Block is a drawing component that you can use repetitively that means when you want a block you

can call a block & use it.

All the windows in the figure shown are drawn using a block

Advantage of block over copy paste option


a) If you change any one unit of a block in block editor then all the units in the block gets updated
simultaneously. You need not manually update each of the window.Ex If you change the
window marked in red it will simultaneously change the rest of the window.

Making a block

Step 1 Consider the figure that has to be blocked. Ex -


Let us make a block of the figure shown within the red box
Step 2 For initiating block you can go to the block in home ribbon.
Or

Go to insert ribbon, in block definition you find create block

Or

Type b in command line. Press enter


Step 3 - You will get a block defnition window.
Step 4 Specify the name

Step 5 Click on pick point & specify the base point.The dailog block will disappear
Step 6 Here i am selecting the bottom left corner

Block definition dialog box will appear . You can see the x, y, z coordinates of the point .You
can also manually type the values of the coordinates
Step 7 Click on select objects

Step 8 Select the object required. Press enter

You can see the number of objects selected


Step 9 Select convert to block

Step 10 Keep annotative, scale uniformly, allow exploding unchecked


Step 11 You have to select the unit same as that of the template drawings. If no unit is
required you can select unitless.

If you want hyperlink you can use it by clicking on it.


You will get insert hyperlink window. You can given any location on webpage or on your PC.

Step 12 Click on ok
Step 13 You move your cursor over the figure you can see that block reference information
next to the cursor this indicates that block is created.

Step 14 Click on insert


You can see your block in block table

When you select the object you can see that entire object is selected & base point is also
mentioned. Grip is there only at the base point.
Step 15 - Copy the object & paste it.All the figures created are also block

Retain option in block command

Let us make a block of the figure shown within red box


Step 2 Give the file name

Step 3 Click on pick point


Step 4 Select the base point

Step 5 Click on select object

Step 6 Select both the objects.Press enter


Step 7 Select retain.Donot change anything in behaviour
