So close but so far away

The secret meeting was about to begin, and I was running late.
As I sprinted as fast as possible over the beautifully coloured,
scattered, hovering leaves I listened to the echoing whispers of
the tall towering trees. As I ran, the intriguing, exotic and
eccentric features of the woods twisted my mind into thinking I
had to investigate, but my deflated mind pulled me towards the
meeting. My tongue was touched with a sour, bitter odour as
my sight drizzled away with the fog. I could almost feel the
rough, rubbery texture of the whipping wind and the strong
damp scent as I knew I wouldnt make it. The sensation of being
a failure dripped through my veins.
