, Teal'c, and Vala to go with him on the search for the
Ancient treasure. (9.01 "Avalon Part 1" Stargate Atlantis: 2.02 "The Intruder")
The treasure was where Daniel said it would be, and among the booty was an
Ancient communications terminal that used the Ancient communications stones
that the SGC happened to have on hand. Daniel and Vala used the two stones in
the terminal and were connected to a married couple in the Ori's home galaxy.
This psychic connection rendered Daniel and Vala unconscious at Stargate
Command, but perfectly aware in the Ori galaxy as they took over the bodies of
Harrid and Sallis. Unfortunately, their use of the technology brought them in
direct contact with the Ori themselves, who were now made aware of humanity
in the Milky Way. Vala, in Sallis's body, was burned to death on the Ara, and her
body died at the same time at Stargate Command. A Prior of the Ori resurrected
both Vala and Sallis and then took Daniel and Vala to the City of the Gods on
Celestis via a ring transporter. (9.02
"Avalon Part 2", 9.03 "Origin Part 3")
Ascended Ori took control of the body of their high priest, the Doci, and talked
directly to Daniel about the "evil" that the Ancients were and how everyone
would be witness to the Ori's power. Daniel learned that the Ascended Ancients
had shielded humanity from the Ori to protect them. The Doci told Daniel that he
had already sent a Prior through the Stargate to preach "Origin" to the people,
especially to those who had just lost their gods when the Goa'uld fell. The Doci
stated that those who do not accept Origin would die. (9.02 "Avalon Part 2", 9.03
"Origin Part
3")
Daniel and Vala were returned to the village so that more unbelievers could be
weeded out. Even with the knowledge that he could be caught, Fannis, an
unbeliever and friend of the married couple, helped Daniel and Vala establish a
full communications link through the use of a terminal he had hidden away. Once
the link was made two-way, Daniel and Vala were able to warn Stargate Command
about the Ori and the Priors. A Prior severed the two-way link, killed Fannis, and
sent Daniel and Vala to the Ara to be burned to death, but Mitchell and Teal'c
completely severed the connection by throwing the terminal and the stones into
the unstable vortex of the Stargate. Daniel and Vala survived, but Harrid and Sallis
perished in the fire. (9.03 "Origin Part 3") The leader of the village of Ver Ager
where Daniel and Vala had visited was rewarded for his service to the Ori by being
converted into a Prior by the Ori themselves. The "Flames of Enlightenment"
overtook him and his DNA was manipulated to give him advanced human powers
similar to those of the pre-ascended Ancients. The Priors, however, weren't able
to ascend, but the Ori promised them ascension upon death. This promise was a
lie, making the Priors unwitting pawns in the Ori's quest for more power. (9.03
"Origin Part 3", 9.10 "The Fourth Horseman
Part 1")
The Doci ordered starships to be built and warriors to be trained for the second
wave of the Ori's "crusade" to convert humanity in the Milky Way. If anyone
refused to offer his worship, he was killed. The Prior that demonstrated the Ori's
power on P8X-412 did so by spreading a plague that was remarkably similar to the
one that killed the Ancients those millions of years ago. The only cure for the
people was their complete surrender to the power of the Ori. When the free Jaffa
on Kallana refused, they were all killed, and their planet converted into a
microsingularity that was destined to provide the power for a Super Stargate that
was large enough for an Ori warship to go through. Vala managed to destroy the
"Supergate" as it was still forming, but her ring transporter matter stream was
sent to the Ori's home galaxy to rematerialize on the ring platform on Ver Isca.
(9.05 "The Powers That Be", 9.06
"Beachhead", 9.19 "Crusade Part 1")
The Atlantis Expedition discovered the Ancients' abandoned Project
Arcturus. Dr. Rodney McKay thought that he could succeed where the Ancients
failed in getting the power generator stabilized and the weapon operational, but
his arrogance and over-confidence prevented him from listening to his colleagues
who said that it couldn't be done. As a result of McKay's ignorance and
mishandling of the technology, the Project overloaded and destroyed five-sixths
of the Dorandan solar system (which, fortunately, was uninhabited). (Stargate
Atlantis: 2.06 "Trinity") Ba'al fled to the most unlikely of places after his defeat
over Dakara: Earth. He controlled the Goa'uld who had infiltrated powerful
corporations and governments and became a wealthy mogul. He also was
rebuilding his galactic domain by cloning himself (both host and symbiote) and
working his plans all over the galaxy through them. (9.07
"Ex Deus Machina")
Dr. Carson Beckett of the Atlantis Expedition began to develop a retrovirus that
would alter Wraith DNA by stripping out the iratus bug elements of the genetic
code and leaving only the human aspects behind. His prototype was tested when
a young Wraith female who had been raised in secret by a human man took it
hoping that she'd become human like her "father". Unfortunately, the retrovirus
worked in the opposite direction and she turned into a humanoid bug-like
creature that had to be destroyed when she attacked Sheppard. That exposure
caused him to mutate into a bug-like creature as well, but the effects were
reversed with the use of iratus bug stem cells programmed with human RNA.
Through this horrible experience, however, Beckett learned enough to begin
perfecting the Wraith-to-Human retrovirus. (Stargate Atlantis:
2.07 "Instinct", 2.08 "Conversion")
SG-1 discovered Anubis's experiment in advancing a human-Goa'uld toward
ascension on P3X-584. The young man, named Khalek, already possessed many
of the Ancient abilities such as rapid healing, enhanced hearing, enhanced
strength, mind reading, and telekinesis, but he needed more treatments in the
Ancient DNA Manipulation Device before he could actually ascend. Khalek told
Daniel that he had the memory of the confrontation Daniel had with Anubis, his
"father", apparently referring to the one they had over Abydos when Daniel was
first ascended. This gave a relative timeframe of when Anubis last worked on
Khalek before he was taken away by Oma at Dakara. Richard Woolsey of the
International Oversight Advisory (IOA), the organization that controlled the
majority of Stargate Command's budget, wished to study Khalek in order to fight
the Priors and learn about ascension, but Daniel warned that Khalek was too
dangerous. Khalek killed his guards and made it to the Stargate to return to his
planet for more treatments, but Mitchell and
Daniel killed him on the ramp. (9.04 "The Ties That Bind", 9.09
"Prototype")
The Atlantis Expedition located the Ancient battleship Aurora drifting in space.
The ship was heavily damaged, so the crew put themselves in stasis for the long
trip back to Lantia. Apparently along the way, the ship's hyperdrives completely
failed. Sheppard entered one of the stasis chambers to link into the neural
network that created a virtual environment for the crew. He met with the captain
and tried to explain that the ship had been away from Altantis for 10,000 years
and that the war with the Wraith was lost, but the captain and crew felt that they
were still on their original mission. To Sheppand's and McKay's horror, a Wraith
had also plugged into the network, posing as the ship's second in command and
attempting to get the crew to reveal important information on hyperdrive
technology by faking a hyperdrive upgrade scenario. The team killed the Wraith
and then finally convinced the captain of the truth of their situation. Knowing that
they were near death (the stasis chambers slow down aging, but don't stop it
altogether) and that Wraith ships were on their way, the captain decided to
destroy the Wraith ships by using his ship's self-destruct. The captain's last words
to his crew: "I've never been more proud than I am at this moment. It has been
an honor serving with you. And although we may not return to Atlantis, rest
assured that the Aurora will be remembered." When Sheppard's team returned
to Atlantis, they held a toast in remembrance of the crew of the
Aurora who had made the ultimate sacrifice. From this moment on, all
Lantian warships that were built like this ship were referred to as
Aurora-Class Ships. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.09 "Aurora")
An Ori Prior managed to get the plague started on Earth by infecting members
of SG-6 while they were on an undercover mission to P2X885. At the same time,
the Ascended Ancient Orlin saw Carter's attempts to develop an anti-Prior
device that would cancel out a Prior's advanced human powers. He decided to
retake human form one more time to help. In order to maintain his ascended
knowledge for as long as possible while human, he returned in the body of a
12-year-old boy. The Others did not interfere when Orlin returned to human
form to reveal some of the history of the Ori, to help develop the Anti-Prior
Device, and to find a cure for the plague. However, Orlin knew that he would
not be able to ascend again. He provided everything he set out to do, and then
got one of the Priors to reveal the Ori's goal: to build enough power to
annihilate the ascended Ancients. Orlin's brain was damaged to the point that
he lost his memories and had to be placed in a permanent care facility where
he engaged in simple activities, such as putting together a jigsaw puzzle. (9.03
"Origin Part 3", 9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part
1", 9.11 "The Fourth Horseman Part 2")
The Ori targeted the leader of the Free Jaffa Nation Gerak to become a
Prior so that he could win the Jaffa's devotion to the Ori by making
Origin the state religion. Gerak had long sought the Path to
Enlightenment, but he was conflicted when the Prior ordered him to kill his own
people who were gathering on Chulak to resist him. Teal'c talked Gerak into
turning against the Ori and to use his powers to cure those stricken with the
plague at Stargate Command, but after doing so, Gerak was consumed in fire for
his betrayal. His last words were "I die free." (9.10 "The Fourth Horseman Part 1",
9.11 "The Fourth Horseman
Part 2")
The Atlantis Expedition discovered the Ancients' "Sanctuary", the time dilation
 bubble wherein humans could hide from the Wraith and Ancients could
meditate to reach ascension. Time within the bubble progressed approximately
250 times faster relative to time on the outside, meaning that in the 10,000
years that had passed outside Sanctuary, 2,500,000 had passed inside.
Sanctuary had been discovered by a group of humans generations upon
generations ago who wished to follow in the Ancients' footsteps to ascend. The
small group of people who were living in Sanctuary at the time the Expedition
discovered them had advanced very closely to what the Ancients had in order
to ascend naturally (some had the ability to heal through touch others,
precognition and remote viewing). Their forefathers sought out Sanctuary
specifically to achieve ascension because they sensed that they had it within
themselves to do so, which might indicate that they had been humans who
were descendants of Ancients who blended with human societies a long time
ago. Once the last group of the Sanctuary residents released their burdens (in
this case, fears) they achieved ascension, bypassing old age and death (one of
the residents was a child). One of the residents, now an ascended being,
opened the portal so that Sheppard's team could leave. The team had to leave
the ZPM behind so that Sanctuary would be available to others who might seek
it later on. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.12 "Epiphany")
The Goa'uld who were living on Earth managed to take the commander of the
Deadalus as a host and used him to set an explosion on Atlantis so that the Wraith
would have no way to reach Earth. Fortunately, he was discovered and the
explosion prevented. The Asgard engineer assigned to the Daedalus removed the
symbiote via the Asgard beaming technology, the first time such an operation had
taken place. The commander resumed his duties with no apparent physical side
effects, although there were some emotional issues he had to work through as a
result of his body's invasion. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.13 "Critical Mass") The
Prometheus was destroyed by an Ori-designed satellite weapon built by the
humans of Tegalus. The survivors managed to get through the Stargate before the
planet's two warring factions turned their weapons on each other. (9.15 "Ethon")
The Atlantis Expedition found a city-ship almost identical to Atlantis on a
planet populated mostly by poor peasants who served the royal court headed
by the Lord Protector who lived in The Tower. The Tower was the central spire
of the city-ship, which was mostly buried underground after it was greatly
damaged thousands of years ago. The Lord Protector had the Ancient gene that
activated the city's defense weapons that were controlled by a chair similar to
what was in the Outposts in the Milky Way. Atlantis had one of these chairs,
too, and it was used to fire the drones and to control other city functions. The
existence of the royal bloodline on this planet indicates that some Ancients
blended into the human populations just like the Lantians had done when they
returned to Earth 10,000 years ago. These Pegasus bloodlines, however, were
much older than 10,000 years, so they were beginning to weaken as each
generation passed. Col. Sheppard's Ancient genes were stronger than any of
the royal bloodline on this planet had had in 300 years. The ZPM in this old
city-ship depleted soon after Sheppard's team's arrival, so the Expedition
traded a supply of medicines, an IDC (identification code), and help on
restructuring their society in exchange for defense drones and a few puddle
jumpers. The city-ship and its origin were never identified. (Stargate Atlantis:
2.15 "The Tower")
Stargate Command lost the Gamma Site to a scourge of "Prior Bugs" that killed
all of their personnel who were conducting research there. These bugs were
just another tool in the Priors' arsenal to convert resisting populations. Another
method of punishment was used against the Sodan Jaffa who had been
befriended by Mitchell. After the Sodan rejected the Ori, a Prior converted one
of their men into a zombie who killed all of his people, except for one. The
legendary Sodan warriors had lived in freedom for over 5,000 years, but were
 wiped out in only two days. (9.08 "Babylon", 9.11 "The Fourth Horseman Part
2", 9.17
"The Scourge", 9.18 "Arthur's Mantle")
The Atlantis Expedition captured a Wraith and used in experiments using Dr.
Beckett's Wraith-to-Human retrovirus. The Wraith was named "Michael
Kenmore" and given a human backstory, and he tried to adjust to his new life
after waking up with amnesia. The retrovirus had to be administered daily, but
Michael began to have Wraith urges he couldn't explain. Finally, he discovered
his true identity and escaped from Atlantis only half-way returned to his Wraith
form. Michael knew that Atlantis still existed, so his return to the Wraith put
the city in danger once more. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.18 "Michael")
Another piece of technology that Merlin left in the storehouse of Avalon was
a phase-shifting device identified by Daniel as "Arthur's Mantle". Merlin's
research notes were recorded in this device, which could be read only in the
alternate dimension where Merlin hid while developing his anti-ascended
weapon. Merlin recorded the address of where he took the weapon after its
completion: "Camelot". (9.18 "Arthur's Mantle",
9.20 "Camelot Part 2")
The Atlantis Expedition visited Taranis after the people there used the records
left by the Ancients to obtain Atlantis's Stargate address to contact them. The
Taranians were using the shields at maximum capacity ever since the Wraith
were reawakened over a year ago, and this was causing several alarms to go off
on their control console that they didn't understand. The overriding of these
alarms was not the right thing to do as they reawakened the supervolcano from
which the geothermal energy was being drawn to power the shields. The
Expedition had to evacuate the entire planet before the supervolcano erupted,
so they managed to board as many refugees on the Daedalus and the
partially-fixed Aurora-class warship Hippaforalkus, which Sheppard renamed
Orion. The eruption of the supervolcano rendered the planet uninhabitable for
many years, but the people were relocated, and they thanked the Expedition
for their rescue by granting them the use of
Orion. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.19 "Inferno")
Vala made temporary contact with Stargate Command by using the
communications terminal on her end and connecting to Daniel through an
emulator developed by Carter on the other end. Using Daniel's body, Vala
warned them that the Ori had built a new Supergate and were preparing to
send a fleet of their warships through it. She also told them that she was
pregnant and married a local man named Tomin to explain her condition,
although she realized that the Ori had impregnated her against her will. (9.19
"Crusade Part 1")
SG-1 went to Camelot, but didn't find the weapon. They did, however, find out
that Merlin disappeared about the same time that Arthur and his Knights went
on their quest for the Sangreal. The governor of the village told Daniel that
Arthur and his Knights went to Castiana, Sahal, and Vagonbrei in their search,
but he didn't know the Stargate addresses. (9.20 "Camelot Part 2")
Four Ori warships came through the new Supergate and quickly decimated the
allied fleet (Asgard, Jaffa, Tau'ri, Lucian Alliance, and possibly Tok'ra). Only
Earth's Odyssey remained to tell the tale, and they rescued as many people as
they could who were stranded on their dying ships. (9.20 "Camelot Part 2",
10.01 "Flesh and Blood Part 3")

Vala joined Tomin on his warship, one of the four that came through the
Supergate, and returned home to the Milky Way in time to deliver her child, a girl
she named Adria. Adria was genetically engineered to grow quickly both mentally
and physically. She was the most powerful of the advanced humans the Ori had
created and was appointed the leader of the Ori's crusade in the Milky Way. Her
first target was Chulak, and soon thereafter, several planets quickly fell. (10.01
"Flesh and Blood
Part 3", 10.02 "Morpheus")
Michael Kenmore, the Wraith experimented on by the Expedition, returned to
Atlantis with his hive requesting an alliance. His Queen explained that there were
several rivalries among the Wraith ever since all of them had reawakened they
were fighting each other over the human food supply. The Queen proposed that
the Expedition help them weaponize the retrovirus so that they could turn rival
hives into humans and feed on them. The Wraith and the Expedition's scientists
worked side-by-side, but it was all a set-up so that the Wraith could gain
hyperdrive upgrades to get to Earth. The Expedition lost the Orion in the battle
with the Wraith hives that were making their way toward the Milky Way, but
these hives were stopped. Michael proposed using the retrovirus on one of the
hive's population so that they could board the ship. The Expedition gained the use
of the hive and returned to Atlantis with their new prize. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.20
"Allies Part 1", 3.01 "No
Man's Land Part 2")
The Wraith-men who were exposed to the retrovirus on the Expedition's captured
hive ship were transplanted to a planet without a Stargate so that Beckett could
work on a permanent version of the retrovirus. The retrovirus was forced on
Michael a second time, and he was among those amnesic men who started to
remember their pasts. They killed their Expedition guards and kept only Beckett
alive. Before Beckett was rescued, Michael had had several days alone with him,
and it was later revealed that he took what he needed to create a clone of him so
that he could continue to refine the retrovirus. Michael and the other Wraithmen
were rescued by a hive ship, and the Expedition lost their newlyacquired hive ship
in the battle. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.02 "Misbegotten
Part 3", 4.19 "The Kindred Part 2")
Daniel determined the Stargate address of Vagonbrei by combining
Arthurian legends with Merlin's documents from his Camelot library.
Unfortunately, the weapon wasn't there, but Daniel did find a reference to
Atlantis in the village's records. They also found evidence that Morgan Le Fay had
hidden there for a time. (10.02 "Morpheus") Daniel and Vala went to Atlantis to
conduct research on the Ancient database about the two remaining planets
Castiana and Sahal. Daniel wanted to correlate the Old English names with
Ancient names, so he used the holographic interface to interact with the
database. The female avatar had been created by the Lantian Ganos Lal to teach
"young minds" about Atlantis. She readily provided the Ancient names of the two
planets as well as their Stargate addresses, even after Dr. Elizabeth Weir had
queried the database earlier with no results. Daniel quickly figured out that the
avatar was actually the ascended Morgan Le Fay directly interacting with him. She
explained her history with Moros, the High Councilor of Atlantis, whom Daniel
recognized as Merlin from his holographic images found in Avalon and Camelot.
Morgan explained that she agreed with Merlin's actions now and wanted to help
Daniel find the anti-Ori weapon, but she felt that she would be no better than the
Ori to go against the rules to help him any further than she already had. She told
Daniel that she knew him from his time ascended, and Daniel realized that she
feared punishment by The Others. He persuaded her to step further across the
line, but The Others pulled her out before she could give him any more
information and forced her into exile. Daniel's frustration grew when he realized
that The Others did not intend to help humanity against the Ori, leaving them to
fight this war alone, even when they themselves were being threatened. (10.03
"The Pegasus
Project", Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
While Daniel and Vala were in the city, Carter, Mitchell, and McKay took the
Odyssey on a mission to block the Supergate in the Milky Way with a wormhole
that originated from a Stargate activated in Pegasus (the Supergate could only
connect with another Stargate outside its own galaxy). Their plan worked, and in
the course of creating the wormhole, they managed to destroy a Wraith hive ship
in Pegasus and an Ori warship in the Milky Way. The destruction of this one
warship was witnessed by Teal'c, who proclaimed it a great victory. (10.03 "The
Pegasus Project")
Ba'al learned of the existence of Merlin's weapon and decided to find it himself,
hoping to use it against both the Ancients and the Ori. He managed to steal
Stargate Command's database of Stargate addresses that O'Neill placed in their
dialing computer system when he had the download of the Repository of
Knowledge. This gave Ba'al all of the galaxy's Stargate addresses. (10.04
"Insiders")
The Atlantis Expedition discovered Asuras, the homeworld of the Pegasus
Replicators, the Asurans, who appeared to be Ancients who had an argument with
the Lantians over how to combat the Wraith and parted ways. Millions of Asurans
lived on the planet and their technology was nearly identical to that of Atlantis,
including the use of ZPMs that they manufactured themselves. At first, these
people seemed friendly enough, but that soon changed when the Asurans learned
that Atlantis still existed and that humans had taken possession of it. The Asurans
resented humans and hated the Lantians, so they revealed that they were
replicators and mounted an attack on Atlantis in their own city-ship. The
Expedition managed to destroy that ship, but not before one of the Asurans
infected Weir with a nanovirus. This nanovirus had similar characteristics to the
original nanite form of the Asurans when they were programmed to destroy
Wraith cells. Weir was saved when the nanites were isolated and disabled with an
EM pulse. Weir returned to her duties as leader of the Expedition while the
nanites remained dormant within her. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.05 "Progeny", 2.06
"The Real
World")
One thing that the Expedition learned about the Asurans while being held by them
was that there were some who wished to follow the Path to Enlightenment and
ascend like their Ancient creators. All of the Asurans were linked together into a
collective, but there were some individuals who wished to override their base
code that had their original programming of aggression built in. They figured that
they'd never reach ascension if they had this trait, so McKay helped them out to
gain his team's freedom, and by doing so, the Asurans gained the ability to modify
their own code. (Stargate Atlantis: 2.05 "Progeny")
The Jaffa were losing several of their strongholds to the Ori and decided to use
the weapon on Dakara to kill the humans who were converted into Ori worshipers
while one of the Ori's warships was resting on the planet. The energy wave they
sent through the Stargate killed everyone on the planet, except for Adria, who
had a personal defense shield. The empty warship was boarded by both SG-1 and
a Free Jaffa patrol, but Adria ended up in control. She found out about the weapon
on Dakara and took the warship there where she destroyed it from orbit. Adria
also had temporary custody of Daniel and Vala, and she told Daniel that the Ori
had plans for him and predicted that the galaxy would be under the Ori's control
within a year. (10.07 "Counterstrike")
Sheppard was captured by his Genii nemesis named Kolya and fed upon by a
Wraith who was also a prisoner. The two joined forces to escape, and the Wraith
returned Sheppard's life to him. This was the first time that anyone in the
Expedition learned that the Wraith could give "the gift of life". The Wraith told
him that giving one's life back was reserved for Wraith worshipers and brethren.
The alliance these two made during this time would prove to be one to shake the
very foundations of the Pegasus
power structure in the very near future. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.07
"Common Ground")
Vala, who had been the former host to the Goa'uld Qetesh, was captured by the
Goa'uld Athena who wanted to obtain information from Vala's subconscious mind
about the great treasure supposedly left by the
Ancients from before they ascended (at the time of the plague). Qetesh had
claimed that she knew the code to the tablet, the Clava Thessara Infinitas, but the
symbiote was removed from Vala before she could tell Athena. Vala was rescued
before Athena obtained any real information concerning the treasure, the legend
for which was documented in one of Merlin's volumes, but was considered a hoax
for a while until Daniel was given Athena's research. SG-1 investigated a planet in
the hopes of
finding the treasure, but it proved to be yet another false lead. (10.08
"Memento Mori", 10.16 "Bad Guys")
McKay thought that he could adapt the idea behind the Ancients' Project
Arcturus, but instead of drawing energy from the same universe, the new device
would draw energy from an alternate universe. Unfortunately, the device
targeted an parallel universe that was inhabited and nearly destroyed it.
Forunately, McKay's project was shut down before any further damage was made,
but he lost the one and only ZPM that Atlantis had in order to fix the problem.
(Stargate Atlantis: 3.08 "McKay and Mrs. Miller")
Ten thousand years ago, the crew of the Lantian warship Tria had set a course for
Earth as soon as they heard that Atlantis was being evacuated, but the ship was
already damaged, and eventually, their hyperdrive failed. The modifications that
they made to their engines enabled them to travel at .999 the speed of light. It
took them 10,000 years to get to the void between the Pegasus and Milky Way
galaxies, but because of relativity, only twelve years had gone by inside the
warship. The approximately 100 Ancients within the ship most likely put the ship
on automatic and preserved themselves in stasis chambers. When the Atlantis
Expedition was testing the new Intergalactic Gate Bridge (a series of Stargates that
connected Atlantis to Earth) in the void between galaxies, the Tria detected them
and transmitted an automated message to request help. The Ancients, trying to
adjust to their new situation, forced the Expedition to leave Atlantis. All the Earth
members of the Expedition left through the Stargate that was being powered by
a ZPM brought to the city from the Tria. The Ancients agreed to let IOA
representative Richard Woolsey and Homeworld Security director Maj. Gen. Jack
O'Neill stay on Atlantis as representatives of Earth. (Stargate
Atlantis: 3.10 "The Return Part 1")
The Tria Ancients also relocated Teyla's people, the Athosians, who were
occupying the mainland of Lantia. Their new planet was called New Athos and it
had its own Stargate. The Athosians revered the Ancestors and regarded the
Ancients' return as a turning point in the war against the Wraith. (Stargate
Atlantis: 3.10 "The Return Part 1") The Asurans returned to attack Atlantis while
the Ancients were there.
Because of modifications McKay had done to the Asurans' base code from the first
time the Expedition encountered them, they were able to override their "do not
harm Ancients" code and killed all of the Ancients in the city. Woolsey and O'Neill
hid and were rescued by Sheppard's team who defied orders to get back to
Atlantis through the Intergalactic Gate Bridge. They used new anti-replicator guns
(ARGs) that Carter created using the anti-replicator technology that O'Neill had
fashioned when he last carried the knowledge of the Ancients. The common
characteristics that the Asurans share with the Replicators does give one enough
pause to seriously consider that the Replicators were indirectly created by an
Ancient who returned to Earth 10,000 years ago and created the android Reese
using similar nanotechnology, but a direct connection between the Ancients and
the Replicators has yet to be confirmed. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.10 "The Return Part
1", 3.11 "The
Return Part 2")
At the end of the Ancient and Asuran occupations of Atlantis, the
Expedition had three ZPMs. They kept one, gave one to the Antarctic Outpost,
and gave the third one to improve the shields on Odyssey, which was the only
Earth ship regularly stationed in the Milky Way to oppose the Ori. (Stargate
Atlantis: 3.12 "Echoes")
SG-1, Adria, and Ba'al were all searching for Merlin's anti-ascended weapon,
all for their own reasons. The team relunctantly joined forces with their
enemies to search for it, hoping that they'd be able to rid themselves of Ba'al
and Adria when the device was discovered. Adria revealed the plans that the
Ori had for Daniel: only someone with truth of spirit could possess the Sangreal,
and Adria felt that Daniel fit the requirement because he had once been
ascended. Daniel also had enough historical knowledge to be useful in getting
past all of the tests that Morgan had established to weed out undesirables.
Finally, SG-1 and Ba'al found Merlin's chamber, but Adria was prevented from
going forward with them because of her Ori origins. They revived Merlin, and
he began to build another one of his weapons. (10.10 "The Quest Part
1", 10.11 "The Quest Part 2")
Merlin's body was weakened after having stayed in the stasis chamber for well
over 1000 years, so he decided to do something extreme to ensure that his
weapon was completed and used: he uploaded his consciousness in a
Repository of Knowledge and then his body died. Daniel guessed what Merlin
had done and took the download, knowing that he'd lose himself to the power
and knowledge that Merlin possessed. He got as far as Stage 2 before Adria
caught up with them. She captured Daniel, who used Merlin's great powers to
cover his team's exit through the Stargate. Daniel and Merlin had a plan, and it
meant going with Adria when she took their incomplete weapon. (10.11 "The
Quest Part 2". 10.14 "The Shroud")
In Pegasus, the Expedition learned about the Adaris and how the sun had CME
events every 15,000 years with the help of Lantia's "whale" population. These
whales were actually fish, but they were so similar to Earth's whales that the
Expedition called them whales anyway. The whales passed on the memory of
the CME to each subsequent generation, and the current generation used their
communications abilities to warn the Expedition of the upcoming danger.
Unable to protect the planet like the Ancients had done with the city's shields
(they only had one ZPM), the Expedition used the ZPM to strengthen the shields
on Daedalus to disperse the CME closer to the sun so that the planet was no
longer in the path of the harmful radiation. (Stargate
Atlantis: 3.12 "Echoes")
Carter conducted experiments using the phase-shifting technology of Merlin's
interdimensional device ("Arthur's Mantle"), and she finally got a working
prototype that could shift an entire village into an alternate dimension so that
they could hide from the Ori's army. The Priors of the Ori were unable to detect
anyone who had shifted into another dimension, so the new technology was
deemed 100% Ori-proof. The device could shift an entire planet into another
dimension, but that would require the equivalent of nearly all of the power
generated by the United States. (10.12 "Line in the Sand", 10.13 "The Road Not
Taken") Daniel and Merlin worked together to deceive Adria. She wooed
Daniel and converted him into a Prior because he convinced her that he had
become a believer, but Merlin protected Daniel with his advanced human
powers. With the additional powers of a Prior, specifically a Prior's genetic
codes used to activate Ori technology like the ATA gene activatates Ancient
technology, Daniel could pilot one of the Ori warships and detonate Merlin's
weapon in the Ori's home galaxy after sending the warship through the
Supergate. He allowed himself to be captured by SG-1 while preaching Origin
so that he could ask them to disable the wormhole that was blocking the
Supergate. SG-1, Jack, and Daniel sent the activated weapon through the
Supergate on an Ori warship, but no one knew if the weapon had actually
worked. Merlin's consciousness left Daniel, and Daniel's body returned to the
state it was in before the download. Besides the weapon, Merlin left behind
other gifts while he was with Daniel: he created a cloak for Odyssey using the
ZPM as a power source, and he gave Carter technical information about how to
pilot an Ori warship using a laptop interface and how to dial the Supergate.
(10.14 "The Shroud", Stargate: The Ark of Truth) At the same time that
Merlin's weapon detonated in the Ori home galaxy, the Flames of
Enlightenment went out. The Priors saw this as a sign that the Ori were not
pleased with what the believers were doing to combat evil and said that they
must do more. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth) While checking out an Ancient lab
in Atlantis, McKay was accidently exposed to an ascension acceleration device
that modified his DNA to be like the advanced humans that the Ancients were
when they could ascend. McKay's new abilities included the ability to heal
through touch, enhanced hearing, telekinesis, telepathy, and a greater
understanding of complicated mathematics and engineering. He also learned
that he had to control his brainwave patterns, but he had difficulty doing so
because he was distracted. One of the reasons why the Ancients secluded
themselves and meditated was to clear their thoughts and release their
burdens in order to concentrate solely on the act of shedding their physical
bodies. Close to death, McKay realized that he could reverse the DNA changes
by using his original DNA pattern that Beckett had stored in a blood sample.
According to the records left in the city's database, more Ancients died from
the use of this technology than ascended, but some had indeed ascended
through this genetic manipulation. Since the results were highly unpredictable
and the risk of death was too great, the Expedition decided not to use the
device to create a superhuman army. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.14 "Tao of Rodney")
One of the teams of the Atlantis Expedition went on a mission to the planet
where the people had been following their "oracles", Sheppard and McKay. The
two rival countries were living out the competitive nature of both men, building
up to a global war. Finally, Sheppard and McKay showed them that war was not
the answer, and Weir helped them negotiate toward a peaceful settlement.
The "game" room was sealed off, and its use forbidden. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.15
"The Game") The Ori's crusade swept across the Milky Way, but Adria and the
Ori Priors appeared to avoid sending their warships to Earth. Perhaps it was
because they feared the Ancient weapons from the Antarctic Outpost, but that
was never made certain. There was one Jaffa group who worshipped the Ori
and called themselves the "Illac Renin" ("Kingdom
of the Path") who thought that sending cargo ships loaded with weapons grade
naquadah would keep Earth's Stargate Program from interfering with the Ori
army's progress. This plan, however, was exposed, the attack never happened,
and Earth remained untouched as more planets, including those of Earth's allies,
fell. (10.02 "Morpheus", 10.07
"Counterstrike", 10.17 "Talion", 10.18 "Family Ties")
Two scientists in Atlantis discovered a weapon that the Ancients created to
battle the Wraith. It emitted a dose of radiation that caused an explosive tumor
to grow just behind the lungs of its victim. Meant to be used against the Wraith
so that they would return to their hives as bombs, the technology proved to be
harmful to Ancients and humans alike. One of the scientists died from the
explosion, killing others nearby. The second scientist was operated on by Dr.
Carson Beckett in time to save his life, but while removing the tumor from the
operating room, Beckett and one of the soldiers of the bomb squad were killed
when the tumor exploded at hand-off. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.17 "Sunday") The
underwater drilling platform that the Ancients built on Lantia was discovered by
the Atlantis Expedition. Not sure why the Ancients abandoned it, the Expedition
members went to work on getting it operational so that geothermal energy could
be routed through an umbilical to the city. While surveying the facility, the team
encountered and killed the Wraith Queen who led the siege on Atlantis. She had
survived the 10,000 years since that time by hibernating and feeding off of her
crew until only she remained. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.18
"Submersion")
Ba'al captured the Ori's leader Adria and implanted her with one of his
symbiotes. His goal was to lead her army through her and gain galactic
domination for himself. His plan backfired when SG-1 captured them and
removed the symbiote, hoping to replace Ba'al with a Tok'ra who could probe
Adria's mind and provide important intel, including whether or not the Ori were
truly dead from the use of Merlin's weapon. Once the Ba'al symbiote was
removed, Adria regained control of her body and ascended. Adria took the Ori's
place as a new, smaller version of the Flames of Enlightenment in the City of
the Gods in Celestis. Instead of speaking through the Doci, she appeared in her
human form, but surrounded in supernatural flames. (10.19 "Dominion",
Stargate: The
Ark of Truth)
The Atlantis Expedition encountered Michael Kenmore once more. He
kidnapped and killed all of the Taranians so that he could further his research
into the creation of an ideal soldier. His first attempts were humanoid bug
creatures that had more iratus characteristics than human, but they were too
easily killed. Unfortunately, Michael was using the Stargate addresses of the
Expedition's Pegasus allies to obtain his test subjects. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.19
"Vengeance")
The Asgard had known for a long time that they were a dying race, so they
made preparations to pass on their own legacy. Like the Ancients before them,
they gathered up all of their knowledge into a single Core and installed it on
Earth's Odyssey. They also upgraded the ship's weapons to include a plasma
beam weapon that could penetrate the Ori warships' shields and destroy them.
The drawback to having the Core installed on the ship was that the Ori could
detect them, even when they traveled in hyperspace. Once the Asgard detected
three Ori warships' approach, they all left the Odyssey and then blew
themselves and their planet apart, taking everything with them, including two
of the Ori warships. In order to preserve the Asgard Legacy, Carter placed the
ship in a time dilation bubble in order to figure out how to escape the oncoming
energy beam from an Ori warship. It took around 50 years for her to arrive at
the solution, and in the process of reversing time within
the bubble, only Teal'c remembered the many years inside the ship, evidence
for which included a grey streak in his hair. (10.20
 "Unending")
Daniel began to have visions of the existence of the Ark of Truth that the Alterans
built those many millions of years ago. He believed these visions were messages
from Merlin from the time he harbored Merlin's consciousness, but they were
later to be determined to have come from Morgan Le Fay who was hiding from
The Others by taking on Merlin's appearance. No longer a member of The Others,
but still fearful of what they could do to her, Morgan started to help the humans
fight against the Ori Priors and their army in indirect ways. With seven Ori
warships on their way to Earth, SG-1 went to the Ori's home galaxy through the
Supergate where they found and used the Ark against the Priors. When the Doci
was exposed to the Ark's bright light, he transmitted the message through their
orbed staffs that the Ori were not gods and that Adria was deceiving them.
Weakened by the withdrawal of their worship, Adria was soon dispatched by
Morgan, who apparently engaged Adria in an eternal struggle just as Oma had
done with Anubis. The Ark was taken home to the Milky Way, used to end the
crusade there, and then sent to Area 51 for study. (Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
The Asgard selected Stargate Command to receive their legacy, calling them "The
Fifth Race", alluding to the Alliance of the Four Races of eons ago, but even some
of their council members felt that Earth's humans weren't ready to handle all of
that knowledge and technology wisely. Their fears were validated when the IOA
chose to use the Asgard Core to create a first-generation Replicator so that they
could destroy the Ori warships from within. The IOA didn't believe that the Ark
existed, and even if it did, they didn't believe that Daniel would find it, so they
decided to take action to prevent the next wave of Ori warships from ever
reaching their target. The powering up of the Asgard Core alerted the Ori warships
to the Odyssey's location in their galaxy, and soon the ship was under attack. This
alert was done on purpose so that the Replicators could be sent to the nearby
warships, but the first Replicator escaped when Carter lowered its containment
shield so that an ARG could be used against it. The Replicator was programmed
to be immune to the ARG's wave, and it soon started overtaking the Odyssey. The
Replicators were stopped when their shutdown code was activated, but they had
managed to render the Odyssey defenseless against four Ori warships.
Fortunately, the Priors aboard these warships stopped their attack when the Ark
was used on the Doci in Celestis. The IOA's representative who activated the
Replicators was killed because of them, and the IOA apologized for their gross
incompetence and recklessness once the Odyssey returned home with the Ark.

Stargate: The Ark of Truth)
The defeat of the Ori and their army meant that the Milky Way was once again
open for the exploration of the thousands of planets that were unvisited prior
to the Ori invasion. SG-1 became an exploratory team once more and set out
on their new adventures through the Stargate. Carter later went to the Midway
Station to complete the Intergalactic
Gate Bridge between Pegasus and the Milky Way. (9.04 "The Ties That
Bind", Stargate: The Ark of Truth Stargate Atlantis: 4.01 "Adrift Part 2")

The IOA sent the newest 304 to Pegasus, the Apollo, with the Horizon Weapons
Platform to destroy the warships that the Asurans were building on their
homeworld. They believed that the Asurans were going to attack Earth, so they
decided to execute a first strike against them. Horizon worked, and the ships were
destroyed, but the Asurans retaliated by sending a high energy beam against
Atlantis through an orbiting Stargate. To escape this beam, the Expedition
submerged the city-ship just as the Lantians had done 10,000 years ago, but the
beam was still too powerful. Finally, they used the underwater drilling platform
to boost their energy to launch the city-ship into space. (Stargate Atlantis: 3.20
"First Strike Part 1", 4.01 "Adrift Part 2") The power of the single ZPM in Atlantis
was about to run out while the city-ship was still in space, so the Expedition
decided to steal a ZPM from the Asurans. They used an experimental hyperdrive
generator on a puddle jumper to get to Asuras (this hyperdrive was designed by
McKay after he had become a superhuman through his exposure to the Ancients'
ascension acceleration technology). They also used the nanites inside Weir, which
had been reactivated to heal her when she was gravely injured in the Asuran
attack. Using Weir's subspace link with the Asuran collective, the team managed
to locate and steal a ZPM. During the link, Weir isolated the attack code that the
Wraith had managed to shut down and didn't erase. McKay reactivated the code,
but during this added time on Asuras, Weir was discovered and captured. The
team made it back to Atlantis with the ZPM, which they used to power the
city-ship's descent onto a new homeworld. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.02 "Lifeline Part
3") The IOA chose newly-promoted Col. Samantha Carter, formerly of SG1, to
become the new commander of the Atlantis Expedition. She was selected over
other potential leaders because of her knowledge of Ancient and Replicator
technology. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.03 "Reunion") The Wraith captured McKay so
that he could shut down the Asurans' attack code. The Asurans had built more
warships and were attacking Wraith worlds, and because of McKay's
modifications to the Asuran base code, the Wraith's old program to stop the
Asurans no longer worked. McKay was rescued before he was able to make any
changes to the code. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.03 "Reunion")
Some time ago, a group of humans in Pegasus learned to survive in a
Wraith-dominated galaxy by living in spaceships. Their technology was put
together from what they scavenged off of abandoned worlds. They were running
out of room for their people on these ships, so they had to leave some of them
behind "on the ground". When they heard that people were using Lantian
technology, they set up spy satellites near the Stargates that were in orbit so that
they could catch the pilot of a puddle jumper. This pilot happened to be Sheppard,
and the Travelers, as they called themselves, knew that he possessed the gene
needed to activate Ancient technology. They had found the abandoned Ancient
Auroraclass warship in its two-hundred-year elliptical orbit and wanted Sheppard
to initialize its systems so that they could move in. They fixed the harmful
radiation leak and got the hyperdrives working again. Sheppard asked that they
become allies in the war against the Wraith, and the Travelers' leader Larrin let
him go. This new alliance proved to be very beneficial soon thereafter. (Stargate
Atlantis: 4.05 "Travelers") Michael and his Beckett clone, who was coerced into
helping, perfected the Hoffan drug to the point that it killed 30% of the human
subjects rather than the original 50%. Michael used this drug as the first wave in
his bid to gain galactic domination. Because he was shunned by Wraith and
humans alike, he waged his war against both by tainting the Wraith's human food
supply with the drug. He planned to then convert the human survivors into his
iratus-human hybrids. He had already converted himself into this hybrid form
through changes in Beckett's retrovirus, eliminating his need to feed on humans,
but keeping many of the strengths of the Wraith, including their telepathic and
regenerative traits. He needed a lot of test subjects, though, so he kidnapped the
Athosians and discovered that some among them had "the gift", traces of Wraith
DNA that gave them the ability to sense Wraith through their psychic link. Among
the Athosians who had "the gift" was Kanaan, Teyla's lover, and he was one of the
first to be converted into a hybrid. (Stargate
Atlantis: 4.07 "Missing", 4.18 "The Kindred Part 1", 4.19 "The Kindred Part 2", 4.20
"The Last Man Part 1")
The Atlantis Expedition met Davos of the Vedeenans, who could see future events
in remarkably detailed visions, which he was also able to share telepathically.
Davos claimed to never be wrong in his visions, but he pointed out that
interpretations were highly subjective. Davos was dying, and his daughter asked
the Expedition to help him, so he went to Atlantis for treatment. Richard Woolsey
of the IOA suggested that Davos be studied because precognition was an ability
of advanced humans like the Ancients, but Davos's unique brain structure was
determined to be an anomaly rather the result of human evolution. Before he
died, Davos told the Expedition that their future actions were very significant for
the rest of the galaxy. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.08 "The
Seer")
Sheppard's Wraith ally contacted him to obtain his help in shutting down the
Asurans, since he knew that the Atlantis Expedition was responsible for
reactivating the primary code for the Asurans to attack the Wraith. What McKay
didn't foresee when he reactivated the code was that the
Asurans would go after human worlds in order to starve the Wraith out. The
Wraith ally and McKay worked together to try to rewrite the shutdown program,
but their work was slowed down due to the enormous complexity of the code that
the Ancients had programmed into the Asurans. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.08 "The
Seer")
The experience that the Atlantis Expedition had with the restorative capabilities
of the Asuran nanites within Dr. Elizabeth Weir drove the funding of the research
and development of nanites that could repair damage inside a human's body and
then deactivate once the healing was complete. McKay didn't get the chance to
program Weir's nanites to heal, but only to replace damaged tissue. This next
generation of nanites were to go that one step further, and McKay hoped that
once they recovered Weir, they'd be able to reprogram her nanites.
Unfortunately, these man-made nanites proved to be as much of a challenge as
the Asurans themselves: they temporarily shut down a person's body to make
major repairs, rendering the patient a vegetable upon revival. It took the help of
the Wraith ally to stop these nanites, but this programming didn't lead to a
solution to the Asuran coding problem.

The question about who created that nanovirus that killed humans but left
Ancients untouched might have been answered when Sheppard's Wraith ally told
the Expedition that the Asurans were killing humans.
Back when the nanovirus was created, the Asurans had a "do not harm Ancients"
code, while their primary function was to eliminate the Wraith. Apparently
nowhere in the Asurans' code was there a "do not harm humans" rule. The work
on shutting down the Asurans didn't progress after several weeks of trying, so the
Expedition's Plan B was executed: send the Daedalus and Apollo out to ambush
and destroy the Asurans' warships. They obtained a sensor to detect these ships
from a rogue Asuran group who were cut off from the collective because they
wished to reach ascension like their Ancient creators. These rogues were
influenced by Elizabeth Weir's mind, but they reported that the Asuran leader
Oberoth had Weir killed because of this influence. McKay finally came up with the
answer to the Asuran problem: call all of the nanites into one place, compress
their combined mass on Asuras, and detonate ZPMs surrounding them to destroy
the mass. (Stargate Atlantis: 1.13

The Asurans warships returned to Asuras when they lost several lone warships
to the Plan B attacks. In order to keep the ships occupied while McKay did his
programming on Asuras, the Wraith sent seven hive ships (all loyal to
Sheppard's Wraith ally) the Travelers, around five ships, including their
Auroraclass warship and the Expedition, two. While in orbit over Asuras, the
Wraith in darts entered the city to steal several ZPMs. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.11
"Be All My Sins Remember'd
Part 2", 4.12 "Spoils of War")
In order to get the Asurans to compress into a single blob, McKay needed to
program a block of nanites to act as the seed. He found a device on Atlantis that
was used by the Ancients to experiment with Asuran technology. This device
actually created human-form artificial lifeforms. Unable to override the
device's core function, McKay created a female android he named "FRAN",
which was an acronym for Friendly Replicator Android. Fran knew that her "life"
would end when she met her purpose, but she readily embraced the
opportunity to fulfill her programming. She was beamed into the heart of the
Asuran city, greeted the surpised Asurans with a friendly "hello", and then
activated her destructive program. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.11 "Be All My Sins
Remember'd Part 2")
Fran's sacrifice and the joint effort among the Expedition, Travelers, and
Wraith worked the Asurans were annihilated when their combined mass
caused the planet to explode. Only the rogue group of Asurans who were
disconnected from the collective survived, and they had a new leader: Elizabeth
Weir. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.11 "Be All My Sins Remember'd Part 2")
The Wraith ally who took the ZPMs from Asuras was planning to power up the
cloning facility to build his own army, but he was betrayed by one of his own.
Sheppard's team rescued the ally, whom Sheppard nicknamed "Todd", when
Todd sent a locator beacon signal that he knew Atlantis would pick up. At the
time of his rescue, Todd told McKay about how the Wraith used this cloning
facility with three ZPMs taken from Ancient warships that were captured deep
within Wraith territory during the war 10,000 years ago. It was through cloning
that the Wraith built their overwhelming numbers and won the war against the
Ancients. Todd described the Ancients as "powerful but careless" and said that
the Lantians believed that their warships were "unbeatable". The Ancients
recognized their major fault in their recording left behind in Atlantis at the time
of their defeat: "In our over-confidence, we were unprepared and
outnumbered." (Stargate Atlantis: 1.01 "Rising Part 1", 4.12 "Spoils of War")
After Todd's rescue, the team destroyed the cloning facility by crashing Todd's
damaged hive ship into it. The three Asuran ZPMs were lost in the explosion.

Sheppard's team visited a planet where the Ancients had once had a
 mini-drone testing facility. The Ancients also made this place their home and
blended in with the human population, as there were those of the planet's
current royal bloodline that had the ATA gene. The people developed rituals
around the left-over technology, especially concerning the selection of the next
queen: The rite of passage for a princess who was to be queen included the
activation of the control panel to the minidrone test firings, as well as the
possession of the Pendant of Wairos, the Ancients' security pass key. If the
princess couldn't activate the control panel with her touch and the Pendant
didn't light up, then she believed that the gods had not chosen her to be the
next queen. (Stargate Atlantis:
4.14 "Harmony")
The development of nanotechnology based off of the Asurans continued on
Earth, but one scientist went much further than any of the researchers before him
and created androids. The male model that he created was for military purposes,
and the female model, for social purposes. After the incident with the medical
nanites, the scientist's research came under review, so he tried to hide the
evidence by deactivating his male model, but "Archetype" escaped. He was
caught and beamed into low orbit where he burned up in the atmosphere. The
female model, who had the memories of the scientist's dead assistant, was
destroyed, but her consciousness was saved by being transferred into a virtual
environment in a stasis chamber that had been brought to Earth from one of the
Ancients' Aurora-class warships. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.15 "Outcast") Todd stole
the passcodes to the Midway Space Station of the Intergalactic Gate Bridge while
he was working with McKay to shut down the Asurans, and one of his lieutenants
stole that information from him. As a result, a group of Wraith infiltrated Midway
and gained access to Stargate Command on Earth. The Wraith were contained,
but the Midway Station was completely destroyed after the Wraith boobytrapped
it with the self-destruct. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.17 "Midway") Michael learned of
Teyla's possession of "the gift" and used her relationship with Kanaan to lure her
through visions of Kanaan's asking for her help in finding her missing people. At
this point, Teyla was close to the delivery date of Kanaan's son, and Michael
suddenly became obsessed with the unborn child. He realized that the child of
two people who had "the gift" could provide the missing data he needed to
perfect his hybrids. Michael kidnapped Teyla, and the Expedition mounted several
rescue missions to find her. They used Todd as a source of information in
exchange for the Hoffan drug research so that he could save his dying hive. Todd's
intelligence led Sheppard's team to one of Michael's facilities where he was
holding the Beckett clone. Much to everyone's surprise, the Beckett clone was an
amazing duplicate of the deceased doctor himself, but he had two major
differences: he was programmed to not harm Michael, and his life depended on
a weekly injection of a Wraith regenerative cocktail. His condition quickly
deteriorated, and he was placed in an Ancient stasis chamber on Atlantis so that
scientists could come up with a cure. (Stargate Atlantis: 4.18
"The Kindred Part 1", 4.19 "The Kindred Part 2")
In his search for Teyla, Sheppard was accidentally thrown 48,000 years into
the future when the wormhole he was in was bent by a solar flare. Traveling in
time due to a solar flare event was usually prevented by the Ancients' Stargate
programming, but the Expedition had made some unintentional modifications
to the code when they last updated the operating system that they used to
interface with the Ancient technology. Sheppard went home to an abandoned
city that was sitting in the middle of a desert instead of floating on the ocean.
A holographic McKay told Sheppard what had happened after he went missing:
Michael killed
Teyla after she bore her son, perfected his hybrid-creating process, killed the
Wraith, converted the strongest of the human survivors into his hybrid army,
and took over the galaxy humanity ended. McKay devised a way for Sheppard
 to return to his own time, but Sheppard had to wait several hundred years in a
stasis chamber for the conditions to be right. He was sent back to twelve days
after his original disappearance, giving him enough time to save Teyla and
prevent Michael's rise. Sheppard and his teams went to the place where Teyla
had been found in the alternate timeline, but the entire building was
booby-trapped. Several explosions went off, and the building collapsed with
the teams still inside. Carter mounted a search and rescue operation, and the
Daedalus destroyed Michael's cruiser after he showed up hoping to capture the
trapped team members. (2.21 "1969", Stargate Atlantis: 4.20 "The Last Man

Teyla had a baby boy, her delivery assisted by a very nervous McKay.
She named him Torren John Emmagan, after her father and teammate
John Sheppard, who had played a key role in her rescue. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.01

The last clone of the last Goa'uld System Lord Ba'al was captured by an SG
team. Arrangements were made with the Tok'ra to preform an extraction
ceremony in which the symbiote would be removed from the host and then
executed. Col. Samantha Carter was recalled to Earth not only to witness Ba'al's
execution, but also to attend an evaluation for her first year as the leader of
the Atlantis Base. She was greeted by the IOA Representative Richard Woolsey
at the base of the SGC gateroom ramp and given the bad news that she was
being replaced ... by Woolsey himself. Carter returned to SG-1. (Stargate:
Continuum Stargate
Atlantis: 5.01 "Search and Rescue Part 1")
The Tok'ra were aware that the hosts were usually unwilling participants in the
Goa'uld's actions, so Ba'al's host's clone was spared. In his final words to SG-1
(including Maj. Gen. Jack O'Neill, Col. Samantha Carter, Col. Cameron Mitchell,
Dr. Daniel Jackson, Teal'c, and Vala Mal Doran), the clone implied that he was
not the last. Indeed, he wasn't. The original Ba'al had built a time traveling
machine that predicted solar flares that were used to bend wormholes created
by the Stargates. Unbeknownst to all of them, a time traveling Cameron
Mitchell had traveled to 1939 and intercepted Ba'al when he boarded the ship
that was transporting the Stargate from Africa to the United States. Because of
all of this time traveling, the last of the Goa'uld System Lords had actually died
in the past. After the clone's extraction ceremony was completed, Vala stayed
behind to offer him comfort since she understood his plight after having been
a host to the Goa'uld Qetesh herself. O'Neill treated the rest of the team to
lunch. (Stargate:Continuum)
When all of the Atlantis Base personnel were on Michael's planet to rescue
 Teyla and caught in the collapse of the facility, they had all been exposed to a
pathogen that was designed to grow a Wraith hive from the body of a human.
Dr. Jennifer Keller was the first to show advanced stages of the infection. The
engineering of this pathogen demonstrated just how really advanced the
Wraith were and why the Ancients described their enemy's level of
advancement as rivaling their own. Fortunately, the clone of Dr. Carson Beckett
had a great understanding of the process and designed a phage to cure
everyone affected. (Stargate
Atlantis: 5.02 "The Seed")
The rogue group of Asurans who wanted to achieve ascension had managed to
avoid the destruction of Asuras, so they were able to pursue ascension without
interference. Their new leader was the Asuran embodiment of Dr. Elizabeth
Weir's consciousness. They discovered that their physical bodies weren't able to
convert into energy like those of the Ancients, so they devised a technological
solution that uploaded their consciousnesses into subspace and destroyed their
bodies to mimic the ascension process. This turned out to be a bad idea. Even
after they were helped to create new bodies with the machine discovered on
Atlantis, they found that their Asuran programming was still too aggressive for
them to ever find peace. The replicant that embodied what remained of Weir
tricked the rest of the group into 'gating to a Stargate that was in orbit. Thus, the
last of the Asurans were left to drift in space forever.
(Stargate Atlantis: 5.05 "Ghost in the Machine")
Dr. Rodney McKay was invaded by a parasite that caused him to regress to the
mentality of a child. The parasite was discovered too late to operate, but Ronon
Dex, a native of Pegasus, was aware of a place formerly of the Ancients that could
give McKay one last day of lucidity before dying. The team, Dr. Jennifer Keller, and
McKay's sister Jeanie Miller took him to the Shrine of Talus in a cloaked puddle
jumper because the planet had become a Wraith stronghold. The Ancient ruins
located behind a waterfall emitted a type of radiation that repelled the parasite,
thus causing it to withdraw its hold on portions of McKay's brain. Keller drilled a
small hole in McKay's head and the parasite made its escape, only to meet its
death from a blast from Ronon's gun. The cause and nature of this radiation were
never discovered, but it was speculated that it was originally an energy source for
a research station.

Using Beckett's and Michael's research as a foundation, Keller developed a gene
therapy that would eliminate a Wraith's need to feed on humans for survival.
Therapy treatments were designed to reactivate the Wraith's human digestive
system and remove his feeding organ from his hand, but the rest of the Wraith's
body was not targeted. The Wraith that Sheppard had nicknamed Todd was open
to try this therapy because it would help his hive survive when all other hives were
dying out due to Micheal's release of the modified Hoffan Drug that tainted the
Wraith's food sourcehumans. Teyla underwent surgery to give herself the
appearance of a Wraith queen so that she could convince them to follow Todd's
lead. They agreed that after Todd was in command for a while that they'd begin
the treatments. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.08 "The Queen") With the defeat of the Ori
and the end of the Goa'uld System Lords' reign in the Milky Way, Dr. Daniel
Jackson was able to devote more of his time to conduct research into the Ancient
Database from Atlantis. The Expedition regularly sent portions of the Database
back to Earth. Daniel found clues inside the personal journals of Ancients
associated with the inventor Janus that led him to believe that Janus had a secret
lab in the city. Finally, he got to visit Atlantis to explore, but was kidnapped by
aliens when he and Dr. Rodney McKay found the lab and unwittingly reactivated
the key to the Attero Device. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.10 "First Contact Part 1")
The aliens that kidnapped Daniel and McKay were the Lost Tribe of the Asgard,
 the ones who used the Ancient-Wraith War as an opportunity to conduct their
genetic research on humans to solve their cloning problem. They were still
victims of the Wraith, however, and ended up taking refuge on a planet with a
toxic atmosphere that over the years grew even more so. The Lost Tribe created
sophisticated suits and hyperspacecapable ships that were able to penetrate
Atlantis' energy defense shield. Once the key to the Attero Device was
reactivated, they set a plan in motion to turn the Device back on again and get
rid of the Wraith once and for all, despite the side effect of Stargate explosions.
McKay, the possessor of the ATA gene, yielded to the threats made by the aliens
and reactivated the Device before he knew what the side effects were. Once he
knew, he and Daniel had to turn it off by wearing the Lost Tribe's protective
suits and entering the Device's radioactive chamber directly. Daniel was injured
when he was hit by an energy bolt right before McKay successfully deactivated
it. They were rescued, and Daniel was sent back home to Earth to recuperate.

Contact Part 1", 5.11 "The Lost Tribe Part 2")
While McKay and Daniel were captives of the Asgard, the Wraith Todd was
aboard the Daedalus to review Keller's research for the gene therapy. Having
been in the Wraith-Ancient War 10,000 years ago himself, he immediately
recognized the effects of the Attero Device when two of his ships were
vaporized. Thinking that he had been betrayed, Todd forcefully took control of
the Daedalus and determined that he'd destroy the Attero Device before any
more of his ships were lost. It was a battle of wills to regain control of the
Daedalus, but in the end, it was Sheppard aboard a Traveler's ship who finally
destroyed the Device after rescuing his people. Todd left the Daedalus with
Keller's research. The Stargate on Atlantis had to be replaced by one from the
Intergalactic Gate Bridge since it was one of the Stargates that exploded when
the Attero Device was turned on. The Travelers lost an entire settlement and
their Ancient Aurora-class starship when their Stargate exploded. (Stargate
Atlantis: 5.10 "First Contact Part 1", 5.11 "The Lost
Tribe Part 2")
Even though the Atlantis Expedition had done everything they could to use
the technology of Atlantis with good intentions, there were several human
societies that disagreed with their methods, which were sometimes more
destructive than productive. They joined together into a Coalition and put
Sheppard and his team on trial for crimes against humanity. Woolsey was able
to negotiate with the Coalition leaders, and Atlantis found even more allies in
their fight against the Wraith. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.13 "Inquisition")
Michael had escaped from the destruction of his cruiser in none other than
Sheppard's puddle jumper, and he returned to Atlantis to capture the city and
take Teyla and her son with him so that he could continue his research. Finally,
Teyla killed Michael, putting an end to his reign of terror over humans and
Wraith alike. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.14 "The
Prodigal")
As it turned out, the Sekkari seed carrier that landed in an ocean two thousand
years ago had landed on the same planet that Atlantis had relocated to when
they escaped from the Asuran satellite weapon. The artificial intelligence in the
device reawakened and created illusions in Woolsey's, McKay's, and Sheppard's
minds to study them and eventually direct them to help it achieve its goal. The
AI showed them what the Sekkari looked like, and then the unit was taken by
the Daedalus to its original destination. This unit was the only one of over fifty
that actually had a chance in restarting the Sekkari civilization. (Stargate
Atlantis:
5.15 "Remnants")
The Wraith Todd tried out Keller's gene therapy on his hive. At first the therapy
worked, but then the subjects were stricken with cancer. They sent out a
 distress call to Atlantis and then placed themselves in stasis pods, but because
the hive ship itself is organic, the ship was stricken with cancer as well. Todd
was the only survivor and was given his freedom to try out a treatment of last
resort: subjecting himself to be fed upon by an Iratus Bug to reactivate his
ability to heal. The failure of this therapy spelled the end of any hope that the
Wraith and humans could co-exist peacefully. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.17
"Infection")
Another pair of Ancient Communications Stones were discovered in Janus'
secret lab in Atlantis. Unfortunately, a thief named Neeva Casol discovered a
box of four Stones and the Terminal soon thereafter and ended up swapping
bodies with Keller in Atlantis. When Sheppard's team found the Terminal, they
had the same problem in turning it off as what was experienced by SG-1 several
years earlier when Daniel and Vala were linked to a married couple in the Ori
galaxy. Ronon blasted the Terminal with his gun in order to turn it off, but at
least the
Expedition had the devices left to study. (9.03 "Origin Part 3" Stargate Atlantis:
5.18 "Identity")
In an alternate reality, a Wraith hive reached Earth, but was destroyed by the
Ancient Weapons Platform that had been moved from Antarctica to Area 51.
One of the Wraith dart pilots survived, and he disguised himself so that he could
live among humans in Las Vegas, Nevada. Using his telepathic abilities, he won
huge sums of money playing poker in the casinos. He used the money to buy
whatever he needed to build a transmitter powerful enough to send a message
all the way to the Pegasus galaxy. He became careless with leaving his feeding
victims to be easily found by the authorities, and soon he was discovered. He
was killed by this reality's Sheppard, a police detective, but not before he sent
his signal. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.19 "Vegas")
The signal that this alternate reality Wraith sent out didn't reach his own
Pegasus, but instead, it breached the barrier between realities and made its
way to Atlantis' reality. A Wraith that had been with Todd when he took several
ZPMs from Asuras stole one and used it to build a
"superhive", a large ship with a nearly impenetrable hull. This superhive was
taken to Earth and immediately targeted Area 51 where the Ancient Weapons
Platform had been moved. Even Earth's Daedalus-class fleet was unable to stop
the Wraith, so it was left up to Atlantis to protect Earth. Atlantis was equipped
with a never-used-before wormhole drive that permitted the city-ship to travel
nearly instantaneously to Earth and to destroy the enemy. With its energy
resources drained, the city-ship was forced to land on the Pacific Ocean, where
it now sits cloaked not too far from San Francisco Bay. Atlantis had returned
home. (Stargate Atlantis: 5.20 "Enemy at the Gate")

This time estimate corresponds to Season One of Stargate Universe.
Evacuees from Icarus Base board Destiny and are stranded there:
 After millions of years of traveling into the far reaches of the universe, the
Destiny finally received explorers as people from Icarus Base in the Milky Way
activated the nine-chevron code that had been discovered in the Ancient
Database (from Atlantis) to hurriedly evacuate while the Base was under attack.
Unfortunately, the Ancient ship had traveled too far for those stranded there
to use the Stargate to dial Earth. Now, the approximately 80 Earthlings must
fend for themselves and struggle to survive billions of light years from home in
a ship that is mostly damaged and uninhabitable and functioning at less than
normal power levels. If it weren't for long-range communication devices
derived from Ancient technology and Destiny's accommodating programming
to stop at planets that can provide the basics for survival, these people would
have absolutely no contact with Earth and no hope of ever returning home.
