One 3-wire standard cable instead of many multi pole cables

Less cables in drag chain increases life time of signal cables
Reduced total weight increases system dynamic
Multi-wired cables and manual wiring be dropped
Uniform analog interfaces and analog cables
Without expensive analog card in the PLC
 Elimination of problematic different shields
No signal violation due to noisy environment
 Simple spare parts management

How does IO-Link work ?

IO-Link transmits data via Pin with serial 24V UART protocol.

Conventional IO sensor signals are transferred cyclic through IO-Link Master in SIO (Standard
I/O) mode.

Additionally Process-, Parameter-, Diagnostic- + Service data will be sent.

 Baud rates: 4.8 k Bit/s (COM1), 38.4 k Bit/s (COM2), 230,4 k Bits/s (COM3)

Properties of IO-Link

It is not another BUS system !

It is a De-centralized system running on the existing BUS network.

It is not a proprietary system.

It is a point-to-point system.

It communicates serially

It is a mixed system operation.

Advantages of IO-Link

No more fuss with various different connecting cables ( i.e.

shielded, non-shielded, 3-wire, multi-wire and other special cables).
IO-Link dramatically simplifies the installation effort, requiring one
standard connecting 3- wire cable.

Open for expansions ( very easy )

Sophisticated (Analog) Inputs realized without interface cards

Conventional devices easily connected via IO-Link sensor hubs.

Multiple IOs on one BUS node.

Cost effective solution.

All features of the existing BUS realized.
