Lesson Plan in English 10


I. Objectives:
At the end of an hour, the students will be able to:
A. Stress the importance of winning over challenges (EN10WC-1d-12.2);
B. employ speaking techniques in panel discussion.
II. Learning Task:
A. Subject Matter: Module 1: Overcoming Challenges
Lesson 5: Winning Over Individual Challenges
Task 9: Giving Your Best
B. Value Focus: Open-mindedness
C. Reference: Learners Materials in English 10, Teachers Guide in English 10
D. Materials: Manila Paper, Pentel Pen, Scotch Tape, Scissors, Microphones, Speakers
III. Procedure:
A. Pre-Activity
1. Review
We are almost done with our lesson. Today, you will participate actively in
a panel discussion.
2. Motivation
Panel discussion requires you to listen to the questions carefully. So, you
may be able to answer the questions correctly.
Listen to the conversations and answer the questions that follow.
Write your answers on your notebooks.
3. Presentation
Here are some of ideas for your panel discussion.
Form a panel of 6 to 7 members (1 chairman, 1 interviewee and 5
panelists or discussants).
Prepare for a panel discussion by choosing the best way to ein over
challenges.
Develop set of questions to be asked during the discussion.
Plan on the points to be covered during the discussion by
preparing an outline.
Revisit the features of and the required format for a panel
discussion
Remember to apply the conventions and strategies in group speaking.
B. Activity Proper (Differentiated Instruction)
The class is divided into five groups. Each group will discuss (panel
discussion) the topics assigned.

Group 1: Overcoming challenges on studies despite poverty


Group 2: Overcoming challenges on having strict parents
Group 3: Overcoming challenges of peer pressure and bad influence of friends
Group 4: Overcoming challenges of Filipino citizens with the current
administration
Group 5: Overcoming challenges of having separated parents
C. Post-Activity
A. Discussion
Reflect on how you performed in this lesson, and make a plan on
how to improve your language communication skills.
B. Application
What have you learned in asking questions or answering questions
during a panel discussion?
C. Generalization
Did you find panel discussion interesting ? Why or why not?
IV. Evaluation
Each group will be evaluated based on the following rubric:
Criteria
Focus (Concentrates on the specific topic that is clear significant and supportable.)
Teamwork (Manifest coordination and collaboration among the panellists to
clarify the topic at hand)
Persuasive Techniques (uses logical and emotional appeals; avoids fallacies)
Clarity of ideas (Clearly presents reasons, facts and opinion as supports)
Response to questions asked (thinks before speaking; presents relevant ideas;
clearly uses evidence; gives reasons)
Language Convention (Use simple, direct, concise and clear expressions free
from errors; articulates responses clearly)
