The guide contains an overview of subrack and cabinet solutions, and gives
information about power and environmental requirements, installation and
mounting the nodes in subracks. Also notes on initial configuration, software
installation and verification is included.
The guide can be read separately, but for a more detailed description of the
nodes, the reader is referred to the following guides.
Additional Reading:
For an understanding of the EDA 1200 system, the reader is referred to the
guides in the Product Overview folder of the CPI library.
1.1.1 Version A
This is the first version of the guide. It is based on the previously released
EDN612, EDN524, ESN212, ESN204g and EPN210 Installation Guide
(3/1531-HSD 101 41 Uen)
Other than editorial changes, this document has been changed as follows:
The nodes described in this guide can all be used as modular nodes in the EDA
1200 system, which means that they can be installed at a Central Office (CO)
and OutSide Plant (OSP). Subracks designed for the physical installation of
the nodes are also available, making it possible to install the nodes in flexible
configurations adapted to specific solutions.
3 Tools
Apart from the tools, some cable ties for fastening of the cables are needed.
The cable ties are not delivered with the equipment.
Figure 2 on page 10 shows a 60-line ETSI subrack solution, with five external
splitter-filters, five EDN612 IP DSLAMs, one ESN212 switch, and one EPN210
Power Distribution Node.
Figure 3 on page 10 shows a 48-line ETSI GPON solution, with four EDN612 IP
DSLAMs, four dummy nodes for spacing and airflow, one ESN204g switch, and
another dummy node.

5 Power Requirements
The nodes do not have a power switch. Powering off a node is done by
disconnecting the power cable from the node.
A solution to omit the EPN210, and use a 5:1 power distribution cable as
illustrated in Figure 5 on page 14. A 10 to 15A high breakable fuse is required
to ensure over current protection of the nodes.
Note: The fuse is not part of any cable, and must be purchased separately.
The nodes comply with the following storage, transportation and operation
standards. The operation category is also designated stationary in-use at
weather-protected locations.
Storage class 1.2 means tested for storage in a weather-protected area, not
temperature-controlled.
Operation class 3.3 means tested for not partly temperature-controlled location.
Do!
The temperature within a rack assembly may be higher than the ambient
room temperature. Check that the rack environment temperature is within the
specified operating temperature range.
The nodes can be mounted in Ericsson subracks (19 or ETSI racks). For
detailed information, see the EDN312 Based Subracks Installation Guide.
Mounting in the rack must be done so that there is sufficient space for airflow
around the node, as shown in Figure 6 on page 16.
When the nodes and air guides are installed in EDA 1200 subracks, the
subracks are mounted directly on top of one another.
The space requirements when using EDA 1200 subracks is shown in Figure 7
on page 16.
dust. See Section 7.6 on page 32 for more information concerning installation
of dust plugs.
7 Installation
The installation of the nodes must be done according to the network design.
This section describes the steps required to install the nodes.
When the Switch ID (SID) value is not zero, the node controller in the ECN will
consider the ESN212 or ESN204g and the underlying nodes as a flexible block,
with the SID equal to the value of the DIP switch. The network design sets the
SID value. Note that value 255 is reserved and cannot be used.
The DIP Switch is located at the top of the ESN212 or ESN204g, under the Fan
assembly. The DIP switch has eight on-off switches which set a binary value
(0 to 255, though 255 is reserved).
When a switch is set to on, the associated bit is set to 1. Similarly, when a
switch is set to off, the associated bit is set to 0.
Table 6 on page 20 shows some examples of switch settings and the resulting
SIDs.

1. Remove the front cover of the fan assembly by inserting a flat screwdriver
in the bottom left side (1). Turn the screwdriver to open the cover, and
pull the cover off (2).
2. Insert a finger into the hole in the front and pull the fan assembly out.
6. Press the fan unit into the cover. Do not press on the fan rotor or motor.
Slide the fan assembly onto the node, while holding the fan unit pressed
in the cover. Push the fan assembly in until its front is aligned with the
front of the node.
7. Remount the front cover by sliding the right side in first and then pressing
the left side of the front cover so that it clicks into place.
Table 7 on page 25 shows the position of the different Ethernet cables in the
subrack and indicates cable lengths.
The TSR 263 70/xxx cable (EDA Power cable standard) connects the EDN612
IP DSLAM or the ESN212 switch to the EPN210 Power Distribution.
Use a torque-driver with TORX T08 bit (0.3 Nm recommended) to fasten the
cable connectors to the nodes.
Table 8 on page 25 shows the position of the different power cables in the
subrack and indicates cable lengths.
The TSR 263 69/3000 cable (EDA D-Sub Power cable open ended) connects
EPN210 Power Distribution Node to an external power distribution. See details
about the power requirements and distribution in Section 5 on page 13.
The TSR 263 72/xxx (EDA Power cable 5:1 open ended) or TSR 263 72/xxx
(EDA Power cable open ended) connects EDN612, EDN5324 or ESN212 to
an external power distribution. See details about the power requirements and
distribution in Section 5 on page 13.
The EDN612ef has a DSL subscriber port (the bottom port), an internal
splitter-filter and a POTS exchange port (the top port). The cable from the DSL
subscriber port is connected to the End-users through an MDF. The cable from
the EDN612 POTS exchange port is connected to lines coming from Central
Office on an MDF.
EDN612p and EDN612i each have only one DSL subscriber port. The cable
from the Subscriber port is connected to an external splitter-filter.
Both the connections from the IP DSLAMs to the subscribers and from the
IP DSLAM to the Exchange are made using an EDA Subscriber Cable. The
subscriber cable is produced in different lengths. Table 9 on page 31 lists
the available cables.
3. Fasten the connector to the EDN612 using a Torque-driver with TORX T08
bit. 0.3 Nm torque is recommended.
If making a cable is desired, instead of using the standard cable, use a TFL
301 5202/12 cable and the RNV 247 096/1 connector (subscriber connector).
Use the EDA Subscriber hand tool (LSY 901 54) to connect the cable to the
connector.
Figure 15 on page 30 shows the subscriber cable (color code according to IEC
189-2) between the EDN612 and the splitter.
The SFP cages enable the use of different SFP modules for the ESN212
switch depending on the requirements. These ports may be used as uplinks
or as downlinks. Available module list please contact the local Ericsson
representative.
The LEDs for port 9 to 12 will not flash to indicate activity as port 1 to 8. LEDs
for port 9 to 12 will only indicate Link up (on) or Link down (off).
2. Insert the transceiver with the optical connector facing outward and the slot
connector facing down. Note that SFP transceivers are keyed so they can
only be installed in one orientation.
3. Slide the SFP transceiver into the slot until it clicks into place.
Note: SFP transceivers are hot-swappable. The ESN212 does not need to
be powered off before installing or removing a transceiver. However,
always first disconnect the network cable before removing a transceiver.
The product number for a packet of dust plugs is SDF 111 164/15. Each packet
contains 15 dust plugs.
EDN612, and ESN212 do not require any configuration if they are used as
embedded nodes. Network configuration, software installation and so on will be
managed by the ECN.
After initial configuration, the nodes can communicate with the rest of the
system.
RSTP: Disabled
MSTP: Disabled
Use a standard straight through LAN cable with a standard converter, or make
a cable with the following connections:
3. Logon to the ESN212 with the username admin and password admin.
4. Set the management VLAN to the VLAN used in the network (if this VLAN
is different from 247).
IP address 172.30.10.100
Note that Trap receiver, SNTP server and Default gateway must be
configured even though they may be overwritten by a management
system.
esn212# restart
The settings are automatically saved, and it is not necessary to save the
settings manually before restarting the node.
Refer to the GPON description in EDA 1200 System Description for more
information.
To configure the ESN204g for multicast, enter the following command in the
ESN204g, using rcli or the serial connection:
1. Ensure that the ECN has the correct software installed for EDA 1200
release 4.1 R1A or higher.
2. Ensure that the ECN is connected to the BLM network, using a topology
described in the ECN User Guide.
4. If the ECN has a later version of software than the ESN204g, the ECN will
download the software to the ESN204g. Thereafter, the ECN will upgrade
the ESN204g software, using the downloaded version. The ESN204g
Software Version can be seen in the EMP Web Interface.
The application and boot SW of the embedded nodes is installed and upgraded
using the Web Interface or the CLI of the ECN. If a central management system
is used the software can be installed and upgraded in the nodes using the
management system.
If the CLI or Web Interface of the ECN is used then the user is referred to the
EMP CLI User Guide and/or EMP Web Interface User Guide for instructions.
Note: Do not downgrade the EDN612ef to a software version before EDA 4.1
R1A. Installation of earlier software will corrupt the EDN612ef flash.
Verification of the installation is done in the ECN, see the ECN330 Installation
Guide and/or ECN430 Installation Guide for instructions. In the case of
ESN204g, verification can also be done using the Entriview management
system.
User information for EPN210 is given in this section, since the EPN210 has
no user guide.
EPN210 identifies the power mode by the type of cable used. The EDA power
cable standard is used for ESN212,, EDN612. EDA Power cable RJ-45 is used
for EDN312x. When EDN312x is powered by the EPN210, one of the uplinks is
used for power only and uplink redundancy cannot be used.
The LEDs indication and the corresponding state of the node is shown in
Figure 22 on page 45.
11.4 Maintenance
Replacing the fans of the EPN210 every five years is recommended.
The fans can be replaced without service interruption. That is, powering down
the node is not necessary (provided that the new fan is inserted right away).
1. Remove the front cover of the fan assembly by inserting a flat screwdriver
in the bottom left side (1). Turn the screwdriver to open the cover, and
pull the cover off (2).
2. Insert a finger into the hole in the front and pull the fan assembly out.
5. Press the fan unit into the cover. Do not press on the fan rotor or motor.
Slide the fan assembly onto the node, while holding the fan unit pressed
in the cover. Push the fan assembly in until its front is aligned with the
front of the node.
6. Remount the front cover by sliding the right side in first and then pressing
the left side of the front cover so that it clicks into place.
1. Disconnect the power input connector(s) and the power output connectors.
4. Connect the power output connectors and the power input connector(s).
11.6 Troubleshooting
Faults in the EPN210 as shown in Figure 23 on page 48 is indicated by the
LED. LED indication and the corresponding possible cause and action to
correct the fault is shown.
