ARRANGEMENTS FOR MARRIAGES IN THE GLENELG PARISH

Congratulations on your forthcoming marriage and welcome to the Glenelg parish where
you have chosen to celebrate your marriage.
For Christians the life-long vows of commitment to each other reflect Gods unchanging love
for all people. For Catholics, marriage is a sacrament.

When can weddings be held in the Archdiocese of Adelaide?

While the Archdiocese of Adelaide is anxious to be of assistance to all who are arranging to
be married it is good to note the following points in order that misunderstandings may be
avoided:
Marriages on Sunday cannot be celebrated before 12.00 noon. There are some priests for
whom their Sunday commitments make it impossible for them to celebrate marriages on
that day.
Marriages may not be celebrated on Good Friday or Holy Saturday (the Saturday before
Easter Sunday).

Preparation for marriage

Couples are expected to receive some form of marriage preparation. A suitable course is run
by Centacare, Catholic Family Services. Please phone 8210 8200 for details. Your priest will
talk with you about this.
You will need to show original or certified copies or extracts (not photocopies) of your birth
certificates to your priest. You are required to provide the original or certified copy of your
baptism certificate from the place (parish) where you were baptised.
Your priest will help you plan your marriage ceremony within the framework of the Catholic
Rite. You may choose to have friends or relatives involved as readers, etc.
We wish every blessing to both of you, not just for your wedding day, but for years of a
happy marriage.
Know that you are a sign of Gods love in a world that needs such love.
Please read the following information carefully, as it will help you to prepare for your
marriage ceremony at one of our two churches in the Glenelg Parish.

If you are not a parishioner, you are most welcome to use either of our two Churches: Our
Lady of Victories Church located at 17 High Street, Glenelg or Our Lady of Grace Church, 38
Beadnall Terrace, Glengowrie, for your marriage. You will need to contact your own Parish
Priest to make the necessary arrangements for your wedding with them.

If you or your fianc are a member of the Glenelg Parish, you are welcome to invite a
priest you know to preside at your marriage. The Parish Priest is available to parishioners for
the preparation and celebration of marriage.
Information required before booking a wedding
Before booking the church you must supply the name of the priest who is to officiate at the
ceremony. Visiting priests are always welcome, but, before booking the Church, you should
ensure that your priest is available on the date and time you require. Once you have done
this please phone the Parish secretary to discuss the booking date and time.
The Glenelg church (Our Lady of Victories, Glenelg) may be booked for the following times
on Saturday afternoon: 12.00 pm; 2.00 pm; 4.00 pm. This allows adequate spacing between
marriages. Please be mindful in considering other weddings that follow yours. The Glengow-
rie Church (Our Lady of Grace, Glengowrie) may be booked for any time Saturday afternoon.
Fees
The normal offering to the priest for a marriage is aligned with the charges made by the
Government and in this diocese is $300. If you choose a priest outside of the Glenelg parish
to officiate at your ceremony, please advise him, the celebrant fee has been paid at Glenelg.
The total fee for a marriage as at July 2017 is: $1050 (non parishioners) & $750 (parishioners).
The use of the church is: $500 (non parishioners) & $200 (parishioners)
Celebrants Fee: $300
A bond deposit of $250 is required to confirm a booking. This is refundable if
you cancel up to a minimum of 3 months before the wedding date. The bond deposit is
subject to the conditions outlined below:
1. No use of confetti, rice, petals dried or otherwise either inside or outside the
church. No use of candles on the floor.
2. One arrangement of flowers is left in the Church otherwise $50 is deducted.
3. No damage to the Church or surrounding property.
The balance (celebrants fee + use of church fee) must be paid at least ONE MONTH
before the date of marriage.
Based on our experience may we suggest that after making your final payment to the
Church that you phone to also confirm your wedding arrangements with every other
contractor with whom you have a booking, i.e. photographers, cars, flowers,
caterers, musicians, reception venues etc.

Music
It is your responsibility to arrange your own musicians for your wedding and this should be
organised as soon as possible after booking the church. If you require an organist you can
contact the organist of our parish, John Williams (0400 184 041). A fee applies. If you do
not desire live music at your wedding ceremony and wish to use a CD please discuss your
selection of music with your priest to make sure that you have chosen appropriate music
for use in a Catholic liturgy. A CD player is available for use in the Church.

Photography
You are asked to obtain the services of a professional photographer. (Amateur
photographers are a common cause of disturbance at weddings.) Please check with your
priest to see if he has any restrictions on filming, photography or video cameras.
Flowers
The families of the couple being married ordinarily make arrangements regarding flowers; if
there is another marriage booked for the same day you have the opportunity to share the
flower arrangements and therefore the cost. We can help you contact each other to make
arrangements that are suitable to you if this is a desirable option. As the church sanctuary is
left free for your own flower arrangements, we ask you to please leave ONE arrangement of
flowers behind in the church for use at weekend Masses. Thank you for your cooperation.
Rehearsal
Your priest may arrange a rehearsal at the church for your wedding. Please be mindful that
the parish priest of this church has evening commitments. Where possible please make
your rehearsal no later than 6.30 7.00 pm. Please phone the Parish Secretary to book the
church for this rehearsal time on (08) 8294 1888.

Parking in the school grounds off Chapel Street, is permissible on weekends for your
wedding guests. A number of parks immediately outside the church will be reserved for
your wedding.

Disabled Access
There is a ramp on the city side (Eastern side) of Our Lady of Victories Church for access
to those with disabilities.
There is a hearing loop in the church with signs in the foyer for its use.
There are toilets in Our Lady of Victories Church foyer.
There are two car-parking spaces at the front of Our Lady of Victories Church reserved
for those with disabilities.
There are railings at the front steps of Our Lady of Victories Church: the steps have
been treated with anti slip

For further enquiries and bookings regarding weddings please contact the Parish Secretary

We wish you well with preparations for your forthcoming marriage.
