MUKESH NITE AT TRIOLET MAURITIUS

Speech delivered on the occasion of remembering the great legend

MUKESHJI
who has made a special place in the hearts of many songs lovers.

Chahe ho woh apna desh

Ya bhale ho videsh

Teri awaaz mein hai

Pyar aur shanti ka sandesh

Koyi sandeh nahi hai shesh

Tujh sa koyi nahin hai Mukesh.

Mukeshji was among the top singers in Indian cinema. His full name was Mukesh
Chandra Mathur and was born in the 22nd of July 1923. His father was called
Zorawar Chand Mathur and he was an engineer. His mother was called Chand
Rani. Mukeshji was the sixth child in a family of ten children. He studied up to 10th
standard.

Zindagi mein jab aati hai khushiyan ki barish

Jab sulagti hai ummeedon ki aatish

Tab janam leti hai dil mein ek hasseen khwahish

Aur oussi hi khwahish utpan huwa Mukeshji ki hriday mein

Gaane ki khwahish.

There was a music teacher who used to come to Mukeshji house to teach music
to one of his sisters. Mukeshji found an opportunity to learn music by listening to
the teacher from another room.
Once in a wedding Mukeshji was asked to sing a song. And it so happened that
among the guests there was present the great actor of those times: MOTILALJI.

He was really impressed by the singing of Mukeshji and told him to shift to
BOMBAY in the Indian cinema.

This is how the fabulous journey of Mukeshji in the Indian cinema started.

First of all Mukeshji tried his career as an actor but his films did not appeal to the
public. He understood that he was destined to become a singer and as a singer he
conquered the hearts of many. And now many would have wished to watch those
films.

During those days there was one singer called KUNDAN LAL SAIGAL. He was the
topmost singer and everybody wanted to sing like him only. He has given us songs
like EK BANGLA BANE NYARA., HUM JIKE KYA KAREINGE JAB DIL HI TUT
GAYA, BAALAM AAN BASSO MORE MAAN MEIN.and many more immortal
songs.

Mukeshji sung the song DIL JALTA HAI TO JALNE DO .It has been said that
when K l SAIGALJI heard this song he said he could not remember when he sung
this song. Later he was informed that this is a new singer.

Mukeshji got married to Miss Saral Trivedi and it has been said that they could not
convince the girls parents and Motilalji however managed to get them married.
The couple had five children: Rita, Nitin, Nalini, Mohnish and Namrata. Nitinji is
nowadays doing a fantastic ( kabil-e- tariff) job by performing live shows where
those famous songs of Mukeshji are sung by him. Keep it up Nitinji.

Let us now speak about the JORI or association of Mukeshji and the greatest
showman of India: RAJ KAPOORJI.

Raj kapoorji said sometimes you meet a person several times yet there is nothing
which clicks but the milan of Mukeshji and Raj Kapoorji immediately showed that
they were meant to become very close collaborators. Thus started an era which
will remain immortal in the hearts of many. So many nice songs were composed
by them. Raj Kapoorji proudly said he was the body and Mukeshji was the soul.
In the beginning Mukeshji was supposed to sing for actor Dilip Kumar and he sung
many songs for him. But very quickly it became established that the voice of
Mukeshji was tailor-made for Raj Kapoorji only. And he became the ghost voice of
Raj Kapoorji.

The voice of Mukeshji was so sweet and melodious that it went directly to the
heart through the ears. It is said that 90% of his songs proved to be super hits and
this was the highest rate among all the singers of those times.

Many lines from his songs started to be used to name television and radio
programs. We had for example JEENA ISSI KA NAAM HAI among others.

Mukeshji became so popular that many parents started naming their baby boy
Mukesh. May be in this audience we have at least one person called Mukesh.

One of his songs from movie AWARA: awara houn ya gardish mein houn aasman
ka tara houncrossed the borders of India to many other countries, especially
to USSR where Raj Kapoorji already had many fans. This was a great premiere as
we did not have other Hindi songs which went overseas where non-Hindi
speaking people appreciated them very much. We can watch Russian people
singing AWARA HOUN on internet.

Muksehji heart was so great that he could not forget those Indo-Mauritians
settled in the island of Mauritius. Yes, he came to Mauritius and sung many songs
for the pleasure of Mauritians. I still remember him singing CHAND KO KYA
MALOUM CHAHTA HAI . with a very smiling face. I saw him on television
but I was only a kid and could not guess what a great singer was singing for us. I
am sure anybody from the audience remember this event.

Next Mukeshji, Raj Kapoorji and Shankar-Jaikishan joined together thus forming
as we say in French language LE TRIO INFERNAL. Many dhamakedar songs were
composed and we the common man were bestowed by these mersmerising
songs. These songs and good music were a divine gift to the world. It is not
worthwhile to mention any of those songs now because you will listen to them
here tonight. The singers are ready. Karaoke music is also ready.
Mukeshji gave a brief appearance in the film AAH in the role of a Tangeywalla and
he sung the song CHOTI SI YE ZINDAGANI RE CHAR DIN..

Mukeshji won four filmfare awards for his songs in films ANARI,PEHCHAN,BE-
IMAAN and KABHI KABHI. He also won a National Award for the song KAYIN BAAR
YOUNHI DEKHA HAI. in film RAJNIGANDHA.

The last song he sung was for the film SATYAM SHIVAM SUNDARAM.

Then came a day in year 1976 when Mukeshji decided to go for a tour to the USA.
Nitinji was with him together with Lata Mangeshkar. A chest pain, may be,
prompted everybody to rush him to the hospital.

But it was too late.

The great singer left the world for a well deserved place in Heaven.

This karaoke program was conceived by me, NAVINDEO RAMOO. I just wanted to
perform a replica of those programs which are regularly held at SHANKAR-
JAIKISHAN FOUNDATION in Ahmedabad, India on the occasion of my 60th birthday
and the 40th death anniversary of Mukeshji. Above literature on Mukeshji has
been written by me after making reference to articles published on Mukeshji on
internet. A big sorry for any details I have omitted and again a big sorry for any
lack of precision on what I have written.

Fans of Mukeshji may use above whenever there is any program on Mukeshji.

Comments will be most welcome.

The show goes on.

THANK YOU.
