Jhon is a very good track and field player, Last month he joined the Palarong Pambansa 2O17 in Sta. Cruz,
Laguna. He runs a 5OO-m dash in 34.89 seconds. What is his average velocity during the run?

Given:

v = 5OOm

t = 34.89 seconds

v=?

Formula:

v=

Solution:

5
v=
34.89

v = 14.33 m/s

Answer:

Jhon has a total average velocity is 14.33 m/s.

The percentage and decimal is related to Araling Panlipunan (Economics) Unit 3 Module 14 The
Inflation. Inflation is define as the rate at which price rise and purchasing falls. Inflation needs percentage
and decimal because it shows increasing and decreasing of the price of the money. It also include the CPI or
the Consumer Price Index. It measures the decreasing and increasing of the price of representative basket of
goods and services that consumed a typical household from the base year.

For example:

35.00 and the price of

CPI basket has a 15 kilo of rice and 7 kilo of fish. Year 2016, the price of the rice is
the fish is 60.00. Year 2017, the price of the rice is 40.00 and the price of the fish is 80.00. If the base
year is 2016, the CPI in 2017 is:

( ()) + ( ())
CPI (year) =[ ]
( ()) + ( ())

(15 40) + ( 7 80) (15 35) + (7 60)

CPI2017=[ ]X 100 CPI2016=[ ]X 100
(15 35) + (7 60) (15 35) + (7 60)

600 + 560 525 + 420

CPI2017= [ ]X 100 CPI2016=[ ]X 100
525 + 420 525 + 420

1,160 945
CPI2017= [ ]X 100 CPI2016=[ ]X 100
945 945

CPI2017=1.2275 X 100 CPI2016= 1 X 100

CPI2017= 122.75 CPI2016= 100

Now, inflation rate in the year 2017 if compares in the base year:

20172016
Inflation rate2017 = [ ]X 100
2016

122.75100
= [ ]x 100
100

22.75
= [ 100 ]x 100

= 0.2275 X 100

= 22.75 %

The average household consumption place has increased 22.75%

The percentage of decimal is connected to Economics who has a topic of Income elasticity of demand
which it is the ratio of percentage change in quantity demanded of a product to percentage change in the
income level of consumer. It is a measure of responsiveness of quantity demanded to changes in consumers'
income. Income elasticity of demand indicates whether a product is a normal good or an inferior good. When
the quantity demanded of a product increases with an increase in the level of income and decreases with
decrease in level of income, we get a positive value for income elasticity of demand. A positive income elasticity
of demand stands for a normal (or superior) good. When the quantity demanded of a product or service
decreases in response to an increase and increases in response to decrease in the income level, the income
elasticity of demand is negative and the product is an inferior good.

Example:

Rique has experienced exceptional growth in recent years. Its GDP per capita has increased from
around 30,000 to 50,000 in last 5 years. Over the period quantity demanded of personal cars has increased
from 450,000 units per year to 600,000 units. Quantity demanded of public transport, however, has declined
from 10,000 buses to 7,000 buses. Calculate cross elasticity of demand and tell which product is a normal
good and which one is inferior.

(New Quantity of demand Initial quantity of demand)

Percentage increase in income level = X 100
{(new price+Initial price)2}

(50,00030,000
= ) X 100
{ (50,000 + 30,000) 2}

20,000
= X 100 = 0.5 X 100
40,000

= 50%
(New quantity of demand Initial quantity of demand)
Percentage increase in quantity demanded of cars = {(New quantity of demand+Initial quantity of demand)2}
X 100

(600,000 450,000) 150,000

= {(600,000 + 450,000)2}
X 100 =
525,000
X 100

=0.265714285 X 100 =28.57142857

= 28.57%

(7,000 10,000)
Percentage increase in quantity demanded of buses =
{(7,000 +10,000)2 }
X 100

3,000
= x 100 = -0.352941176 x 100
8,500

= -35.29411765 = -35.29%

28.57%
Cross elasticity of demand of cars = = 0.57
50%

35.29%
Cross elasticity of demand of buses = = 0.71
50%

Since cars have positive income elasticity of demand, they are normal goods (also called superior goods) while
buses have negative income elasticity of demand which indicates they are inferior goods.

An electron accelerates in a straight line at 4x1010 m/s2 in a cathode ray tube. If its initial speed is 2x10 4
m/s, what is its speed after 3x10-6s?

ANSWERS:

Acceleration (a) = 4x1010m/s2

Initial velocity (u) = 2x104m/s

Final velocity (v) =?

Time (t) = 3x10-6s

Applying v = u+at

V = 2x104 + 4x1010(3x10-6)

= 2x104 + 4x (3x) 104

= 2x104 + 12x104

=104 (2 +12)

Final velocity (v) = 14x104m/s

Acceleration is defined as the rate of change of velocity. Just like velocity, acceleration is a
vector quantity. It is related to Physics because you are looking for the answer of one of your questions and it
is solved by mathematical equation.

Problem:

in 3s at constant negative acceleration. What is the acceleration of the box?
